Moving from school to college or college to the first job marks significant milestones that shape our habits and preferences. This transition spawns the creation of new habits, both positive and negative, exemplified by choices such as smoking, drinking, and romance. These phases offer fertile ground for brands to establish themselves as part of these transformative experiences, thereby becoming ingrained in consumers' lives. The team at Nescafe used this insight to position coffee as the quintessential emblem of adulthood. As individuals traverse from one life stage to another, coffee emerges as a symbolic initiation into the world of grown-ups. Power of Emotional Engagement in Tech Brands Contrary to popular belief, technology-driven products are not devoid of emotion. Emotions find their place even in the realm of tech products, albeit in a different form. The key lies in crafting emotional connections that resonate with consumers.Successful tech branding hinges on establishing relevance, credibility, and trust. Ask Nestle: Personalized Nutrition for Moms Nestle's journey into personalized nutrition for mothers offers a striking example of how brands can address specific consumer needs and aspirations. Ask Nestle provided personalized nutrition plans to cater to individual preferences and regional dietary habits. This involved creating a content machinery that delivers scientifically accurate and cost-effective information. Lakme: Reviving the Essence of Seductive Beauty Revitalizing a brand's essence required a multi-pronged approach encompassing fundamental improvements, effective training, and compelling communication. This involved strengthening the brand's foundation by training beauty advisors and enhancing product knowledge. It also meant reinventing packaging and crafting impactful communication to resonate with consumers' emotions. Marketing, Advertising and Media, Product positioning, Pricing, Sales, Cost Management, and company values are some broad ingredients that come together to form the success of the company. Nine out of 10 Indian households use HUL products – they are quite affiliated to Dove, Lakme, Lifebuoy, Clinic Plus, Vim, and others, which are indeed, blindly used by consumers sometimes without even knowing that these brands belong to HUL. This is the kind of quality engagement that is expected out of brands. An important aspect of this success is HUL's approach to advertising. It spends a whopping Rs. 3,500 crores on advertising and accounts for about 20% of the country's ads on TV. This is because HUL believes that advertising is important and a senior person must lead the entire process right from the brief to its production. The idea stands, whether the person chooses to consult with other members or not. In the end, the advertising leader is the one single decision-maker. On that positive note, this is Priya signing off, until next time Bye!
Vanakam friends this EPISODE is all about india's first cosmetic brand LAKME in tamil, hope you like this. Lakmé is an Indian cosmetics brand which is owned by Hindustan Unilever. Having Kareena Kapoor and Chamma as the ambassador, it ranked at number 1 among the cosmetics brands in India. Lakme started as a 100% subsidiary of Tata Oil Mills (Tomco). It was named after the French opera Lakmé, which itself is the French form of devi Lakshmi (the Hindu goddess of wealth) who is renowned for her beauty. It was started in 1952 famously, because then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was concerned that Indian women were spending precious foreign exchange on beauty products and personally requested JRD Tata to manufacture them in India. Simone Tata joined the company as director and went on to become the chairperson. In 1996, Tata sold off their stakes in Lakmé Lever to HUL, for Rs 200 Crore (45 million US$). In the Brand Trust Report 2012, Lakme was ranked 104th among India's most trusted brands and following year it was ranked 71st on the list. In 2014, Lakme was ranked 36th among India's most trusted brands according to the Brand Trust Report 2014.[7] The company is the title sponsor for Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) a bi-annual fashion event which takes place in Mumbai. Disclaimer: This is a very endearing episode, with a profusion of giggles and exclamations. A year ago, co-founder of Shivan and Narresh, Narresh Kukreja joined host and ex-intern, Ilina Luthra in a nonchalant tête-à-tête about their exposure to international competitions - everything before the Netflix production, Next In Fashion - becoming India's front runners in swimwear design (a market most thought didn't exist) and taking other bold steps in Fashion.

Residing in New York, making her mark in Los Angeles, and hailing from a small town in Nebraska, Marylou Luther is a fashion industry legend. She had little exposure to fashion when she began her career at The Lincoln Journal and The Des Moines Register. Fast forward forty years and she became the Creative Director of Fashion Group International, Editor of the International Fashion Syndicate, CFDA Award winner, syndicated Clotheslines columnist and more. “Marylou’s bi-annual, ready-to-wear trend report for FGI — narrated in her signature authoritative, sophisticated voice, sets the seasonal tone with her much anticipated summaries. It’s no wonder her trend reports are followed by industry professionals in 28+ regions all over the world.” Marylou and I have our own special story of how we crossed paths. We met in 2009 at Lakmé Fashion Week in Mumbai, India, and when we got to chatting, we discovered we both have ties to CNN (I was Chief Fashion Correspondent for the CNN affiliate in India; her son Walter has been an acclaimed video journalist for the bureau in New York for the past 30 years), have a penchant for Parisian cuisine, prefer our coffee with a spoonful of vanilla ice cream, and are members of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Long lost sorority sisters (nearly sixty years apart) meeting for the first time in India? We think there’s only one word to describe it – “serendipity.” I am so thankful to have my 88-year-old gal pal, mentor, and soul sister in my life. Cheers to you, Marylou! CARMEN is probably the most popular opera ever composed. Alas, this masterpiece was the final work of Georges Bizet, who died a few weeks after its dismal world premiere. Seattle Opera Dramaturg Jonathan Dean discusses Bizet’s genius and career with Assistant Conductor Phil Kelsey, who also contributes musical examples at the piano. Dean and Kelsey consider THE PEARL FISHERS, LA JOLIE FILLE DE PERTH, DJAMILEH, Bizet’s “Chanson d’Avril,” and CARMEN, plus operas by Bizet’s contemporaries, including LAKMÉ by Léo Délibes and SAMSON ET DALILAH by Camille Saint-Saëns. An extended quote from the Memoirs of Céleste Venard, aka La Mogador, is read by Ginger Costa-Jackson.
