Easterns are the most widely distributed subspecies of the American wild turkey and primarily are found east of the Mississippi River. They are also the most abundant. In fact, you can find them in 38 states and numerous Canadian provinces. Known for their chestnut-brown tip, strong gobbles and longer beards, these birds draw countless hunters to the turkey woods each spring.  To cover many of the things that make this subspecies special, we welcome guests Spring Legion's Hunter Farrior, NWTF Editor Matt Stewart and the wild turkey doc himself, Dr. Michael Chamberlain.

Have you ever sat in the stillness of an early season morning, as an eastern's gobble echoes through the hardwoods? It's a feeling that never grows old to turkey hunters. We're bringing that experience straight to your ears, sharing the tactics, laughs, and heart-pounding moments from one of our latest turkey hunting adventures in north Georgia.Turkey hunting is much more than just a sport; it's a dance with nature where every step counts. In this conversation, we navigate the varied landscapes of private and public lands, illustrating how the subtlest decisions can tilt the odds in our favor—or send us home with only stories to tell. Together, we dissect the intricacies of turkey behavior on hills and flatlands, the impact of weather on our feathered adversaries, and why setting up in the perfect spot sometimes means outsmarting hens and gobblers alike. And for those moments when the unexpected happens, like a wandering deer crashing the party, we share how we adapt and stay silent in the pursuit of the ultimate prize.Wrapping up, we take a moment to reflect on the deep-rooted traditions and community spirit that make turkey hunting an enduring part of our heritage. This episode isn't just about the hunts; it's a tribute to the camaraderie, the anticipation of future outings, and how the legacy of turkey hunting is woven into our very fabric. Chase and I invite you to join us as we prepare for the NWTF convention and plan our next excursions, including a hopeful jaunt to South Florida. Whether you're an experienced hunter or just love a good story from the great outdoors, we guarantee you'll walk away from this episode feeling part of something much bigger than yourself.Check out the SPRING LEGION YouTube Channel to watch the VidCast version of each episode by Clicking Here.Follow us on Instagram:@springlegion@hunter.farrior@austincsills@chasefarriorShop Spring Legion Online, using code PODCAST24 for 10% off your next online order! Smut and Django are back from their summer breaks, though the films still kept on coming. In this episode, they go over some of the themes, films and fun that happened while Cultpix Radio was off the air. There was no episode on Hungarian 'Easterns' (aka 'Goulash Westerns') or about director Bob Chinn, which might still get their own dedicated podcasts in the future. Meanwhile we have split the Top 10 lists into two - one 'Naughty' (adult) and 'Nice' (scifi, horror and everything else). We were written about in Variety and had a full spread in Scandinavia's largest broadsheet newspaper Dagens Nyheter. We signed deals for more German sex comedies and a brand new genre of South African blaxploitation films. We give a taster of the Bob Chinn Theme Week, the porn director who inspired the Burt Reynolds character in "Boogie Nights" (1997), with an intro clip from "Hot & Saucy Pizza Girls" (1978), with John Holmes interviewing Desiree Cousteau for the part of roller skate pizza-delivery girl.  We will definitely return to him, not least with many more of his films beautifully restored by our friends at Vinegar Syndrome. We had a season of martial arts/kung-fu films with two weeks of 'Everybody Was Kung-Fu Fighting', with Django Nudo's favourite "Black Samurai" (1976), which is martial arts-meets-blaxploitation and features jet-pack flying. Smut Peddler picks "The Vixens of Kung-Fu" (1978), which is martial arts mashed up with porn. We have knock-off Bruce Li in "Edge of Fury" (1978), but also the real Bruce Lee in "Martial Arts Mayhem Vol 1" (1970), Vol 2 and Vol 3. Thanks to our partner Echelon Studios and as part of our Theme Week - The 70's Horror Decade, we had two of our biggest films ever, including the original "Halloween" (1978) and David Cronenberg's "Shivers" (1975). We will have a future Rocky Horror 'Science Fiction - Double Feature' films mentioned in the song. We concluded our Zatoichi third theme week, a film series mentioned in Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" novelisation. There was the Sweden Abroad theme week and Science Fiction Classics, with a current season of Sappho Darling- Lesbian 60's.  There is a great Spotify summer playlist.

