I had my  one of favorite nights out on my entire 3 month trip in London at this very special bar and I want to share it with you. I also will cover why TV shows like Monty Python, Fish Called Wanda and I May Destroy You gave me the "Paris Effect" of London. Episode Notes JetBlue Airways announced on Tuesday it's launching service to Amsterdam this summer as part of its European expansion. But is the company disrupting the transatlantic market as it claims? That's not really the case, reports Edward Russell, editor of Airline Weekly, Skift brand.  JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes argued that travelers on the New York-Amsterdam route had long been subject to expensive fares and mediocre service provided by other U.S. airlines. He added JetBlue would bring down fares and improve the experience for customers flying between the U.S. and Amsterdam. However, Russell writes JetBlue really hasn't disrupted the transatlantic market, or more specifically the New York-London one. Overall average fares, including all service classes, jumped 3 percent in the third quarter of 2022 compared to pre-Covid levels. The third quarter is traditionally the busiest for flights between North America and Europe. In addition, Russell notes most travelers would be hard-pressed to distinguish a business class flight on British Airways or Delta Air Lines, or one on JetBlue. Next, several news outlets reported on Tuesday that Airbnb had acquired Scotland-based property portal Letting Cloud. However, the short-term rental giant denied it was making the move, writes Short-Term Rental Srividya Kalyanaram.  An Airbnb spokesperson said it's never had discussions or any sort of a relationship with Letting Cloud. Letting Cloud produces technology that verifies short-term rental licenses and permits held by landlords.  Finally, we profile Elizabeth Stenne, an artist who has produced work for some of the world's prestigious hotels, in an At Your Service story, Skift's monthly feature on travel's coolest jobs.  Corporate Travel Editor Matthew Parsons reports that Stenne has created art for the likes of Paris' George V hotel and the Sofitel New York out of a rustic French studio. Despite her reputation for making art for opulent properties, she said her works can be any style, having to navigate the fine line between art and decoration. Stenne admitted that she largely works in the shadows, admitting that she paints without knowing where the finished product will be displayed.

Most of us think of polio as a disease consigned to the past, or isolated outbreaks in developing countries. But now New York has a confirmed adult case of polio, along with virus fragments detected in sewage outside the nations largest city. In London about 900,000 children in London are to be offered a booster dose of a polio vaccine after virus fragments were found in sewage, however, no active cases have been reported. Worryingly, routine childhood immunisations dropped dramatically globally during the Covid-19 pandemic. Immunisation coverage at six months of age has fallen in New Zealand from a high of around 80 percent in early 2020 to 67 percent by June 2022, and as low as 45 percent for Māori. World Health Organistion spokesperson for polio eradication Oliver Rosenbauer spoke to Guyon Espiner.

In episode #32 of The Hormone P.U.Z.Z.L.E Podcast, our guest Ana Gonzalez Herrera talks about Endometriosis, Hormones and Fertility . More about Ana: Ana Gonzalez Herrera's endometriosis story is like that of so many corporate executives with the disease. She once gave a presentation in a male-dominated boardroom while masking her excruciating pain. Another time in Starbucks she doubled over in pain and fainted, then woke up and drove straight to work. Pretending to be okay to not appear weak was her norm. But no longer. After being diagnosed with stage IV endo and having five surgeries over the course of roughly a decade, the last of which included a full hysterectomy and colon resection, Herrera says her pain has become her mission – Hormone University. A platform completely self-funded to educate women experiencing hormonal imbalances and to advocate for social justice in women's health issues. The native of Spain and resident of New York & London has also been named to EndoFound's advisory board of patients and advocates. “I think she will be an excellent addition to the advisory board with her vast marketing experience and her personal experience with endo,” said Margaret Cianci, EndoFound's executive director. Herrera, who has lived all over the world, has a bachelor's degree with honors from Les Roches Hotel Management School and has taken several executive management courses at the London School of Economics and Cornell University. She has more than 15 years of high-level global marketing & commercial experience, particularly in the wellness and beauty industries. In 2017, Herrera founded AG CASA, a strategy and marketing agency based in New York City. Shout out to PODCORN for sponsoring today's episode of People of Purpose!   For the better part of the last decade, Rich has been immersed in the multitude of yoga teachings across many lineages as well as a deep study of the various shamanic healing arts in South America. He tends to redirect questions about what style of yoga he teaches, as he has thoroughly enjoyed Hatha, Ashtanga, Iyengar, and various of the other cleverly thought out styles and philosophies of yoga and movement medicines. Rich feels there is wisdom to be gleaned from all of these art forms, and incorporate aspects of all of them into my offerings for my students. The path towards union is as varied as the faces of those that practice. He has been blessed to be both student and teacher across many parts of the world, from bustling cities like New York London, Barcelona, and the Florida Keys, to deep in the rainforest of Peru, Key West, Thailand, Bali, and in the presence of masters in India. The amazing list of countries he has had the honor to be of service in is ever-growing. Rich's path to the self has included deep immersion and study in the shamanic arts, studying with individuals and tribes alike, including the people of the Shipibo, Matses, and Yawanawa. Many of the lessons he has learned regarding our truest nature and the workings of our energetic body are interwoven into my teaching style. Digital Disruptors
What’s happening with Insydo – UAE’s freshest startup

