There is no "war" without "attack." Conflict of any kind involves attack thoughts. And ultimately this "intent" is murder. What is not loving must be attack. What is not Love is "murder." Conflict must have attack in it. It is all part of our unconscious "death urge." We do not overcome any tendency by "fighting against it." The Action to be Free is an ending. There is a kind of "death" that is this ending, which gives us a new beginning. It is the doorway to eternal Life. It is not a "death" as we know it. It is the Awakening ultimately from the ending of illusions. Can we rise "above the Battleground?" The Battleground is the ego's chosen field in which it enacts its conflicts and contradictions. It keeps its illusions "alive" in this ground of utter destruction, justifying "murder" through a "righteous rage." The Overlooking of the Battleground is now our purpose. Our purpose is to realize God, which is Absolute Peace and Joy. This is our Heaven State. It is ours when we truly remove ourselves from ALL FORMS of conflict.

Cambridge Pro Bono Project hosted Eileen Dong at the Faculty of Law on Wednesday, 15 May 2024. Eileen Dong, a renowned UN Ambassador, distinguished member of the US Committee for Refugees & Immigrants Advisory Board, and expert in combating human trafficking, will explore the critical intersections between UN’s 2030 Global Goals and the ongoing efforts to address gender-based violence and human trafficking. Drawing from her extensive experience and multidisciplinary approach, Ambassador Dong sheds light on the vital role of cross-sector collaborations in addressing human rights violations and gender-based violence. Serving as the Founder and Executive Director of Hope Pyx Global as well as a consultant for US Center for Countering Human Trafficking, Homeland Security Investigations, Department of Justice, US Attorney’s Office, and US Citizenship and Immigration Services, Dong has committed her work to eliminating abuse, exploitation, trafficking, violence, and torture, while building safe spaces for survivors from all backgrounds. Dong's expertise has been recognized at prestigious events such as the UNODC World Day Against Trafficking in Persons and the OSCE Conference of the Alliance against Trafficking in Persons. Her innovative approaches encourage cross-sector, intergenerational, and multidisciplinary collaborations “glocally”. Dong has played a pivotal role in advising on the UN's Declaration of Human Rights by the American Youth, aimed at eliminating abuse and exploitation, and participating in the Department of Homeland Security’s Roundtable, offering invaluable insights to enhance policies and programs in investigating human trafficking cases, as well as improving support for survivors. Furthermore, Dong successfully testified in favor of the passage of TX SB 49, resulting in almost tripling the crime victims’ compensation, and the allocation of $1 million for the first Trauma Recovery Center in Texas. On November 19th, 1963, nine days before Thanksgiving, President Kennedy received a turkey from the Poultry and Egg Board. The President always looked forward to New England Thanksgivings. That same day, in the concluding event for the three-day centennial celebration of the Gettysburg Address, former U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower addressed the crowd at the rededication for the Gettysburg National Cemetery. He told the audience, "My friends, Lincoln reminded his hearers that they had no power to dedicate this ground. So we, today, have no power to rededicate it. But with the playing of Taps, the soldier's farewell, we can share the grief of every family who has heard that a son or father or sweetheart has fallen. If we can do this, we will begin to do our part to solve the unfinished business of which Lincoln spoke." That evening, Jean Shepherd signed on talking family folk stories and poking fun at WOR. The next day, at the UN General Assembly, the Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination was adopted, while the deathbed wish of author Aldous Huxley was honored by his wife Laura. She injected him with two-hundred micrograms of LSD. Huxley would die two days later.

