Clean Energy Exploitations: Helping Citizens Understand the Environmental and Humanity Abuses That Support Clean Energy by Ronald Stein, Todd Royal Americaoutloud.news/author/ronald-stein-p-e https://www.amazon.com/Clean-Energy-Exploitations-Understand-Environmental/dp/1665704977 The global focus on reducing emissions must be ethical instead of supporting environmental degradation. The book Clean Energy Exploitations – Helping citizens understand the environmental and humanity abuses that support ‘clean’ energy” is a Nominee for the 2022 Pulitzer Prize competition in the General Nonfiction category. Pulitzer Prize Winners and Finalists will be announced in April 2022. They also emphasize the global nature of the problem, noting that the United States of America could cease to exist and we’d see environmental problems get worse. In this book, they answer questions such as: Would the Green New Deal cut worldwide emissions? What toll is energy racism and inequality taking on the world? How effective are renewable forms of energy in meeting our needs? Whose duty is it to reduce harmful pollution? Green advocates often say they support sustainable and ethical coffee, sneakers, handbags, and diamonds-and they claim they won’t tolerate unsafe conditions. But when it comes to green energy and battery energy storage systems for electrical grids and electric vehicles, the authors say it is a different story.
Storytelling is having a moment. But most brands are still telling stories that sound exactly the same.On this episode of Talking Tactics, Safy sits down with John Gorman, founder of Saint Orange, to unpack why “storytelling” has become marketing's favorite buzzword and how it lost its edge along the way. They get into what actually separates storytelling from narrative and copywriting, why higher ed marketing has been sanded down to beige, and how playing it safe is quietly killing differentiation. From building lore without blowing up your institution to measuring whether a story is doing its job, this conversation is equal parts strategic, cultural, and refreshingly honest. If you're a marketer who wants fewer buzzwords, better stories, and permission to take smarter creative risks, press play.Guest Name: John Gorman, Founder & Principal, Saint OrangeGuest Social: https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnfgorman/Guest Bio: John Gorman is a strategist, writer, keynote speaker, and creative director living in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Bertie is joined by Mark Jacobson, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University, whose research formed the foundation for the Green New Deal. In his new book, “Still No Miracles Needed: How Today's Technology Can Save Our Climate and Clean Our Air,” he underlines that we have already developed the technologies necessary to solve the climate crisis.Dr. Jacobson argues that wind, water and solar power are the most effective tools for reducing emissions, that the development of energy-intensive “unicorn technologies” such as carbon capture and storage only prolongs fossil fuel use.Mark Jacobson is Director of Stanford's Atmosphere and Energy Program and a co-founder of The Solutions Project, which advances clean, renewable energy systems. In this explosive episode of The Alan Sanders Show, we dive deep into the brazen leftist disruption at Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, where Don Lemon and anti-ICE activist Nekima Levy Armstrong led a mob that stormed a peaceful Sunday service over Pastor David Easterwood's ties to ICE. Families and kids were terrified as protesters chanted, obstructed worship, and shut it down, triggering a DOJ civil rights investigation under the FACE Act for federal violations protecting religious freedom. While ICE ramps up arrests of the worst criminal illegal aliens in Minnesota, including murderers, rapists, gang members like MS-13, and one with 24 convictions, sanctuary politicians like Gov. Walz and Mayor Frey release hundreds back into communities, endangering Americans. Plus, big wins against globalism: Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told the WEF in Davos that the age of globalization has failed the West and America asTrump's team is ending job offshoring and no longer bowing to it. And Energy Secretary Chris Wright is returning $13 billion in unobligated Green New Deal subsidies to the Treasury, scrapping wasteful wind, solar, EV, and battery handouts to refocus on reliable, affordable American energy. Don't miss this full breakdown of attacks on faith, law enforcement victories, and the end of failed globalist policies. America First is winning! Tendo a alta cúpula do governo americano lá, seria interessante ter algum representante do alto escalão do governo brasileiro”, observa Pfeifer.
In this episode we speak with Alyssa Battistoni about her most recent book, Free Gifts: Capitalism and the Politics of Nature published back in August 2025 by Princeton University Press.Alyssa is a political theorist with research interests in environmental and climate politics, feminism, Marxist thought, political economy, and the history of political thought. She is the co-author of A Planet to Win: Why We Need a Green New Deal published by Verso in 2019. We highly recommend reading both of these books, found here: Free GiftsA Planet to Win Battistoni writes frequently for publications including the Nation, Dissent, Jacobin, n+1, and Boston Review, and is on the editorial boards of Jacobin and Dissent. She received her PhD from Yale in 2019 and previously held the position of Environmental Fellow at Harvard University. This episode explores the political work done by the idea that nature is either “inside” or “outside” the production process. We unpack how nature can function as a so-called free gift to capital, how it is sometimes strategically left alone in order to remain cheap or undervalued, and how it is, at other times, simply resistant to capture—unruly, uneven, and not fully governable by capitalist logics. Drawing on feminist political economy and eco-feminist thought, Alyssa reflects on what these traditions make visible—and where they fall short. We talk about how capitalism defines economic value, what counts as productive activity, and how vast realms of work are rendered invisible or treated as “free,” whether implicitly or explicitly. This leads us into a discussion of externalities, not only as technical economic categories, but as deeply political mechanisms that displace responsibility, undermine democratic decision-making, and fracture possibilities for collective action.A key thread running through the conversation is the insistence that nature works. It labors. It is not a passive backdrop or inert input, but a dynamic ensemble of living beings, processes, and labor the fruits of which are routinely appropriated by capital. While capital recognizes only waged labour as work, Alyssa draws a careful parallel between feminist critiques of unwaged reproductive labour and the unwaged labour performed by nature while also pushing against some of the limits of these analogies, and asking what they obscure as much as what they reveal. This conversation only scratches the surface of the richness and density of Free Gifts. It's important to mention this as we live through content overload and informational overstimulation, we want to be clear that this episode is an entry point, not a substitute. If you're able to, we strongly encourage you to read the book and support Alyssa's work. I am joined by my colleague Nick Gottlieb. Thanks for being part of this, Nick! :) If this episode resonates, please share it with others who might find it generative as well.
