So what is it about Coach Debs, that makes her unique as a heartbreak coach? Well, I'm a wife, mom, certified life coach, and heartbreak healer. I am the Founder of Inner Perspective Coaching. In my experience as a Life Coach, I connect with clients on a heart-to-heart level, enabling them to gain clarity, purpose, and renewed self-confidence, navigate life after breakups, divorce, and rediscover their true essence. After earning my certification in March 2019 from Coach Training Alliance, a global coach training organization backed by the international coach federation, I utilized my experience, knowledge, and training to develop a unique and effective coaching method that empowers individuals to embrace change and turn pain into pearls for personal development. As a divorcee, I thought I learned everything I needed to know about relationships from my 17 year marriage. But I ended up loving a man who could not fully love, commit, or value me because he lacked those things within himself. Carrying the load I thought…it must be me. Obsessed with asking myself, “what's wrong with me?” I crushed my confidence, created trust issues, and became emotionally disconnected. This breakup was painful, happening just two years after losing my twenty-year-old son in a car accident. It felt like I was healing two wounds at the same time. I needed help. My internal environment at the time was burning down.

I think every coach knows that before they work with a client there are two crucial things to do. One is to receive the client's payment and the other is to help the onboarding process with a smart intake packet. That's when the co-creative relationship becomes official and professional. Find the full transcript for this episode with helpful links at prosperouscoach.com/194When I first started as a coach, I didn't have a smart intake packet. I had copied another coach's documents with their permission, and honestly, with so many other things to learn, I didn't give it a lot of thought. That way until I was asked to develop certification curriculum for Coach Training Alliance and I buttoned up a lot of my practices. CTA still uses my finessed intake packet and the curriculum 21+ years later and I'm honored.By the way, that's one of the benefits of stepping into a leadership role — you rise to the occasion. Think of your coaching business as a leadership role and you'll be inspired to higher degrees of professionalism. It's for you as much as it is for your clients. So why is an intake packet important? I've never been more certain of an intake packet's value for the client than after hiring a social media coach who had a minimal onboarding process. She asked me to set up our first session and that was all the due diligence there was — no questions about me, my background or anything more than getting my payment.I ended up asking for a prorated refund after one session because we weren't a good fit and she wasn't modeling good coaching practices in her services. I did not feel seen or safe, which are critical in coaching. Onboard Your Coaching Client with CareA critical benefit of a good intake packet is to help your client onboard smoothly into your services. Show them you care about them and want to understand who they are. It helps them feel seen and safe. Episode 186 is called 4 Ways to Help Your Coaching Clients Feel Safe. It's a good listen, if you haven't heard it already.People feel safe when you take time to understand them. But that's not the only value of a smart intake packet. Here are 4 other reasons to show you care with your intake packet:· Gather important data about the client· Convey policies and procedures· Make clear your role and their role· Learn what makes them tickLet's go through each of these …Get a Profile of Your Coaching ClientOne of the 3 documents in my intake packet is a simple Word document with fillable spaces to capture their:· Name· Email address· Phone number· Time zone· Physical address· Website· When they finished coach training (which is germane to my niche)· Their partner's and and kids names & ages, if any· Their current employment & title· Plus, a catchall question – What else would you like to share with me at this time?Read here for the specifics of what goes into the agreement and the other 3 essential parts.
