"Basically, if there is a book in you that just has to come out, I'm your surgeon? Mid-wife? Sorcerer? Shrink?" notes prolific ghostwriter Valerie Frankel. "Whichever metaphor works for you, that's the best one ever." Val knows what it takes to discover the story in a life well-lived—and, how to reach for just the right metaphor to ensure that the story lands in just the right way. As the author or co-author of over 50 books, including dozens written in collaboration with some of our leading performers, personalities, and change agents, she's emerged as one of publishing's leading ghostwriters, with five New York Times best-sellers to her credit. She's also an accomplished novelist, memoirist and book-doctor—a writer who's been helping to shape our national conversation for the past twenty years. That conversation started with a decade-long stint at Mademoiselle, where Val worked as articles editor, while building her freelance career as a contributor to Good Housekeeping, Self, Allure, Glamour, Parenting, and pretty much every major woman's magazine on U.S. newsstands. On the side, she found time to launch her career as a novelist, publishing her first novel, A Deadline for Murder, and a series of popular YA novels, including Fringe Girl and Fringe Girl in Love, as well as the critically-acclaimed memoirs It's Hard Not to Hate You and Thin is the New Happy. One of Val's very first celebrity collaborations was with the iconic Joan Rivers—an outrageously funny primer on the ins and outs and nips and tucks of plastic surgery called Men Are Stupid... and They Like Big Boobs. (Such a great title!) She also helped to write two novels with Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, who burst onto the pop culture scene with the MTV's ground-breaking (and head-scratching) "Jersey Shore" reality series (A Shore Thing, Gorilla Beach), as well as books with comedian Sebastian Maniscalco (Stay Hungry), "Dallas" star Linda Gray (The Road to Happiness is Always Under Construction) and "Real Housewife" Aviva Drescher (Leggy Blonde). Most recently, Val made a bunch of noise with a series of books that shined meaningful light on what it meant to live and work in the orbit of our former president: Ivana Trump's Raising Trump, Omarosa Manigault Newman's Unhinged, and Stephanie Winston Wolkoff's Melania and Me—all national best-sellers. She says she expected some normalcy, having worked in the Clinton White House, but it was "bizarre from day one" with the early introduction of a Muslim ban.Manigault-Newman says that Trump was engaging and a good communicator when they first met on the first season of The Apprentice, but that has changed over 17 years. "The last time I had to brief him, he could not focus, he could barely read what I wrote on the note cards, and he kept forgetting what time of day it was and what event I was talking about."In terms of his mental state, there is deterioration." In terms of Trump's attitude towards race, Manigault-Newman says that he is racist, and that the recent book by his niece, Mary Trump, "shook her to her core". "She talked about him utilising the n-word throughout her lifetime. Can you just imagine I was around this man for 17 years of my life?"She says that behind his facade, there is a lot of racism and bigotry in Trump.Despite cutting all ties with Trump in 2017, asides from ongoing lawsuits over her book, Unhinged, Manigault-Newman says that she still has contacts in his camps. There are several signs that his standing in the race is deteriorating, she says, including Trump cancelling a planned victory party and downsizing it to a smaller gathering at the White House.Another critical factor for him is his difficulties raising money. "He has under-raised money. His campaign is in a significant amount of debt. It has left a trail of bills and debt across the nation at these rallies, not paying people, not paying vendors." However, if Trump loses, there are many concerns that he will not stand down peacefully. Manigault-Newman says that the windows in Washington DC are boarded up in anticipation of an "all-out war" that Trump will incite should he lose. "If he does not win, please note that he will not go peacefully, he has a bloodthirst that is dangerous. He will encourage his followers to respond with violence if necessary."LISTEN ABOVE

Protégé Podcast is back! This week we launch our series on Beltway Insiders and discuss the career lessons from Omarosa Manigault Newman. Is her story a cautionary tale about being a strong-willed woman of color in the workplace? Did she deserve to be fired so dramatically? Has her tell-all book earned her an invitation back to the BBQ? I talk with lawyer and communications expert Shaunna Jones about what we can and should learn from Omarosa’s story. On the Rant/Rave/Review Segment, I talk about Serena Williams' unfair treatment at the US Open, Nike’s Colin Kaepernick campaign, and some intriguing content on Netflix.
Here's why we must pray for Omarosa Manigault Newman, not criticize or judge her.

