They describe how collaboration, education, and advocacy can go a long way in improving access to medications and health care. Key Takeaways: Medication Access: Medication access is a complex, systemic issue. The high cost of medication is a significant barrier for many patients, and navigating the health care system to obtain necessary medications can be confusing and overwhelming for many patients. Health Care Providers are Crucial in Improving Medication Access: Health care professionals can play a vital role in advocating for patients and assisting them in obtaining their prescribed medications. Understanding the complexities of medication access can empower health care providers to better support their patients. Patient Advocacy is Essential for Driving Change: Organizations and individuals dedicated to patient advocacy can create significant impact by raising awareness, lobbying for policy changes, and providing support to patients. Sharing personal stories can be a powerful tool for driving change in health care disparities. Collaboration and Education are Key: Partnerships between health care providers, patient advocacy groups, and policymakers are essential for addressing the medication access crisis. Educating patients, health care providers, and the public about medication access issues is crucial for creating lasting change. When people think about the issues related to pharmacy they inevitably think of the opioid epidemic, as portrayed in the Netflix documentary The Pharmacist and the Hulu series Dopesick. But sadly, the problems in pharmacy extend much further and have existed far longer. Corporate chains like CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens have taken over community pharmacy, elbowing out patient-focused independent pharmacies, and forcing a retail sales environment. The chains ratcheted up production for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to a fast-food pace along with adding metrics for upsells and serving times.

The Pharmacy technician, also sometimes known as a pharmaceutical technician, is a health care worker who performs pharmacy related functions, generally working under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or other health professional. Pharmacy technicians work in a variety of locations, usually in community/retail and hospital pharmacies but also sometimes in long-term care facilities, pharmaceutical manufacturers, third-party insurance companies, computer software companies, or in government or teaching. Job duties include dispensing prescription drugs and other medical devices to patients and instructing on their use. Pharmacy Technicians talk to a patient about their medications. They may also perform administrative duties in pharmaceutical practice, such as reviewing prescription requests with doctor's offices and insurance companies to ensure correct medications are provided and payment is received. In recent times, they also speak directly with the patients on the phone to aid in the awareness of taking medications on time.