Rhonda Hess: Hey coaches, I've got something special for you today. Find the full transcript plus helpful links and specific words to say in coaching sessions at prosperouscoach.com/193. Also, there's a link to a free downloadable infographic that you'll want to click to on that page.I don't know if you got to listen to the previous session that I did with my good friend and amazing coach, Laurie Cameron, where we talked about Powerful Questions (Episode 139 – The Art of Crafting Powerful Coaching Questions.) If you have not heard that one, go get it because it's really, really good. And this one's also going to be really, really good. We are going to talk about something different having to do with coaching skills today. So let me first introduce you to Laurie. The world that Laurie Cameron wants to leave our children is one where we feel safe, valued, and connected because that's when we can accomplish meaningful work together. Her part in creating that world is to help people communicate with kindness, respect, and compassion. Laurie's been coaching and training since 1998 and her company WAKE UP! Enterprises helps leaders integrate the coaching mindset and heart into their everyday communications in order to build a sustainable coaching culture from the inside out. She's also a senior faculty member of one of the oldest coach training organizations in the world — that's Coach Training Alliance, and she has trained over 1200 coaches through CTA. Laurie also works with coaches applying for their ACC credential with the ICF to get their 10 hours of mentor coaching. Visit her at wakeupenterprises.com or ACCmentorcoach.com. Laurie, thank you so much for doing this again, and it's always so fun to collaborate with you on anything.Laurie Cameron: Oh, I feel exactly the same. I'm really thrilled. Thank you so much for inviting me.Rhonda Hess: My absolute pleasure. And so, we are going to talk today about aimless coaching sessions. Everybody's had one, probably everybody's experienced one. We are going to take a look at it from all angles and uncover the best way to recover from an aimless coaching session as a coach. So first let's just start with this. I thought about this: bWhat do you think, Laurie, is a single word that describes the best coaching sessions with clients?Laurie Cameron: I think FOCUSED is a good word — because you know … there's purpose, there's meaning, there's safety — all of that. And yet, if I were to pick one, it would be focused — not just focused on what the client wants to take away, but really focused on the client. Fully focused on the client for the entire session because coaching is client-driven.Rhonda Hess: It also means that it has an aim. So I really like that one. I think that's really good. What does an aimless coaching session look and feel like to the coach?Laurie Cameron: In the classes that I teach at Coach Training Alliance, we come up with this a lot — an aimless session. I have an analogy for that, Rhonda, and it's kind of like watching a dog, chase a family of squirrels.Read the tips and short scripts Laurie has about avoiding and fixing aimless coaching sessions.

In a Discovery Call with a coach today, (who did hire me by the way) I asked what inspired her to reach out to me. She honored me with a list of things that made me feel good. They were also confirmations that my customer journey is working.Helping YOU create that customer journey for your audience is what this podcast is about. She told me that a quote on the Coach Training Accelerator, curriculum I co-wrote for Coach Training Alliance made an impression on her. It was something along the lines of “Fear lives in your head. Courage lives in your heart.”I didn't remember I said that, but when you write as much as I do over decades it's a strange echo from another time to hear my own thought forms come back to me.So yes, courage is where it's at when it comes to launching, running and growing your coaching business. But fear will hover around. You see our big brains are designed to be wary of things and they get caught up in a loop of worry and fear. But your heart has the wisdom to realize that fear is usually just a flimsy emotion … like cardboard. Fear is not usually a true obstacle. It's most often a mental block that has little substance.Today's episode is all about the F word. Find the full transcript at prosperouscoach.com/166Fear is a powerful force. It can move you toward safety and it can keep you from your destiny. The feeling is no fun. But, like all feelings, it holds the possibility of transformation. On any given day, I feel some amount of fear. What about you? Fear could show up while I'm listening to the news. Or, if I'm in a car and I or someone else makes a mistake in judgment. It could be a deep concern that rises up about someone I love or about my body.During my work, it could be a moment of uncertainty, like when I'm trying to learn something new or take a big step that I've rarely or never taken.Fear is a fairly present emotion for human beings. But most of the time fear doesn't stop you. It might give you pause, but it doesn't ultimately keep you from moving forward in your life.Fear is not something we want to turn off or stop feeling. It's not even about becoming numb to it. It's more about having a healthy process with it.All emotions deserve to be felt, acknowledged and then released, which is a key to good life, right? Fear is an ancient and primal emotion. It can be a vital response for survival.A Habitual Response to OpportunityBut fear can also become a habitual response to opportunity and this is the big point I want to make to you today. If you let it, fear will block your growth.Go here to read the best cure for fear.

