Have you ever thought about whether you've unconsciously set a glass ceiling for how successful you can be in life? Today we're going to look into self-imposed upper limit ceiling! Let's dive in! In his book The Big Leap, Gay Hendricks talks about how we as humans have an “upper limit”, the threshold if you will, and how we sabotage ourselves when we hit that limit, bringing us back down. But what happens when we ourselves (unconsciously) set a low ceiling of upper limit to begin with, by our thoughts, as to how high that limit is? A self-imposed ceiling to how successful we can be, how much we can achieve in life? And by the same token we've created a LOWER limit… what we are not will go below. If we pay attention to those around us, or those on television/famous people, we can get an idea of what ceilings different people have set for themselves… including some people that have placed no limits on their ability to create, their ability to have and hold great things, the ability to know who they can become. Some limits (or standards) we may have can be as simple as: * Can you live without a cell (smart phone) phone? * Can you live without Netflix and Amazon Prime? * Can you afford to subscribe to ALL the streaming channels available out there? Jim Rhon said once in one if his speeches that a $300 TV actually costs us a lot more… in the potential we waste watching it!! Have you ever thought of it that way? I had not!! What car you drive (or can you be happy riding a bike/taking the bus? When we have upper limit CEILINGS for ourselves, we stay below those limits, never to go above. BUT, what if we could raise or remove our upper limit CEILING, what would be possible for each one of us, and what kind of value (peace of mind, beauty, ease of life, convenience, confidence in others by being examples) would we put out into the world? Value that people want to PAY us for? Here are a few things/ideas to consider: Where am I limiting myself? (is it in the jobs I can do, in how much I know, lack of experience, self-confidence, what's my self-image)? One thing is not having the desire to do something (like something others think we'd be good at), but it's another to think we can't. Where can I see myself improving? Think of easy things you can do now, with the least effort or cost that can improve you. What is one thing I can do now to raise my ceiling/belief? Can I Google something on that one thing? When can I start implementing? Start NOW, there's no better time like the present… it's the end of the year (or it's always the end of the month, the week, the day!), this can set the tone for what you'll do next year! Are you willing to fail, and keep going? Failing is part of the growth and evolution experience, so embrace it. Know it will be UNCOMFORTABLE... always for as long as you're growing. Only when you stop growing do things not feel uncomfortable, so if you're comfortable… your life may never change. But it's also so REWARDING as well! You'll see!! Let's connect on social media! In order to help his wife manage her health, they have had a complete lifestyle change, especially with diet. These changes happened a little at a time, but their overall impact has helped them both become healthier. How God helps us work through life line upon line, one baby step at a time. If not seeing progress, remember to be patient, then identify the end result/identity shift you are trying to make (instead of saying you want to lose 30 pounds realize the real goal is you want to live a healthier lifestyle). “if you want to change your life, you have to change something you do daily.”—Sheldon The power of having an accountability partner We know we can get stuck in bad habits, now let's shift that and get stuck in good habits. One of the core fundamentals to developing a habit is a concept called Decide who you want to be and prove it to yourself by small daily wins. Don't quit when you miss a day. Just keep going. This means establishing a maximum and a minimum you are going to do for a goal each day/week—not an all or nothing (because we inevitably don't fulfill those). Ex: Lower limit writing one sentence in my journal; Upper Limit—writing a 1-2 pages (but don't overdo it—set a max). It finally happened...we got the COVID and it slowed us down (well, it slowed Micki down...Sam's a generator and is unstoppable!). We cancelled our first online event, Micki postponed her channeling sessions and other projects, and Sam shifted her designing to only work from home (while Nick did all of her running around - lol). So what happens when your are forced to slow down? You start to ask yourself what is happening energetically - at least that's what we always do. Is this our ego's way of preventing us from taking the next leap? Is it self sabotage? OR is it your body's way of telling you to slow down and rest? How do you tell the difference? What we do know, is that the Universe is always supporting us. Even if we need to slow down. Even if we feel like we are getting nothing done. As Sam discovered, you don't need to be sick in order to receive support from others and the Universe. But sometimes it takes slowing down to realize how supported you really are. Listen in as we discuss Sam's awareness/experience of her energetic up levelling and as we contemplate the difference between holding ourselves back from the next big leap and purposefully slowing down when our body rest. Let's jump in! ----------------------------------------------- You've likely heard about the Academy Awards debacle where Chris Rock made an inappropriate joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's hair. This led to her husband, Will Smith, walking on stage and slapping Chris Rock across the face. It was literally the slap heard around the world and was a poor reflection on both of them. I consider these examples of upper limiting by Rock and Smith. Both were highly successful at that time and will continue to be. However, their actions represented questionable judgment and integrity. ----------------------------------------------- How can you avoid an upper limiting incident when you're at the top of your game? Here's how… Be aware. Create a team of advisors with whom you can share the truth about how you're feeling. This might include friends, professional advisors, a coach, a therapist, and family members. Be aware of the people you're turning to for advice to ensure that they have the same values and level of integrity that you do. Tune into how you're feeling. Make time in your day to decompress. Figure out what works for you. It might be meditating, listening to music, reading, taking a walk, or doing a Pilates class. If you're in a meeting, practice deep breathing. Breathe in for three counts, hold it for three, and then breathe out.
