Happy post Easter! This one came from my friend Andi (although I had been sitting on it for a minute waiting for the perfect opportunity to use it in the podcast). We both felt that Easter was that opportunity. One of the things I love about this movie is that it chooses to focus on how Jesus preached love and compassion for everyone by having him be a total bad ass who saves the lesbians who are being targeted by vampires even if the movie is pretty bad. It's so bad that it's good. I enjoyed watching this one. Episode notes are on the website, so check them out.

Spy season continues with Weng Weng, international little person of mystery. A parody of the Bond franchise, For Y’ur Height Only brings us quick and dirty filmmaking and a script that just gives up at some point. “Hey, it’s a parody, do we need to explain this or that? Nah.” This week we’re joined by friend and regular Arden to talk about this Filipino martial artist, his film, bad edits, repetitive music, awful stunts, worse dialogue, and nipples. Show notes usually contain references to characters, people, films, or jokes we make about the movie we’re reviewing. There’s not a lot of notes for this film because it is just BONKERS. Arden, Paul, and Chris are lost in the script by Cora Caballas or the dubbing possibly done by Dick Randall. We learn that Verne Troyer was actually shorter than Weng Weng. Arden continues to drop history on us as we discuss Weng Weng’s ties to his karaoke buddy Imelda Marcos. The John Woo slide. We have to apologize for the all the talk about peperoni nipples this season. This film and Masters of the Universe had lengthy scenes of men without their shirts on. There’s no shame in nipples or shirtless men or podcasts, right? Sadly, Arden that is not Cesar Romero in this Filipino film. Hey, my dialogue needs something extra. What can I do? How about a nursery rhyme? So there’s actual dialogue in the film from Rub-a-dub-dub in a gangster scene about drugs? Weng Weng will Have a Coke and a Smile. Is it a Manila Coke or the evil New Coke? Look at me, I’m Mary Frickin’ Poppins, y’all! The best James Bond film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, starring George Lazenby is referenced in Erma’s death. So, it’s bad. Can we watch another one though? D’Wild Wild Weng? Paul wants to know if the thumb-high-five is a cultural thing we don’t understand or a Tim Cook and Bono awkward moment. Chris shares the story of why Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter has never been on the podcast. What about Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter? A film that was successful as parody of a cult classic and has become a cult classic itself is Black Dynamite. Michael Jai White’s next cult send up that is coming out is called The Outlaw Johnny Black. Random Lou Diamond Phillips reference. Paul’s favorite movie of the season is still Masters of the Universe. Thanks for listening to our mouth sound effects and we send you all virtual thumb touches. Until next time. From Wakaliwood comes Uganda's first action movie! This is Uganda! Yeah Yeah Yeah Okay! Commandos! Tiger Mafia! Tiger Mafia Commandos! VJ Emmie on the mic! So yeah, we make fun of it. Who Killed Captain Alex is one of the cleverly disguised as crap, but actually smarter b-movies we've reviewed on the show. We found the plot to be fairly conventional while watching the movie until the last 3 frames and we released that we had been duped. This was no common hyper-budget action movie. Nothing out of Vietnam, Philippines, or Mexico writes like this. Its absolutely riffing on the entire genre in the vain of The OP, Turbo-Kid, and Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter. The hook is so subtle despite it being the title of the damn movie. Nothing looks as good as Who Killed Captain Alex does....on a $200 budget. The film-makers REALLY stretched their budget and that is completely part of its charm. Admiring their costumes, props (especially the guns that they craft from found-materials) and the sets is all part of the experience and puts a small on the face of anyone who has tried to make their own budget movie. The VERY best part of enjoying CA is how much fun everyone involved is having. Its clear that underneath any acting face is a giant grin. Everyone is having a blast at making this movie and it's well deserved that its now seen across the globe. Fantastic. We have 1 warning - VJ Emmie (the Video Hall riffer that runs throughout the film) is a little tough to take at first, but by the end of the movie, you learn the experience wouldn't be the same without him.  Thanks Wakaliwood!

I considered calling this episode "Jesus Christ Supershow," but it seemed a little on the nose. It's a slightly short episode. but I cover a lot of ground. In addition to obviously talking about Jesus Christ Superstar, I also talk about some of my other favorite secular-produced works about Jesus. In addition, I talk about stuff I've recently been watching on TV including Man Down, Splitting Up Together, and the WWE. I liked doing this one. Hope you enjoy listening to it! Time indexes: 0:00 - Intro Stuff 3:46 - Music Break #1 - "Not So Middle Life Crisis" off my "Trigger Warnings and Sunshine" album 4:16 - Stuff I've recently watched on TV. I talk about Man Down, Splitting Up Together, and Wrestling at length and also mention Deadliest Catch 18:38 - Music Break 2 - "Nobody Has It All" from The Wayne County EP 19:06 - Discussion of my favorite pop-culture stuff involving Jesus Christ, with particular attention paid to Jesus Christ Superstar, along with a defense of secular art about Christ in general. Breaking it down further... - 19:30 - Jesus Christ Superstar - 34:18 - The Last Temptation of Christ - 36:00 - Music from The Velvet Underground and Big Star - 36:48 - Dogma - 38:22 - Alice Cooper's stage show - 40:45 - Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter - 41:24 - Punk Rock Jesus And I say some other stuff too, probably. Hey, what podcasts are we listening to? Paul digs on some TWiT and Chris just found Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast. How do you listen to podcasts? Chris uses Podcast Addict on Android and Paul is using Overcast. The first movie we’ll be giving the business to is A Boy and His Dog. Is this the scifi Lassie or Old Yeller? Movie two: Zardoz. Yikes, where do we start? Watch where you put that fun finger. Dr. Goldfoot & the Bikini Machine starring Vincent Price. “It seemed like a good idea?” That’s the tag line for The Thing With Two Heads and no doubt what we’ll be saying about this movie choice. Is Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter worthy of watching? More than one person has suggested Gymkata. Chris saw the trailer for Big Ass Spider and is very curious. ¡Bienvenidos a nuestro trigésimo segundo programa, nuestra season finale! ¡A ver quién gana!
