The Ford Sierra RS Cosworth is best described as... Porsche-great. This week we're doing a deep dive into Ford's funky sedan of the 1980s: the Sierra, together with its American identical cousin, the Merkur XR4Ti. In the early 1980s, Ford of Europe (and chairman Bob Lutz) was on a mission to get a piece of the export pie that was dominated by Mercedes, BMW, and Audi. The car they conjured up to do so, the Sierra, was a massive success in Europe. When it eventually made it to the U.S., badged as a Merkur XR4Ti, Lutz's plan to sell the cars to yuppies via independent niche dealers was foiled, and the car was placed on Lincoln-Mercury dealer lots alongside big American barges and clueless salesmen, only to die a slow death. Meanwhile, on the other side of the pond, the extra-spicy Ford Sierra RS Cosworth was born. In fact, the car was so sought-after (i.e. stolen) by British hooligans that insurance companies refused to cover them. And it was so fast it was repeatedly banned from racing, eventually effectively spelling the end for Group A racing. Ford of Europe (headed up by Bob Lutz) was seeing the likes of BMW and Audi making a killing with their U.S. exports and Ford wanted in. The plan was to try something different, and rather than a Ford-branded import program where Sierras would be sold alongside LTDs, Cougars and other giant American sedans, Bob wanted to do a Ford of Europe export scheme where their new car could be sold alongside other European curios like Saabs and Volvos at independent dealers under a new brand name. They settled on Merkur (the German word for mercury – pronounced “maercoor”), but they also needed a new model name as Sierra was trademarked by Oldsmobile (think: Cutlass Ciera.) Ford used the “XR” prefix to denote a variety of upgraded model trims followed by a number which corresponded to the vehicle size – which is where XR4 comes from. Add abbreviations for “turbo” and “injection” and you're off to the races! Both the Merkur and Sierra RS Cosworth were powered by versions of Ford's Pinto 4-cylinder motor. The Merkur engine could also be found in the USDM Mercury Cougar XR7, Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, and Mustang SVO. Across the pond however, the Sierra engine went to Cosworth to get an aluminum head with an extra cam. The results were clear: the XR4Ti's motor needed 13 lbs of boost to pump out 175 hp, while the Cosworth version only needed 8 psi to make 200 hp. But the Cosworth got a whole host of additional modifications beyond the engine, and the resulting package was so exceptional it wound up getting banned from racing repeatedly, until eventually the regs shut down the entire series. The chassis is so exceptional that Jason proclaims it the best sedan chassis he's ever experienced – on the same level as a Porsche Cayman GT4. Transcendent. A 9.9/10. Where "Beatrice," his extensively modified E30, only managed a mid-8 (for the same reasons that caused Sreten at M539 Restoration to drive his into a tree). The likes of the Lotus Carlton didn't even garner a 5 from either Carmudgeon. Honorable mentions go to the Maserati Quattroporte, C126 560SEC, and a handful of M products. We'll even dive into every generation of M5 – E28 through G90. Lastly, we'll learn about 80s and 90s Lexus dealership brutalism, that “light” means window, our friend Mike's transient collection of eclectic cars has graced the show at least 3 times (thanks, Mike!), superbly compliant AWD cars like the Delta Integrale and Subaru WRX are good but rarely fun, and Bob Lutz had to fight tooth and nail to get a Chevrolet dealership in NorCal to sell him a Corvair Monza. A silver Chevy Equinox EV glides silently through city streets—presenting a study in contrasts to the raw power of NASCAR's most intimidating drivers featured in today's jam-packed automotive roundup.Ford's quality control takes center stage as we dissect an alarming series of recalls affecting models across their lineup. From steering column shifters that may detach to unexpected vehicle movements and rearview cameras displaying incorrectly, these aren't just assembly issues—they're fundamental product design problems requiring immediate attention. The frequency and severity of these recalls raise serious questions about reliability and safety that potential Ford buyers should consider.Transitioning to market values, our Heming's Sold Car Roundup reveals fascinating insights into what collectors are willing to pay for automotive history. A 1963 Corvette Restomod commands a jaw-dropping $142,590 while a beautifully preserved 1978 Toyota FJ40 fetches $47,250. Meanwhile, a 2006 Maserati Quattroporte—once the pinnacle of Italian luxury—sells for a mere $21,000, proving that prestige doesn't always translate to lasting value. These auction results offer a window into the complex psychology of automotive investments, where sentiment often outweighs practicality. The highlight of our show arrives with Jeff's "Gangsters of NASCAR" feature, chronicling the sport's most fearsome competitors. From Dale Earnhardt's intimidating presence to Cale Yarborough's willingness to throw hands with the Allison brothers, these drivers didn't just compete—they dominated through force of will and fearless determination. As modern NASCAR evolves toward a more sanitized experience, these legends remind us of racing's raw, combative roots. We wrap with an extensive review of the 2025 Chevy Equinox EV, exploring its 319-mile range, one-pedal driving capability, and surprising interior spaciousness.