This is a replay of one of the most popular Prosperous Coach Episodes.I have the pleasure of introducing you to Laurie Cameron of WAKE UP Enterprises. Laurie is literally the best coach I know. She is also the best coach trainer I know.In 2001 I co-created curriculum for Coach Training Alliance and I designed their certified coach program, I was their first trainer. Then I brought Laurie in. She surpassed me significantly and she is their Senior Mentor Coach now. I first met Laurie 20 years or so ago at the Denver chapter of the International Coach Federation and we became fast friends. We were both on the board there. Beyond that, Laurie and I have been accountability partners for each other and doing a little co-coaching now and then. Something every coach needs. LAURIE CAMERON: I am really excited and thank you for all those kind words that made my week as well. So I'm really thrilled to be here. The Most Powerful Coaching SkillRhonda: Laurie, I'm going to ask you some questions. I hope they're powerful questions because that's the topic that we're bringing today. So I wanted to start with … What is your favorite coaching skill, Laurie, and why?LAURIE CAMERON: I would like to ask you a question in return. Complete this sentence: If you want better answers, you …?RHONDA: … have to ask the right questions.LAURIE CAMERON: Close. See when I do full day coach training workshops with leaders and managers and when I train coaches through coach training Alliance, that's the common answer. A better answer is you have to craft better questions. RHONDA: Nice distinction. LAURIE CAMERON: Thank you. Questions are amazing and they're even more amazing and more powerful when you are adept at putting words together in a way that draw somebody's wisdom out and draw out something new and, and send them deep. That's why I love powerful questions and learning how to craft them.Take Your Time To Formulate Powerful QuestionsRHONDA: That's great. I wanted to notice something. You know, you asked me that question and I jumped with my answer. You're talking about crafting and crafting takes some time. How can a coach that's in the middle of a coaching session take the time to craft a question? LAURIE CAMERON: Well, it's about taking the time to do that actually. And one of the challenges that I've noticed that newer coaches have about asking questions is they don't take the time to craft one before they start asking it. So as soon as the kernel of a question pops into their head, it's coming out their mouth, they are revising it, editing it out loud, and it actually turns into this long thing that the client just loses track of. Learning how to craft a powerful question is more about taking the time, pausing, being comfortable with the silence — which is also a challenge for a lot of coaches — and crafting internally before they open their mouth.LAURIE CAMERON: That's great to know and it reminds me that a lot of times when I'm working with my own clients. I have something to say, could be a question or it could be anything, but if I don't quite have it ready yet, I'll just buy myself some time. I'll just say: Give me a second, I'm thinking. And it feels worse if you beat yourself up for feeling that imposter syndrome. You won't likely feel confident when you're new at something so don't try for confidence right away. · Begin with courage to learn and do the new and difficult things. · Follow courage with allowing yourself to be new and make mistakes. · Soon, confidence rises. And you don't even notice the shift because you've moved on.There are many milestones to pass and thresholds to cross as a new coach.· Your first time to try a coaching model· Your first coaching session outside class· You complete coach training, perhaps certify· Your first paying client is super exciting. And certainly, every successive paying client feels great too.But what about while you're getting the word out, building your network, learning marketing techniques and longing for those results? What will help you grow confidence before the money starts reliably flowing in?Create Legitimizing Moments for Yourself“Legitimizing moments” is a phrase that my colleague, Will Craig, used to say. He was founder of Coach Training Alliance and the co-author of the coach-training curriculum I helped to create. He often has a wonderful way of saying things. Thanks Will!“Legitimize” is a legal term that means to make official, give approval or sanction. And the root of that word is the same as sanctify or sanctuary. Ahhh … sanctuary. What will help you feel official even before you earn well as a coach? Create legitimizing moments for yourself.2 Smart Marketing Ideas for CoachesThis is where the conversation with my client comes in. We were discussing getting the word out about his services and ways to leverage his marketing efforts. I suggested two things that most coaches won't think of:Ask 20 friends, family members, colleagues or past clients to help your star rise by regularly commenting on and sharing your social posts, especially when you're announcing a new blog, podcast episode of video. You can give them a free coaching session or take them for a meal or repay them in kind. This helps you prime the pump and create social proof, much like a busker puts her own dollars in the hat. People who don't know you will be more likely to engage and that inspires more engagement. To learn the 2nd smart marketing idea and read more Show Notes click here.

