In this episode Jack Nerad and Chris Teague bring you an SUV-heavy road test lineup featuring four dramatically different models, each offering its own take on size, capability, and innovation. Co-Host Chris Teague kicks things off with an evaluation of the all-new 2025 Acura ADX, a premium compact SUV that debuts as Acura's most accessible model yet. It blends youthful styling with solid driving dynamics and top-tier technology, including a 10.2-inch digital cockpit, wireless smartphone integration, and available Google built-in with a Bang & Olufsen sound system. The ADX also impresses with class-leading cargo space and standard AcuraWatch safety tech. In his half of the small luxury crossover faceoff, Host Jack Nerad reports on the 2025 Lexus UX 300h AWD F Sport Handling, a sharply styled compact crossover that merges fuel-sipping hybrid technology with sporty flourishes. With 196 horsepower and a refined AWD setup, it delivers solid handling and upscale features like faux leather seating, a head-up display, and Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, making it a city-friendly luxury crossover. How do the ADX and UX stack up? Jack and Chris will offer their opinions. Later in the show, it'll be time for the big boys — the all-new 2025 Ford Expedition Tremor and the 2025 Nissan Armada. Fully redesigned for 2025, the Nissan Armada is now more capable and refined than ever. Armed with a 425-horsepower twin-turbo V6 and up to 8,500 pounds of towing capacity, the new Armada introduces the rugged PRO-4X trim, complete with off-road hardware like air suspension, locking differential, and skid plates. But Chris took the luxury route in the Armada Platinum. Inside, its spacious, tech-loaded cabin rivals luxury SUVs, while ProPILOT Assist and Safety Shield 360 enhance confidence on the road. Traveling to Louisville, Kentucky, Jack took the wheel of the 2025 Ford Expedition Tremor, Ford's most off-road-ready full-size SUV to date. Outfitted with a 440-horsepower twin-turbo V6, 33-inch all-terrain tires, Trail Turn Assist, and 10.6 inches of ground clearance, the Tremor takes on rugged terrain while still providing roomy three-row seating and high-tech features like the new Ford Digital Experience and BlueCruise 1.4 hands-free driving. Jack and his wife Sandi put it through its paces during a Ford-sponsored on- and off-road event, and he'll have a full report. In the news segment, the show covers Toyota's aggressive 2026 product rollout, headlined by a fully hybrid Camry and the retro-inspired Corolla FX Edition. The Camry now comes standard with a 2.5-liter hybrid setup offering up to 51 mpg, while the FX Edition revives '80s styling with limited production flair. Also making headlines is a new congressional proposal that could drastically cut electric vehicle tax incentives. The bill seeks to phase out EV tax credits by 2026 and eliminate credits for leased EVs, a move critics say could stall adoption at a time when EV sales are already softening. Meanwhile, Tesla is facing new scrutiny from U.S. regulators over its planned robotaxi rollout in Austin. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration wants answers on how Tesla's Full Self-Driving system handles poor visibility and other challenging conditions. Nissan is back in the spotlight, but this time for its sweeping Re:Nissan turnaround plan. The strategy slashes vehicle platforms and parts complexity while accelerating product development timelines. It aims to deliver more competitive models faster and with lower costs while, at the same time, closing factories. Stay tuned through the end of the show for a listener question on teen driver training—plus Jack and Chris's top advice for getting new drivers road-ready. All that and more, right here on America on the Road. Jack Nerad's newest book Jack is now offering his newest crime novel, Only One Thing Stays the Same, at a pre-publication price of just $4.99. The automotive landscape offers increasingly sophisticated choices, and our dual review of the 2025 Lexus UX 300h and Mitsubishi Outlander reveals two Japanese manufacturers delivering exceptional value in different segments. The Lexus UX 300h emerges as a standout in the luxury compact SUV class. Assembled in Miyawaka, Fukuoka, Japan, this hybrid marvel offers a compelling combination of premium features and remarkable efficiency. The F-Sport handling package elevates the driving experience while distinctive styling elements like the oversized spindle grille and sculpted fastback design create visual interest without sacrificing function. What truly distinguishes the UX 300h is its value proposition. With a starting price of $36,540, it significantly undercuts German competitors like Audi, BMW, and Mercedes while delivering superior fuel economy (45 city/41 highway MPG). During extensive testing over 682 miles, our team achieved 40.7 MPG while enjoying the UX's surprisingly smooth ride, comfortable interior, and intuitive technology. Most tellingly, when asked what could use improvement, our reviewers struggled to identify any shortcomings. We also explore the Mitsubishi Outlander SEL, which shares underpinnings with the Nissan Rogue but stands apart with distinctive styling and features. Despite its "small SUV" classification, this three-row, seven-passenger vehicle offers remarkable versatility with a comprehensive feature set including LED lighting, semi-aniline seating, a 12.3-inch display, and Mitsubishi's Super All-Wheel Control system. Backed by a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty, the Outlander makes a compelling case for buyers seeking space and features without breaking the bank.Between vehicle reviews, we dive deep into drivetrain technology Jeff Dziekan explaining the practical differences between two-wheel, four-wheel, and all-wheel drive systems - helping you understand which configuration best suits your specific driving needs, weathBe sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!ProAm Auto AccessoriesProAm Auto Accessories: "THE" place to go to find exclusive and hard to find parts and accessories!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Auto - Rund ums Auto.
