In a special edition of my podcast this week, Craig Braddick has interviewed me to talk about growing up in the 1980s with Radio 1 and then with Radio 2 into the 90s and beyond, and how being a contestant on Blockbusters guided me towards my own broadcasting career. I talk about the significance of 1981 – the year I started listening to Radio 1 – and Bucks Fizz winning Eurovision and how, during my schooldays, the charts on a Sunday mattered in the school playground. We also talk about whether the presenters of the day really represented what was going on in the wider world and whether there was a patriarchal streak to broadcasting in that era. I talk about who my favourite presenters were in those days, including the impact of Adrian John who was a presenter in the 1980s who really understood his audience. We talk about my childhood diary entries and what it contains about my radio interests, and how I used to include information about the DJ and the artists who were on Top of the Pops each week. We also talk about DJ handovers both on radio and on TOTP, and of the presenters who perhaps didn't always get on (famously Tony Blackburn and John Peel). We reflect on whether for listeners there is a particular ‘golden era' and whether some of the Radio 1 DJs in the 80s thought that they were more important than the music, and we refer to the way some presenters were delegated. We talk about the way they were caricatured in the Smashie and Nicey mode. We then move on to discuss what happened with Radio 2's evolution in the 1980s and how different the station was in those days from today, and how David Hamilton's perceptions of the station in the 80s and now are diametrically opposite. I talk about how much I enjoyed the guests on Gloria Hunniford's show on Radio 2 in the afternoons in the early 90s when I was at university. I refer to the line between education and entertainment as being blurred and how those in-depth conversations were an inspiration for my Nostalgia podcast. We talk about Jimmy Young's news and current affairs career and how the iconic JY was perhaps in some ways evoking a different era. We then speak about my experience of appearing as a contestant on Blockbusters and of meeting Bob Holness, and how it came as a surprise to my school peers that I got on the show in the first place. Craig askes me about my radio heroes, and I talk about Ed Stewart and how he died before he had a chance to read what I had written about him in a book I wrote about Christmas. We refer to Stewpot's radio personality and whether he would have fitted a different sort of genre of broadcasting. I reflect, too, on the female presenters who have influenced me, including Sarah Kennedy, and the contrast in broadcasting style with Chris Evans. I tell Craig about how I tend to gravitate to more introverted presenters and how radio and university teaching cross over in unexpected ways. Then, at the end of the interview Craig asks me what in ten years' time I think I am going to be listening to on the radio.

On Today's episode of the Make Room Show, we dive into all things Motherhood. First off, have you ever noticed how society rarely uses the term "working dad"? It's as if fatherhood doesn't require the same level of work and commitment as motherhood. Well, let me tell you, being a mother is hard work, and we deserve the recognition for it. We're constantly told that we need to "have it all," but what does that even mean? Society's expectations of what we should achieve as mothers can be overwhelming and unrealistic. It's time to redefine what "having it all" means to us individually and strive for a more authentic approach to motherhood. As mothers, we need to be authentic and vulnerable with our struggles, so we can build a supportive community. It's okay to admit that we don't have all the answers and that we need help sometimes. We also talk about how we can stop being so bothered by the little things that don't matter. Most of our expectations are just that - expectations. We need to let go of the pressure we put on ourselves to be perfect and embrace imperfection as a part of the journey. We also need to stop judging other moms because we are all in this shared human experience. The label of "mother" means so many things, and we each have our own unique way of navigating it. Let's celebrate our differences and support each other instead of tearing each other down. Speaking of labels, how about embracing our "becoming" as a mother? It's a constant journey of growth and self-discovery. We should be proud of how far we've come and excited about where we're headed. For empty nesters, it's a new phase of life that can be both exciting and scary. It's important to take time to reflect on our accomplishments as a mother and focus on self-care rituals that will actually help us. Finally, let's not forget that how we were mothered can affect how we mother our own children. It's important to recognize any patterns or habits that we may have inherited and actively work to break the cycle if necessary. So there you have it, moms. A lot to think about and reflect on. Let's continue to support each other on this journey and remember to take care of ourselves along the way. -- Jenna Worthen is the author of Mom Who Works and founder and chief