Historically, sedans were viewed as non-collectibles. But history was wrong — these days, sedans are doing just fine. In this episode, Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott ("Hyphen") discuss the collectible and awesome sedan — everything from the Mercedes 6.9 and 6.3 to the W124 500E, and the AMG Hammer and Hammer Wagon 500E 6.0. To say nothing of the W201 190E 2.3-16 with its triumphant debut at the grand opening of the Nürburgring GP circuit in a one-marque race won by none other than Ayrton Senna. And then there's the non-Mercedes: BMW E28 M5, the E30 325i, E36 M3, E31 850i. And the discussion of Maserati Quattroporte versus GranCoupe. And Honda Prelude, Acura Integra, Camry Coupe, Lexus SC, and Buick Reatta. The Coupe story ends with a discussion of Jason's nephew's Infiniti G35 Coupe, which started its journey at a 24 Hours of Lemons race in San Francisco and Teen Driving School at Thunderhill Raceway and drove cross-country — and Tail of the Dragon. And then met a deer in South Carolina.

Thomas has been driving around in the Nissan Kicks that he thinks is the best value since No Frills. Adi's returned from a road trip in a Chevrolet Silverado with the new Duramax diesel engine, and we're talking about where in the current flagship world the Maserati Quattroporte fits in. Also, Adi is somewhat groaning about the Toyota 86 amidst some talk about walnuts.
I Klassiker 3/2020 vräker vi oss i lyxbilar som Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3, Maserati Quattroporte och Alfa Romeo Alfa 6. Men vad är lyx egentligen? Joakim Bergqvist, Claes Johansson och Carl Legelius har svaret!
Quattroporte means four-door - a boring name for a luxury car. But back in 1963, four doors were extraordinary for Maserati. This DW test was also extraordinary - with two experts trying out the new version of Italy's answer to the Mercedes S-Class.

What happens when Maserati buys a town in the Italian alps? Sami gets sent there to drive the Levante SUV and the Quattroporte sedan, in a completely normal and not at all creepy or isolated setting. Benjamin, on the other hand, had the opoortunity to drive both of Cadillac's top-tier models -the Escalade and the CT6 - back to back in a bid to figure out which one best represents the brand. He also spent time with Super Cruise, which is Cadillac's take on a robot driving your car for you on the highway - as long as you pay attention to what's happening at all times, human!
We’re back for 2018 and it’s a show with a bit of international flair! Pete is going to take us on a tour of Japan & he’ll crash a Nissan Leaf live on air! We’ll go touring car factories and get a sense of Tokyo traffic. Meanwhile, back here in Australia, we’ll take you around the block in the BMW M4 Pure and try and figure out what you miss out on by buying the cut down version of the iconic BMW. We’ll also stack up the M3 against the M4… is there a lot of difference apart from a couple of doors? Speaking of BMW, they’ve unveiled a funky new SUV - the X2 and Lenore Fletcher joins us with all the pricing details and release dates. The Maserati Quattroporte has been around a while. It’s recently been back to the factories in Modena & Turin for a bit of a nip and tuck. Glen Sealy, CEO of Maserati Australia, has all the details for us. Joel Helmes has been hanging with the new edition of Australia’s most popular mid-size car - the now fully imported Toyota Camry. Has the Japanese built Camry lifted the bar in comparison to the older Aussie version? We’ll find out. And Simon Lai & Rachel Franco make their return for 2018. Who know’s what will happen!

Maserati's flagship model has updated styling and features. It can be fitted with two different engines, a 4.2 litre and a 4.7 litre (on the S version). It is another engineering masterpiece; a testimony to the craftman's art designed by Pininfarina's distinctive hand.
Admire the Quattroporte range in all its glory.