Obviously, both require a lot of the same skills and disciplines. In fact, a lot of baseball players are bowhunters themselves and love outdoor adventures in general. There are tons of ways to enjoy deer; but, AB3 prefers the classics: backstrap and stew. He doesn't do anything special with the backstrap. For him, experimenting with different seasonings and rubs and grilling the meat until it's done always makes for tasty wild game. Of the big four—Merriam, Rio Grande, Eastern, and Osceola; it has been said that the Easterns and Osceolas are the two toughest to hunt. AB3 has never hunted Osceolas, but says that Easterns are a pain to track because, unlike Merriams and Rios, they “shut the hell up” as soon as you call them.   Three Powerful Quotes   The big picture, at the end of the day, is folks getting back out in the world and enjoying events. ~AB3 I hate hunting Easterns because I've hunted Merriams and I've hunted Rios and, as an average to below-average caller, it's fun to call Merriams and Rios, but Easterns fly off the roost, hit the ground, and shut the hell up. ~AB3 Not everything in life has to be hard to be enjoyed. I'm a firm believer that there's too many people walking around saying if it's not hard and it's not a challenge, it's not rewarding. Bullshit. It can be just as rewarding and just as fun if it was easy and you had a good time doing it. ~AB3   Resources Mentioned   Bryant Land Show:  https://bryantlandcountry.com/the-bryant-land-country-podcast/ OnXHunt link: https://www.onxmaps.com/hunt-app Traeger Grills: https://www.traegergrills.com Patreon link: https://www.patreon.com/bryantland BassPro Affiliate: https://bassproshops.vzck.net/NaQx7 Follow Bryant Land on social media: Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube | Vimeo

The Turkey Hunter Podcast with Andy Gagliano | Turkey Hunting Tips, Strategies, and Stories

A Minnesota Turkey Hunt This week, Cameron shares his awesome Minnesota turkey hunt with us from the spring of 2020. This was a bit of an impulse trip for Cameron as he could not stand me sending him pictures of dead turkeys from my trip to the midwest with Yankee John and Chip. After getting several of those pictures, he decided he needed to load up and make the short 11 hour drive to Minnesota to chase some hard gobbling Easterns. I think he is pretty glad he made that decision. Listen in to this great episode with Cameron's hunt audio and story of his Minnesota wild turkey.

He is often called the Athanasius of the West, and the two men had much in common. They defended the Council of Nicaea and opposed the emperor ... and suffered exile for their trouble. But Hilary's approach to controversy differed from that of Athanasius. He listened to his opponents, read their works, and found common ground when he could. When he couldn't, he was able to address their concerns clearly and directly. He was even willing to work with heretics as they opposed more radical heresies. He composed the first systematic treatise on the Trinity and was perhaps the first to introduce hymns into Western worship. His own hymns are still sung today. It has truly meant the world to me!This was such a great conversation! Ted and I talked about what its like to coach at Harvard and what he is trying to do to build a community. He also goes into some detail on recruiting which was very insightful. Bio (from the Harvard website)Ted Minnis is in his ninth year as The Friends of Harvard Water Polo Head Coach. Minnis is the 10th coach in Harvard men's and women's water polo history, and the first individual to serve in the role since the position was endowed in May 2013.During the 2017 campaign with the men's team, Minnis helped lead the Crimson to a 24-8 overall record, a second-straight Northeast Water Polo Conference title and a second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The men's team concluded it's season with a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals in Los Angeles. He also helped guide freshman Dennis Blyashov to All-America third-team and NEWPC Rookie of the Year recognition, along with sophomore Austin Sechrest who was named an All-America honorable mention. Minnis now boasts 149 victories with the men's team. Coach Minnis became the winningest coach in Harvard water polo history for both the men’s and women’s programs during the 2016-17 season. On the men’s side, Minnis won his program-best 100th game on the opening day of the 2016 season against then-No. 10 UC Davis. Minnis and the Crimson finished with an overall record of 27-7, pushing his then-total to 125 victories. He is also the all-time leader in wins for the women's water polo program with 111 total wins, surpassing Chris Hafferty’s total of 81 wins during the 2014-15 campaign. The 2016 Harvard men’s water polo team recorded its third-straight season with 20-plus wins for the first time in school history and defeated a program record 13 ranked opponents. Harvard reached as high as No. 8 in the CWPA poll, marking its highest ranking ever. The Crimson won the first conference championship in school history, taking home the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Championship and clinching its first-ever NCAA Championship appearance. Harvard went on to win its first NCAA tournament game with a victory over No. 12 Bucknell, before defeating No.9 UC Davis to secure a spot in the NCAA Final Four.Minnis was recognized as the Monte