Thanks for joining us for another episode of highlighting change makers and their inspirational work towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this episode: How does Natasha's camera dance highlight the impact of warming on two-story lakes and fish habitats? How does combining dance and camera choreography symbolize the freedom and restriction of movement? How is Wisconsin Water Week raising awareness about unique water structures and their importance? Find out from Natasha Forrest - a Dance and Elementary Education student at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Natasha shares her innovative art piece, a camera dance that combines choreographed dancing with choreographed camera movements. Inspired by two-story lakes, which are coldwater lakes shrinking in the summer due to warming and deoxygenation, the dance aims to raise awareness about the shrinking habitat of fish. The dance begins with expansive movements and camera angles to symbolize freedom and gradually becomes more constricted, reflecting the reduced space for fish. Natasha also emphasizes the importance of Wisconsin Water Week in raising awareness about unique water structures in the state. Click play now to soak up what she has to share! As of September 2023, she will have completed her 8th full distance race. Coach Erin is looking forward to coaching with C26 because she believes as human beings, we are made to accomplish hard things. It's campaign season. Time to ratchet up your fear that that one presidential candidate is going to bring ruin on your country. From here on out, the rhetoric about fighting the other side is only going to heat up. We're going to avoid that. Instead, we look back at a different approach that changed Midwestern politics…twice. It's not about fighting your enemy, although it's not exactly about being nice and gentle with them either. It's about surveying the landscape, the needs of the people around you, and getting them together – the churches, the unions, the farmers, the citizens' organizations, getting them all on the same page (maybe they don't agree with everything, but they agree on enough) and either getting the right candidate on the ballot, or just forcing the hand of the person in office. It's called…organizing. And my guest today has some stories about how it happened. Cory Haala is an assistant professor of history at the University of Wisconsin—Stevens Point and a historian of Midwestern history, specifically political organizing, activism, politics in the 1980s. He's working on a book about the Progressive Populists in the Upper Midwest in the 1980s and 1990s. This movement is perhaps best known by way of senators like Tom Harkin, Russ Feingold, and Paul Wellstone, but it came about through the on-the-ground work of countless organizers and activists. We discuss the difference between fight and out-organizing your political enemies, what it means to be a “progressive populist,” what it took to build political power, a rumpled professor who became a beloved senator, and the time the entire South Dakota legislature flew to Washington, D.C.

While very active throughout her entire lifetime, she struggled with weight gain in college, despite following conventional nutrition recommendations and exercising extensively. It took many years to figure out why she was so much bigger then, but the truth revealed itself when Shana discovered hormonal connections between weight gain, and eventually growing sick and fat. Shana has worked in the medical nutrition therapy field for 20 years. Like most dietitians, she recommended strategies to her clients for much of her career that failed them long-term, with little sustainable weight loss. This proved to be frustrating to both practitioner and client. Armed with new knowledge, an open mind, and simple healing concepts, she developed a 5- Step lifestyle improvement program for her clients, resulting in immediate and sustained success. Determined to share correct and effective concepts with as many as she could reach, she started writing. Shana now serves those wanting to learn her teachings with books, digital products, personalized virtual visits, group coaching, Facebook support groups, the Fast To Heal Stories podcast, and her popular 28-Day Finding Nutritional PEACE Group Challenges, which run every season. When she is able, she loves reading, running, traveling, sitting in the sunshine, walking with friends, and cheering her children on in whatever they are pursuing. In this episode, Shana opens the show by talking about her son's ulcerative colitis diagnosis. After months of symptoms, the doctors told Shana to prepare to remove her son's colon. Luckily, Shana sought help outside of the conventional medical system and healed her son without removing his organs. Then, Shana speaks about when she questioned her traditional training as a dietician. After getting sick, Shana started to heal herself by dialing back carbs, increasing healthy fats, and eating more protein. Tune in as we chat all about her new book, Fast To Heal: A 5-Step Guide to Achieving Nutritional PEACE and Reversing Insulin Resistance. After weeks, he still had diarrhea. So, they went and got testing, but nothing was coming back. Three months after he started having symptoms, he had a colonoscopy done, and he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. He had lost a bunch of weight and couldn't keep up with sports at the age of eleven. Later, the doctor said Shana needed to get ready to take his colon out. However, Shana found experts outside of the conventional medicine that helped heal her son. [13:30] Why Shana Started To Question Her Dietician Training Shana was a dietician for ten years before she started questioning things. She told people to eat low fat, mostly plants and whole grains. Ten years in, Shana's clients weren't getting any better. After having three children, Shana started to develop her own health problems. Shana had four or five canker sores in her mouth, bloating, and a lack of energy. She knew something in her diet had to be the problem. It took a long time to figure out what was wrong. Shana started fasting, dialing back carbs, and increasing fats. After a few months, Shana was sleeping better, her bloating went away, and her canker sores vanished. [23:25] The Lessons That Shana Talks About In Her Book, Fast To Heal Get Fast To Heal: A 5-Step Guide to Achieving Nutritional PEACE and Reversing Insulin Resistance: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0874JXVP7/benazadi-20 P stands for Prepare. Prepare your body for fasting. Get the junk out of your system as much as possible. Eat more whole foods and get your carbohydrates down so your body can adapt to ketones. E stands for Extend Your Fast. Stop eating after dinner. Figure out your trigger and remove it. Start pushing your first meal back in the morning. If you like eating in the morning, close your window sooner at night. A stands for Alter Nutrition As Needed. Women always need to increase their protein. When you're not eating protein and natural fats, then you're going to be ill and hungry. Also, it's time to ditch the seed oils. C stands for Clean, Challenge, and Change Make sure that your fast is clean and you're not stimulating insulin. Challenge days work well for people who have been sick for a long time; pick one day where you will do a twenty-four-hour fast. If you have severe insulin resistance, extended fasts can help you heal. E stands for Ease Your Mind. If you don't sleep and have stress, then your hormones will be out of whack. Stress leads to binge eating and not feeling well. It's a vicious cycle, so you need to get your sleep and stress dialed in. AND MUCH MORE!