Concert clarinetist and soprano saxophone player, Chris Elchico joins Steven Leavitt to talk about his experience being a classical musician, music teacher, and local coffee shop barista. Chris discusses the role of the classical musician, and what it's like playing with a quartet with members that live across the US. After getting his bachelors from UCLA and his masters from Indiana University in saxophone and clarinet, and studying under renowned LA Philharmonic player Burt Hara, Chris began the process of auditioning for orchestras across the US. He talks about the harrowing process of auditioning behind a screen where the judges base their critique on his sound alone. In 2012, Chris and his quartet won a trip around the world, performing at Notre Dame and ending up in Italy. “It was like living the dream, for 12 days.” He and Steve discuss what it's like to come back to “real life” and the daily grind, but it's apparent that Chris' kindness and positive attitude about life is one of the reasons he makes his successes look so unimposing. Chris is a soft spoken, compassionate person who uses his innate skills of empathy and listening to excel in his jobs as a barista, music teacher, and classical musician. Although many international make-up brands have now firmly established themselves in the Indian market, Lakme still remains one of the top players in the field. Here is brief story of this first make in India make up brand.
In this episode of Opera for Everyone we listen to Lakme, an opera in three acts by Léo Delibes to a French libretto by Edmond Gondinet and Philippe Gille. The score, written in 1881-2, was first performed on in 1883 by the Opéra-Comique in Paris. The story is set in British India in the mid-19th century, Lakmé is based on Théodore Pavie's story "Les babouches du Brahamane" and novel "Le Mariage de Loti" by Pierre Loti. The opera includes the popular Flower Duet (Sous le dôme épais) performed in Act 1 by Lakmé, the daughter of a Brahmin priest, and her servant Mallika. The name Lakmé is the French rendition of Sanskrit Lakshmi, the name of the Hindu Goddess of Wealth. The opera's most famous aria is the Bell Song (L'Air des clochettes) in Act 2. Like other French operas of the period, Lakmé captures the ambience of the Orient seen through Western eyes, which was periodically in vogue during the latter part of the 19th century and in line with other operatic works such as Bizet's The Pearl Fishers and Massenet's Le roi de Lahore.[3] The subject of the opera was suggested by Gondinet as a vehicle for the American soprano Marie van Zandt.
In Ep. 5, The Life of Fritz Kreisler, pt. I tells the story of Vienna's greatest violinist, Fritz Kreisler, from birth to his marriage in the beginning of the 20th century. His rise to fame was an eventful one and we will see him grow from a normal little boy into a first rate wunderkind. Following the glories of his youth, Kreisler will give up the violin to pursue the medical arts and also do a bit of soldering. But in the end, the call of music was too great and he set his sights once more on a career as a virtuoso violinist. ---------------- For all things GCP Please rate, review, and subscribe on iTunes! Lyric soprano Danielle de Niese was a star performer at Last Night of the Proms 2015. It was another milestone in this Australian-born American star's glittering career. Growing up, Danielle won various talent and television competitions and debuted at New York's prestigious Metropolitan Opera House when she was 19 years old. She says she knew she wanted to sing opera from the age of eight. Described as "opera's coolest soprano", Danielle is best known for her performances of Handel, Mozart, baroque music, as well as her reality TV shows, including The Diva Diaries. South African soprano Pretty Yende discovered opera by chance. She was 16 years old and watching a television advertisement for an airline, which featured The Flower Duet, from the opera Lakme by Léo Delibes. Pretty fell in love with the sound and instantly wanted to imitate it. She went to be classically trained at Cape Town University and then got a place at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala, in Milan. In 2011 Pretty won first prize in Placido Domingo's Operalia competition and two years later she shot to fame when, at short notice, she had to stand in to perform Countess Adele in Rossini's opera, Le Comte Ory. This was Pretty's Metropolitan Opera House debut. (Picture: Opera singers Danielle de Niese (left) and Pretty Yende. Credits: Chris Dunlop/Kim Fox)

Sue Lawley's castaway this week is Britain's most popular writer of historical fiction Bernard Cornwell. His work has sold more than five million copies in nine languages. His most famous character is the rifleman Richard Sharpe - an embittered, slightly villainous career soldier whose fortunes are followed through the late 18th century and early 19th. Cornwell's journey to writing was a long one. He was born in 1944 the illegitimate son of an English woman and Canadian airman. His mother was forced to give him up for adoption when he was a few weeks old and, after a short spell in an orphanage, he was brought up by an Essex couple who were members of the religious group The Peculiar People. He trained first to be a teacher and then joined the BBC as a researcher on Nationwide. He had a successful career in television but, when he met the woman he wanted to marry, he had to leave it all to join her in America. Refused a Green Card, he reassured her that he would support them both by writing historical novels - an ambition he'd held for years but had yet to realize. On the strength of the first book, he was offered a contract for an entire series and, eventually, his character Richard Sharpe was brought to life by Sean Bean.[Taken from the original programme material for this archive edition of Desert Island Discs]Favourite track: Flower duet from Lakme by Delibes Book: A Glastonbury Romance by John Cowper Powys Luxury: My boat - but not to escape
