Some 43% of women and 31% of men report some degree of sexual dysfunction, according to the Cleveland Clinic. And if you add in an autoimmune condition like Multiple Sclerosis, that number can go as high as 69%.So to talk frankly about this important issue, particularly from the viewpoint of married women, I drafted in three of my favorite MSers - Roxanne Engstrom, Julie Stamm, and Amanda Thompson. Our guest today is Amanda Thompson. She serves as a Field Staff with Freedom in Christ, discipling women both locally and around the country through Zoom. She lives in Texas with her husband, Valiant, and her three sons. Amanda gave her life to Christ at 12 years old, but prior to that, she was abused by a relative for many years. This left her with a deep sense of shame and guilt, and she carried this over into her relationship with the Lord. For 20 years, Amanda tried hard to be a “good Christian girl” so that God wouldn't regret His decision to make her His child. But that didn't work. Eventually, in her second marriage, during a season of infidelity and self-hatred, Amanda hit rock bottom and was confronted with the question: did God actually exist? In that moment, she decided that yes, God was real, and since He was real, He must be big enough to fix everything she had messed up. Not long after, Amanda's mom gave her a copy of the book Victory Over the Darkness by Neil Anderson, and she found herself crying her way through it as she learned that she was loved, accepted and significant to God. God used this truth to revolutionize her life, marriage, and relationship with Him as he led her to greater freedom and healing. Today, Amanda sees all of life as a journey towards Christ likenesses, and she's passionate about helping others on this journey, too. Let's dive in to our conversation with Amanda Thompson. Amanda Thompson is an American female recurve archer from the United States. She was coached by Terry Laney. She qualified for a position on the Junior US World Team and competed in the Junior World Archery Championships in Lilleshall, England. She was selected for USA Archery's Junior Dream Team. She won a position on the Junior US World Team and competed in the Junior World Archery Championships in Merida, Mexico. She was selected to be a Resident Athlete at the United States Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California. Amanda is currently the Chief of Student Maid. What has Amanda's experience been with Student Maid? (2:19) Amanda instantly fell in love with the Student Maid culture. It is a cleaning company but they provide so much more for their students. They are building the next generation of leaders. Amanda started off answering phone calls and kept growing the company before becoming head of operations. She was living in Florida at the time and she was running day to day operations. They are all about each person being their own wheelhouse. They believe in not just doing what you love, but also doing what you are great at. One of Amanda's wheelhouse categories is teaching or coaching and developing skills. At Student Maid, they have a lot of workshops and different things you can learn. Amanda states that she needs to be teaching to feel happy and fulfilled. Amanda is not from Florida but leaving the company was not an option when they moved. Amanda's boss did not want to lose Amanda just as much as Amanda did not want to leave the company and so they figured out how to make it work and that was how they came up with their ambassador program. They have students running an entire company. That was how their program bloomed. Amanda manages students who learn how to run a company, they run in terms and graduate with a great resumé. Students can say that they worked in a business and that they have experience. How has the Pandemic affected Amanda and Student Maid? (11:43) Amanda believes a lot of business owners, leaders and companies are going through the same thing during the pandemic. It's been an unsure time as to what is going to happen next. Student Maid has two parts to the business. They have the cleaning company and then they have Kristin Hadid LLC. Kristin wrote a book and she travels the world telling people how to treat their people. At Student Maid, they practise what Kristin teaches. Student Maid would not have remained open had it not been for Kristin. Kristin decided to use the pandemic as an opportunity to talk to people and other businesses about how to care for their employees during this difficult time. They closed Student Maid at the beginning of the pandemic for their employees. They did not want to risk their employee's health and lives by making them go into other people's homes. So even though they shut down for a short period of time, their people felt loved and supported during this trying year. They were meeting with their employees weekly despite being closed just to check in and make sure everyone was doing well. How did Amanda transition from being a competitive archer to head of operations at Student Maid? (20:54) Amanda started archery when she was 10 and she excelled at it. She started to compete nationally and internationally. She made it onto some world teams and have the opportunity to live at the Olympic Training Center in San Diego under her head coach at the time. Amanda, however, did not love archery, she was just good at it and once you get to a certain level with a sport, you have to love it. Amanda was passionate about teaching and so she stepped away from archery and became a preschool teacher. She was trying to find her passion and teaching was always behind it. She ended up in Florida coaching Archery at an Eastern Sports Facility outside Gainesville. Still not quite satisfied, Amanda was still looking for jobs at the time. She accidentally ran into Student Maid and it sounded too good to be true. She thought it was a fake scam on craigslist. She still applied, having never heard of Student Maid before. The interview was the first Interview Amanda has had where the company asked her to interview them to see if they were a good fit for her. She thought that was really great and she saw the stuff they were doing for the students and the opportunities she would be able to have, coach and make her own. She dropped Archery and everything else and started to work for Student Maid full time. Student Maid Student Maid is a cleaning and concierge service based in Gainesville, Florida dedicated to empowering the rising generation of leaders. Their goal is to empower them to approach their futures with confidence in themselves and in their leadership abilities. Amanda Thompson is a sober (but not boring) artist and creative entrepreneur from Brighton in the UK at her Studio in the Sky. She has been creative as far back as she can remember and has been keeping sketchbooks for 30 yrs, while completed daily drawings for 3 consistent years. In 2018, Amanda lost her way and was unsure what to do with all her art and patterns. She then started to work with a business mentor, Ali Mapletoft. Things began to change for her when she set up Creatively Curious, which brought out a range of luxury sketchbooks and notebooks. She decided then to get sober when she fell in love with building her brand rather than a pint of lager. On September 1st, 2019, Amanda stopped drinking and experienced the next 14 months to be life-changing. She described her creativity as on another level and grew her passion for inspiring women to make changes in their relationship with alcohol with creativity.