Lithium, a crucial input in the batteries powering electric vehicles, has the potential to save the world from climate change. But even green solutions come at a cost. Mining lithium is environmentally destructive. We therefore confront a dilemma: Is it possible to save the world by harming it in the process? Having spent over a decade researching mining and oil sectors in Latin America, Thea Riofrancos is a leading voice on resource extraction. In this episode, we discuss her 2025 book Extraction: The Frontiers of Green Capitalism, in which she draws on groundbreaking fieldwork on the global race for lithium. Taking readers from the breathtaking salt flats of Chile's Atacama Desert to Nevada's glorious Silver Peak Range to the rolling hills of the Barroso Region of Portugal, the book reveals the social and environmental costs of “critical minerals.” She takes stock of new policy paradigms in the Global South, where governments seek to leverage mineral assets to jumpstart green development. Zooming out from lithium, we also discuss the evolving geopolitics and geoeconomics of energy transition, critical minerals, and green technology supply chains. — Thea Riofrancos is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Providence College, a Strategic Co-Director of the Climate and Community Institute, and a fellow at the Transnational Institute. Her research focuses on resource extraction, climate change, the energy transition, the global lithium sector, green technologies, social movements, and the Latin American left. Clean energy won't save us from the effects of climate change.Amid corporate Net Zero campaigns, the politics of the Green New Deal, and the calls to abandon fossil fuels for renewable technology — or vice versa — lies a troubling truth: No clean technological solutions can solve the problem of human-induced climate change. To find a credible path to a sustainable future, we must set aside hopes of building our way out of humanity's addictions to energy and material convenience. In Why We Struggle to Go Green: Hard Truths about the Clean Energy Transition (Texas A&M Press, 2025), Tom Ortiz offers a clear-eyed assessment of our efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change. As a mechanical engineer who has traversed the conventional and renewable energy landscapes for 30 years, Ortiz provides an in-depth yet easy-to-understand assessment of the harsh reality facing mankind.Bridging the gap between academic research and journalism, Ortiz shows why there are no easy answers in the energy transition. Beginning with a general overview of human energy use and a summary of key physical constraints on energy and natural resource extraction, the book details five pillars of the transition: electrification, carbon capture and storage, hydrogen, recycling, and carbon pricing. Ortiz concludes with recommendations for changes society can make that, while perhaps painful and controversial, will reduce our collective environmental impact and bequeath a more manageable legacy to future generations. Why We Struggle to Go Green cuts through the hype and rhetoric to offer something rare: climate change realism from someone who's spent decades looking for solutions. The conservative movement is officially at war. This weekend at TPUSA's "AmericaFest" in Phoenix—the first since the tragic loss of Charlie Kirk—the tensions finally boiled over. Ben Shapiro took the stage to blast Tucker Carlson for "moral imbecility," while Tucker fired back at the "hall monitors" trying to deplatform him. Tom Pappert (The Tennessee Star) joins me to break down the most explosive weekend in the history of the movement and what it means for the 2026 midterms. Then, we look at the other "war" happening this week: The war on reality. A new report exposes that the Census Bureau is refusing to count $1.4 trillion in welfare payments as income. If they did, the poverty rate would drop from 10% to 1%. We are bankrupting the nation to solve a problem that—statistically—doesn't exist. Plus, the "Lightning" has struck out. Ford officially killed the F-150 Lightning this week, taking a $19.5 billion write-down. Jon Miltimore is here to explain why the free market just delivered the ultimate rebuke to the Green New Deal. And finally... whatever happened to the office Christmas party? We look at why HR departments killed the "bacchanal" and why Gen Z is the only generation trying to bring it back. Today's Show: Monologue: The "Sanitized" Society. From Christmas parties to poverty stats, we are being fed a fake version of reality. In this episode of The P.A.S. Report, Professor Nick Giordano exposes the rapid rise of Democratic Socialism in the United States following the victories of Zohran Mamdani and Seattle's Katie Wilson, breaking down why this movement is gaining momentum and what it truly means for America. Professor Giordano reveals how millions of voters, especially younger Americans, are embracing socialism, only to be sold a lie that promises Scandinavian welfare but delivers Venezuelan control. He breaks down how the Democratic Socialist platform calls for public ownership of industry, government control of major institutions, and the abolition of capitalism according to their own documents. This episode delivers a clear warning, a deep dive into the DSA and Green New Deal agenda, and why Republicans ignore this movement at their own peril. Episode Highlights A breakdown of why Democratic Socialism is rapidly expanding and why the victories of Mamdani and Wilson signal a national ideological shift. A detailed examination of the Democratic Socialist platform, including calls for government control of production, media, housing, education, and the abolition of capitalism. A compelling analysis of how America's cultural, economic, and educational decline created fertile ground for socialist ideology, and what conservatives must do to counter it.