curatorfor an online, global organization of the same name. Exhausted by the label “working mom” and all the things that come with it—unnecessary bias, mom guilt, lesser pay and career mobility, and more—Worthen sought a new identifier for women who work. Thus, the phrase “mom who works” was born. The Mom Who Works community serves more than 2,500 women who want to redefine what it means to be a working mom in a world without working dads. Naplnený vierou a túžbou darovať ríši duchovnú jednotu, zaoberal sa sporom o Ária a zvolal v roku 325 prvý všeobecný koncil do Nicey. Na ňom sa usiloval o prijatie jednej podstaty Loga s Otcom vo vyznaní viery a o zosúladenie cirkevných zoskupení so štátnymi provinciami. Konštantín výrazne zasahoval do obsadzovania biskupstiev a do práce synod. Pri zachovaní vtedajšieho poriadku sa zaslúžil o pokresťančenie verejného života, kresťanom poskytol vysoké úrady a svojej novej rezidencii Konštantínopolu daroval kresťanský kult ako životný princíp. Zároveň nezakázal pohanstvo a naďalej ostal Pontifex maximus. Jeho nábožnosť dokazujú početné cirkevné stavby v Trieri, Ríme (Lateránska bazilika, bazilika sv. Petra) a v Jeruzaleme (najmä bazilika Božieho hrobu). V konštantínopolskom chráme Dvanástich apoštolov si pripravil hrobku. Na smrteľnej posteli prijal krst a pochovali ho na jeho prianie v mauzóleu, uprostred pamätných tabulí dvanástich apoštolov. Na východe sa začal uctievať ako apoštolom rovný a na západe sa, najmä v stredoveku, stal vzorom kresťanského vládcu.

Show notes can be found at claysteves.com/podcast Jenna is a mom who works as the Founder and CEO of a political and nonprofit consulting company focused on intentional development strategies. She is incredibly nerdy in all things political, and primarily focuses her time on telling stories well and showing gratitude to key stakeholders and investors in causes for good. She cares deeply about helping others feel known and loved. A steno pad lover, she tired of the ugly generic models and created the Task Keeper notepads and task management system. She owns an urban farm with her husband, three kids [two boys and one girl], and a dog who rescued them named Nicey. This was an eye-opening convo where I was coached up and challenged to be a part of creating a different reality for moms in the workforce. We explore Jenna's early exposure, as a child, to the political process and how that shaped her perspective of accessibility and influence, and how she desires to steward that responsibility for herself and others, and how she discerns when to leverage that influence. She walks me through her journey of being fed up with being a working mom in a world without working dads, which led her to found the Mom Who Works movement. This conversation led to actionable steps, that you and I can take, in our businesses, to create an environment for moms to thrive, and dominant, in the workforce. I want to express that I am thankful for Jenna's courage to be a safe space for me to explore this arena, to learn, and to equip me, as a man, to be a part of the solution for all the incredible moms who work out there. Enjoy!

Public Service Announcement: This is your brain... This is your brain on Zain... The Newsy Neighbors are back at it again with another episode chock full of zainy takes and stupid news. Join us as we test out a couple new segments including who The Best Maine is on the podcast. A Nickelodeon Guts audience member graces Beaver Studios with his presence and we reminisce on some of our fondest childhood memories. Nicey recounts his chance encounter as a young naked boy with the man who inspired the show, Newsy Lalonde and we try our best to learn something new as we take a walk back in time and find out what pops with the cast. The Newsy Neighbors are back in studio for another episode of hard hitting commentary that you just cant find anywhere else. We take a dive into the latest breaking topics the "other guys" are just too afraid to go near. Honestly, how the media can ignore this stuff is beyond us, so what option do we have but to chop up the important issues that matter most. We take a closer look at our world as it was decades ago on the cusp of a technological revolution. Yes that's right, the dawn of the internet age... When anyone over the age of 30 spent their share of time asking strangers "ASL?" in rudimentary online chat rooms hoping to coax someone posing as the opposite sex to pop their cyber cherry. There is no shame when you are among the neighbors, we tell it like it is and how it was, don't worry. Nicey takes the listeners on another journey into the mind of a former drug addict as he recounts the time he decided to eat Sausage, Ex and Cheese before heading into the office in his young 20's. Ace and Bobby put Stars musical prowess the test in a new interactive game show segment where he has to finish that lyric of some questionable "hits" of the 90's and early 2000's. Play along with the cast here people, these ones are for the latch key kids who spent some hours in front of the TV letting Carson Daly tell you what music was hot that week. Take a ride with the boys, I promise we have toys... Please enjoy.... And don't forget to send your listener questions to newsyneighbors@gmail.com after you consume your news, dude.
