Introduction To A Hardening Of The Humanities

There is no way, at present, to quantify the social sciences, because they rely on narrative descriptions. But if we study Scripture, it provides a path by which the humanities can be hardened. Under the present view of reality, the law of the jungle reigns. This is the notion that might makes right. The author argues that true rights and justice cannot be founded on historical power dynamics but rather on a rejection of the law of the jungle and adherence to divine principles. The essay emphasizes the importance of actions over appearances in the Christian faith and suggests that the true value of work can be measured through the Biblical concept of the Labor Theory of Value, which quantifies all human endeavors as an expenditure of labor. Because all work is a form of labor and labor can be measured, there is a path towards the quantification of the social sciences.

The concept of a single North American economic zone necessitates a free-market system where goods and services are priced based on labor inputs, devoid of state-imposed premiums, and governed by the labor theory of value. This essay is critical of the state's role in property rights and regulatory licencing, advocating for a theocratic approach where the church holds property for believers to access according to their specializations within twelve economic sectors. These sectors, each functioning as a ministry, are responsible for the welfare and job provision of their members, transcending political boundaries but organized into twelve geographical administrative units. This essay advocates for the reconfiguring of the North American economy into a free market structure based solely on the Labor Theory of Value.

Kinsella on Liberty Podcast: Episode 452. I was asked recently to guest lecture for a course taught to some mechanical engineering students at Colorado University Boulder (EMEN 4100: Engineering Economics) by the lecturer, David Assad. Assad covers some ethics related matters in the latter part of the course and asked me to talk generally about ethics and related matters. I discussed ethics, morality, politics, and science. I discussed ethics and its relationship to science and politics, and discussed about what science is, the types of sciences, ethics and ethical theories and the relationship to specialized ethics and morality in general, and its relationship to political ethics and political philosophy. I then discussed libertarianism in general, the nature and function of property rights, and then explained how the intellectual property issue can be addressed based on the libertarian and private law perspective. The film won an Academy Award for Best Documentary, and Corey himself declared it "one of the best documentaries ever made." There is a lot to discuss, from the career of director Barbara Kopple to the 1968 and 1972 UMWA elections to the ins-and-outs of a strike to the heroism of the strikers and their wives to Marx's Law of Value (a.k.a. Kinsella on Liberty Podcast: Episode 415. Last year Larken Rose and I appeared on Patrick Smith's Disenthrall show, (( See KOL389 | Disenthrall, with Patrick Smith and Larken Rose: The Morality of Copyright “Piracy”. )) after Rose had posted some videos criticizing libertarians who pirated the HBO show "The Anarchists" as "poopheads," (( See "Pirating" Poopheads. )) even though he technically opposes IP. Or claims to. According to Rose, you should "throwing a couple dollars towards HBO" or something, to avoid being a poophead. He granted that someone pirating an already-leaked video file is not committing aggression (they have no contract with the creator), but they are a "jerk." Or "poop head." After all, the "creator" of the "content" put his "labor" into it and didn't "want it" to be pirated. And his "business model" depends on people "not pirating it." (( See KOL037 | Locke's Big Mistake: How the Labor Theory of Property Ruined Political Theory. )) https://youtu.be/Gt3eZBrXcyE Or something. So you are a "poophead" if you mess up their unrealistic business model. In response, I pointed out that if your goal is to produce content—audio, videos, books, etc.—to promote liberty, then you are a "jerk" if you try to paywall it and make it hard for people to access, since you are limiting your content to only rich westerners. Larken was alarmed by this observation and called me a commie, even though I never said you don't have a right to erect a paywall; only that, if you can say someone engaged in the peaceful behavior of "piracy" (( Itself a dishonest, loaded term. See Stop calling patent and copyright “property”; stop calling copying “theft” and “piracy”. )) is a "jerk," then I can say someone who is pretending to be engaged in trying to spread the ideas of liberty is intentionally blocking people from seeing it, they are also subject to criticism. This apparently blew his mind. When I challenged him, he literally conceded that poor Africans who pirate a video, even if they could never afford to pay for it, are being "jerks." (Listen from around 28 to 31 minutes.) Unbelievable. Well now he's back on this theme. Apparently he's involved in some libertarian film Jones Plantation, what appears to be a low-budget libertarian film along the lines of J. Neil Schulman's Alongside Night or the Atlas Shrugged trilogy; let's hope it's better than those (which were both terrible; see this hilarious evisceration of Alongside Night, which seems to have gotten more views than the movie itself). (I intend to buy a copy—yes, buy a copy—and watch it later.) (Pettifogging, well akshually alert: it's not really "buying" a "copy" in a (libertarian) legal sense, since you can't own information; but it's paying a price to get access to a file download. See "Selling Does Not Imply Ownership, and Vice-Versa—A Dissection," in my forthcoming Legal Foundations of a Free Society—which, yes, will be made available free online; no paywalls, baby.) [Update: as I tweeted, I bought a copy and watched it—and it's surprisingly good! Not the Alongside Night-style disaster I was expecting.] I did this response video to elaborate some aspects of IP and libertarian theory that many people are confused about. My video response took longer than expected so I broke this into three parts. Parts 2 and 3 to follow. Update: See also Patrick Smith's Disenthrall episode commenting on this matter and also on Eric July's use of DMCA takedowns regarding images from his comics appearing on Twitter, etc. https://youtu.be/8HIoVU3n-bU And one more thing. As I wrote to some friends: Another point just occurred to me, which I forgot to mention in my 150-minute screed. It is this. Larken says he's against copyright and that he would never enforce it, right? So in the movie, does he have a copyright notice, or not? Does he have a statement saying "I don't believe in copyright so would never sue pirates, but I'm not gonna make it easy for you—I'm pay...

