Send us a Text Message.Wow, can you believe it's my 100th episode already? Before I dive into the details of this episode, I want to express my gratitude to you, the listeners! You listen from around the world, from Germany, the UK, the Philippines, South America, Australia, New Zealand, and many more, and of course to the many of you in the United States. Thank you for listening, sharing my work, sending emails, commenting, reviewing, rating, and engaging on social media. I do not take your dedication lightly.Next, I'm grateful for my amazing guests. I've talked with nurses, social workers, physicians, educators, and more.  It's been a joy to learn from them as they share their experiences and insights. My podcasting journey started the last year before retirement. I had not been an avid podcast fan until then and found this medium fascinating. A whole new world opened up to me as a listener. I fell in love with some great podcasts, some nursing, some comedy, some educational and some were just wacky, but that's okay because it takes all kinds of people to make the world go round and I consider myself blessed to be one of those people who have contributed to this space. Now, about this 100th episode. A few months ago my brother Chris approached me and said what are you going to do for your 100th episode? He suggested that I have someone interview me. You may remember Chris was my guest for episode three of this podcast. He shared what he does as a nurse researcher and I had a ball interviewing him. There are not many people who have my utmost respect but Chris is one of those people so I turned it around on him and said,  "Why don't you interview me?" This is where it gets funny. He suggested we meet so I could tell him what questions to ask me. I said, "That's not how it works! You've got to come up with your own questions." I told him nothing was off limits, he could ask whatever he wanted. So he and Chat GPT formulated an interview and on an early July morning, we met in my recording closet and had a fun and candid discussion. I hope you love it as much as I've loved bringing this podcast to you. “We need to change the conversation from mental illness to mental wellness,” says Sharon Feldstein, who helped launch a nonprofit called YourMomCares with the goal of creating and supporting programs that better behavioral health in our kids. This group of concerned mothers, whose children are prominent athletes, musicians and actors, is bringing much-needed attention to the crisis in children's behavioral health. Demand for services is far outpacing the resources to support it, and the situation is worsening now that new CDC data reveals there has been a 50% spike in the suicide rate for school-age kids since the year 2000.  On this episode of 20-Minute Health Talk, host Sandra Lindsay, DHSc, MBA, MSN, RN, speaks with Sharon, co-founder and CEO of YourMomCares, along with one of the group's "power moms," Robin Paul, about their mission, the organizations and programs they support and their newest endeavor with Northwell, who has partnered with area schools to expand resources for students in need of behavioral health support. A primary effort — school-based Behavioral Health Centers — is keeping kids out of the emergency room and connecting them with clinicians closer to home.  This is Part 2 of a series addressing the rising rate of child suicide in the U.S. Throughout the month of September, which is National Suicide Prevention Month. In Part 1 (available for listening here), Dr. Lindsay spoke with child behavioral health specialist Vera Feuer, MD, about methods parents can use to discuss mental issues with their children. Resources for families American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry provides education for families including what to expect when you have to go to the emergency department and how to handle suicidality in children.  American Academy of Pediatrics provides education on various topics including mental health.  National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) – has local chapters in each state, which offer a wealth of resources to get connected to treatment, support and education.

How can integrative psychiatry help improve your quality of life? Today, we'll go over the top six things you need to know as a healthcare entrepreneur running your own practice in order to maintain your mental health. In this episode, Dr. Jay Somers, PA-C, DHSc, at https://psychiatry.vegas/ shares:  Being a PA can be a flexible and enjoyable job in which you collaborate with other physician colleagues to advance patient care. And you can still be the sole proprietor of your own practice. Psychiatry is a vital part of health care that helps people with mental health diseases. Chronic diseases can be difficult to manage, even when symptoms are absent. Inflammatory cytokinesis and neurochemicals are important chemicals in our body that keep us healthy. Pain, stress, fear and all this can be caused by inflammatory changes and neurochemistry imbalance. The brain and body are connected, and what happens in the brain affects the body. A troubled stomach can send signals to the brain, just as a brain that is in distress can send signals to the gut. It is all connected. A person's stomach or intestinal distress can be the cause or the product of anxiety, stress, or depression. That's because the brain and the gastrointestinal (GI) system are intimately connected. When you add alcohol into the mix, it gets even more complicated. This week, the ladies talk about the correlation between alcohol, anxiety, stress and shame. Camila, Kim and Catherine also discuss how sobriety allows you to create new neural pathways to replace old patterns of behavior. _____ Camila Smith, LCSW, DHSc, is a licensed psychotherapist, anxiety expert, and Chief Clinical Officer at bekome.