Week 2 of the summer series has us turning our attention to TpT We've had a little bit of time to relax and recover from the end of the school year sprint Last week, we featured episodes about teacher wellness and getting routines down to help you stay happy and healthy, a great foundation for getting in a routine to work from home— which can be easier said than done If you aren't working during the summer, your mind might be thinking about how to make a little extra cash Whether you have yet to open your TpT store or you have one that might as well not be open because it has gained such little traction, begin with Yari's advice in episode 19. If you need some mindset work to get you started so you stop making excuses or some tactical tips for first steps in starting an account and picking your freebie, Yari has you covered. This is a perfect episode to pair with a crash course in branding from Amanda Thompson, episode 37 of the podcast. Amanda explains how branding is more than just colors and fonts— though she does provide some killer tips for making sure that you pick a name that will actually work for you long term. She will also help you get over that perfectionism that has been keeping you sidelined for too long Want to take your TpT game to the next level? Listen to Hayley's second time on the show in episode 33. This TpTer has hit a number of impressive milestones and she shares her secrets behind it. In our longest and last interview of season 1 of the podcast, Danielle and Nicole talk to Amanda Thompson of Thompson's Teachings. Jersey native Amanda is a 1st grade teacher and a branding expert, and though she has a natural eye for design, she firmly believes that great branding is so much more than fonts and a color scheme. Amanda has built a devoted following on Instagram, and she runs the thriving Facebook group Instagram Connection for Educators. Amanda put in the time to make personal connections and in both spaces, Amanda leads by example. She shows that being real resonates more deeply than being stereotypically Instagram perfect. The entire episode is a tutorial in being yourself, and for Amanda, her authentic self is reflected in the platforms she has invested be time in and the deep connections she's made along the way by being who she truly is. Amanda delivers seriously good advice on branding without taking herself too seriously. An episode with as many laughs as there are nuggets of branding wisdom, this is a must-listen for teacherpreneurs at any stage of business. In this episode, you'll hear: -How who you are in your classroom can help you find “the thing” that becomes your brand -The right way to work the DMs on Instagram— and why you absolutely should -How Amanda decided which platform was right for her, and how you can pick the one you should build on (in fact, she explains what order to conquer the platforms in for total beginners) -4 steps to creating a recognizable brand that is truly you Links mentioned Amanda's Facebook group: Instagram Connection for Educators https://www.facebook.com/groups/igconnectforeducators/ How to check if your handles are available across platforms in the click of just one button https://www.namecheckr.com Episode 33: Making Success Your Business: TpT Is a Business, Not a Hobby with Hayley Cain https://anchor.fm/nicole-clark/episodes/Episode-33-Making-Success-Your-Business-TpT-Is-a-Business--Not-a-Hobby-with-Hayley-Cain-e41t58 Episode 29: Engaging Transformations: Inspiring Students and Teachers To Get Started with Kayla Dessert https://anchor.fm/nicole-clark/episodes/Episode-29-Engaging-Transformations-Inspiring-Students-and-Teachers-To-Get-Started-with-Kayla-Dessert-e3n57d Episode 35: Reluctant To Rockstar Writers with Pam Olivieri https://anchor.fm/nicole-clark/episodes/Episode-35-Reluctant-To-Rockstar-Writers-with-Pam-Olivieri-e46f0b Episode 15: The How and Why of Building Meaningful Student Connections with Janelle Everetts https://www.edverything.com/podcast/2019/building-meaningful-student-connections Episode 13: How To Document Your Teaching Journey (And Why Every Educator Should) With Aliana Lowe https://www.edverything.com/podcast/2019/how-to-document-your-teaching-journey

Det får du høre her!
