She proudly serves on the Board of DIFFA Dallas and is an active supporter of Planned Parenthood, The Trevor Project, and Dress for Success. Gabriella is a beacon of modern leadership, showing how women can break barriers, lead with purpose, and drive lasting impact in both industry and community.Gabriella's Intentional JourneyWe start by discussing Gabriella's journey of intentionality. Gabriella shares how, prior to becoming a mother, she had always lived a life where success and career advancement were her primary focus. She talks about the mindset shift that came with motherhood, realizing that the greatest value she carried was not in her ability to present perfectly but in her ability to present the person behind the success. This journey wasn't easy, but it became something truly beautiful as she learned to put her authentic self first. The Challenges of MotherhoodGabriella opens up about the challenges she faced when trying to become a mother. She had a long, emotional journey with infertility that tested her ability to overcome challenges beyond her control. Gabriella reveals how this experience shifted her perspective on life and success. While she was used to achieving anything she set her mind to in her career, the struggle to have a child was something that was completely out of her control, making her question her identity in a way she had never experienced before.Balancing Career and Personal LifeAs we talk about the complexities of balancing career and personal life, Gabriella explains how she was able to use hardship as motivation to keep going. Even when she faced emotional and physical challenges, her drive to succeed in her career and maintain strong relationships with her family pushed her forward. However, it wasn't always easy, and there were times when she felt out of control, not knowing if everything she was doing was worth it.Rediscovering IdentityThe journey through infertility and becoming a mother prompted Gabriella to rediscover who she truly was outside of her professional success. She explains how redefining herself wasn't just about overcoming adversity but also about surrendering to the process and being vulnerable. For the first time, Gabriella allowed herself to acknowledge the struggles, and in doing so, she found a new sense of authenticity that helped her grow as both a person and a leader. The Power of VulnerabilityGabriella shares an important lesson in vulnerability: it's not just about being vulnerable with others, but also with yourself. She talks about how being open about her struggles, both personal and professional, has made her a stronger leader. She reflects on how many leaders, especially women, have often been conditioned to hide their vulnerabilities, but she now understands the power that comes with showing up authentically, even when things aren't perfect.Leadership and EmpathyA major theme of this episode is the relationship between leadership and empathy. Gabriella talks about how being an empathetic leader doesn't make you weak; in fact, it can make you stronger. She emphasizes that showing empathy and understanding in leadership, especially during times of hardship, helps build deeper connections with your team and creates a more sustainable work environment. Leadership is not just about making decisions; it's about showing your humanity and being willing to support others through their challenges. Conclusion and Next StepsAs we wrap up the conversation, Gabriella shares some final thoughts on how leaders can balance their personal and professional lives, as well as how embracing vulnerability can lead to stronger, more authentic connections with those around them. She encourages leaders to keep striving for authenticity and to remember that imperfections and challenges are not weaknesses, but rather growth opportunities.Resources Mentioned:If you're ready to grow as a leader, join me for my free monthly leadership workshop at rockygarza.com/confidence Follow Gabriella on Instagram: @GabriellammonteFollow The Village on Instagram: @thevillagedallasKey Timestamps:00:00 Introduction: Embracing Imperfection00:46 Gabriella's Intentional Journey02:39 The Challenges of Motherhood04:32 Balancing Career and Personal Life06:06 Rediscovering Identity07:49 The Power of Vulnerability08:51 Leadership and Empathy19:19 Conclusion and Next StepsTo join Rocky for his next free virtual event, go to https://rockygarza.com/beyondsuccessSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/trgs/donations

Summers in Louisiana tend to linger longer than elsewhere in the U.S., and for many locals, the heat is a perfect excuse to skip town for more exotic destinations. But for those of us who plan to stick around, there are plenty of ways to take a vacation without needing to pack a bag. On this week's show, we travel virtually to the French Riviera with New Orleans chef Samuel Peery. Finding inspiration from coastal brasseries in French cities like Nice and Marseille, Sam has created a menu at the Kimpton Hotel's King Brasserie that offers a taste of the Côte d'Azur only half a mile from the Mississippi River. Over at The Bell, a British-inspired pub in New Orleans' Mid-City neighborhood, locals can stop in for an ale or lager served in imperial pints – or dine in a room decked in tartan fabrics, dark woods, and Union Jack flags. Owner Andrew Bell tells us how he went from a career in professional soccer to become a British publican in the Pelican State. Finally, we get a behind-the-scenes look at Exhibition Hub's newest immersive exhibit in New Orleans. Titanic: An Immersive Voyage takes visitors back to 1912 to experience the ship as a passenger on its ill-fated maiden voyage. Executive producer John Zaller tells us about the exhibition and the important role food played on the luxury liner. For more of all things Louisiana Eats, be sure to visit us at PoppyTooker.com.