It's Monday, November 24th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Nigerian Muslim terrorists abducted 300 Catholic students and staff Muslim terrorists abducted 315 Catholic students and staff from St. Mary's School in the northern region of Nigeria on Friday, reports International Christian Concern. Those kidnapped include 303 students and 12 teachers. It's one of the worst kidnappings in the nation's history, which has tragically become a flashpoint for persecution against Catholics and Protestants. No doubt many of them are echoing the prayer of Psalm 141:1-2 where David wrote, “I call to You, Lord, come quickly to me; hear me when I call to You. May my prayer be set before You like incense.” Back in 2014, Boko Haram, an Islamic terrorist group, seized 276 Chibok schoolgirls. In addition, the Islamic State West Africa Province and Fulani Muslim herdsmen have also wreaked havoc on the West African country. The Trump administration, which designated Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern, has recently pressured the Nigerian government to do more to protect Catholics and Protestants. During the past 20 years, Nigerian Muslims have killed 50,000 Christians, displacing hundreds of thousands more. Shawn Wright, the new president of International Christian Concern, issued an urgent call to action. To the government of Nigeria, he called officials to: Deploy specialized rescue forces immediately and recover the abducted Christians without delay. Strengthen protection for Christian institutions. Address underlying persecution. And to the United States government, Shawn Wright called officials to: Immediately enact tougher economic sanctions against Nigeria. leverage assistance to Nigeria based on results. Support civil society and Christian groups in Nigeria. Use diplomatic influence there. Wright said, “When children are hauled from their dormitories, when … teachers are terrorized, when entire communities live in the shadow of fear — silence is complicity.” Former Brazilian President arrested ahead of vigil to prevent escape Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was taken into custody on Saturday, hours before a vigil was to be held outside his residence, reports One America News. On Saturday, the former president's period of house arrest ended after having been confined since August for violating a ban on the use of social media. Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son, posted a video on Friday calling for a vigil in front of his father's condominium where Javier was under house arrest. Flavio said, “I invite you to fight with us.” Brazil's Supreme Court ruled that the planned vigil could “cause serious harm to public order,” and potentially prevent Bolsonaro from being arrested or enable his “escape.” Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said that Bolsonaro violated his ankle monitor early Saturday morning. President Donald Trump, a long-term ally of Bolsonaro, denounced the charges against the former Brazilian leader as politically motivated, calling it a “witch hunt.” He imposed a 50% tariff on United States imports of Brazilian goods in response, which Trump began to roll back this month following a meeting with current President Luiz da Silva. Canadian pork producer objects to unlabeled lab-grown meat One of Canada's largest organic pork producers says the public deserves clear labelling, and a real choice before cloned meat hits supermarket shelves, reports Rebel News. Normally, experimental items like this fall under Canada's novel foods category, requiring a thorough pre-market safety assessment. This framework mandates that developers provide detailed data on production, contaminants, allergens, toxins, and nutrition. Health Canada reviews typically take about 410 days. However, Health Canada quietly released a statement on November 13th concluding, based on "all available information" and "scientific opinion," that foods from lab-grown clones of healthy cattle and swine are as safe as those from traditionally bred animals. This lab-grown meat has rightly been dubbed “franken-beef” like Frankenstein, the grotesque humanoid character, created in the imagination of Mary Shelley in 1818, who was put together using different body parts from fresh graves and vaults of skeletal remains. Health Canada has innocuously labeled the lab-grown meat as “cellular agriculture.” Proverbs 12:22 says, “The LORD detests lying lips, but He delights in people who are trustworthy.” Tamara Ugolini of Rebel News offered this warning to Canadians. UGOLINI: “Health Canada has decided there's no meaningful difference between lab-grown, cloned meat and real life grown meat. So, no labels, no warnings, and, once again, no transparency from the agency allegedly dedicated to regulatory openness and transparency.” Vincent Breton, a legitimate live pork producer, said, “Consumers should have the right to decide for themselves whether they are going to buy genetically modified foods.” Marjorie Taylor Greene resigns from Congress after clash with Trump Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Make America Great Again firebrand who rose to prominence as a combative supporter of President Donald Trump, announced late Friday she is resigning from Congress after a public feud with him, reports Politico.com. Greene, who was elected to Congress in 2020 from a rural northwestern Georgia district, made the surprise announcement in an 11-minute video address. She cited her willingness to oppose the Democratic agenda which was costly on a personal level. GREENE: “I have fought against Democrats' damaging policies like the Green New Deal, wide open, deadly, unsafe border policies, and the trans agenda on children and against women. With that has brought years of non-stop, never-ending personal attacks, death threats, lawfare, ridiculous slander and lies about me that most people could never withstand even for a single day.” She also noted the handful of differences she had with President Trump. GREENE: “I never changed or went back on my campaign promises and only disagreed in a few areas, like my stance against H-1B replacing American jobs, AI state moratoriums, debt-for-life-50-year-mortgage scams, standing strongly against all involvement in foreign wars and demanding the release of the Epstein files. Other than that, my voting record has been solidly with my party and the president. “Loyalty should be a two-way street, and we should be able to vote our conscience and represent our district's interests because our job title is literally Representative.'” Congresswoman Greene highlighted her disagreement with President Trump over the Epstein files. GREENE: “Standing up for American women who were raped at 14 years old, trafficked and used by rich, powerful men should not result in me being called a traitor and threatened by the President of the United States, whom I fought for.” She did not want to go through a bruising Republican primary in the spring. GREENE: “I do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President that we all fought for, only to fight and win my election, while Republicans will likely lose the midterms, and, in turn, be expected to defend the President against