*Trigger Warning: today's episode includes content dealing with upsetting, sensitive and potentially triggering themes including sexual violence, torture, and death.  Sexual Violence in armed conflict is not a new phenomena and this epidemic of sexual violence as “weapon of war” has existed for as long as there has been conflict. Sexual violence during armed conflict as a crime against humanity has been formally recognized through the establishment of the International Criminal Court as well as in international instruments such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women adopted by United Nations General Assembly in 1970. However, as stated in the 2022 Conflict-Related Sexual Violence Report of the UN Secretary-General and shown in the ongoing Russia's invasion of Ukraine, women and children continue to suffer from sexual violence and the Covid-19 pandemic and heightened natural disasters and conflict have elevated risks of sexual exploitation. In recognition of the upcoming International Women's Day, this episode aims to break the silence around sexual violence which is often a peripheral concern in any armed conflict.  In the first segment, Dr. Noëlle Quénivet will talk about the international legal and policy framework regarding sexual violence in armed conflict including its limitations and how the existing system can be improved to appropriately and effectively address conflict-related sexual violence.  The second segment of the episode focuses on the situation in the Ukraine War where, Professor Kim Thuy Seelinger provides some insight into the current efforts to investigate and prosecute cases of sexual violence in the invasion of Ukraine.  Producers: Yunji Hwang - Junior Producer Anukriti Randev - Junior Producer Raagini Singh Panwar - Junior Producer   Further Reading: Noelle Quénivet (first speaker) and Melanie O'Brien. The Covenant deals with such rights as freedom of movement; equality before the law; the right to a fair trial and presumption of innocence; freedom of thought, conscience and religion; freedom of opinion and expression; peaceful assembly; freedom of association; participation in public affairs and elections; and protection of minority rights. It prohibits arbitrary deprivation of life; torture, cruel or degrading treatment or punishment; slavery and forced labour; arbitrary arrest or detention; arbitrary interference with privacy; war propaganda; discrimination; and advocacy of racial or religious hatred. COAL lobbies the Australian Commonwealth and other state and territory Governments to remove discrimination against lesbians. COAL lobbied at the UN 4th World Conference on Women, Beijing, 1995, and co-hosted the first international lesbian-space tent at the 1995 NGO Forum. Among a number of other organisations, COAL successfully lobbied for the Australian Government to sign the Optional Protocol to the Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). They are Australia's national lesbian advocacy organisation and the only United Nations accredited lesbian non-government organisation. Women's Declaration International (WDI) Feminist Question Time is our weekly online webinars. It is attended by a global feminist and activist audience of between 200-300. The main focus is how gender ideology is harming the rights of women and girls. You can see recordings of previous panels on our YouTube Channel. WDI is the leading global organisation defending women's sex-based rights against the threats posed by gender identity ideology. There is more information on the website womensdeclaration.com where you will find our Declaration on Women's Sex-based rights, which has been signed by more 30,000 people from 157 countries and is supported by 418 organisations. She is a long time feminist, lesbian and trade union activist in France, Australia, briefly in the UK, and transnationally. She is Co-founder & director of independent feminist publisher Spinifex Press Disclaimer: Women's Declaration International (WDI) hosts a range of women from all over the world on Feminist Question Time (FQT) and Radical Feminist Perspectives (RFP) and on webinars hosted by country chapters – all have signed our Declaration or have known histories of feminist activism - but beyond that, we do not know their exact views or activism. WDI does not know in detail what they will say on webinars. The views expressed by speakers in these videos are not necessarily those of WDI and we do not necessarily support views or actions that speakers have expressed or engaged in at other times. As well as the position stated in our Declaration on Women's Sex-based Rights, WDI opposes sexism, racism and anti-semitism. Please note: this is the English language recording of this event. At times there may be pauses due to the use of an interpreter. This event was the launch of 'Challenging Narratives of ‘Fate and Divine Will': Access to Justice for Gender-Based Violence in Iraq' co-authored by Taif Alkhudary, Marwa Abdul Ridah, Anfal Abed and Amal Kabashi as part of the LSE Conflict Research Programme (CRP)–Iraq. This study draws on data collected from 34 interviews to examine access to justice for gender-based violence (GBV) in the family and criminal law systems of federal Iraq. It finds that it remains near impossible for women to access effective protection, with the government of Iraq (GoI) falling short of every one of the six components identified by the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW Committee) as essential for women's access to justice. The paper highlights the urgent need for the GoI to work with civil society to enact the draft anti-domestic violence law. It also recommends that the GoI take broader, longer-term holistic measures, including tackling high-level and petty corruption and providing gender-sensitivity training to all law enforcement professionals, highlighting the detrimental impact of gender stereotyping on the impartiality and independence of justice systems and the rule of law. Taif Alkhudary is an Iraq-focused Research Officer at the LSE Middle East Centre. Previously, she conducted strategic litigation on civil and political rights in Iraq and the Gulf. Marwa Abdul Ridah is a lawyer and founder of Baghdad-based legal advocacy NGO ‘For Her'. Anfal Abed is Projects Director of Public Aid Organisation (PAO), Iraq. Previously, she worked on gender-based violence in conflicted-affected areas in Iraq. Amal Kabashi is a feminist activist and the coordinator of the Iraqi Women Network. She is leading the advocacy campaign to legislate an anti-domestic violence law in Iraq.

