On their Penn State football podcast, host Adam Bittner and Post-Gazette/Daily Collegian Nittany Lions insider Joel Haas react to a busy week of personnel moves following the College Football Playoff loss to Notre Dame at the Orange Bowl. Will coach James Franklin miss Tom Allen as DC after his move to join Dabo Swinney at Clemson? Or are Anthony Poindexter, Dan Connor, Al Golden and D'Anton Lynn attractive possible alternatives? What about Harrison "Trey" Wallace and Omari Evans at receiver? Will their transfer portal departures hurt? Or could they be addition by subtraction after their no-show efforts in Miami? And can transfers Kyron Hudson from USC and Devonte Ross from Troy step into those roles capably? Our duo tackles those questions, then ponders NFL draft decisions. Does Penn State have the depth to stay elite despite the loss of names like Tyler Warren, Abdul Carter and Kobe King? To what degree can names like Dani Dennis-Sutton and Luke Reynolds step up behind them? And how encouraging are the returns of Dennis-Sutton, Drew Allar, Nick Singleton, Kaytron Allen and Zane Durant for Penn State's NIL program?
The Reading Eagle's Rich Scarcella joins us to discuss Saturday's win over Maryland: the fourth-quarter drive to seal the game; a deep dive into the fake punt to Luke Reynolds; the Injuries coming out of the game with Minnesota; PSU's depth; the greatness of Tyler Warren; Fans not understanding how good Drew Allar has been; and thoughts on the past weekend in college football.
On their weekly Penn State football podcast, host Adam Bittner and Post-Gazette/Daily Collegian insider Joel Haas analyze the job coach James Franklin has done to put the Nittany Lions in contention for a College Football Playoff spot. Does he deserve more credit despite his lack of big wins? Would Penn State be out of the CFP discussion had it slipped up against an inferior team as the Alabama Crimson Tide the the Georgia Bulldogs have this season? And is recent domination of the Washington Huskies and Purdue Boilermakers an example of his message getting through to plays effectively? Our duo ponders those questions and more. Can Penn State really be a national championship threat running it's offense through tight end Tyler Warren? Could freshman Luke Reynolds be the next dominant Penn State TE after Warren? Has OC Andy Kotelnicki shown too much of what backup QB Beau Pribula can do when he spells Drew Allar in meaningful moments? Which potential SEC foe does Penn State match up best against in the playoff? And who should Lions fans root for in this week's big game between Indiana and Ohio State?
On their weekly Penn State football podcast, host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette/Daily Collegian Nittany Lions insider Joel Haas preview this week's Big Ten opener and primetime matchup with Illinois at Beaver Stadium. What does coach James Franklin mean in calling for "White Out energy," and was the Fighting Illini's Bret Bielema providing bulletin board material with his comments about it? And ow important is this game for OC Andy Kotelnicki and Drew Allar in silencing their loud critics who remain despite a record-setting win against Kent State? What is receiver Omari Evans' upside after another explosive effort against the Golden Flashes? Can fellow WRs Liam Clifford and Julian Fleming build on their best efforts of the season against a quality opponent? And how good can the tight end room be with Tyler Warren, Luke Reynolds and Khalil Dinkins? Our duo tackles those questions and analyzes the impact veteran Illinois quarterback Luke Altmyer could have on the contest. Will the Lions defense contain him like it did WVU's Garrett Greene? Or could he be a challenge in the mold of Bowling Green's Connor Bazelak?
PennLive's Johnny McGonigal and Bob Flounders share their takeaways from Penn State coach James Franklin's Monday news conference. The Lions are seven-touchdown favorites against Kent State on Saturday. Young tight end Luke Reynolds has impressed Franklin and PSU is prepping fellow freshman Dejuan Lane for a bigger role. On their weekly Penn State football podcast, host Adam Bittner and Daily Collegian/Post-Gazette insider Joel Haas ponder freshmen breakout candidates for coach James Franklin and the Nittany Lions in 2024. Can offensive linemen Cooper Cousins maintain his spring momentum and earn a starting spot? Can five-star prospect Luke Reynolds emerge in a tight end room that includes respected veterans Tyler Warren and Khalil Dinkins? How does Max Granville fit in behind names like Dani Dennis-Sutton and Abdul Carter at the EDGE spots? Can Tyseer Denmark find reps behind the likes of Julian Fleming, Trey Wallace and Liam Clifford? And can Quinton Martin see the field even with stars Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen ahead of him at running back? Our duo tackles those questions, Penn State's No. 8 ranking in the AP poll this week and a sizeable donation toward Beaver Stadium renovations.