The Lexus UX might not have the flash of halo products like the LC or LFA, but it fills an ever-important role for the brand: an entry point. While it launched in 2018 with a series of variants, the '25 UX boils down to just one model – the 2025 Lexus UX 300h. This change comes from the pivot to a new powertrain. This updated powertrain features the company's fifth-generation hybrid system, which pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline-burning engine with an eCVT. This combination is good for a combined 196 hp 15 hp over the outgoing UX250h. Even with the extra oomph, the UX300h also bests the outgoing model in city fuel economy, which rises to 45 mpg city. The two models share the same mixed driving fuel numbers. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the 2025 Lexus UX300h and puts it through its paces. Wren takes you on a guided tour of the '25 Lexus UX 300h and highlights some of the UX's features. Later in the show, Wren takes you on a live drive review of the '25 Lexus UX 300h. Adding to these segments, Wren chats with Autoweek's Patrick Carone about the world of small crossovers, the updates to the Lexus UX, and more. Closing the show, the pair break down what's special about the UX 300h.
The Lexus NX kicked off in 2014, with its current, second generation coming seven years later. This mid-size, two-row crossover might not move the volume as its larger RX stablemate, but it handles the needs of the popular two-row midsize crossover space. The NX 350h packs a 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle I4 that's paired with an eCVT and hybrid system to send 239 hp through a four-wheel drive system before hitting the pavement at each wheel. Slotting below the NX, the entry point into the Lexus crossover lineup is the subcompact Lexus UX. This '23 Lexus UX250h sports aggressive styling and a hybrid powertrain. Powering the UX250h is a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle I4 that works with an eCVT and a hybrid system to make a combined 181 hp through the front wheels, or through an all-wheel-drive system. On this episode of Talking Cars with the Boss, Wesley Wren chats with Natalie Neff about a pair of Lexus crossovers. The pair breakdown where these Lexus crossovers sit in the hierarchy of the company's portfolio, and where they stand in the greater scheme of the car world. The pair also share their respective experiences with these machines.
Jill and Tom opened the episode discussing the “Velocity Package” available for the Cadillac Lyriq. Available as an over-the-air software update (no dealer visit required), the package increases power and performance for $1200. Is it worth the money? Listen in. The hosts discussed the new, lower, price of a Fisker Ocean—just approved by a bankruptcy court. Second-quarter sales figures are coming in, and Jill and Tom shared a few highlights, including disappointing Jeep numbers, and surprisingly strong EV figures. In the second segment Jill and Tom welcome Toyota Product-Education Specialist Thomas Sondej to the show. Thomas updated the crew on the all-new Toyota Crown Signia, a wagon-like variant of the Crown sedan being added to the brand lineup for 2025. Per Thomas, the Crown Signia is due in showrooms shortly. In the third segment Jill is subjected to Tom's “Which Weighs More?” quiz. The Hosts wrapped up the show chatting about Jill's seat time in the freshened-for-2025 Lexus UX, the most-affordable vehicle in the luxury brand's lineup.

Auto - Rund ums Auto.