impeachment after he hatefully dumped tens of millions of dollars against me and tried to destroy me.” That's what led to her surprise resignation announcement. GREENE: “I'll be resigning from office, with my last day being January, 5, 2026.” Stray mutt gets award for comforting families after school shooting And finally, a stray mutt that turned into a service dog, soothing kids after a school shooting, has just been crowned the 2025 Hero Dog Award by the American Humane Society, reports GoodNewsNetwork.org. Sgt. Bo, the mixed breed from Nashville, Tennessee, may have started as a stray, but after being rescued off the streets of Florida in 2022, and trained for 12 weeks by prisoners in Brevard County, the four-year-old mutt became a certified therapy dog with the Nashville Police Department. Just three months into his service with Officer Faye Okert, tragedy struck when a transgender killed three students and three teachers at the city's Covenant School. Sgt. Bo was called to help comfort children and families at the reunification site—climbing onto buses, letting shaken students rest against him, and staying until the last family left. Since then, he has continued visiting schools across the community, helping kids open up, easing anxiety, and reminding everyone that healing can come from the most unexpected places. In Part 2, we pick up where we left off in Part 1, with that fateful visit Saikat took to The Mission. He and friends worked a lot, but didn't have a lot of money (sound familiar?). To learn The City and have some fun, they signed up for as many walking tours as they could find. After a few months living in Park Merced, Saikat relocated to The Mission—16th and Hoff, specifically. Esta Noche was nearby, and it's where he saw his first drag show. A buddy worked with Saikat to build a web wireframing tool (think the basics of web design, the skeleton of sites, so to speak). They knew some other folks in tech, naturally, and met the people who were launching Stripe, an e-payments then in startup mode. Stripe eventually hired Saikat and his friend. Saikat was the fledgling company's second engineer. He started to see tech as a force for social good, but that didn't really jell well with the work he did for Stripe. And so he quit a couple years in. The woman he was dating at the time (whom he later married) still lived in New York, and Saikat visited as often as he could. He didn't yet consider himself political, but he was thinking about issues, specifically income inequality, poverty, and climate change. In early 2015, Bernie Sanders announced his run for president in the 2016 election. Saikat hadn't heard of Sanders at that point, but he was addressing those very issues that had become important to Saikat. He signed up to be a Bernie volunteer and started on a sub-Reddit called "Coders for Sanders." But Saikat wanted "in" in. And so he got in touch with someone working on the campaign. That someone was Zack Exley, whose political biography runs deep. Exley's job with the Sanders campaign at the time Saikat got in touch was to organize all the volunteers wanting to work for Bernie but who didn't live in the first four primary states (Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina). That effort needed tech solutions, which Saikat brought. But they weren't hiring technologists at the time. Still, Exley "snuck" him on as an organizer. He expected the experience not to be a big deal. He'd work for about a year, maybe learn a thing or two. But the Bernie 2016 campaign had other ideas. "We were on the brink of actually doing these big, structural changes," he says of his time on the campaign. Coming out of that experience, he and other organizers decided to take what they had learned and start applying it to folks running for Congress, starting with the 2018 midterms. Initially, they called their effort "Brand-New Congress," and the goal was to recruit 400 people nationwide to run for office. They fell far short of that ambition, managing to get around a dozen folks to run. They wanted people from all walks of life, not just lawyers, which Congress was and is made up of primarily. And they got that, just not on the scale they had hoped. The group became Justice Democrats, which is still in existence today. They didn't have the money to spend heavily on most of their candidates, so they went all-in on someone named Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez out of The Bronx. Her brother had nominated her as part of Brand-New Congress, and Saikat had gotten to know her through the process. He saw early on what a powerful candidate she was. He moved to NYC to help run AOC's first bid for Congress as a co-campaign manager. She won, of course, and Saikat had a front-row seat for AOC's ascendancy to the national stage. He says she was her authentic self through it all. Saikat helped start a think tank coming out of the Sanders campaign as well, developing many policy positions and ideas, among them what came to be known as the Green New Deal. It was a policy platform as much as anything else. It called for a renewed and very much intensified effort to combat climate change while also creating and upgrading infrastructure. They approached every candidate running for president in 2020 asking them to sign on to a Green New Deal pledge. They all eventually did. (Biden's "Build Back Better" platform was essentially a version of the Green New Deal.) Around this same time, Saikat had signed on to be AOC's chief of staff. But Ocasio-Cortez wanted him to be her insider-type guy (I bring up Veep because, well, duh), and Saikat politely refused. He offered to help her staff up and get good people in place instead. By April 2019, having got the Green New Deal launched, so to speak, he let her know that he'd be leaving that summer, around the time his daughter was expected. That September, Saikat moved back to San Francisco. One of the first things he did was rejoin think tanks and work on filling out gaps in the Green New Deal. The pandemic hit and he dug his heels in on policy. By the time the 2024 election approached, they were ready to hand something to Kamala Harris if she were to win. Obviously, that didn't happen. He believed those who warned that a Trump victory had bad implications for democracy. But then he watched his own rep in DC, Nancy Pelosi, shrug the 2024 loss off in a "You win some, you lose some" way. He launched his campaign for that seat in Congress "by tweet" in February 2025. Turning from the national to the local, I ask Saikat what San Francisco issues are top of mind for him. He starts with the idea of meeting with and listening to San Franciscans, his would-be constituents: town halls, office hours, mass Zoom meetings … he's already doing a lot of that work. Saikat believes that to begin to effectively address issues at the local level—ICE kidnappings, healthcare, housing, transit—big changes are needed nationally. The California primary election takes place on June 2, 2026. The candidates who come in first and second place in that election will go on to compete in the Midterm election next November. To learn more and get involved, head to Saikat's website—saikat.us. Follow the campaign on Instagram and Threads.