We'll also catch up on what intel Snyder has gained from speaking to recruits and staff this past week. Penn State land Antonio Branch Last night, Penn State football landed four-star safety Antonio Branch out of Florida. The 6-2 safety prospect chose Penn State over Louisville and other southern schools to give the team a solid addition at safety. What led to his commitment to Penn State? We'll answer that today by discussing the team's track record of finding and developing the right high school athletes that turn into premiere college tight ends. The BWI Live Show comes to you Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday every week year-round. Penn State lands Matt Henderson For the second year in a row, Penn State found and recruited an underrated tight end prospect. Last year, Luke Reynolds went from an unheralded three-star player to a top-50 prospect during his senior season. Willt he same be true of Henderson? We discuss his physical tools and what he shares in common with those players that came before him in the recruiting process. We'll also discuss what Penn State looks for in a tight end prospect. Most of the team's commits don't play the position in high school, so how does Howle identify the correct jumbo-receivers to convert into tight ends? We highlight certain physical indicators on today's show that indicate potential growth. From there, we'll discuss the other characteristics of a tight Nittany Lion end. Discussing the team's current players After reviewing the recruiting situation, we turn our attention to the position on the Penn State roster. Which players are next up for the team that's sent multiple tight ends to the NFL in the last five years? We'll discuss Tyler Warren's importance to the new offense under Andy Kotelnicki. Next, we'll recap the position battle for the second tight end spot between Khalil Dinkins and Andrew Rappleyea. Which player has the leg up, and what will determine the position in the battle this summer? We discuss what is next for that pair of players. We also take questions from fans submitted to the show. What are the underlying characteristics of a James Franklin offense? From coordinator to coordinator, what are the common themes that Franklin has leaned towards? Fans also want to know how the integration of Pac-12 officials and players could affect the playing style of the Big Ten on defense. Penn Stated: Talking Penn State Football with Donnie Collins
Shall they inherit the playing time? That's the question hosts Donnie Collins and Sam Fremin set out to answer on this week's edition of the Penn Stated podcast, when they break down the 16 early enrollees on Penn State's spring roster.Which of them do Donnie and Sam believe will have the best chance to compete for playing time immediately with a big spring? Who is the prospect we'll learn most about simply by which position the coaching staff chooses to start him at?And will the highest-rated -- and arguably best -- prospect of them all have perhaps the most difficult road to earn a shot at seeing the field with regularity in the fall? The guys then spend the second segment discussing the new NIL-based methods by which the Ohio State Buckeyes are loading their roster this offseason. Is overloading the roster with talent out of the transfer portal necessarily the best way to build a cohesive team? Free agency in other sports indicate it isn't necessarily a clear path to greatness. To contact Donnie, drop an email at dcollins@scrantontimes.com, or send him a message on Twitter @PennStateTT.Listen and subscribe on Apple podcastsListen and subscribe on Google podcastsListen and subscribe on Spotify

However, the team missed on getting a commitment with Dennis announcing earlier this week that he was committing to Illinois. Once again, the Nittany Lions came out slow in the first half, with the score tied 10-10 heading into the break. The team then ripped off 17 unanswered points to put the game away in the third frame. Today, we'll discuss the Penn State offensive identity through the season's first five games. We'll pair that with the team philosophy and how the team's complimentary football approach works right now. Penn State vs. Northwestern, offensive identity Penn State football made few splashy plays against Northwestern, but they did find a way to win and win big. But is that lack of dominant, consistent performance from Drew Allar and company a concern? Fitz will discuss that facet of the team, which has become the obsession of Penn State fans. Also, we'll discuss the Penn Stae running game as well. How far off are the Nittany Lions from breaking big runs? We'll discuss the offensive progress through five games and try to identify common themes that will factor into the next half of the year. Defensive dominance The Nittany Lion's defense was once again the engine of destruction for another Big Ten offense. How good is this group? We'll discuss how the Penn State defensive line dictated the action of Saturday's game and how it led to another dominant performance. Penn State Class of 2024 update Finally, we'll look at the Penn State recruiting class of 2024 as they're progressing into the second half of their senior season. We'll play the most recent highlights from many of the commits to see where they're improving and how their games will translate to the next level. Why is Waterloo still a fixture in the story Britain tells about its national history, more than two centuries on from the battle itself? Speaking to David Mugrove, Dr Luke Reynolds delves into the myth and memory of Waterloo, to uncover how battlefield tourism began almost immediately after the fighting, and why the legacy of the battle continued to be fought over for several decades after 1815. After hearing that a fellow high school classmate was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, High School seniors Cole Stabnick, Luke Reynolds and five others created an event to honor his cancer fight. This event became a non profit called BALL 4 A CURE. This non profit is anchored by a 3 on 3 basketball tournament along with a recently added golf tournament and has raised over $100,000, which has been donated to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center to help in the fight against Pediatric Cancer. This non profit is only in its infancy as there are plans to expand both the number of events as well as hopefully working directly with pediatric cancer patients to help make their difficult lives easier and happier. Both Cole and Luke are vey passionate about giving back which is always a great thing to see, especially from two young men that are simultaneously trying to advance their own blossoming career paths.