General Motors has been gathering many plaudits for its Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system, but soon it will be supplemented by the even more sophisticated Ultra Cruise. To go in-depth on the intricacies of Ultra Cruise, our special guest this week is Tonny Kraatz, assistant chief engineer on the program. Super Cruise is a highway-only system approved for hundreds of thousands of miles in the United States, but it lacks the door-to-door self-driving abilities of Ultra Cruise. In our interview, Kraatz will describe the nuances in detail and also point out how GM's introduction strategy differs markedly from some other carmakers, including Tesla Motors. In the news, true crime is our top story this week. A former Apple engineer has been charged with attempting to steal self-driving tech from his company and give it to his new employer. And the former Audi CEO has pled guilty to fraudulent negligence in the wake of the Volkswagen “Dieselgate” scandal. Of more importance day to day, car makers are pushing back on the proposed Environment Protection Agency standards that would require a swift transition from conventional vehicles to battery electrics. They cite supply chain issues, high costs, and lack of consumer demand as key reasons the EPA proposals are unrealistic. On the safety front, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is asking for the recall of 67 million airbag inflators because it believes there is a safety defect. We'll give you details so you can see if your vehicle might be affected. In this week's road test segment, co-host Chris Teague will detail his family's weeklong experience with the 2023 Ford Expedition Limited. Host Jack Nerad will examine the Lexus UX 250h, a small hybrid-only luxury crossover. This week! Chris did a ride along in the Rivian R1T, but considering he wasn't able to go more than 35 mph, he doesn't have too much to report. We were supposed to spend a week with the (now discontinued) Infiniti Q60, but due to misalignment, we kept the Bolt EUV for an extra week. And the Lexus UX was a car...that we had...and will probably forget before long. This week will be much more interesting because we have a Porsche coming, and Porsches are always great. Also a Nissan Rogue and a Toyota GR86. Fun cars!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/daily-motor-podcast/donations

This week our special guest is Scott Keogh, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America as well as head of the Volkswagen brand for the North American region. He'll have some very interesting things to say about Volkswagen's future in the United States. VW has recovered from the public relations nightmare of “Dieselgate,” and it has recently embarked on a global plan to become a leader in electric vehicles. Host Jack Nerad had a chance to sit down with Keogh for a lengthy discussion at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, Tennessee, recently. In that mammoth production plant VW will build the Volkswagen ID.4 electric crossover SUV that is the vanguard of its EV initiative. In news this week Host Jack Nerad and Co-Host Chris Teague discuss how long the shortage of used cars will last. Several factors conspired to create a critical lack of supply of used cars, and they will look into them and predict when the market will return to normal. Also in the news, RAM has introduced some new truck models. We'll tell you who they are targeting and what 2022 holds for the truck market. Is now a good time to buy a truck or should you wait if you can? In the road test segment Chris Teague will take a long look at the Lexus UX hybrid. Is the UX hybrid the right choice for a family that lives in a small town away from big-city infrastructure? Teague will tackle that and other questions about the hybrid version of the UX. Also in the road test segment, Jack Nerad just returned from a road trip in the Ford Bronco Sport compact SUV, and he'll tell you how it fared over the course of a 600-mile drive up and down the West Coast of lower Michigan. Is the Bronco Sport a vehicle you should consider even if you're not an "off-roader?" We'll have the answer. The Bronco Sport can wade through up to 23.6 inches of water.