To Regard racial discrimination as a crime2. And to prohibit and bring to an end all organizations that incite and promote racial discrimination. Religious organizations including Catholic, Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Judaism operating in in jurisdictions under all UN member states are in clear violation of the convention as these religious organizations incite racial discrimination resulting in actors of terror, bigotry and poverty and the denial of legal rights to the minority. Under Article 2, Each State Party shall prohibit and bring to an end, by all appropriate means, including legislation as required by circumstances, racial discrimination by any persons, group or organization. Under Article 4, all UN party members who signed this Convention, shall declare illegal and prohibit organizations (including religious), how they organize and their propaganda activities. I petition all UN member states and the UN to put all mainstream religious organizations on trial whose practices, and teach propaganda and policies that instigate and promote racism. In addition, to hold all UN member states legally accountable for failure to prosecute religious organizations for their promotion of racism. In addition, former UN member states including Taiwan who signed this convention are still legally bound to uphold it despite no longer being a UN member state and should be held accountable internationally in these regards. Amy: Welcome to Breaking Down Patriarchy! I'm Amy McPhie Allebest. Today's topic may be difficult for some listeners - we will be talking about violence against women, including all kinds of physical and sexual violence. The essential text we are discussing is the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women, given at the United Nations in 1993, and we are including it in this history-based project on systemic patriarchy because throughout history, violence against women and particularly domestic abuse was seen as a private matter, sometimes in some places, even endorsed by the state. But even when not promoted, patriarchal institutions have condoned or disregarded violence against women, looking the other way and failing to protect victims and survivors, and instead protecting the perpetrators of that violence. Even the United Nations' Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, or CEDAW, in 1979 (and listeners should look that up if you haven't heard of it), neglected to address violence against women. So in 1993, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted this resolution, the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and we'll be sharing passages from it today. It's an incredibly important declaration, and in addition we will be sharing important, difficult stories that require a lot of strength. My reading partners and I went over this content in a very detailed way beforehand so that they could choose what they wanted to talk about, and I'm really honored and grateful for this amazing mother-daughter team, Elena and Abigail Gonzalez, who are with me today to discuss this issue!    Hi, Elena and Abigail!   Elena/Abby: Hi, Amy!   Amy: Our family met Elena and Abigail in California in 2006, and we have been dear friends ever since. Occasionally in my life I have had a feeling, right when I met someone, that I knew them already, which in my religious tradition we explain with the belief that all human beings lived together as siblings in one family before we were born. Elena, I had that feeling really strongly when I met you, like “oh, I know you,” like I remembered you.  That's only happened a handful of times in my life, and I'm so grateful that we are friends. And Abigail, we have known and loved you since you were little, and I'm so grateful that you agreed to be here and have this important discussion today!   Abby: Response   Amy: So I'm wondering if you can talk a little bit about yourselves and tell your story. Elena, why don't you go first.           Elena: My name is Elena Gonzalez. I was born in Mexico, and I grew up with seven siblings, three sisters and three brothers. It was a family that was really dysfunctional. Unfortunately, ever since I can remember, I have suffered abuse….[pause] of every type. My mom and dad were completely oblivious to everything going on… my siblings and I were pretty much on our own. My parents eventually separated, and I remained alone with two older brothers, so at that point I was the youngest. As time passed the abuses continued… from cousins, my brother - my own brother - [pause]... step-fathers, when my mom brought us with her to their houses.    As I grew up I never went to school. I wanted to go to school, so finally I started when I was ten years old, and I attended until I finished my first year of high school in Mexico. Then I came to the United States. Like so many people I immigrated to the United States without any documents. It was really difficult and I arrived here with my mom and one brother and one sister. Once I arrived here they didn't put me in school; instead they took me to work, and I have been working ever since.    After awhile I met the man who is the father of my three children. (pause) Unfortunately it was an experience that went on for 15 years and was really really difficult. At the...

