India's public education system is riddled with several critical gaps. In 2013, Mantra4Change was set up with the mission to holistically transform public school systems through collective collaboration. Four years later, Mantra4Change found a natural ally in ShikshaLokam — under the aegis of Shibulal Family Philanthropic Initiative — to address the education leadership challenges. So, what's the big idea? These two non-profits are driving collective action for systemic transformation across 275,000 schools in India by roping in both public and private stakeholders. In this episode, Khushboo Awasthi, COO, ShikshaLokam; and Co-founder, Mantra4Change; dives deep into how these NGOs are fixing the broken public education system and bringing about all-round student development. Welcome back to Season Two of the School to Homeschool podcast! We kick off with an incredibly insightful conversation with Dr. Corey DeAngelis, a leading advocate for school choice and a familiar face from Fox News. Corey shares his extensive background in education policy and research, revealing the long-term benefits of school choice, including crime reduction. He also discusses his personal educational journey, including his experience at a magnet school in San Antonio, Texas, and critiques the flawed system of assigning schools based on residential addresses. As Corey anticipates the birth of his first child, his passion for educational freedom becomes even more urgent and personal. This episode also explores the shifting education landscape due to the pandemic, highlighting the rise of homeschooling, private schools, and charter schools as families push back against indoctrination and curriculum misalignments. We examine the increasing tension between parents and school boards, the controversial actions of the National School Boards Association, and the FBI's response to parental protests. Corey passionately argues for the importance of treating parents as partners in their children's education and the benefits of reallocating education funding to better suit individual student needs. We then address the future of school choice, focusing on the rise of homeschooling and alternative education models during COVID-19, and the significant impact of Education Savings Accounts (ESAs). Corey discusses the opposition from teachers' unions and the potential implications of widespread school choice adoption, including increased government regulation on homeschooling. We conclude by emphasizing the power of parental pushback, the importance of parental control in education, and the transformative potential of school choice to foster educational freedom and quality. Listen in to hear about the Parent Revolution and how it continues to inspire and empower families in their educational journeys. They reflect on previous episodes, including an interview with Amanda's sister, and express frustration with the lack of teacher agency and the systemic issues stemming from structural sexism in the profession. They criticize the dominance of certain reading programs and the pushback against the science of reading. The episode also touches on the need for teacher-led curriculum development, the problems of climate and culture in schools, and the severe impact of the pandemic on teaching conditions. They call for respect, proper compensation for teachers, and a shift in focus from strictly academics to trauma-informed practices to address the burnout and behavioral issues they're observing in students. So just the day before Thanksgiving my buddy sent me a news article that told the story of an elementary school in California who had authorized an after school club for Satanists. Let me say that again…an elementary after school club for Satanists. I found the timing interesting because just a few days before that I had a conversation with Russ Barlow about the state of public education. Now for those who haven't listened to Russ's first time on the podcast I would encourage you to go back and listen to episode #35. Now on this episode Russ and I take deep dive on how modern education has got to the point it has in regards to indoctrinating our children. As Russ and I explore the origins of public education there are many points at which I get freaked the hell out on just how evil and insidious the design was. By three quarters of the way into our conversation you will no longer be wondering how a story like the one I mentioned earlier can happen in public education. Here's the good news, at the end Russ gives a very candid answer on what we can do as parents to save our children. Now in a first for this podcast I have video for this episode. The reason I did this is I felt the visuals that Russ uses are super important. So you can see that here or at my YouTube channel Mormon Renegade Podcast and for those who prefer just to listen that format is available as well. To what extent? Are you ok with your kids confiding in their teachers? Do you expect teachers to relay things said in confidence to you or can they use their discretion?  When it comes to kids emotions are always heightened and while people will most definitely disagree on the appropriate way to move forward these are very real questions and it's important that we continue to have these important conversations so get ready ‘cuz it's time to ManTFUp!

If you would like to know more about my thoughts on this particular topic, please do stay tuned. Whew. Education is a big one. It's a big topic. It's something that is painful for many NeuroDivergent People, Autistic People. That is because the school systems are designed and tailored to teach one style of learner and one type of teaching. Those of us who learn, and experience, and process information differently are often treated as if we are problems, when we fail to fit into the neuro-typical education system. In America, we all must value the public services sector. The oversight process eliminated overtime for the Black community. Suppose we understand the Magnet Schools' intent and the understanding of integration and all across American where Magnet school are operating these schools in their presentation of public services. And Magnet schools have been very successful, which demonstrates America's greatness has always been working together. Let us all understand that there is no Catch-Up in the public school system. As Americans, we all have a responsibility to participate in the outcomes and examine the children's educational options. The oversight process is established by the receipt of the federal funds, yet; all Americans do not participate in the "maintenance of effort" My journey has provided evidence that all people have access to only what they understand that the benefits are out there. The reality is a closed mouth can not be feed. My journey brought me to Las Vegas three years ago with a desire to understand just what was going on in the lack of educational attainment and the lack of outcomes for all children. Yet the lack of sustainable options for Black Americans and the creation of programs, not educational services, where children could reach educational attainment of age appropriated behavior. Critical is understand that a state is only responsible for being involved in the process of educating your children. You are the one who has the choice to battle for the services that all children are entitled to "IDEA 2004"! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/darlene-anderson/message

The public education system is failing our children. Almost two-thirds of our eighth graders aren't proficient in reading or math. And in a single school year, US public schools see almost a million incidents of violence, a number that continues to grow. Suzanne DeMallie, author of Can You Hear Me Now?, exposes the unsettling reality of our classrooms with a brutally honest account of the policies and practices that leave so many children behind. As a parent, DeMallie fought a nationwide battle against bureaucracy for the simple, common-sense idea that children in the back of a classroom should be able to hear their teacher. Now, as a teacher herself, DeMallie is speaking loud and clear, fighting public-school dysfunction on the inside. She walks parents and teachers through everything they need to know to make a difference in their local district and beyond, from the most basic questions they should be asking to the most effective steps they can take to make their voices heard. Suzanne Rupp DeMallie taught for seven years in the Baltimore County Public School system. Research into her own son's learning difficulties led her to author the Classroom Auditory Learning Issues resolution, adopted by the National PTA in July, 2007. Her work has appeared in Our Children Magazine, T.H.E. Journal, Towson Times, and The Baltimore Sun.