Nitzkowski Distinguished Men's Coaching Award winner of 2016. He won the award for the Northeast zone earlier in the year, before being voted as the national recipient by a panel of judges.Minnis was selected as the 2016 USA Water Polo Zone Award Winner at the conclusion of the season for the Northeast. He helped guide Joey Colton to second-team All-America honors and Noah Harrison to All-America honorable mention. Colton, along with Dan Stevens, was named NWPC first team as well.On the women's side in 2016-17, Minnis helped lead the Crimson to a 15-14 mark and its highest finish since 2000 at the CWPA Championships. A team that allowed less than eight goals a game throughout the year, the Crimson powered past Indiana to reach the semifinals and ultimately record fourth overall at the tournament. In 2015, Coach Minnis guided the men’s program to a 21-10 overall record and one of its most historic seasons in program history. Harvard reached as high as No. 12 in the CWPA poll, and the Crimson finished third at the CWPA Championship and advanced to the semifinals for the first time during Minnis’ tenure. Harvard downed three top-10 opponents on the season and six ranked opponents, both program firsts. Minnis was honored as the CWPA Northern Division Coach of the Year for the second time and guided several members of the Crimson to postseason accolades. Anthony Ridgley was named CWPA Northern Division Rookie of the year, Ben Zepfel and Joey Colton earned nods on the first team, while Noah Harrison, Dan Stevens and Colin Woolway were named to the second team. The women's team enjoyed one of its most successful seasons yet in its sixth season under Minnis, finishing the year at 24-10, recording the first back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in program history. The Crimson checked in at No. 13 in the CWPA rankings from March 23 – April 6 for its highest ranking ever, while also marking a program first with nine wins against top-25 teams this season. The Crimson defeated the No. 13 ranked opponent twice, downing its highest ranked opponent in program history. Yoshi Andersen and Cleo Harrington earned CWPA Division I/II first team all-conference honors, while Melissa Balding was tabbed to the second team. The women's program was strong in his fifth season going 20-13, the most wins since 2004. For the team’s performance throughout the 2015 season, coach Minnis was named the CWPA Division I/II Coach of the Year, the first such honor obtained by a Harvard women's water polo coach. The 20 wins put Minnis atop the all-time wins list at 87 wins in just five seasons. The Crimson also had four players earn All-CWPA Division I/II honors, including Yoshi Andersen earning a first team nod.Coach Minnis also led the men’s program to a 22-10 overall record, its best finish under his tenure and the most wins since 2000. For the first time, Harvard went undefeated on its annual California road trip, going 5-0 including an upset victory over then-No. 16 Whittier. The Crimson finished second at the CWPA Northern Division Championship for the second consecutive season, after upsetting then-No. 17 St. Francis and narrowly falling to, the eventual Northern and Eastern champions, Brown in the championship game. Harvard’s strong season earned them numerous accolades. Sophomore Joey Colton was named the CWPA Northern Player of the Year and freshman Colin Chiapello was named the CWPA Northern Rookie of the Year, junior Ben Zepfel was named to the CWPA All-Northern first team for the second consecutive season, while sophomore Blake Lee and junior Collin Woolway were named to the CWPA All-Northern second team.In his fourth season at the helm, both programs continued to grow crossing the double-digit wins mark for a fourth consecutive season. The men finished the season 18-14 and took second place at the CWPA Northern Championship. Coach Minnis was named 2013 CWPA Coach of the Year along with three players earning All-CWPA Northern Division honors, led by Ben Zepfel being named to the first team. The women's side earned 15 wins in its fourth season under coach Minnis and took fourth place at the CWPA Northern Championships. Melissa Balding was named the 2014 Rookie of the Year, becoming the first ever women's player to earn that honor. She was joined by Yoshi Andersen who earn first team honors and Shayna Price who was named to the season team.In 2012-13, Minnis directed both programs to double-digit wins and berths in the CWPA Eastern Championships. The men’s team finished fourth at the CWPA Northern Division Championships, its highest finish since 2007, on its way to a seventh-place finish at Easterns. The men’s team also performed well out of the pool, as 13 Crimson were named CWPA Student-Athletes for the second consecutive season. The 2013 season saw Minnis direct the women’s program to its longest win streak, eight games, since water polo became an NCAA sport in 2001. Harvard ended the year 18-16 to give itself three consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 2000-02. The squad also went on to place sixth at the Eastern Championships, tied for the fifth-best finish in program history. Aisha Price ’13 (first team), Ariel Dukes ’15 (second team) and Yoshi Andersen ’16 (second team) were all named to the CWPA All-Southern Division team.On the women’s side, Harvard completed its second straight winning season (17-12) in 2012 and won four out of five regular