This week, we realize we have two black klansmen on our hands — one on the big screen in the form of Spike Lee's new film "BlacKkKlansman," and one on the small screen in the form of America's most notorious reality show villain turned ex-White House employee, Omarosa Manigault Newman. Both the film and person showcase black people infiltrating hostile white institutions and coming out the other side to tell us about it. We question, however, if the message they're bringing us was worth the journey.Discussed this week:"BlacKkKlansman" (directed by Spike Lee, 2018)"Unhinged: An Insider's Account of the Trump White House" (Omarosa Manigault Newman, Gallery Books, 2018)"The Apprentice" (NBC, 2004)"Donald J. Well, our president is at it again. His latest insult was directed at Omarosa Manigault Newman, the ex White House aide whose recent book, “Unhinged” ruffled Trump’s feathers. Using Twitter, Trump called Omarosa a “lowlife” and a “dog.” I guess he can’t help himself with the demeaning public comments about women, especially women who have the audacity to challenge or disagree with him. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/elk-grove-news/support

This week Trump met his match in former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman, who launched a new book and publicly shared her stories and perspectives on Trump and his regime members. Their feud played out like a reality TV show, as Omarosa released recordings and White House staffers reportedly are living in fear of the next shoes to drop. Trump reportedly sought to distract from Omarosa's tour by revoking the security clearance of former CIA director John Brennan, an unprecedented, authoritarian-like move that set up another public battle with intelligence officers, while Republicans largely stood silent. As the first Paul Manafort trial went for jury deliberation, Trump and Manafort's attorney seemed strangely simpatico, raising concerns. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. We’ll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We’ll examine news reports from the past seven days and – hopefully – promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS Former aid to President Donald Trump, Omarosa Manigault-Newman garnered substantial attention this week with allegations that she had a recording of the president saying nigger. The Commander and Chief used social media to brand his former employee a "crazed, crying lowlife," and a "dog." Speaking of animals, a black Oregon horse was horribly abused until his named was changed to "Justice." The newly christened steed has a pending Supreme Court case to affirm his constitutional rights. While the mightiest court in the land adjudicates rights of a horse, Pennsylvania is investigating another massive child rape scandal in the state. Many Suspected Racist members of The Roman Catholic Church have been accused of approximately 1,000 acts of child rape and molestation. A number of Whites participated in concealing this demonic behavior for years, which again corroborates Gus's conclusion that Whites are the greatest proponents of the "no snitch" gang policy. This also conifrms Gus's conclusion that Whites do not value children. This week also saw the passing of entertainment icon, Aretha Franklin. She died at the age of 76. Franklin's father was a comrade of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and she used her immense talents to counter-racism. A horrible situation has come to light in Pennsylvania as a grand jury report alleges that Catholic Church officials systematically covered up the sexual abuse of more than 1000 children by more than 300 priests in the past 70 years. John Luciew, reporter for PennLive, joins us for more on the report including how the diocese helped avoid scandal by terms as sick leave and health leave when priests were removed or relocated because of abuse allegations. Next, President Trump has revoked the security clearance of ex-CIA Director John Brennan citing “erratic conduct and behavior.” The news comes on the heels of recent tweets from Brennan that were critical of the president for calling Omarosa Manigault Newman a dog and also calling his meeting with Vladimir Putin treasonous. Caitlin Owens, reporter for Axios, joins us for more and also the news that the administration is considering revoking clearances for other former intelligence officials. Finally, it might win the prize for the worst job in America. San Francisco has decided to form a Poop Patrol, to keep the sidewalks clean. Between the beginning of the year and this past Monday, San Francisco residents have called the city to report feces on the street a whopping 14,597 times, and it's not all animal poop. The RNC will not be returning Wynn’s contributions following his sexual assault accusations. An FBI lawyer texted a bureau agent that then-President Obama “wants to know everything we’re doing” — a message that a Senate committee suggested could refer to the federal investigation of Hillary Clinton’s emails. The messages shared between attorney Lisa Page and her lover and bureau colleague Peter Strzok were released Wednesday by the Senate Homeland Security Committee, which provides oversight of the bureau, and is chaired by GOP Sen.
