Talk about over-saturating the market. Transformers are coming fast and furious, but the Missing Links can't come fast enough for me. New Classified is coming too fast in my opinion, but Slice and Dice are welcome additions. While traditional Origins has been relegated to Mattel Creations exclusives, they have found a new niche, concept figures. What's the easiest way to tell we're getting too much product? Four words, Shadows of the Empire.

Title: Mattel Inc.: Forging Ahead with Resilience and Innovation During an earnings call held by Mattel, Inc. on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024, CEO Ynon Kreiz discussed the company's current standing and future outlook. Kreiz stated, "We expect the toy industry to decline in 2024, albeit at a slower pace than 2023. The projected decline is attributed to a less robust toy theatrical film slate and shifting consumer spending patterns leaning more towards experiences and services, which we believe will neutralize over the year." Amidst this impending decline, Mattel's latest financial performance reflects a degree of resilience, substantiated by sustained sales growth and an expanded market footprint. The company has reported a tangible improvement in sales and an appreciable growth in market margins. Faced with an overall industry contraction, Mattel has managed to innovate and adapt to secure increased market share in key categories. Their ability to swiftly respond to market fluctuations has allowed them to maintain a dynamic presence in the shifting toy market. Several of Mattel's product lines and activities have played central roles in its financial progress. Mattel's Barbie doll line continues to generate significant revenue and contribute to its overall financial health. The value of the Barbie franchise has been further amplified by associated merchandising opportunities from the Barbie film. Other notable contributors include the Hot Wheels and Monster High product ranges, with the latter being identified as a substantial growth driver in the Dolls category. The Disney princess and Frozen merchandise have also recorded a welcome return in consumer demand, and Mattel's adult collector-targeted sector, Mattel Creations, continues to experience positive growth. Key consumer trends that were highlighted during the earnings call indicate a shift toward brands that resonate with cultural discourses. The demand from adult collectors and pop culture enthusiasts is on the rise, and Mattel's successful omnichannel strategy has bolstered both market share and consumer engagement. Looking ahead, Kreiz advised, "As we look to 2024, we believe we are competitively positioned and will continue to outpace the industry and gain market share," indicating Mattel's focus on enhancing profitability, improving gross margins, and bolstering cash generation. The company is also open to potential mergers and acquisitions and has a continuing share repurchase strategy. Mattel has initiated the 'Optimizing for Profitable Growth Program,' which aims at annual savings of $200 million from the year 2024 to 2026. In conclusion, Mattel, Inc. has shown through their strategic investments that it is possible to drive growth and efficiency even in a contracting market. While they have made significant progress, the future warrants cautious optimism, given the factors at play in the overall toy industry. For now, Mattel's ability to tap into evolving consumer trends and its resilience give it some reason for confidence. The Mattel Creations fan vote for the next made to order projects is over but we managed to catch it on it's last day when we were live. It sparked some rather heated debate about the current state of the toy industry. Once the dust settled on that, we showed off some awesome vintage items up for auction at this link right here: https://entertainment.ha.com/c/auction-home.zx?saleNo=49152&type=dmc-fansofpower-49152-toys-090823 Finally, Tyler reads the draft script for She-Ra's appearance in the '87 live action film. Enjoy!

I feel great about all the new Joes we're seeing, but that's because I'm a sub-team whore. I know everyone is loving Classified, but is that because they also love these sub-teams or are they just caught up in the hype? Those with a Sail Barge should be super-happy with the new Droid Factory R2-S4M. I love that we're getting a new screen-based character from ROTJ. While it makes me happy to see any brand I love utilizing graffiti, not quite sure the Amazon Battle in Brooklyn makes me as happy as it should. The performance of the latest Mattel Creations drops has me worried. At least for Masterverse. Both of the latest drops are still available. Maybe the snapping turtle tank wasn't the best idea for Vykron.

These toy companies have been busy to varying degrees of success. The HasLab HISS killed it! Now bring on more stretch goals. I cannot wait to see the new Star Wars Micro Galaxy in stores. Especially the Troop Transport. However, the “new” Transformers Crossovers have a lot to be desired. Mattel tried to pull a fast one by putting the new Mega Construx or now just MEGA Snake Mountain on Mattel Creations. Not only is the going to be a mass release, but the Creations orders are still just pre-orders.

On Episode 141 of Bouncing Back, I interviewed Erik Sederberg who is currently a freelance Creative Director/Writer at Mattel Creations. This is also my 99th episode in partnership with The Avail List.Erik is an experienced, dynamic creative who started his advertising career in healthcare. After realizing he wanted to pivot to more consumer goods he went to Portfolio Center to master his craft. Since then, Erik has worked on all sorts of different brands. He loves experiential, focusing on how to speak to different audiences, and wants to find a role where he can continue to learn and mentor younger talent. He's more impressed by people than the name on an agency door, enjoys a good work and play balance, and is happy that brands are finally realizing they are part of a bigger mission than just selling their individual products. If you're looking for a “nerd” with no ego, who is always eager to help, reach out to Erik immediately. https://lnkd.in/exfS544Bvimeo.com/696109478#BouncingBack #Covid19 #JobSearch #Advertising

This week on the show it's a singles match as Mat is tackling the show solo style as Adam is on vacation. All the normal segments are covered, but it's a little strange without Adam's wit and insight. The Retro Raw Review is heading on a crash course to IYH: Ground Zero, and was a very pivotal episode in the shows history. Rocky Maivia sides with the Nation of Domination, and, although its not named, DX is formed with HBK, HHH, Chyna and a returning Rick Rude come together. After that we update some new signees for Zombie Sailor and give an update on the Mattel Creations crowd funded playset. The show finishes up with Mat chatting about the wrestling that was consumed since we last sat down. Enjoy!

On this episode, we learned a lot. Sometimes in real-time. Like we'll be getting an entire wave of Mandalorian Retro Collection figures. Mattel is doing some pretty cool things at Mattel Creations, including a clear Origins Skeletor. Just wish I would have learned of it sooner. We had heard rumors about the third wave of Classified, but now the trusted source that revealed earlier waves including the Cobra Island exclusives, confirms it will be Lady Jay, Flint, and Major Bludd. Finally, Transformers is doing a 6-pack of Micromasters. Not too exciting right? Well two of them are M.A.S.K. homages. One is of my favorite M.A.S.K. vehicle, the Hurricane. $30 for one Micromaster?
Richard and Chris talk to Richard Dickson, President & COO of Mattel and get his unique, inspiring and informative take on toys, play and the opportunities and responsibilities for Mattel in this dynamic time. From tools for parents to an organizational commitment to diversity to the launch of Mattel Creations, Richard's enthusiasm, vision and commitment to leading the world's largest toy company is a must-listen for anyone who cares about kids, culture and play. In the Endcap, Chris & Richard talk about how the separation of kids and the lack of schoolyard influence may impact the toy industry this year.