Digital Disruptors

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 5, 2017 24:15

With so many startup’s emerging from the UAE, it’s no easy affair to pick something that stands out. Insydo.com has done just that, and we were here to interview the digital disruptor behind it. In case you’re interested to make best of the local startup scene, Tenaz Disadji has a few takeaways to benefit from. Click through to read more. Insydo is a platform that helps Dubai residents make decisions easier. The website recently won for Best Design & User Experience at the Seamless Awards 2017. The project launched with a campaign aimed to differentiate itself. This was entitled ‘Save Steve’s Job’. Instead of focusing on what Insydo can do for the people, they decided to focus more on the team & the character behind the brand identity. The campaign was effective in terms of leaving online users curious to know more. The challenge after brand awareness was ‘how to get people to understand the brand’ + sell the benefits. Being in the UAE, one of the biggest challenges that startups face is recruitment. In case you’re looking for the best talent, shifting a person’s dream (to work in cities such as New York & London) all the way to Dubai… can be a challenge. “It is imperative to form a team that goes in line with the company's vision.” Although it might be a bit risky, the key is to bring in talent from anywhere across the globe. Never the less, Dubai has gained a name for itself so the city does attract. The website generates curated content that entices users to spend an ample amount of time in simple exploration. Although the team does have alternative content-based performance metrics (events, page views etc.), fortunately, their mission is not to make users buy anything. The goals: Make decision simpler Get to the right place Create the ‘best experience’ Unlike other listing websites, Insydo stands out by focusing on saving people’s time through curation. They consider different criteria (locations, price points etc.) to ensure their content is note-worthy. Their USP: Every business (listed) on Insydo is vetted physically & independently, way before businesses know who they are. Startup life is a learning curve. You cannot get to the fruit without making a few mistakes. One must be able to see the direction in which the company is heading. Although it’s only a while later that one realizes decisions that could have been better taken, what’s more important is how quickly one must react to mistakes. These are general issues in startup life anyway. Companies looking to hire talent from abroad must ensure that the UAE (or any other place) is not simply a transit place for the candidate. One of the biggest wins for Insydo was ‘finding its two founders’. These are individuals willing to share the possibilities, the excitement and the risk. i.e. People to share the experience with. “I would never recommend starting up a company by yourself.” In case you’re planning to launch a startup business, here are 3 tips: Create & focus on a business plan – You may have an awesome idea. And although your starting with assumptions, you have to start with something. This plan is used to build out something solid. For Insydo, ‘The business plan’ helped save a lot of time. Try not to build a tech team (or tech specs) while you havent yet focused on creating a minimum viable product - Once you’re ready, never understand what you need to achieve without testing it. Get it into the market, see people’s reactions and start tweaking. Simply Google to buy website template samples for cheap, test them and find out which works best. Get a feel and then begin investing. Find the right people to match your skill-sets - Think about how much knowledge and experience you have set about for that career. Tenaz had to spend her first six months trying to learn the basics, whereas this could have been better utilized through a resource is critical.