Hello everyone, and welcome to another episode of The Suite Spot. This is your host, as always, Ryan Embree. Thank you for joining us. We are here in the content creation studio in Maitland, Florida at our Travel Media Group headquarters, and have another fantastic edition of our Suite Spot: Spotlight series. This time with a fantastic property that we're gonna be showcasing and in with me today to talk about this beautiful property is Jennifer Curtin, the general manager of The Beatrice. Jennifer, thank you so much for joining me on the Suite Spot. Jennifer Curtin : Good morning, Ryan. Thank you so much. Really happy to be here. Ryan Embree: Yeah, we're excited to have you. And you know, we're gonna get to The Beatrice and your beautiful property here in a second. But as we do with all of our new guests, this is your first time to the Suite Spot. Talk to us a little bit about your background and hospitality journey that led you to The Beatrice. Jennifer Curtin : Yes, absolutely. Happy to and actually it's, it's quite a full circle story that I have. So my career actually started right here in Providence, Rhode Island. I attended Johnson Wales University, majoring in hotel management, and that's actually located just steps from the Beatrice Hotel. And so this is where I started, I was working in multiple different operations through school. So I worked with Hilton Hotels. I worked in a luxury residential community here in Providence. And then in the summers I used to live on Cape Cod and I worked at an amazing it was a five star resort, Chatham Bars Inn down on the Cape. And so, really for me throughout school, I wanted to get exposure in multiple different operations and environments and really get a sense of what it is that I wanted to choose for a path outside of college. And so for me, it was really that luxury boutique space. That's really where my heart lies. And so upon graduation, I started with Kimpton Hotels first in Boston, Mass, which is home for me. So that was a natural starting point. And then from there I moved with them to Aspen, Colorado and then to Seattle, Washington. And it was when I was in Washington, Seattle that I got the call and moved back to open the Beatrice again, you know, back here in Providence, Rhode Island. Ryan Embree: I'm sure that was such an exciting call to be called back to your hometown where it all started and you went to school for hospitality, which I will tell you of all the hospitality industry experts that we interview on this series in others, it's rare, but I'm seeing more and more of it. I mean, you're talking to another grad of a hospitality management program down here at UCF. More and more people are going to school to get into our industry, which is amazing because most of the time you're gonna hear people say, well, I just fell into the industry, or I was doing a job in college and fell in love with the industry. So it's so great to see and hear stories like yourself, Jennifer, where you knew you had a passion for it, but also finding and having a journey within it and finding a segment and space that you really, that you really cared about. And the fact that you got to do it in your own backyard, I'm sure also benefits you because you know a lot about the local area. Jennifer Curtin : Absolutely. No, it's wonderful. And I will say,

Joining the podcast this week is the force behind some of IHG's most dynamic brands. She's a hospitality veteran who works to create seamless end-to-end guest experiences. Meet Karen Gilbride, Vice President of Avid Hotels, Atwell Suites, and Garner Hotels at IHG. Karen joins Host Dan Ryan to explore IHG's newest brand Garner, and the design philosophy behind it. Additionally, Karen shares the power that mentorship programs can have, the nuances of designing for staff and employees, and how to build a brand. Takeaways: Hospitality is the feeling you get when you visit someone's house and feel welcomed and cared for. Everyday the hospitality industry works to make you feel like you're visiting a close friend when you stop by a hotel. While new construction suits a lot of owners, there is a need to provide owners with a conversion pathway as well. By taking existing properties, owners can update old buildings and save on costWhen designing a hotel room, starting with foam core helps you get an initial feel for the size and shape of the room. Once you have that established, consider where the furniture goes, and how the guests will flow through the room. When building a brand you have two customers to think about. First is the guest who may check in on a given night, the second is the owner. If you can't get an owner to invest in the brand, there won't be a hotel for a guest to check in to. When picking furniture for a hotel, it's important to not only consider the guest, but the hotel staff who have to interact with it as well. If a side table looks nice, but is too heavy to move, it quickly becomes an obstacle to clean around. Any guest experience is about attention to details and understanding what your standards are. If you're only going to do 5 main things, understand what they are, and execute them to perfection.Having a strong foundation of people is crucial for any business, but doubly so in hospitality. Through mentoring programs, new and rising talent can be recognized, and given the resources they need to flourish. Quote of the Show:“I realized that it really is about high attention to detail and standards, being clear about what the standards are, training people against it, and then executing.” - Karen GilbrideLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/karen-gilbride-379b976/ Website: https://www.ihg.com/garner-hotels/hotels/us/en/reservation Website: https://www.ihg.com/hotels/us/en/reservation Shout Outs:6:37 - Intercontinental Park Lane London: https://parklane.intercontinental.com/ 7:20 - Scott Norwood7:28 - New York Giants: https://www.giants.com/ 9:58 - Candlewood Suites: https://www.ihg.com/candlewood/hotels/us/en/reservation 16:48 - Kimpton Hotels: https://www.kimptonhotels.com/31:59 - Cornell: https://www.cornell.edu/ 36:22 - Crowne Plaza: https://www.ihg.com/crowneplaza/hotels/us/en/reservation 37:22 - Fordham University: https://www.fordham.edu/ 57:00 - Holiday Inn: https://www.holidayinn.com/ 1:01:00 - Statler Hotel: https://statlerhotel.cornell.edu/ Ways to Tune In: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0A2XOJvb6mGqEPYJ5bilPXApple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/defining-hospitality-podcast/id1573596386Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZGVmaW5pbmdob3NwaXRhbGl0eS5saXZlL2ZlZWQueG1sAmazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/8c904932-90fa-41c3-813e-1cb8f3c42419