season Southern Division contests. The squad, which finished in seventh place at the CWPA Eastern Championships, had one of the biggest wins in recent years, as it took down No. 20 Hartwick, 12-11, on Senior Night. Six Crimson players won a combined 10 Player of the Week awards while Devan Kennifer ’12 (first team) and Elise Molnar ’13 (second team) were named All-Southern Division. In his first season as a collegiate head coach and first year in charge of the Crimson, Minnis showed immediate success. The men's squad won its most games (12) in three seasons and matched its CWPA Northern Division Championship finish (fifth) from the previous year. The men's team also finished third at the Ivy Championships and boasted 13 CWPA Scholar-Athletes and ACWPC All-Academic award winners. The women's team was also instantly successful during Minnis' first season. The Crimson women logged 17 victories, its most wins in six years, and its first above .500 record since 2005. The team had two CWPA Southern Division All-Conference players in Devan Kennifer ’12 and Monica Zdrojewski ’12 and had five different players earn CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week, Defensive Player of the Week or Rookie of the Week honors during the season.Minnis, who has competed and coached at the youth, club and high school level, came to Cambridge after serving as the interim director of athletics, aquatics director and head water polo and swim coach as Castilleja School in Palo Alto, Calif.Minnis is a veteran coach at the Stanford Club. With Crowder, JP asks questions about the receiver being a new homeowner, Duke basketball, barbecue, how he found out about the Smith trade and his (lack of) social media habits. And with Smith, you'll hear the QB talk about how great it feels to be featured in an Easterns ad, traffic in the various places No. 11 has played in, how winning can be infectious throughout a city, his early impressions of Derrius Guice and the benefits of a training camp that's separate from the team facility. Native Opinion Episode 31 “They Assume Rights That Are Not Theirs”   Reach our show: hosts@nativeopinion.com Twitter: @nativeopinion Facebook.com/nativeopinion Leave us voice mail: https://www.speakpipe.com/nativeopinion     Native News:   ARTICLE 1: Eastern Pequots resurrect federal recognition bid   Published June 02. 2016 7:09PM  By Brian Hallenbeck  Day staff writer Http://www.theday.com    First the news. Then the context. The news is: The Eastern Pequot Tribe has renewed its pursuit of federal recognition, a crucial status it won in a 2002 Bureau of Indian Affairs decision that was reversed three years later. In a petition sent last month to the BIA, the tribe — identifying itself as the “Historical Eastern Pequot Tribe” — asks the agency to “declare and reaffirm” its status as a “Previously Federally Acknowledged Tribe.” Summary: Taken from the article. What does this mean for The Eastern Pequot Nation? Following a lengthy overhaul of the federal-recognition process, the Interior Department adopted new regulations last year that many believed would preclude the Eastern Pequots and other tribes that had been denied recognition from resurrecting their claims. “Any petitioner that was previously denied Federal acknowledgment under this process may not re-petition,” the Interior Department announced. “This includes any petitioners that have reorganized or been renamed or that are wholly or primarily portions of groups that have been denied under these or previous acknowledgment regulations.” The Easterns’ petition, submitted by James Benny Jones Jr., a Washington, D.C.-based attorney and a member of the tribe, contends that the Historical Eastern Pequot Tribe “has never previously petitioned for Federal acknowledgment as either the Historical Eastern Pequot Tribe or under its constitutional government of the Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation.” Jones did not respond to phone and email messages seeking comment. In 2002, the BIA acknowledged the Eastern Pequot Indians and the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Indians as one group, the Historical Eastern Pequot Tribe. The state and the towns of Ledyard, North Stonington, and Preston joined a challenge of the decision, prompting the Interior Board of Indian Appeals to review it. The Interior Department announced in October 2005 that it declined to recognize the Eastern Pequots and the Paucatuck Eastern Pequots, ruling that both tribal factions failed to meet two of seven mandatory requirements for acknowledgment. The department found that the state’s recognition of the Historical Eastern Pequot Tribe did not constitute evidence that the tribe had existed as a “community” or that it had maintained “political authority and influence” over its members from historical times to the present.   