Season 2 - Episode 14:
In this episode, Scott sits down with Darren Marble — the creator of Going Public and founder of Issuance — for a wide-ranging conversation on the rise of retail investors, the evolution of equity crowdfunding, and why he believes the best days of this industry are still ahead. Darren shares the inside story of launching Going Public, a groundbreaking series now partnered with X (formerly Twitter), where everyday people can invest in startups while watching. He opens up about the challenges of getting mainstream media to understand the vision, the value of showmanship in a complex industry, and how they're landing major talent like Baron Davis, Floyd Mayweather, and Steve Aoki to bring visibility to private investing. Scott and Darren go deep into the early days of crowdfunding, the Elio Motors deal that kicked it all off, the philosophy behind Issuance's white-label platform, and why building a frictionless checkout for investing (complete with Apple Pay and USDC) was always the obvious play. This episode is full of gems on what it really takes to build trust, media attention, and infrastructure in a space often ignored by institutions — until now. “What it all comes down to is for a lot of these young guys, choices, decisions, consequences. You got a choice not to participate.” Fred Taylor on young athletes' decision-making Pivot Family, Your favorite trio is back with a new Pivot Friday talking all the biggest storylines in sports, culture and trying to make sense of life through our own experiences. As always Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor, and Channing Crowder keep it 100 as they speak candidly about everything from NBA criticisms to NFL Combine to Hooters closing to men aging gracefully as the guys realize they aren't the young bucks they once were…In that, the OG's share advice for this new generation of athletes to act responsible with women, sex, money and how to avoid falling in traps that will negatively impact them. Does the NFL Combine still have the same allure it once did? The guys dive into how big name players choose to skip the drills and choose to participate at their school's pro day vs in Indianapolis. With heightened attention around Shedeur Sanders not throwing, Ryan points out that Shedeur faces more scrutiny than other QBs because of his last name while Channing says the Combine is more for the cusp guys or athletes trying to have one last shot to grab a team's attention to separate from the pack since so much film and data is already compiled at this point. Former NHL star, PK Subban, recently made comments on NBA players lacking passion for the sport which has sparked a national conversation on sports and NBA competitiveness as Fred breaks down where he sees the comments originating. Ryan admittedly feels the sports world, including himself, have disrespected our generation of legends like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry, constantly nitpicking instead of appreciating their greatness. With the rise of international basketball stars, have we given enough respect to our own US born elite? The conversation shifts to choices, decisions, and consequences, with Fred warning young athletes about making better decisions with women and their money. Channing keeps it real, saying, “You didn't get cuter, you just got richer,” explaining why athletes should be smarter about who they let into their lives. Ryan emphasizes the importance of learning what a healthy relationship looks like and breaking the cycle of broken homes and settling for mediocrity personally. Channing makes a funny but valid comparison of how the internet has his financial status marketed and how he approached women as he was the young athlwt Shifting the conversation to saying farewell to a once national treasure, Hooters, as Fred talks about it being a sign of the times with all these staple places closing up shop. Ryan has his cultural thoughts on why Hooters should have evolved with their customer service catering to the demographic who loves wings while Channing shares his personal interactions over the years adding his storytelling flare to the conversation that has everyone laughing in tears! With the recent Eagles rumors of visiting 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue after the Super Bowl, The guys talk about the tradition of athletes visiting the White House, with Fred believing it should be a personal decision while Ryan agrees but says some players no longer see the White House as a symbol of unity, comparing it to how locker rooms represent true diversity, equity, and inclusion. And stick around to the end as the guys discuss the state of Boxing, with Gervonta Tank Davis' recent comments about Floyd Mayweather prior to his championship bout vs Lamont Roach this wknd. Per usual, this episode is full of laughs, real talk, and deep discussions about sports, culture, and life. From the NFL combine to NBA players getting flack to young athletes making mistakes to Channing's shenanigans over the years, The Pivot trio delivers another must-listen conversation. If you thought Deflategate was the last of Tom Brady's antics, think again. As star Rams quarterback Matt Stafford nears the final year of his lucrative contract, his agent and the Rams organization have agreed to let him explore his options and gauge his free-agent market. However, does this agreement include Stafford visiting the home of Las Vegas Raiders minority owner Tom Brady? Jason and Steve Kim explore whether Brady is stepping over the line and tampering with Stafford's "limited" agreement with the Rams regarding his impending free agency. Meanwhile, the NFL is looking to implement overtime rule changes for next season, as well as correcting human error when it comes to ball placement. Shedeur Sanders' draft stock continues to plummet as many wonder: What is his superpower? What separates him from the rest? Send us a textThe New York Giants head into a crucial offseason with a massive salary cap increase that could give them the flexibility to reshape the roster. The NFL has informed teams that the cap will