LEXUS UX 300E ORDER LAUNCH IN NORWAY "With the reservation start for the Lexus UX 300e in Norway, we now have a first idea of the prices of the first BEV series model of the Toyota subsidiary. Prices will start at the equivalent of around 38,000 euros." writes electrive: "The Lexus UX 300e will be available in Norway in three different versions (Comfort, Premium and Luxury), with the basic Comfort version having a list price of 410,120 kroner, which is equivalent to around 38,000 euros. The “Premium” version costs 449,800 kroner (41,900 euros), while Lexus has priced in the ‘Luxury’ version at 495,800 kroner (46,200 euros). In Norway, electric cars are exempt from VAT and the new car tax. The prices are therefore not transferable to other European markets. On the Norwegian website, Lexus states the range of the electric SUV as “at least” 300 kilometres according to WLTP, deliveries are to start in the fourth quarter of 2020." In Norway the Model 3 SR+ is 431,000kr for 409km. https://www.electrive.com/2020/08/04/lexus-ux-300e-order-launch-in-norway/ CADILLAC TO UNVEIL THE LYRIQ, ITS FIRST ALL-ELECTRIC MODEL "On Thursday night, General Motors' luxury Cadillac unit will unveil the Lyriq, a crossover that marks Cadillac's first foray into all-electric models. The Lyriq will also be GM's first electric vehicle that uses the automaker's new Ultium battery system." says AXIOS: " Edmunds analyst Jessica Caldwell, in comments circulated to reporters, says it will be a "challenging launch for Cadillac" — a brand she said has been trying for years to boost its image. "Although other aspirational luxury brands have already taken a pass at the [electric vehicle] space with electric SUV variants, no other automaker besides Tesla has tasted the joy of success in terms of sales and demand," she said. "If Cadillac does it right and can get consumers to view the Lyriq as competitive with Tesla and other European luxury brands, this could help give the brand a push in the right direction." https://www.axios.com/cadillac-lyriq-electric-vehicles-gm-9f5e4c4a-cdf8-42fd-ba48-10bcaa2e2231.html LG CHEM BECOMES NO. 1 EV BATTERY SUPPLIER IN H1 "LG Chem ...became the largest supplier of electric vehicle (EV) batteries in the first half of the year, data showed Monday. Based on the global usage of EV batteries, LG Chem’s market share stood at 24.6 percent in the January-June period, up from 10.4 percent from a year earlier, according to market tracker SNE Research." says Korea Biz Wire: "The data showed that 10.5 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of LG Chem’s EV batteries were used in the first half of this year, compared with 5.7 GWh from a year earlier. SNE Research attributed the hike to robust sales of the Tesla Model 3, the Renault Zoe EV and the Audi e-tron EV, which are all powered by LG Chem’s EV batteries. China’s CATL came in second in the first half of the year with a 23.5 percent market share, down slightly from 25.1 percent from a year earlier. Meanwhile, two other South Korean EV battery makers — Samsung SDI Co. and SK Innovation Co. — came in fourth and sixth place with a 6 percent market share and a 3.9 percent one, respectively." http://koreabizwire.com/lg-chem-becomes-no-1-ev-battery-supplier-in-h1/166278 BYD BRINGS ITS PREMIUM HAN EV TO EUROPE BYD has brought its highly-anticipated premium sedan, the Han EV, to a roadshow in Stuttgart, Germany. The Han EV will serve as a new window for European consumers to experience Chinese-made automobiles from a new perspective. The Blade Battery utilizes singular cells that are arranged together in an array and are then inserted into a battery pack, increasing space utilization by over 50 percent compared to conventional batteries. The Han’s long-range version has an NEDC-certified cruising range of 605 kilometers (376 miles). 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.9 seconds. Han EV is also equipped with DiPilot, BYD’s smart driving assistant system. As one of the major subsystems of DiPilot, the DiDAS driving assistant qualifies for Level 2.5 of the SAE autonomous driving standard. ALIBABA HIKES STAKE IN XPENG BEFORE EV MAKER'S IPO "Chinese electric-vehicle startup Xpeng Motors is raising more funds from Alibaba Group Holding and other investors ahead of its planned initial public offering in New York, according to people familiar with the matter." says Automotive News Europe: "Qatar Investment Authority also is one of the backers putting in another $300 million total in Xpeng, said the people, asking not to be identified because the matter is private. That expands Xpeng’s pre-IPO funding round announced last month to $800 million. The increased funding reflects investor demand, one of the people said." https://www.autonews.com/china/alibaba-hikes-stake-xpeng-ev-makers-ipo GERMANY SEES RECORD NUMBER OF REQUESTS FOR PURCHASE BONUS FOR ELECTRIC CARS IN JULY "A total of 19,993 requests for the German government's purchase premium for an electric car or plug-in hybrid were registered in July, more than in any other month since the introduction of a bonus in June 2016, the Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy announced on Monday. A total of 69,606 requests for the purchase premium had been