In today's episode we feature several interviews with players at USWDGC in a variety of divisions: Meg Fittro, Sarah Brown, Michelle Frazer, Amanda Thompson, Madison Walker, Ava Meyer, and Paige Pi...
This episode features fashion designer Amanda Thompson. One of the most fascinating things about Amanda, to me, is that her creative journey actually began as a professional ballet dancer. She was a dancer in Michael Clarke’s company, during which time Amanda danced in a Vivienne Westwood show and was photographed by Nick Knight many times, notably once for the front cover of ID magazine. Through her life as a dancer she became enthralled by the medium of film which then led to her training as professional actress during which time she worked with creatives such as David Bailey, Ian Drury and Billy Connolly. Amanda describes this phase of her life as “feast or famine”, with financial struggles at the fore, something she is extremely frank about. And it was at this time Amanda found her calling, which is how she describes fashion design. She was compelled to design and make her own clothes having spent years craving couture she simply couldn’t afford. Self taught, Amanda is a massive proponent of slow fashion and strongly feels clothes should be things that are cherished rather than discarded. She runs her business from her relatively new shop in Westbourne Park, behind Portobello Market in west London. So, we met up in the summer at a lovely bar called Negozia Classica in Notting Hill where we had a couple glasses of delicious Italian wine and chatted about Amanda’s journey to date, what inspires her and her new AW collection. Here’s our conversation…
In episode 18, we interview Isa Godinez, this year’s recipient of the HBA Edward E. Hunt, Jr. Award for Outstanding Graduate Presentation or Poster for her poster entitled Cardiometabolic health among Purepecha in North Carolina. Godinez is a graduate student at UNC Chapel Hill working with Dr. Amanda Thompson, and recently completed a successful doctoral defense on her research with the Purepecha population. In this interview, we talk to Godinez about field work, migration, cardiometabolic health, and reevaluating the common acculturation narrative among the Purepecha in North Carolina. Barb Mussman and Amanda Thompson are case managers for students needing accommodations. I didn't know much about what this involved until our conversation. Sure, I've received accommodation forms before, but I hadn't considered how these accommodations came to be, or what the process is for students who need accommodations. And what about the students who could benefit from these supports but decide to go it without accommodations? I had many unknowns and questions.
I've been talking with some knowledgable people about accessibility lately. Arron Wings, Barb Mussman and Amanda Thompson of Learning Services at Kirkwood Community College provide a detailed sketch of support for students needing accommodations. Lauri Hughes, Nursing Department Coordinator, describes her personal story of receiving support as a student at Kirkwood and where that has led her career and her heart. Andrea Skeries of Geonetric regularly educates me on web accessibility (A11Y) solutions and news. Maryam Rod Szabo and Wilson Rojas from KCELT help me fit accessibility into the big picture of Universal Design for Learning. Five conversations to be published over the next five weeks (or so). My goals are to raise awareness and to continue the conversation about making learning accessible to everyone. Thanks for listening!
Guest Amanda Thompson Rundahl, Director of Learning and Engagement at the St. Louis Art Museum discusses her work in finding ways to explain and interpret the museum's collection through various outreach efforts and programs.
A little about our guests. Amanda was born in Louisiana, then moved to Oklahoma, Arizona, and Florida as a child. She returned to Arizona as an adult. David hails from Chicago and is a big sports fan. Amanda received her Bachelor’s degree in Human Behavioral Studies and is working toward her PhD. in Transpersonal Counseling with an emphasis on sexual health. David’s background is in retail. He has always wanted to go into business for himself and, with Amanda, began that journey 2 ½ years ago. Amanda knew she did not want a traditional job, so together they created Delightfully Vixen. A little about their business. It was a need for extreme flexibility in her schedule that started Amanda searching for something she could do. She found an under-served market in women who needed bra-fitting and lingerie and weren’t “average.” She added in her studies to create a safe space for women and couples to ask about various areas of sexual health. David’s background in retail, his knowledge of apparel, and his knowledge of marketing has helped get this dream of both of them off the ground. One piece of advice (the nutshell version) When you make the decision to get into business for yourself, really know what business you are getting in to. Scout it out for more than just a few months and learn all you can.