rise significantly, landing between $277.5 and $281.5 million. With this increase, the Giants currently hold around $45.1 million in available cap space, according to Spotrac. But that number could skyrocket past $85 million if they make expected moves, including cutting veterans like Nunez-Roches and restructuring key contracts. This level of financial freedom could position the Giants to be major players in free agency. As the Giants plan for their future, two of their stars have received well-deserved recognition. Dexter Lawrence and Malik Nabers both landed in PFF's Top 101 players list. Lawrence continues to be one of the most dominant defensive tackles in the league, finishing with top-three grades at his position and racking up nine sacks in 2024. Meanwhile, Nabers was not only the best rookie wide receiver in the league but also ranked among the NFL's top overall receivers with 1,204 yards, proving he is a cornerstone for the Giants' offense moving forward. Adding to the offseason buzz, PFF outlined a dream scenario for the Giants that includes signing veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs and drafting quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The idea of pairing Diggs with Malik Nabers would immediately elevate the Giants' passing attack, while Sanders' polished mechanics and strong passing foundation make him an intriguing potential franchise quarterback. ESPN's Jordan Raanan broke down what it might cost for the Giants to move up to the No. 1 pick, with a package including the third and 34th overall picks, plus possible additional Day 2 selections. The Giants also said goodbye to a former player as Jon Feliciano announced his retirement. Feliciano reflected on his time in New York, calling the team's playoff win over Minnesota his favorite moment. Meanwhile, the coaching staff takes a hit as running backs coach Joel Thomas departs to rejoin the New Orleans Saints under new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. In a surprising turn, boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is reportedly leading a group looking to buy a 10% stake in the New York Giants. Mayweather, alongside real estate mogul Meyer Orbach, has reportedly secured $200 million in an escrow account as part of a larger $700 million proposal. If successful, this move could shake up the ownership landscape for the franchise. With major financial flexibility, potential blockbuster moves, and ownership intrigue, the Giants are setting up for a defining offseason. Rob speaks again with Andrew Tate about power, entrepreneurship and why the threat of violence underpins most decisions and actions by men in society. He also reveals why happiness isn’t the purpose of life and why all entrepreneurs are narcissists. KEY TAKEAWAYS The threat of violence influences almost all decisions, even if most of the time it is isn't done consciously. Tate believes that when you get to a certain level of wealth like he has, you are above many things including performance for others. Tate turned down a fight with Floyd Mayweather as he is one of his heroes! Tate doesn’t believe happiness is the purpose in life and chasing it will make you miserable. Instead, focus on creating success. Most people are terrible at accepting and apologising when they have done wrong or made a mistake. On this week's episode of The R&B Money Podcast, Tank and J Valentine welcome OT Genasis for a raw, unadorned conversation. The Long Beach, California native reflects on his challenging upbringing trying to navigate school and street life. Genasis moved from school to school, searching for something more. He found it in faith and in the pulse of his own music. He speaks of early days, the kind filled with gritty studio sessions and electric shows, and how Busta Rhymes played a part in his rise. Hits like “CoCo” emerged, bringing fame, tours, and Vegas residencies. Big names, Beyoncé, Floyd Mayweather, they noticed. It’s a journey of authenticity, of staying grounded amidst life's storms. The talk wanders, not just about music, but about life's realness. The bond between Tank, J Valentine, and OT is clear, as if forged in simplicity and truth. Hour 1 Yesterday Aaron Rodgers said something that should frighten Jets fans. He was asked if he's going to play next year and he said, ‘yes'. Send us a textEver been stranded on a road trip because someone forgot the essentials, like gas? Join us on "4 Steppers Only" as we stumble hilariously through a mishap-filled adventure, which serves as a comedic reminder of the importance of preparation. Amidst our laughter, we ponder the absurdity of cultural portrayals in horror movies, especially the instinct of black characters to flee the scene of danger. This light-hearted banter sets the tone for an episode filled with candid conversations on relationships, rumors, and the need to metaphorically claim your territory.Navigating through the murky waters of jealousy and respect, we unravel the metaphor of "pissing on territory" in relationships, as strange as that sounds. Inspired by Floyd Mayweather's views, we debate the fine line between ownership and respect, highlighting how misunderstandings can spark unnecessary jealousy. By sharing personal stories and humorous jabs, we underline the importance of handling responsibilities to safeguard personal boundaries, all while questioning the need for such territorial instincts. The complexities of relationship dynamics and the business-like nature of child support also make their way into our conversation, with reflections on how these issues reshape communication. Discussing motivations and misunderstandings, we offer insights into the art of choosing battles wisely and preserving authenticity amidst chaos. With anecdotes about gaming consoles and the absurdity of unexpected schemes, we wrap up with a nod to personal growth and an exhausted yet heartfelt thanks to our listeners for keeping up with our antics.Watch Me Do ItTwo 40-something single ladies dive into dating, divorce, men, friendships, work & more Listen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifySupport the show