Article 2:   Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts isn't worried about a lawsuit filed by casino opponents. The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts isn't worried about a lawsuit filed by casino opponents. The tribe broke ground on the First Light Resort and Casino in early April. Opponents are asking a federal judge to halt construction but Chairman Cedric Cromwell said the facility is on track to open in the summer of 2017. "We do not see this lawsuit against the federal government as having any impact on our progress,' Cromwell told The Cape Cod Times. The tribe appears to be on the strong legal ground because the complaint in Littlefield v. Department of the Interior names the Bureau of Indian Affairs as the defendant. Due to sovereign immunity, the tribe cannot be sued without its consent. "In no other case has a court had to confront a sovereign tribe, put into immediate possession of trust lands, starting to construct a casino before any judicial review has occurred," attorney David Tennant, who is representing the casino opponents, said in an affidavit that was filed in support of a request to halt construction on the project. The BIA approved the land-into-trust application for the casino last fall and the land was declared a reservation in January. Summary: Once again, the attempts to halt Native progress is in full swing. It does not matter if it is wearing an Eagle feather at a graduation, or a project that will help Natives become, or stay self-sufficient. Even though I am not a supporter of Indian gaming, and there is a good reason why I am not a supporter, the fact remains, there are forces at work that are determined to halt ANY progress Natives try to make. That has been the case since contact.   Article 3: Title: This Date in History: American Indians Gain Citizenship – June 2, 1924 BY NATIVE NEWS ONLINE STAFF / CURRENTS / 02 JUN 2016 Published June 2, 2016    Summary: Imagine that! We were made citizens in our own country! 91 years ago, Congress passed and President Calvin Coolidge signed the Indian Citizenship Act, which stated “all noncitizen Indians born within the territorial limits of the United States be, and they are hereby declared to be, citizens of the United States: Provided that the granting of such citizenship shall not in any manner impair or otherwise affect the right of any Indian to tribal or other property.”  Only a non-Native would presume and assume the right to decide the fates of those who they have no right to judge, rule, or treat less than human.   The Clintons’ Haiti Screw-Up, As Told By Hillary’s Emails The family still doesn't know how to wield its own power. By Jonathan M. Katz September 02, 2015 It’s hard to find anyone these days who looks back on the U.S.-led response to the January 12, 2010, Haiti earthquake as a success, but it wasn’t always that way. Right after the disaster, even as neighborhoods lay in rubble, their people sweltering under tarps, the consensus—outside Haiti—was that America’s “compassionate invasion” (as TIME Magazine called it) had been “largely a success” (Los Angeles Times), offering further proof that “in critical moments of the history of mankind … the United States is, in fact, the indispensable nation” (Expresso, Portugal). As the latest release of Hillary Clinton’s personal emails by the U.S. State Department Monday revealed, that perception was not an accident. “We waged a very successful campaign against the negative stories concerning our involvement in Haiti,” Judith McHale, the under-secretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs, wrote on February 26, 2010. The Clintons did not make an effort to assist the people of Haiti the way they led the world to believe. The Red Cross is not exempt from the lack of aid that should have been rendered to Haiti. Red Cross Built Exactly 6 Homes for Haiti With Nearly Half A Billion Dollars In Donations.  The Clinton’s own daughter was less than enthused with what she saw happening, and even less of what should have been happening. According to, Chelsea Clinton, and I quote:     “The incompetence is mind numbing,” she told her parents. “The UN people I encountered were frequently out of touch … anachronistic in their thinking at best and arrogant and incompetent at worst.” “There is NO accountability in the UN system or international humanitarian system.” The weak Haitian government, which had lost buildings and staff in the disaster, had something of a plan, she noted. Yet because it had failed to articulate its wishes quickly enough, foreigners rushed forward with a “proliferation of ad hoc efforts by the UN and INGOs [international nongovernmental organizations] to ‘help,’ some of which have helped … some of which have hurt … and some which have not happened at all.” End quote. Is it possible the former “First daughter” is not swayed but the aroma of money and power? We can only hope.   Read more: http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/09/hillary-clinton-email-213110#ixzz4AXrgR7Z4  Follow us: @politico on Twitter | Politico on Facebook   Title:   Main Stream News Media delegate estimate  The media fix is in. Tuesday, June 7th, mainstream media plans to call the democratic primary over, and Hillary Clinton the presumptive nominee of the Democratic party at 8PM eastern. This is a deliberate attempt by the media to affect voter turnout in California by making people believe it isn't worth getting out to vote. You will see the media stating that Hillary Clinton only needs 70-90 votes to win. This is false because they are counting SUPER DELEGATES in those projections. They have been doing that since the beginning, and they are all wrong. Super delegates only vote AT the democratic convention in July. The media is purposefully inflating Hillary Clintons voter numbers to sway public opinion away from Bernie Sanders. The race is much closer between her and Senator Sanders. Do NOT believe what the media is telling you! California....please VOTE on Tuesday!