I have something really special for you today's episode, which is about powerful coaching questions and is a part of a new series on Coaching Skills. There's a free download that you find at prosperouscoach.com/78First, I want to share something personal with you. I have been so buoyed up by wonderful reviews lately. So I want to give a shout out to Gemma who said recently to me:“I'm sending a heap of gratitude to you, Rhonda, your generous podcast has helped me identify my platform and program. Also, I know that I'm not alone in this. You've helped so many coaches. Thank you for cutting through the noise.”That made my week. So I'm grateful to you, Gemma, for taking the time to write that review for me on iTunes. So let's roll with today's episode. I have the pleasure of introducing you to Laurie Cameron of WAKE UP Enterprises. Something every coach needs.LAURIE CAMERON: I am really excited and thank you for all those kind words that made my week as well. So I’m really thrilled to be here. You’re talking about crafting and crafting takes some time. Learning how to craft a powerful question is more about taking the time, pausing, being comfortable with the silence — which is also a challenge for a lot of coaches — and crafting internally before they open their mouth.READ MORE IN THE SHOW NOTES AT: prosperouscoach.com/78

In the last episode I talked about high payoff actions you can take in your business. High payoff actions are the ones that get you the results you want. Those actions are always strategic – based on a strategy that you’ve thought through. In this episode, which is the 2nd in the series called Coaching Business Checkup, I’m going to talk about the top ways for new coaches to be strategic in their business.Show notes for this episode can be found at prosperouscoach.com/63No Strategy is a Slow StrategyI was thinking about this recently … when did I begin to be more strategic in my coaching business? It began when I targeted a viable audience and figured out what they want so much they’d invest in my help to reach that goal. That was my first point of strategy. That’s #1 because if you don’t target a viable audience no other strategy after that will work.Embarrassingly, it was only after my 2nd coaching website and after my 3rd year in business for myself that I began to think more strategically. And wow how it paid off. And how I wished I’d been more strategic from the beginning, but I didn’t know how. Before that I just flew by the seat of my pants, which is a strange saying but we all know what it means.Looking back I have to laugh at myself a bit, thinking that I could have a successful coaching business without strategy. But I’ve always been someone to jumps in headfirst. Now when I jump in head first, I’m actually using my head by being strategic. But it’s not fair to compare what I know now to what I knew then.I was blessed in so many ways — still am — by serendipity. So many angels and surprises came my way in the form of opportunities and wonderful human beings that gave me a helping hand.I would never have leaped to the idea of helping coaches, first with their coaching niches, had I not been tapped to be a trainer in a coach training company. And after a year, I was asked to rewrite the curriculum of that organization called Coach Training Alliance. They’ve been using that curriculum for 2 decades. It’s a wonderful coach training school.Because the owner gave me an opportunity, I learned that I was good at taking complex concepts and tasks and breaking them into step-by-step processes. My teach archetype was born then. And coaches started hiring me.Having no strategy is a kind of a strategy. If you have time to burn or if going about things totally organically is a value of yours, no strategy can work in the long run.Smart Strategy Means Faster Results In Your Coaching BusinessBut when it comes to attracting enough clients who pay well, stay longer and refer more ideal clients, having a strategy now, when it’s early days in your coaching business, is the way to get there faster. For most of us, getting there faster is critical. Most of my clients need to earn and earn well. Their coaching business is in lieu of getting another J.O.B.So strategy is the way to go.If you’ve not learned to be strategic yet, that’s okay. And today is the day to start.10 Critical Strategies For New-ish Coaches You may be wondering why am I talking about strategy so much in a series called Coaching Business Checkup?Well, here’s the deal, if things aren’t going well for you in your coaching business it always boils down to a lack of strategy. And there are several areas to look at.For now I’m going to list them. Then in following episodes I’ll go into more detail about these ways to strategize your f