“If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.” The sentiment is admirable and practical; realistically, you shouldn't expect to succeed the first time at something you've never done before. However, our current cultural pressures regarding success and failure do expect that very thing, and nowhere is that pressure showing more effects than in our kids—in school, in extra-curriculars, in college applications, even in hobbies that should be purely for fun. We forget that in order to learn, you have to fail—and that's where Luke Reynolds comes in. He joins Mighty Parenting podcast host Sandy Fowler to help us readjust our own views on failure, learning and success; and to teach us how to help our kids re-learn that failing the first time doesn't make them a failure as a person or at life. How do people whistle? How does whistling make a sound? Why does your tongue change a whistle higher or lower? Can you get a trophy for whistling? Can people with laryngitis whistle? Get ready, we learn all about whistling with musician and champion whistler Emily Eagen and musician Yuki Takeda. And who whistles our theme song? We'll hear from musician Luke Reynolds, and a kid whistling chorus from our listeners! Download our learning guides: PDF | Google Slide | Transcript How do you whistle? - Aurelia, 6, New York Emily says the first thing you should do is lick your lips or use lip balm. "If your lips are dry when the air passes it doesn't feel good," she says. Then you'll make your lips kind of into a pucker, circle your lips tightly. Next, stick your tongue touching your bottom teeth. Then you make kind of a yuh, yuh, yuh sound. "But instead of saying the words, make it with a little stream of air. You want to let air pass over the top of your tongue and out your lips. You're making a tiny little instrument by curling your tongue." "I like to think about between your nose and your lips, that's a little body part called a philtrum. I like to pretend that my whistle is coming out of that. That helps me make the sound have a little focal point," she says. Emily says it helps to make little sounds when you practice. "Pretend your sipping tea with that little tiny space there. You don't want to push too much. If you blow too much air it won't work. You have to be really gentle." Once you find your first whistle, it's all about practice and playing around to see what sounds you can make. "If you move your tongue forward, the notes go up, and if you move your tongue down, the notes go down," she says. If you can make a variety of notes, then you can start putting them together to make music!
Failure. I think it's safe to say that virtually all of us hate it. And yet, it appears to be the price of admission to doing just about anything great. “All the bull**** of the music industry dying,” Brian Rosenworcel explains, his passion drowning out the din of the packed Manhattan bar, “all the babies, all the egos, nothing really matters except the fact that we’re honing in on a classic pop album.” The babies, incidentally are his own, the drummer’s primary focus in the half-decade since the last Guster record. Maybe it’s the beer speaking, but Rosenworcel sounds damn excited about about Evermotion, convinced that the band’s seventh record just might be its best. It’s the sort of excitement you don’t find in a group approaching its 25th birthday. Perhaps there’s something to be said for taking a good five years between records. Around halfway through, multi-instrumentalist Luke Reynolds takes a seat at our table — a somewhat fitting later arrival for the band’s most recent addition, having joined Guster in 2010, after the release of their last record, Easy Wonderful. It all adds up to a fascinating peek into the of day to life of band that’s been doing its thing longer than many of its fans have been on this planet.