I imagine right about now, the group chats between Hillary Clinton, Neera Tanden, and Huma Abedin are lit. Democratic Socialism is at the gates. Once upon a time, that was their worst nightmare. Now, it's their inevitable reality. If Andrew Cuomo does somehow pull off a miraculous last-minute one-in-a-million win in New York, he will do so without any help from the establishment Democrats. But even a weak endorsement from Hakeem Jeffries for Zohran Mamdani is enough. They know their goose is cooked. Even if they're not happy about it, they have no choice but to go along with it.We wanted to smash the Patriarchy. They wanted to smash the oligarchy.I am old enough to remember how those of us in the I'm With Her army fought viciously with “Bernie bros” throughout the 2016 primary, calling them racists and misogynists, saying they were “useful idiots” for Trump. We wanted to smash the Patriarchy. They wanted to smash the oligarchy. Most of us Hillarycrats were terrified that Democratic Socialism would pull the party too far to the Left and we'd never win an election again. It was the word “socialism,” and no matter how many times they put “Democratic” in front of it, the song remained the same.Maybe we were the last generation forced to read Animal Farm in high school, but we seemed to remember what so many in the Bernie movement had suddenly forgotten. Not only doesn't Communism sell, but it doesn't work. That message never got through, and socialism, Democratic or otherwise, would be like those dinosaur eggs that magically appeared in Jurassic Park. Socialism, like life, finds a way.Look at the Democrats now. They're all in. Even if they weren't, they know better than to say so out loud. They also know they're out of moves. They've had their shot, and all it meant was Trump beating them again. But I still wonder what's going on in those group chats. Does Hillary know that this potentially means the Republicans will rule for much longer? Or does she, like all of the fanatics on the Left, still believe they are just one election away from taking back the country We'd better hope they aren't. Socialist SocialitesYou've heard of Vivek Ramaswamy's Woke Capitalism. Now, meet Woke Socialism —the hybrid of AOC and Bernie, and their Green New Deal manifesto, merging the two ideologies into one complete organism. Zohran Mamdani is their love child, so perfect for today's Left that he almost seems like he was created in a lab.You see them everywhere, these socialist socialites. Somehow, it's become the ultimate pretty girl cred, like “Free Palestine” and “This baby is not yet human.” They like socialism for the same reason they like fat acceptance. As long as homely and otherwise rejected women are allowed in, that gives the pretty girls the freedom to display their beauty without being hated for it. Here are hot girls for Mamdani:We saw this on display at a recent Vogue Hollywood fashion show, populist enough for Gavin Newsom to attend. An array of all designated marginalized and their allies, the virtue signalers, all in one place. It was one big mix of the new Gilded Age and the high-society Woketopians in their finest. Here were two famous transgender models greeted with euphoric cheers. How to reflect social justice while luxuriating in extreme wealth? Just chant Tax the rich! Tax the rich! Tax the rich! That was all AOC needed to abandon her working-class cred to join the high-status Woketopians at the Met Gala. It's its own kind of evangelical grift. But it is the workaround necessary in the totalitarian America promised if the Democrats return to power. We've seen what it looks like. We already know. Obey the rules, or you're banished forever. AOC's gleaming face in that photo has been replaced by an angry one. Her speech at the Mamdani rally was very much an “us vs. them” anthem, and by them, she means you, the majority in America that voted for Trump. There is no escaping the fact that the party about to embrace socialism is the party of wealth and the ruling class. It's an inconvenient detail they all mostly gloss over. Here is Walter Kirn and Matt Taibbi on America This Week:It is no longer Bernie's dream of smashing the oligarchy — they are the oligarchy. The workaround is to make it no longer about class but about race and gender. Then, there are no limits on wealth. The lawn sign people desperately crave the status that comes with being deemed an oppressed group, the highest status attained inside Woketopia. You can borrow oppression by, say, making illegal immigration your most important cause. You can be out there chattering about racists. Accuse, lest ye be accused. And best of all, wealthy and powerful high-status figures like Michelle Obama or Oprah Winfrey can still be oppressed and maintain their status while helping to fund the revolution. Meanwhile, some working-class white man in Wisconsin, unemployed and strung out on fentanyl, is forever the oppressor because they need a constant supply of them — white men, Christians, Jews, and billionaires. Here is Barstool Sports Dave Portnoy:Mamdani must rely on his identity to make wealthy elites feel the same sense of inner purpose we all felt the first time we heard Barack Obama speak. He made us feel worthy because our support of him, just because of his identity, made the country better. We mattered. We were important. We were changing the world. What else does Mamdani have to sell? Sure, he's charming and charismatic. He has a great social media game. He is offering a vision for the future rather than only Trump hate. But I also wonder, could his pitch have worked if he were a normie white dude selling it? It only barely worked for Bernie. How many will heed this warning?Or this:What Mamdani has, like every other designated marginalized group, is protective status inside Woketopia. No one can ever criticize you once you are deemed oppressed because then you get to call them racists, homophobes, transphobes, more phobes, more ists, and even ignite a mob to chase, condemn, and purge the offender. When I hear Mamdani speak, or any Democrat besides John Fetterman, I hear them always choosing to see the worst, to see all the complaints against policies the majority of Americans care about, like crime and the border, the answer is always that they are bad people for caring about their own lives. They are a racist, an Islamaphobe, or a transphobe. Here is the Great White Hope, Gavin Newsom, doing just that on a podcast: Their inability to see beyond that, or for voters to snap out of it and return to the real world, has put them in their most precarious position since the Civil War.Gone with the Wind If you are wondering how the Left was lost or why they are in a hell of their own making, or why they can't snap out of it, or why they seem like every day is the end of the world, look no further than the South during the last Civil War. They did not want to give up their way of life, or their utopia, either. They were happy, and they did not realize the rest of the country wanted to move on. When the North decided slavery would not expand to the states, the South was willing to fight and die to hold onto what once was instead of evolving into what must now be. The Left is so desperate to hold onto their way of life, they are willing to fight to preserve crime in the cities, to open the