This is the first episode in the new series called Money Mastery. In this series I’ll dig into pricing strategies, revenue planning and liberally sprinkle in money mindsets and prosperity thinking, which make all the difference in attracting coaching clients who pay well.Show Notes for this episode can be found at prosperouscoach.com/53After all, success is part mindset, part strategy and part right action.First for a bit of gratitude … Prosperous Coach Podcast has just hit 20,000 downloads and that’s because you have been generously passing forward this podcast to your coach friends and colleagues. Thank you!Every day I hear from another coach how much this podcast has meant to them and I feel so grateful. That fills me with joy.Speaking of gratitude … are YOU feeling it?I ask because I’ve seen a direct relationship to gratitude and financial success for coaches. For one thing, gratitude is attractive in the most literal sense of the word. And it goes both ways. When you’re grateful, you feel better. When you feel better, other people feel better. It’s a beautiful circle.Attitude and PracticeYou’ve heard of an attitude of gratitude.Gratitude isn’t just an attitude. It’s a practice that goes beyond counting your blessings. Although, naming what you’re grateful for is the centerpiece of prosperity. Not many people know this, I started my coaching business as a spiritual coach and prosperity building was my focus. No wonder I branded my company Prosperous Coach.I ended up helping coaches choose a profitable niche and launch their business with confidence because I found myself surrounded by coaches who wanted my help to get their business models set up powerfully.Well, how did that happen? The usual way. Angels and Surprises. In my 3rd year of coaching I was on the board of the Denver Coach Federation and the President at that time, Will Craig, was starting a coach training company called Coach Training Alliance. He invited me to be a trainer and after a year asked me to help him rewrite the curriculum and design a Certified Coach Program.Talk about gratitude. If not for Will, the opportunity he gave me, and his trust in me I’m not sure I’d still be in business. Will, if you’re listening, I love you, man. Our partnership has taken me places and brought me in connection with more wonderful people than I ever dreamed possible. I mean who knew? What’s wonderful is Coach Training Alliance is still going strong 18 years later. They’re still using my curriculum and certification program. And many of the trainers are the original bunch of the best coaches I know.Do you ever wonder what opportunities might be around the corner for you? What angels — real people — will show up and give you grace?Anyone you meet could be that person for you. Any opportunity you have could be one that catapults you to a better place. In fact, this happens every day.So, one powerful gratitude practice is to be grateful for ALL of your connections. Even the ones that don’t feel great. Here are some other gratitude practices you might not of thought of as gratitude or prosperity building: Share the Good StuffIf you get value out of something share it with others. Pass it forward.I’ve noticed something that worries me in the coaching community. Sometimes coaches get competitive. They are out there only for themselves and their clients. They build their business then put their head down in isolation and strive and strive. They write their blogs, put out their posts but that’s it.That makes for a lonely business. But it’s also shut down the flow of prosperity. This is how gratitude ties into integrity. What Comes Around Goes AroundThat can work both ways, you k

EPISODE OVERVIEW Rhonda discusses the importance of having practitioners that are knowledgeable about the trait of being Highly Sensitive, and she shares an experience she had with an insensitive doctor and how she handled it. HIGHLIGHTS Rhonda shares about realizing she was a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) after reading Elaine Aron’s The Highly Sensitive Person We talk about the analogy of HSPs and orchids--and the limitations of this analogy We share our experience with online facebook groups and how we came to meet each other through a facebook group I started for podcasters Sometimes, as HSPs, we don’t realize the positive impact that we are having on the lives of others simply by showing up I share some of the ways that podcasting has been transformational that I did not expect Rhonda describes the various triggers that she has recognized as an HSP; how she navigates with this knowledge, and the emotional impact it sometimes has We discuss epigenetics and how emotional triggers can have generational echos Rhonda recalls early childhood memories of feeling ashamed or outcasted due to her highly sensitive traits We share our experiences as HSPs, with prescription medications and how HSPs tend to be more sensitive to medication than non-HSPs Rhonda talks about the dichotomy of growing up shy and self-conscious while being a courageous and bold person, starting her own business Rhonda explains her ability to somatically feel what is happening with her clients Rhonda recounts an interaction she had with an insensitive doctor, how she responded, and the result of their exchange BIO Rhonda Hess is an international business coach and founder of Prosperous Coach since 2006. Her clients say she has a superpower for helping coaches choose a smart niche and launch their business with confidence. In 2001, she designed the certification program for Coach Training Alliance. After training 500 coaches herself she turned her focus to helping coaches with the marketing side because it doesn't matter how great a coach you are if no one knows about you. After 8 years of award-winning blogging, last year Rhonda started Prosperous Coach Podcast to help more coaches earn more and market less. It's so fun! PODCAST HOST Patricia Young is a Life Coach in California. Patricia works with Highly Sensitive People (HSPs) helping them understand their HSPness, and turning their perceived shortcomings into superpowers. Patricia is passionate about providing education to help HSPs and non-HSPs understand and truly appreciate all the gifts we have to offer. Patricia works globally online