WARNING: If you listen to this podcast to the end your world view will change in a substantial and life altering manner. For 6000 years we have been lied to about who man is, what divides us, what competition is about and many other things. You will learn there is no identifiable human race, there is no common identity or factor that defines what makes us humans. Human beings are a divided kind. The divide is deeper and more permanent than you can imagine. Every problem you can think of was created because of this division and cannot be ended until this division is recognized for what it is. When finished you will understand where the division is and why it exists and why it cannot be bridged; what has caused our human problems and how to eliminate them without risk or threats of loss, how to put into place the Labor Theory of Value, how to build a church that replaces the political system and all of its laws and associated problems, how to end poverty, unemployment, inflation and mankind's other social problems, all of this is doable and more and all during a fifteen minute video/podcast.

Dr. Roemer is quite interesting, to say the least. He received his bachelor's degree from Harvard and went to U.C. Berkeley for his graduate degree, but was suspended for his political activity against the Vietnam War. After spending time teaching, he would eventually return to Berkeley to finish his Ph.D. in economics in 1974. He is currently the Elizabeth S. and A. Varick Stout Professor of Political Science and Economics at Yale University, and a Fellow at the Econometric Society as well as the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has contributed to numerous economic journals on topics such as labor economics, political competition, and climate change. In addition to his journals, Dr. Roemer has published numerous books such as "Free to Lose," "A General Theory," and "A Future of Socialism." All revolve around inequality and its relation to the political economy. Together with Dr. Roemer, we discussed the rise of Bernie Sanders, issues with Marx's Labor Theory of Value, and how redistribution can take the form of more than welfare programs. Dr. George Grant joins Nathan and I to discuss the labor theory of value. Typically used as a cajole by marxists against capitalists, this theory has been the subject of much debate over the centuries. Dr. Grant brings us into an enlightening discussion tracing this idea from its origins with Adam Smith through Karl Marx, through Antonio Gramsci, to a rich Biblical application for today.   Dr. Grant: www.georgegrant.net   New College Franklin Newcollegefranklin.edu   Good Fight Outfitters Www.goodfightoutfitters.com   All things Christ and Capital:  ———————-SUBSCRIBE https://linktr.ee/Christ_and_Capital   Merch https://www.christandcapital.com/apparel       ————————————————————————————————     Music By: SUNDANCE Track Title: Persephone - Retro Funky Creation: SUNDANCE (Remix) My additions: clips from Jay Richards, Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, Gary Vaynerchuk, Jeff Durbin, and Gary North.

This is not a misprint nor a contradiction. Capitalism is an institution normally considered on the right but in fact it cannot exist without the intervention of the state. Any movement to produce a more conservative nation must think twice about trying to build on the foundation of capitalism. The elimination of socialism requires the elimination of capitalism and only a business model based on a free market that works without the existence of the state can do this. The alternative economic model is discussed as an Exchange. Based on the Labor Theory of Value and producing a true free market, Exchanges eliminate all social costs or what is called freeloading or what economists refer to as externalized costs.