border and allow all of the migrants to flow freely into America, and for Medicare for all and universal education to pay for them too.It was a fixed hierarchy in the American South, just as there is a fixed hierarchy among today's Left. Just as the South was a contradiction to America's foundational principles, that all men are created equal, so too are today's Democrats a contradiction to America's promise, that class no longer decides success, certainly not gender or skin color, but hard work, merit, and talent do. Obviously, that hasn't always been true for everyone. But it is the whole point of an America at all. Mamdani insists he wants all New Yorkers to live a dignified life. It sounds great, doesn't it? Once you start digging into exactly what he means by that, you realize he's not just talking about economics. He's also talking about thought and speech.Woke socialism is, for the Left, the best of all possible worlds. As long as the marginalized living in poverty are lifted up and elevated, the wealthy ruling class, the Socialist Socialites, can justify their absurdly comfortable lives in a country that has afforded them more wealth and privilege than most will see in their lifetimes. They're hoping that if they keep the government shut down, if they make Americans suffer, then we will have no choice but to abandon the American experiment and lean in to the same failed policies that have so many fleeing from all over the world just for the chance to live here and be free. As Orwell warned in Animal Farm, it is human nature that ultimately upends utopia. Sooner or later, the powerful take control anyway because all animals might be equal, but some animals are more equal than others. Music:Tip Jar This is a public episode. Which industries should cease to exist immediately? And what ‘bullshit jobs' should they take with them? In episode 143 of Overthink, Ellie and David explore the academic and social movement of ‘Degrowth.' They discuss the imperial mode of living that has become normalized in the Global North, explain how it relates to the ‘iron law' of capitalism, and detail how the degrowth movement seeks to build a communist future. In particular, they explore the pillars Kohei Saito's degrowth communism. Why are degrowth scholars such as Saito so critical of the Green New Deal? Was Karl Marx himself a ‘degrower'? And what exactly does it mean to degrow the economy? In the Substack bonus segment, your hosts continue their discussion of the pillars of degrowth, thinking about the benefits abandoning the current division of labor and shortening work hours. You're listening to American Ground Radio with Stephen Parr and Louis R. Avallone. This is the full show for October 1, 2025. 0:30 In a massive Illinois ICE operation called Operation Midway Blitz, over 800 illegal alien criminals were arrested in one coordinated sweep. These weren’t first-time visa overstays. We’re talking about gang members, drug traffickers, sexual predators, and violent offenders—people no community should be forced to live next to. Yet, thanks to Illinois’ sanctuary policies, these criminals were shielded from removal until federal agents stepped in. We break down the operation and why the stakes are so high for Americans and our safety. 9:44 Plus, we cover the Top 3 Things You Need to Know. Democrats voted to shut down the Federal Government last night, repeatedly voting against passing a continuing resolution to keep the government funded through November 7th. The Trump administration is suing LA County in California for violating the 2nd Amendment. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services department announced the results of Operation Twin Shield. 12:30 Get Brain Reward from Victory Nutrition International for 20% off. Go to vni.life/agr and use the promo code AGR20. 13:30 We unpack the new American Pope's criticism of President Donald Trump where he suggested that enforcing immigration laws is somehow at odds with being pro-life. We also dive into the controversy surrounding the Archdiocese of Chicago honoring Senator Dick Durbin, a Catholic politician who openly supports abortion, with a “lifetime achievement award.” 16:30 We ask American Mamas Teri Netterville and Kimberly Burleson about parents who put their kids in travel sports. Are they just living vicariously through their kids? Our American Mamas say there’s a lot more to the story. From the sacrifices families make, to the friendships built on the road, to the competitive edge required just to make a Texas high school team, travel sports can be a pathway to scholarships, memories, and life lessons. If you'd like to ask our American Mamas a question, go to our website, AmericanGroundRadio.com/mamas and click on the Ask the Mamas button. 23:00 In Memphis, President Trump has deployed the National Guard alongside federal agents—working with Tennessee’s Republican Governor Bill Lee—to crack down on violent crime. Within just 48 hours, the operation led to 53 arrests and 20 illegal guns seized. But instead of welcoming the results, Democrats remain silent—or outright protest. Why? We break down why the left won’t credit Trump’s actions, the political games behind crime and safety, and how real families in Memphis are the ones who stand to benefit. 26:45 New voter registration data from Decision Desk HQ reveals a stunning shift: since Election Day last year, over 2.1 million names have been purged from U.S. voter rolls. We Dig Deep into what the numbers really mean, why voter roll maintenance matters, and how the push for automatic registration could be fueling fraudulent enrollments. We also examine why Democrats resist voter ID laws, the risks to election integrity, and how trust in the system erodes when the numbers don’t add up. 32:30 Get NSorb from Victory Nutrition International for 20% off. Go to vni.life/agr and use the promo code AGR20. 33:30 The Biden-era green agenda just took a major hit — and it’s Democrats’ own fault. The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has announced the cancellation of $8 billion in green energy funding, wiping out a huge chunk of what critics call “slush funds for climate activists.” Democrats refused to pass a continuing resolution, betting that a government shutdown would hurt Republicans and President Trump politically. Instead, OMB Director Russ Vought wielded the budget axe — and the cuts landed squarely on the Green New Deal. 36:35 Plus, having a sense of purpose may protect your brain health, and that's a Bright Spot. In new study in the Journal of Geriatric Psychology, researchers found that people who felt their lives had meaning were less likely to develop dementia or Alzheimer’s even if they carried the APOE4 gene, a major risk factor. 