Some of us stick to tradition when it comes to music this time of year. If we had a Bing Crosby or a Kenny and Dolly album in our home, those are the songs of Christmas for us. But it's always refreshing when someone pulls out a tune or two that is a bit of a surprise. Since about 2003, Allison Crowe has been doing Tidings concerts nearly every December. They're a mix of holiday favorites with some originals, along with some covers.

"The Weir," by Irish playwright Conor McPherson is on stage this weekend in Corner Brook. Bernice was told the show has ALL the elements that will draw theatregoers, make them laugh -- and possibly break their hearts. Mark Bradbury, artistic director of Hard Ticket Theatre in Corner Brook, has wanted to bring the play to the stage for a very long time. He's playing the role of Finbar. Allison Crowe plays the role of Valerie.

When one door closes,...well, you know how the saying goes. And the two people with me in studio live by it. A couple of weeks ago, Theatre Newfoundland Labrador concluded its youth theatre program in Corner Brook. Now, Adam Brake and Allison Crowe have opened a door on a whole new endeavor for young and old alike. It's called "Open Door Theatre."

Imagine having a night out on the town that included having a blast at a local nightclub and visiting two house parties. That sounds like a great night to many people. Unfortunately for one young 21-year-old indigenous woman that kind of night would wind up being the last known night in her young life. She would leaver her parents home around 11pm in Nanaimo BC and she would sadly never be seen by them again. I fit in well here, in fact: despite my complaining about the cold and snow, I actually thrive here.   Well, maybe “thrive” isn’t the right word, but I do feel that I “need” to be here, and maybe that’s enough.     This is “New” England, but it’s not just a state in the Unite, it’s a state of mind.   I am a New England runner. Qualche giorno fa ho partecipato ad una giornata sul tema dell'adozione, vista dalla parte dei professionisti del settore. Tra gli elementi emersi, le difficolta' che a volte incontrano i figli adottivi, ed i genitori adottivi. Ma l'origine del problema sta proprio nell'adozione? Oppure sono le persone a fare la differenza? Se davvero cerchiamo risposte, dovremmo allora ampliare l'orizzonte. Parlare di genitori e figli tout court. There’s something special that marks an elite athlete as a true running legend.  It’s more than just their athletic appearance, their healthy bodies and the way they carry themselves when they enter a room.