with HSPS providing coaching. We meet over a private platform (similar to Skype), and you can have coaching from the privacy of your own home—when the kids are at school or are napping; from work; in your pajamas, or when you just can’t face sitting in traffic or going out. This episode is the second ON AIR COACHING session where you can listen in while I work with a coach to narrow her target audience and uncover clues about her coaching niche.Cynthia Brown recently graduated from Coach Training Alliance where she met one of my clients, Audra, who referred her to me. That and my podcast encouraged Cynthia to apply for On Air Coaching with me.Let me introduce Cynthia Brown ...Cynthia is the founder of New Lane Coaching. One of her main concerns is that women business owners often sell themselves short. She wants women to know that their small businesses can become more than they originally dreamed. All it takes is one small step each day.Cynthia is currently involved in Toastmasters International to learn to speak at women business own associations. She's a certified coach and member of the International Coach Federation. While Cynthia has initially targeted a broad audience — women small business owners, she wasn't certain about it, partially because she had another audience that was tugging on her heart strings:high school students to help them transition to college or a careerWhen she thinks about that audience she feels sheer excitement! But she had big doubts about this choice for a coaching niche. We took some time to investigate whether that audience would be viable. In other words, would it pay off in income and clients. We ultimately agreed that audience wouldn't sustain her financially.Parents might invest in her help if her goal was to help those students get into a good college or university. But they might not be as excited about investing much to have Cynthia help their kids choose a vocation. In our conversation, Cynthia became certain that it was best to only serve the audience of high school kids as a "side gig" where she'll offer support for lower fees as she has time and inclination.Cynthia wants to have a thriving business and not be held up by struggling to convince parents. We talked about the old "follow your passion" adage and how important it is to look for an audience and niche that both feels joyful and will pay off.Sometimes that means going with your second choice unless earning a living isn't important to you.Next, I prompted Cynthia to share a personal story about a previous employee she helped to formulate his career path. Years later he wrote her a thank you note for how her support influenced him.It was a peak experience for Cynthia that touched her deeply. And I wanted to earmark that story as a potential clue for her niche. Then, we shifted to talking about the broad audience that she'd set for herself in New Lane Coaching, working with women small business owners.Cynthia felt it was too broad. And so did I.First, we looked at whether it was important to her to limit to women.Cynthia decided that, no, it's not..Many coaches are inclined to specify women as a way to narrow their niche. That's a good idea if it really matters to you, the coach. If you feel more of a solid affinity with one gender or another, go ahead and narrow that way. That alone won't help you stand out though. But there are other ways to narrow an audience that will help you more than simply narrowing by gender. And narrowing is a good idea if you're targeting business owners or entrepreneurs because it's a broad audience that is so highly marketed to, it's critical to stand out in some way.Isolate a particular type of business owner, such as an industry or a professional position.And/or add an adjective that helps to narrow. For example, when Marshall Stern, a coach I interviewed in Episode 11, narrowed by adding the word "driven". A personality based adjective can help because not all business owners will self-select to that group. Still that may not be enough to help you stand out in the cr

Her passion is helping transform leaders and their relationships, create drama-free work zones, enhance customer loyalty, and improve profits. How she fell into her own business: (4:18) Kirsten said that the catalyst to start her own business was actually being in an abusive marriage. Ten years ago, she worked in the field of Human Resource when she was a stay at home mom for a period and her marriage became more and more abusive. She did some soul-searching and come up with a plan to get out, and to take care of herself and her two boys. Trying to restore order in her marriage life: (5:55) Kirsten Ross really tried everything, and nothing worked. After she got a call from each of her two sons’ teachers telling her that they were not happy in school, she was 100% certain that she needed to make a decision and start making a plan to end her marriage and leave. Making the move to get out: (8:40) Kirsten stayed 100% focused on her business as the catalyst to power the transition. Kirsten got trusted advisers to help create a plan for her business and then she launched her business. And also decided that once she got out, she would take her two boys and create a home that’s filled with laughter. Her full focus was directed to what was in her control for herself and the two kids. Best Advice: 40:29 “Speak your mind even if your voice shakes; speak up and it know what you want.” Links: www.defeatthedrama.com Defeat the Drama: The Podcast Defeat the Drama: The Book