Our guest this week is a highly creative and service oriented design leader who loves learning from others. She's a trailblazer who worked to carve out a space in the industry to truly be herself. Joining the show this week is Managing Principal at KNA Design Los Angeles, Alisa Chodos!Alisa sits down with Dan Ryan for a discussion on her hospitality journey. She dives into the importance of learning from others, why it's ok to make mistakes, and the warmth of the hospitality community. Takeaways:  Hospitality is the business of service, and design is theater. Hospitality is the backdrop through which people create connections and experiences. To properly execute requires a blend of design and management.  In the ever-evolving world of design consulting, learning goes beyond the classroom. It's about gaining firsthand experience, adapting to different environments, and embracing teamwork as the cornerstone of success. While the hospitality industry has come a long way, it has faced many diversity issues. When Alisa first started, not many women were involved in the design process. She continued to push on, and refused to conform. It is important to learn from mistakes, have fun, and collaborate with others to spur creativity. Embracing new perspectives and exploring unconventional ideas can lead to better solutions and promote camaraderie and teamwork. Working with a diverse group of people can provide new perspectives and inspiration. Emphasizing the importance of incorporating cultural and historical references in design projects can lead to cohesive and relevant outcomes. Designers should prioritize maintaining a positive and enthusiastic mindset towards their work to cultivate motivation and creativity. Our guest on this week's episode is a wealth of knowledge on all facets of the hotel and hospitality industry. He's a leader who knows how to turn a hotel into something that is truly a destination. Joining the show this week is General Manager at the upcoming Regent Santa Monica Beach, Younes Atallah!Younes sits down with Dan Ryan to discuss his time in the industry, and the role of the General Manager. Younes shares his management strategies, the importance of exceptional programming, and why collaboration is a crucial skill for any member of your team.Takeaways:  Hospitality is an inherent concept of treating others with warmth and care, extending from our homes to the hotel industry. It comes from the heart and is about treating people as you would treat them in your house.  Continuous improvement is essential in any talent, whether it's sports, music, or acting. In the hospitality industry, teamwork and constant challenge are essential for improving the skills and talents of staff. Relationships and being a skilled generalist are crucial in the dynamic world of hotel management. The ability to manage teams, juggle priorities, and reintroduce brands requires constant dedication and expertise. Providing exceptional programming is crucial for hotels to exceed guest expectations and create memorable experiences. Comfortable accommodations are expected by guests, but it's the added features and activities that truly make a hotel stand out. Regularly engaging with people and observing their behavior by walking around is a valuable management practice. It offers opportunities to understand their desires and motivations, leading to impactful insights and positive outcomes. The pandemic has made it increasingly difficult to find good people and talent, especially in industries like hospitality. Management teams should look to foster internal talent, and help employees grow in ways that excites them. Growing up in a family that owned a travel agency, Younes experienced hospitality from an early age. The experience led to a deep connection with the hotel industry and a career pathway shaped by a memorable vacation. She is also the founder and editor in chief of Womancake Magazine which delivers slices of wisdom along wildly inspiring essays, interviews, articles, visual art, and poetry by women over age 40.  This episode is about the importance of finding our voice in midlife to speak our truth as key to living our authentic next chapter.  We delve into how many of us in our generation were taught to silence our voices to “play nice” and how that has kept us disconnected from not only our voices but ourselves.   We also talk about power of the collective of midlife womens voices to challenge ageism, sexism and the patriarchy.  This is a lively conversation that we are both obviously very passionate about. ------ Alicia Dara is a nationally recognized speech and presentation coach. There are some projects where her heritage and journey will be valuable and other times where she's going to feel the need to protect that story and redirect the conversation. David is the COO of Humanist Hospitality, a hotel management company born during the pandemic that has been working hard to infuse new thinking into the human connections at the heart of the hotel industry. Their goal from the start was to flip the status quo on the employee lifecycle, bringing in meaningful benefits, training and development opportunities to aid those workers who helped the company survive the pandemic and to entice those who either left or are thinking about a career in the industry. This is a discussion happening all over but I wanted to dive deeper than just talking about higher pay and signing bonuses. We're all trying to figure out what the next version of a hospitality career looks like but in spite of all the unknown, you can bet that putting more emphasis on employee relations is what the winning companies will be doing. About DavidAs COO of Humanist Hospitality, David Martin provides leadership and strategic vision through operational, managerial and administrative procedures. Martin has enjoyed a versatile career of thirty years in hospitality, in which the past eleven years were spent in a President or COO role. His portfolio comprises several types of hospitality organizations from four star boutique hotels with Kimpton Hotels to receiverships/lender owned assets with Prism Hotels & Resorts. With a record of strategic leadership, he has been the driving force behind innovative processes to optimize productivity and create sustained growth.