40:30 Massive immigration raids are underway in Chicago, and former ICE Director Tom Homan says the strategy is simple: target the cities that resist federal immigration enforcement the most. From Los Angeles to Chicago, so-called “sanctuary cities” have become magnets for illegal immigration, gangs, and crime—and Tom Homan is saying "Whoa!" 42:30 And we finish off with a school community who came together to support their school's security guard. Become a paid subscriber to our newsletter/podcast, The Climate Weekly, to help support this show! It's fun. All the cool kids are doing it! First, the conversation was centered on The Green New Deal. Then, Build Back Better, which turned into the Inflation Reduction Act. It was passed. A few years later, major climate provisions in the bill were repealed. It was fairly popular, but mostly unknown to the average American. So what have we learned? Is it possible to advance major climate policy in America? Our guests today say yes. And they have a new, comprehensive, ambitious plan at the core of their argument. Joining us is Saikat Chakrabarti, co-founder and president of New Consensus and candidate for Congress in the Democratic primary against Nancy Pelosi. Previously, he worked on the 2016 Bernie Sanders presidential campaign, co-founded Justice Democrats, and was the campaign manager and then Chief of Staff to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez where he led the effort to draft and release the Green New Deal. We're also joined by Zack Exley, co-founder and the executive director of New Consensus. Previously, he co-founded Justice Democrats, led the national distributed organizing team on Bernie Sander's 2016 presidential campaign. and helped shape the U.S. Green New Deal. Zack also spearheaded online small-dollar fundraising at MoveOn.org and worked on the Howard Dean and John Kerry campaigns in 2004. In this episode we explore why ambitious policy aims are so critical to the moment, what it means for democracy, how it will combat high electricity bills, and the lessons learned from the Green New Deal. Their plan is Mission For America, which focuses heavily on climate policy to organize a massive plan to grow jobs and lower prices. This is a great conversation. ** You are invited to attend Macro ‘n Chill, our community building online gathering where we discuss the current episode of the podcast. Tuesday, September 23 at 8pm ET/5pm PT Click here to register. Our friend, MMT economist Yeva Nersisyan, joins Steve to discuss the struggle to communicate MMT's core principles in a media landscape filled with misinformation, including from those who should know better. They call some of them out by name and express disappointment when natural allies on the left reject modern monetary theory. “At this point, you cannot just be MMT curious. You have to make up your mind, do you want the ‘scarce money' framework? Is that the way you're going to view the world? Or do you view it through the MMT framework? Because there is no other option.” Yeva and Steve agree that MMT is not a political ideology but a crucial lens for understanding that a monetarily sovereign government is the creator of currency, which means scarcity is serving another purpose – eg, supporting this economic system. They talk about government spending during Covid as a missed opportunity to educate. They criticize so-called progressive politicians (hello Bernie!) who, despite likely understanding MMT, refuse to publicly champion its principles. This leads to self-sabotage (perhaps intentionally?) when they claim to argue for progressive policies within a conservative tax-and-spend agenda. Result? Austerity. As we regularly try to stress, a correct understanding of MMT is no solution, but rather a tool in building a revolutionary class analysis. Dr. Yeva Nersisyan is an associate professor of Economics and Department Chair at Franklin and Marshall College and a research scholar at Levy Economics Institute of Bard College. Professor Nersisyan has published more than 25 journal articles, book chapters, policy notes and policy briefs on the topics of Modern Monetary Theory, fiscal policy, the Green New Deal, and financial instability. She is the editor of the Elgar Companion to Modern Monetary Theory with L. Randall Wray, and her work has appeared in publications such as The Guardian and The Hill. Democrats have pushed some of the most brazen political scandals in modern history—from the Russia collusion hoax, to burying the Hunter Biden laptop, to hiding President Biden's cognitive decline—all in the name of stopping Trump. Victor Davis Hanson exposes how the Left has undermined democracy in the very process of claiming to defend it on today's episode of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “ The problem, James Carville and Democrats, is that you have sabotaged democracy. And you've done things that no one has ever done before to an oppositional candidate, presidential transition, and president. And now you're furious because you're on the 40% side of every issue that's dear to you—from the trans issue to the border issue, to the crime issue, to the Green New Deal issue, to foreign policy. And you have no political power. You don't have the White House, you don't have the Congress, you don't have the Supreme Court. And your institutional power—the media, academia, the foundation—they are under assault.”
If you've ever wondered why the economy feels stuck, even when it seems like there's a lot more money in the system, this episode will blow your mind. Political economist Ann Pettifor joins Nick and Goldy to explain why money isn't flowing like it used to, and why that matters. Over the last century, the velocity of money (how quickly a dollar circulates) has plummeted. Today, each dollar in circulation generates up to 70% less economic activity than it did just ten years ago, so it's not being circulated through the local economies, growing wages, and building small businesses with each transaction. Instead, new dollars are just frozen in place. The culprit? Excess money sitting at the top—hoarded by the wealthy and corporations instead of getting spent. Pettifor shows that taxing the rich isn't just fair—it's pro-growth. Redistribution accelerates the velocity of money, unleashing demand, expanding markets, creating jobs, and ultimately boosting prosperity for everyone. If you're ready to reclaim the economy from its top-down chokehold, this back-to-basics episode isn't optional—it's essential. Ann Pettifor is a British political economist, author, and Director of Policy Research in Macroeconomics (PRIME). Known for correctly predicting the 2008 financial crisis, her work spans sovereign debt, macroeconomics, and sustainable development. She's the author of The Production of Money and The Case for the Green New Deal, and directs groundbreaking research that puts money creation and equitable growth at the center of economic policy. On this week's episode of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words,” Hanson breaks down the party's post-2024 election autopsy and explains why they're doomed to fail if they continue on their trajectory. “ After the defeat of Kamala Harris in November 2024, the Democrats decided recently to run an autopsy, a discovery, so to speak, of why they lost that election. These autopsies are not uncommon for the losing political party, but they only tend to work if you're honest and you try to analyze every considerable factor or criterion without censorship or without fear. “ They didn't have issues and policies that reflected their core values, but would also appeal to the middle class. … They don't want to talk about the middle class because their policies—open borders, The Green New Deal, Critical Race Theory, Critical Legal Theory, defund the police—all that have to be rejected because they're anathema to the middle class. They won't do it.”