Indigenous, Environmental and Community Leaders Call on U.S to Respond to UN Letter About Human Rights Abuses of Indigenous People and Line 3 “We believe that good nations should uphold their treaties and good countries should not wage war on Indigenous peoples.” Washington, DC (September 3, 2021) -- Winona LaDuke, Tara Houska and Kate Finn hosted a press call in response to the recent letter sent from the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) to the United States regarding allegations of human rights violations against the Anishinaabe associated with the Enbridge Line 3 pipeline construction. On August 31, CERD published a letter to the U.S. Government dated August 25, requesting that the U.S. respond to these allegations. The letter notes, among other things, that these rights violations would amount to a violation of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD), which the U.S. has signed and ratified. The letter requests that the U.S. Government provide information on how it guarantees the right to free, prior, and informed consent; prevents adverse impacts of the pipeline on the Anishinaabe and their culture, health, and environment; guarantees the right to an effective remedy to these rights violations; and prevents violence against Indigenous women and excessive force against protestors. The following are portions of the speakers' statements from the call: Tara Houska, Founder of the Giniw Collective “Governor Walz and President Biden have said nothing as unarmed, non-violent water protectors have been hit with rubber bullets, mace, and been subjected to so-called “pain compliance” in the past month. I'm one of those water protectors. As I sit with scars caused by rubber bullets paid for by a tar sands company called Enbridge and my friends tend to potentially permanent facial paralysis, elected officials continue to tout themselves as climate leaders. You can't allow one of the largest tar sands infrastructure projects in North America through Indigenous lands and the Mississippi River headwaters and be a climate leader. Their silence is appalling. Stop Line 3, now.” Winona La Duke, Executive Director, Honor the Earth “What we have seen over the past seven years is the Enbridge corporation, with the cooperation of the Canadian and now the United States government, succeeding in violating our rights consistently; not only to free prior and informed consent, but also our human rights in terms of sex trafficking, violations of our rights in terms of police brutality and injuries that have occurred as rubber bullets have been shot at our people by Minnesota law enforcement and paid for by Enbridge. We've seen the destruction of our rivers, we've had 28 frac-outs which have burned our wild rice and our rivers, and we've had 5 billion gallons of water taken from our people, in a time of the worst drought in the history of Minnesota. Here we have a Canadian multinational corporation that is not only a climate criminal in a time of climate chaos, but a corporation and a country which is now promoting violence against Indigenous peoples, a total denial of our rights to continue food security, existence, environmental eco-side damage, and certainly the violation of treaty rights and all agreements under our laws and and under international laws.” Kate R. Finn, Esq., Executive Director, First Peoples Worldwide, University of Colorado “Now that the United Nations committee has responded to the petitions sent by Honor the Earth and the Giniw Collective, the United States is in a position to respond. These kinds of petitions and requests are sent to the UN all of the time, and the committee doesn't often have the opportunity to respond to all of them, but it responded here.”

Elizabeth explains that a lot of the times sexual orientation or gender identity are often not tracked when trying to find the reason for suicidal tendencies. This leads to the statistics being skewed and not accurate. Tommy then switches the conversation to what the Solace House needs to grow. Danielle explains that geographical expansion is their main priority. Putting a headquarters in every state and major city. Next, Danielle says funding and collaborations is the next step in growing the organization.‍Segment 4The final segment opens up with Tommy bringing the conversation to the walk out of darkness event. Danielle explains it is about breaking through the stigma of mental health in our country. Starting in the darkness represents the alone feeling most people may feel when first signing up for the service, but eventually bringing themselves to light. The show closes out with Elizabeth giving some insight on how we can see the signs of degrading mental health in our loved ones.

The International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) is a United Nations convention. A third-generation human rights instrument, the Convention commits its members to the elimination of racial discrimination and the promotion of understanding among all races. Controversially, the Convention also requires its parties to outlaw hate speech and criminalize membership in racist organizations. The Convention also includes an individual complaints mechanism, effectively making it enforceable against its parties. This has led to the development of a limited jurisprudence on the interpretation and implementation of the Convention. The convention was adopted and opened for signature by the United Nations General Assembly on 21 December 1965, and entered into force on 4 January 1969. As of October 2015, it has 88 signatories and 177 parties. The Convention is monitored by the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD).