In the early 1990s Harry Enfield went from being a part-time milkman to one of our biggest comedy stars, and many of the characters he created have become embedded in our national psyche - Loadsamoney, Kevin the Teenager, Tim Nice-But-Dim, Wayne and Waynetta Slob, Stavros and Smashie and Nicey, to name just a few. He started out on Spitting Image and Saturday Night Live, and his television shows in the 1990s reinvigorated British sketch comedy, gaining him more than 13 million viewers a week. Films, documentaries, and more comedy series have followed, as well as a hugely successful theatre show with his comedy partner of nearly 30 years, Paul Whitehouse. Harry tells Michael Berkeley about how his journey from punk to opera - his great musical passion - developed when he was living in a council flat in his twenties and borrowing a record a week from the library. We hear parts of two Verdi operas that inspired the theme tunes for his first two television series. He reveals why he’s chosen the aria Largo al Factotum from The Barber of Seville in tribute to Paul Whitehouse and we hear a moving performance by John Tomlinson as Boris Godunov. Music by Elgar and by Schubert brings back memories of Harry's time at university and he talks movingly about family life and his relationship with his father Edward, who enjoyed a late-flowering career as a journalist and broadcaster. And he quotes a less than flattering entry about his grandparents from Virginia Woolf’s diary. Harry doesn’t usually do interviews so it’s a real pleasure to hear him talking about his life through the music he loves. Producer: Jane Greenwood A Loftus production for BBC Radio 3

Jamaican born Playwright, Producer and Actor David Heron has been called one of the most successful Caribbean artists of the last decade. He first came to the attention of Jamaican theatre audiences as a playwright, with the runaway success of his first play "Ecstasy", which ran for two years and toured three continents, emerging as one of the most popular Jamaican plays ever. Since then he has penned five more stage plays, all of which have earned him great commercial and critical acclaim in his homeland and internationally- "Intermission" , "Against His Will" , "Love and Marriage and New York City", "Redemption" and "4PLAY" . Heron is the recipient of five International Theatre Institute Awards including Best Producer and Best Script for "Intermission", and Best Production, Best Drama and Best Script for "Against His Will". His biggest international success to date has been his romantic comedy, "Love and Marriage and New York City", which has toured regionally in the USA as well as throughout Great Britain in both 2002 and 2003, playing to packed houses and excellent reviews, and prompting British critic Terry Grimley to christen Heron "Jamaica's own Neil Simon." The 2006 revival of the show at The Billie Holiday Theatre in New York was nominated for the prestigious AUDELCO Award, New York's highest accolade for Off Broadway Black Theater. That production then triumphed as an Official Selection of the 2007 National Black Theatre Festival held in Winston Salem North Carolina in August, 2007.Heron is only the second Jamaican playwright, after Trevor Rhone, to have his work showcased at the festival, one of the largest in the world."Love and Marriage and New York City" went on to enjoy a highly successful limited run in Toronto, Canada in May of 2008, where Heron made the cover of PRIDE Magazine, of the nation's foremost Black publications. As an actor, Heron's credits include "Ecstasy", "Intermission", "Love and Marriage and New York City", (in Jamaica, Britain and Off Broadway) the US regional production of the Broadway hit "Cheaters and Redemption" (Jamaica and US regional tour).Migrating to the USA, he immediately received high praise for his role as Friday in the World Premiere production of "Robinson Crusoe" at the prestigious Orlando Shakespeare Festival in 2006, and played Hotspur in "H", a modern day adaptation of Shakespeare's Henry IV Parts 1 and 2 at the Bric Studios, New York.In 2007, he made his Shakespearean debut as Laertes in Take Wing and Soar's critically acclaimed production of "Hamlet" at The Workshop Theater Off Broadway, and received excellent notices for his role as Prince in The New Federal Theater's revival of Errol John's classic Caribbean drama, "Moon On A Rainbow Shawl".In 2008, he earned further critical acclaim for his performance as The Messenger in the Off Broadway revival of "Medea" at the National Black Theater in Harlem, as well as in Othello and "The Taming of The Shrew" at The Virginia Shakespeare Festival. In 2009, he appeared in the Off Broadway premiere of John Patrick Shay's acclaimed drama, "Trickster At The Gate", as Harlem Jazz musician Roy "Lucky" Luckwood. In August of 2006, Heron received one of the highest accolades of his career when the City Council of New York honored him with a Proclamation and Award at City Hall, in recognition of his "Outstanding theatrical career and his invaluable contribution to the betterment of society."He is a proud member of the Actors Equity Association and The Jamaica Association of Dramatic Artists.