It's Thursday, July 31st, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Iran has arrested 54 Christians since ceasefire Article 18 reports that Iran has arrested 54 Christians since it agreed to a ceasefire with Israel on June 24. That's more arrests than the previous six months. Christians in the Middle Eastern country are also facing increased hate speech since Iran's recent conflict with Israel. Many are seeking to paint Christians as co-conspirators with Israel. Article18's executive director, Mansour Borji, commented, “We are very concerned for the well-being of all Iranian Christians … considering the past misuse of pseudo-legal provisions … to justify violence and punitive measures against this vulnerable community.” Hebrews 13:3 says, “Remember the prisoners as if chained with them—those who are mistreated—since you yourselves are in the body also.” Russia rocked by 8.8-magnitude earthquake One of the largest earthquakes ever recorded struck Russia's far east coast yesterday morning. The 8.8-magnitude quake sent tsunami waves at Russia and Japan. The waves also reached parts of Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast. Millions of people were told to seek high ground. However, authorities downgraded their warnings after the threat of major tsunami waves subsided. Russia experienced some damage but reported no casualties. China launches nationwide childcare subsidy China launched its first nationwide subsidy for childcare on Monday. The government will offer families 3,600 yuan per year for each child under the age of three. That's the equivalent to about $500 per child. The central government is also urging local authorities to introduce free preschool education. China is introducing these measures at it continues to suffer population decline as the result of its previous one-child policy. America's fertility rate drops to new low Meanwhile, in the United States, the fertility rate dropped to a new low in 2024. New data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found the fertility rate fell to 1.6 children per woman last year. The fertility rate declined for females in age groups 15-34, remained unchanged for women ages 35-39, and increased for women ages 40-44. U.S. economy grew by 3% The U.S. economy grew better than expected during the second quarter of this year. The Commerce Department reported gross domestic product increased at an annual rate of three percent during April, May, and June. That's up from a 0.5% decrease during the first quarter. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, calling for lower interest rates. He wrote, “2Q GDP JUST OUT: 3%, WAY BETTER THAN EXPECTED! . . . MUST NOW LOWER THE RATE. No Inflation! Let people buy, and refinance, their homes!” Obama-era climate regulation justified $1 trillion in regulations The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has proposed to rescind the 2009 Endangerment Finding. The Obama-era finding has been used for climate regulations like those on motor vehicle emissions. It justified over $1 trillion in regulations, including the Biden administration's electric vehicle mandate. Republican U.S. Congressman Mark Messmer of Indiana said, “The Endangerment Finding has long been a Democrat tool to issue burdensome regulations that ignore commonsense science in pursuit of radical Green New Deal aligned agendas. I applaud … the entire Trump Administration for making sure we cut the red tape that is unnecessarily impeding American business.” Adultery, cloning humans, suicide, and polygamy still considered morally wrong Gallup released their latest poll on Americans' opinions of the moral acceptability of 20 behaviors. The vast majority of U.S. adults still believe adultery, cloning humans, suicide, and polygamy are morally wrong. Respondents were more divided on abortion. Most Americans believe birth control, divorce, and premarital sex are morally acceptable. These findings are generally similar to last year. However, views of the moral acceptability of abortion and “changing one's gender” are down compared to last year. Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.” 250 years of U.S. Army Chaplains And finally, U.S. Army Chaplains celebrated 250 years of ministry this month. On July 29, 1775, the Continental Congress granted the request of General George Washington to establish an official position for military chaplains. Since then, there have been 25,000 Army chaplains. Three thousand currently serve in the U.S. Army. Listen to comments from Senior Army Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Ludovic Foyou made at Arlington National Cemetery. FOYOU: “Today marks 250 years of the US Army Chaplain Corps. That is 250 years of ministry alongside the brave, praying with the dying, walking with the wounded, and standing watch with those who bear the burden of defense. “Two and a half centuries of ministry in boots, of comfort offered besides cots, of prayers whispered beneath helmets, in tents and trenches deserts and jungles and now across the world. “It is ministry like no other one, forged in the very crucible of conflict, yet rooted in the deepest well of hope, mercy and calling.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, July 31st, in the year of our Lord 2025. In her new book Apocalyptic Authoritarianism: Climate Crisis, Media, and Power, University of Toronto media scholar Hanna E. Morris argues that whether they realize it or not, some climate journalists, obsessed with preserving a self-determined “moderate center,” are deploying some of the same tropes and reinforcing some of the same narratives as the extreme right. Even as they see themselves defending democracy and confronting the climate crisis, these media elites might be contributing to a prize sought by both the MAGA right and the fossil fuel industry: Preventing the emergence of a hopeful, democratic, and class-defying movement against climate change. Earlier this month, Morris spoke with Drilled about the who gets to choose which climate solutions are “right” and which ones are “wrong,” what the media's divergent treatment of the Green New Deal and the Inflation Reduction Act reveals about its entrenched biases, and why a sense of fatalism and inevitability seems to pervade so much mainstream climate coverage. We are hearing endless excuses as to why the signature budget bill is not achieving its stated goals. The most prevalent excuse is that lawmakers don't have the votes for conservative legislation. Well, if that is true, it's because of people like Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), who pushed for Green New Deal subsidies in the bill. So why is there no unified effort to remove people like her who will stand for re-election next year? We're joined by our first primary challenger of the year, former Iowa state Senator Jim Carlin, who is running for U.S. Senate. He has been part of the grassroots effort to fight the Green New Deal land-grabs in Iowa and to elect better members to the legislature. He shows how Joni Ernst is the very embodiment of what everyone hates about corporatist Republicans and duplicitous campaign promises dying on the altar of special-interest politics. We cover his vision for Iowa landowners, medical freedom, and fixing the military-industrial complex. We will find out who truly believes in defeating RINOs and who is just in this business to make money. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Speaking at a Wednesday news conference, Johnson condemned President Donald Trump's decision to deploy federal troops to help control the riots in Los Angeles, which were triggered by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in the city. The mayor referred to the federal crackdown as a “war on our culture” and urged city residents to take action, the Tribune reported. “Abundance,” the book I co-wrote with Derek Thompson, hit bookstore shelves a little over a month ago, and the response has been beyond anything I could have imagined. And it's generated a lot of interesting critiques, too, especially from the left. So I wanted to dedicate an episode to talking through some of them.My guests today are both on the left but have very different perspectives. Zephyr Teachout is a law professor at Fordham University and one of the most prominent voices in the antimonopoly movement. Saikat Chakrabarti is the president and co-founder of New Consensus, a think tank that has been trying to think through what it would take to build at Green New Deal scale and pace. And he is currently running to unseat Nancy Pelosi in Congress.I found this conversation wonderfully clarifying — both in the places it revealed agreement, and perhaps even more in the places it revealed difference.Mentioned:“How the Gentry Won: Property Law's Embrace of Stasis” by David Schleicher and Roderick M.