submitted since the beginning of the year, an increase of 78.6 percent compared with the previous year, according to ministry." reports China.org.cn: "The premium "is effective and pushes forward electric mobility in Germany," said Peter Altmaier, Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy. In order to lower by around 40 percent transport-related emissions from the 1990 levels by the year 2030, the government is seeking to have seven to ten million electric vehicles registered in the country by 2030. Germany's economic stimulus package to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 crisis also included a premium for electric vehicles. The government decided to double its share of the premium so that fully electric cars now would receive subsidies of up to 9,000 euros (10,053 U.S. dollars) until the end of 2021." http://www.china.org.cn/world/Off_the_Wire/2020-08/03/content_76342679.htm TESLA FACTORY CONSTRUCTION ADVANCES EXTREMELY QUICKLY "Seven months ago, a tree plantation covered Tesla’s premises in Brandenburg. Now the skeletons of several factory buildings are already visible. What is certain is that Tesla is not wasting time." writes Berlin Spectator.com: "Neither a global pandemic called Corona could stop or slow down the construction, nor the lack of a construction permit. The latter will not be given to Tesla for now. Until yesterday, a new version of the plans for the factory was accessible to everyone at several locations in Brandenburg and online. Now, objections can be handed in until September 3rd, 2020. Only once this process is completed, the Brandenburg authorities can finally issue a permit. By the time they do, the three factory buildings will have made more headway." And what if you want to go and have a look? "Security is tight around the premises. Several guards at the sandy road, which is the main access to the site, will approach anyone who sets his or her foot there for a millisecond. Even on the other side of the construction site, where hardly anyone goes, any visitor who does moves around, even outside the fenced area, will be approached by “two American guys who look like agents”, a person who met them told The Berlin Spectator." https://berlinspectator.com/2020/08/04/brandenburg-tesla-factory-construction-advances-lightning-fast-1/ RALEIGH LAUNCHES ECARGO BIKES "Raleigh’s E-Cargo range will support both individuals and companies by allowing items to be transported between locations with zero emissions. The collection will be available in the UK and Ireland from September. " says TensportXtra: "Congestion in urban areas can make deliveries slow and inefficient for businesses not to mention create vast amounts of avoidable emissions. Raleigh E-Cargo bikes are designed to carry up to 100kg in weight and have a range of up to 75km on one single charge, they are a viable solution to urban and rural delivery services as well as individuals that want to transport items. Added to this, grants are soon to be available as part of Government’s wider programme to decarbonise deliveries set out in their decarbonisation plan. Lordstown plans to use the proceeds to fund production of its Endurance electric pick-up truck at the former GM plant, which is expected to begin in the second half of next year." https://news.bloomberglaw.com/mergers-and-antitrust/electric-truck-startup-lordstown-motors-to-merge-list-on-nasdaq VISION-S CONCEPT EV MAY HIT THE STREETS, SONY IN TOKYO FOR PUBLIC ROAD TESTING "Japanese electronics major Sony set the cat among the pigeons when it unveiled a prototype electric car at CES in January 2020. At the time, it said that the Vision-S electric vehicle was not intended for commercial use, but it turns out that the car might be spotted on the streets after all" says Economic Times: "Sony revealed in a YouTube video that the Vision-S “has arrived in Tokyo for advancing our sensing and audio technologies. The prototype vehicle is also currently under development for public road testing this fiscal year. The prototype EV, Sony said, was developed to showcase its technology to auto manufacturers, and was not an effort on its part to pivot towards EVs. The Vision-S has 33 sensors for autonomous driving and ancillary functions like recognizing people and items, both inside and outside the cabin." https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/magazines/panache/vision-s-concept-ev-may-hit-the-streets-sony-in-tokyo-for-public-road-testing/articleshow/77343145.cms You can listen to all 858 previous episodes of this this for free, where you get your podcasts from, plus the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically. With Hurricane Florence affecting much of the Carolinas and mid-Atlantic region of the US, we discuss how to prepare your vehicle for a natural disaster. We also give our first impressions of the 2019 Lexus UX, and how it stacks up against stiff competition in the compact luxury SUV segment. We also answer questions from our audience about the proper way to break-in your vehicle, whether you can use regular gas in your 'premium recommended' car, and advise a young driver about their first automotive purchase. ------------------------------------------ Have a question for our experts?
