Dr. Beth Colón Pizzini is an Assistant Professor of Instruction at the University of Texas at Austin in the African and African Diaspora Studies Department. Her expertise is on Puerto Rico's music and street art, Puerto Rican, Caribbean and Afro-Diasporic feminism; pan-Caribbean and afro-diasporic cultural and political exchanges; and decolonial practices. Abstract: Network neuroscience is a promising approach to explore cognitive processes in neurological disorders. Alzheimer's disease (AD) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) show network dysfunctions linked with cognitive deficits. Within this framework, network abnormalities between AD and FTD show both convergent and divergent patterns. However, these functional patterns are far from being established and their relevance to cognitive processes remains to be elucidated. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between cognition and functional connectivity of major cognitive networks in these diseases. Twenty-three bvFTD, 22 AD and 20 controls underwent cognitive evaluation and resting-state functional MRI. Principal component analysis was used to describe cognitive variance across participants. Brain network connectivity was estimated with connectome analysis. Connectivity matrices were created assessing correlations between parcels within each functional network. The following cognitive networks were considered: default mode (DMN), dorsal attention (DAN), ventral attention (VAN) and frontoparietal (FPN) networks. The relationship between cognition and connectivity was assessed using a robust convergent correlation-wise and interaction analyses. Three principal cognitive components explained more than 80% of the cognitive variance: the first component (cogPC1) loaded on memory, the second component (cogPC2) loaded on emotion and language, the third component (cogPC3) loaded on the visuo-spatial and attentional domains. Pizzini Wines in King Valley, Victoria, is one of Australia's leading proponents of Italian grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and Pinot Grigio.As you'll hear today from winemaker Joel Pizzini, it was extremely difficult convincing people to taste what were then exotic varieties back in the 90s and early 2000s.But now, Pizzini has all but phased out traditional Australian varieties like shiraz from its range.Meanwhile it has expanded its Sangiovese offering to encompass premium wines at all price points, all the way up to the Rubacuori, priced at $140 a bottle and built for long-term cellaring.Pizzini has done this by continually refining its approach to growing and making these wines, taking advice from internationally renowned experts.It's a really exciting project, and I began this interview by asking Joel where it all began.

Navy EOD Veteran to Indoor Skydiving - Bob Pizzini elevates your leadership Bob Pizzini says Navy EOD is the "Nation's best kept secret and most lethal weapon." And all this time I thought that title went to the Army Combat Engineers. Pizzini enlisted in the Navy at 18 and began a 26 year first career that included Navy diving and "about a thousand jumps" from aircraft. Training all over the country, he realized Virginia Beach needed and did not have a vertical wind tunnel. The location seemed perfect - a combination of high density military and a resort destination for civilians. For the past 30 years the Pizzini family have been at the forefront of Italian grape variety based wines, not only in the King Valley where they are based, but for the whole country. Working with respected viticulturist Mark Walpole and Tuscan consultant Alberto Antonini, they established a stronghold and pedigree for varieties like sangiovese and nebbiolo. Much of the success of Pizzini Wines is owed to Fred Pizzini, who not only converted the family property to viticulture, but also saw the potential of embracing his Italian heritage by planting then unknown and untested varieties. They are today considered not only one of the largest but also most experienced producers of wines made from Italian varieties, now made by Fred's son Joel.

Mark Walpole has been one of the most influential people in the alternative variety scene in Australia, particularly Italian varieties, mostly stemming from his time working for the Brown Family, the Pizzini family, and then the Greenstone project in Heathcote.