The Remnant with Jonah Goldberg

Today, Jonah is joined by Virginia Postrel – former editor-in-chief of Reason magazine and author of many of the latter-day holy tomes of libertarianism, such as The Future and Its Enemies – to talk about her new book, The Fabric of Civilization. Virginia and Jonah do a deep dive into several moments in which the changes in textile manufacturing created giant, revolutionary, consciousness-shifting ripple effects regarding how civilizations viewed their relationship to markets and the economy. In particular, Virginia addresses how the un-guilded spinners of Europe were like the Luddites before it was cool, why textile-making would be one of the most laborious processes in the world without advanced technologies, and what made cotton fabric from India so special that “the French treated it much the same as the American government treats cocaine.” At least that kind of wild protectionism confirms a long-held American instinct: Never trust the French.   Show Notes: -Virginia’s book, The Fabric of Civilization: How Textiles Made the World -“Isaiah’s Job” -Our first episode with Matt Ridley (on technical innovation) -Our second episode with Matt Ridley (on more technical innovation) -Virginia at Volokh Conspiracy: The textile industry’s relationship to literacy -The salaries of spinners may be higher than one thinks -The High Sparrow and the Labor Theory of Value -Some bits from “The Bad Polanyi” on ancient Assyria -Virginia talks about Indian cotton prints See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Having read the Communist Manifesto and most of Das Kapital, it is apparent where Marx goes wrong right off the bat. All of his thought is littered with bad logic, but most of all, it is built on the improper understanding of what it means to be human. Today, we'll look at where he goes wrong in his thinking and what this bad logic leads to. -Karl Marx"Men's ideas are the most direct emanations of their material state." Marx's premise is off to begin with. He begins from a materialist assumption. He praises science while denying many of the major tenets that allow for the modern scientific process. In his denial of the immaterial part of the human being, he denies the possibility of beauty, truth, and love - each of which is a product of a mind that emanates from a person with a soul. He then goes on to poorly apply this premise with other German philosophers' work to create a new way of studying history that is built on the assumption that all of history is on a track toward "progress." Thus, we ought to understand all of history as a journey toward some end constantly progressing towards progress (though this is never really clarified). Because that is the course of history, it is our duty to comply with or propel progress, just as we wouldn't try to fight the effects of gravity as it pulls a piano from the 5th story toward our head as we walk below. This allows for the conclusion that complies with this theory to be accepted, no matter how faulty the logic that precedes it. A few major flaws in the economic theory: Labor Theory of Value Value of goods when exchanged Theory of Money and Capital Ten Planks of the Communist Manifesto: Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax. Abolition of all right of inheritance. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels. Centralization of credit in the hands of the State, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly. Centralization of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the State. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State; the bringing into cultivation of waste-lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan. Equal liability of all to labour. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of the distinction between town and country, by a more equable distribution of the population over the country. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labour in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, &c., &c. Let's level set; Art of value - When you say value, what do you mean? I'm sure it's not 'the cheapest in town'. - The value a customer will receive or achieve as a result of doing business with you. Must focus on the end result. What prompted you to take such a large departure from the standard time and materials business model? - Not every customer is open to having a great conversation... - What's most important is outcome. Everything I do should be focused on that outcome and is significant. We should be moving the needle. - Bad customers drive out good customers... Courage to drive them out early... How do you introduce the concept of value pricing to the client? - Guide the conversation with great questions. - Not every customer is open to having great conversations. - What's most important is the outcome you're seeking. I'm really interested in doing work that moves the needle - 10% or more. - Not every customer is a great fit / good customer. If you load yourself up with bad customers, you'll drive out the good ones. In your transition to a Value Based business model, did you think about turning back, going more traditional? Tell us about the circumstances that pushed you to the breaking point? - Early in your business or if you are in a slow time you're going to feel major pressure to 'cave'. This is not a pressure that ends, it will be revisited many times over the year. - Have a process for transitioning over 6-12 months. How does the concept of value play out through the customer life cycle - marketing, sales, service, retention. - Interviewed Joanie Newkirk, Author of Brilliant Price Hike, about Disney raising prices in the 2000's. Listen here. - Consolidated all pricing into one department. - Abundance mindset rather than zero sum game of the scarcity mindset. I've talked to you mostly about value in the context of selling based on value. I'm currently selling to large organizations, as do many of our listeners. I don't have total control over my business model, like an entrepreneur running my own company. How do you see these concepts playing out in this environment? - Business model is based on a philosophy of how the world works. Charging for your time is based on Marxist Theory, Labor Theory of a Value, Sum of everything ti took to build it. - Versus Subjective Theory of Value. where value is in the eyes of the customer. - Hourly billing requires a calculator. The history of economic thought regarding the concept of value is "a tale of two theories". The Labor Theory of Value states that value is equal to the sum of the labor and materials to create something. The Subjective Theory of value states that value is the perception in the mind of the customer. Ron Baker and Ed Kless discuss these theories from chapter 8 of Ron's book Pricing on Purpose. Kinsella on Liberty Podcast, Episode 037. [Transcript.] I spoke last weekend at one of the best events I've ever been part of: the "Liberty in the Pines" (facebook event) conference at Stephen F. Austin State University, in Nacogdoches, Texas. Sponsored by the Young Americans for Liberty chapter and the Charles Koch Foundation, this one-day event brought together liberty-lovers of all stripes from surrounding areas. My speech was "Locke’s Big Mistake: How the Labor Theory of Property Ruined Political Theory."  Stefan Molyneux and Jeff Tucker appeared and delivered speeches as well (with Jeff's inspiring keynote resulting in a resounding standing ovation). Walter Block conducted an "Ask a Libertarian" Q&A session (remotely), and relative newcomer Jessica Hughes delivered a surprisingly radical and resounding speech on "The Constitution of Faux Authority." [Update: See Liberty in the Pines Roundup.] This podcast episode includes my speech and Q&A (about 54 minutes) plus the panel Q&A (about another 50 minutes). The panel Q&A touched on issues like peaceful parenting, spanking, and so on. Not to toot my own horn, but I know I have a lot of a/v material out there, so I do believe this speech of mine is one of the most important I've ever done. Update: See Stephen Decker's report on the event.
