Social wellbeing isn't something that we talk about that much. The basic gist is seeing the benefit of having social connections that positively impact your life.As we move through life we can find that friendships alter and shift, but we all need friends.Today we take a look at some of the social challenges we face, the importance and benefit of connection and the difference it makes when someone can remind you of who you are.Fell free to listen in x
Easier said then done. Social wellbeing has three elements1. Social Acceptance - accepting others2. Social Actualisation - knowing who they are and their purpose within society 3. Social Contribution - A sense of belonging to the community and making a contribution to society. In this episode we touch on Social Acceptance. High performers are the most incredible listeners. They hold space and ask strong questions. They want the best from their tribe. They want to empower their people and always get them to believe in themselves. Sometimes we don't get that response from athletes. If I want to be a high performer - I make the most generous assumption people are doing the best they can. Then we go from there. Welcome to the first-ever episode of the True Wellness podcast! I am so glad you're here! If you're looking for how to have real energy to do all the things you have to do AND want to do each day, then look no further. Health is multi-faceted and true wellness is made of intersecting categories beyond just what we eat and how we move. It's social, financial, physical, mental, spiritual, and more. I used to be the girl who ate anything I wanted, spent all the money, didn't set boundaries with people, acted like a doormat to my family, and I FELT IT. Feeling like an exhausted "mombie" was the catalyst for the launch of my wellness journey. I'm still learning. I struggle with certain categories more than others, like money, but I'm here to struggle well with you. True wellness is a never-ending journey. Let's go it together, my friend! For a long time, workplace wellness meant a break room stocked with free bananas and granola. But as the conversation around work life balance becomes more wholistic, the concept of wellness has expanded to include mental health, paid leave, and even personal finance. Yes Communities' Leanna Cline and Cigna's Kylee Geffre discuss how the approach to wellness has changed, and what goes into creating a wellness culture that attracts and retains talent.Links:CignaYes Communities

The Female Career. Trailblazing New Zealand women share their career journeys
Is it unhelpful to talk about “imposter syndrome”? How can you build your confidence and create opportunities to let your talent shine at work? Renee Graham is Te Tumu Whakahaere, Chief Executive of the Social Wellbeing Agency. Before beginning this role in June 2021, she was Secretary for Women and Chief Executive of the Ministry for Women. Growing up in Porirua, Renee began her career journey in a frontline role at Work and Income. Over the next 20+ years, she performed a range of policy roles within the Ministry of Social Development and the Ministry of Education. In this episode of the podcast, Renee talks candidly about her progression into senior leadership roles, her experiences of imposter syndrome, and how she built her confidence by noting down her successes in a little black book. “You start building up your little black book of things that you know that you can do, and that helps build your confidence. And then when you're building your confidence, your imposter syndrome dial is decreasing a little bit. So it's always there, but every little thing that you do helps.”
This week, Rob and Chris talk about how as consumers of media content, it can be dificult to juggle our wellbeing. They discuss topics such as feelings of being left out due to social media, mentally disappearing from the world into our technology, and how consumption habits are starting to change for the general public.
What is social wellbeing and why is it important? The countless challenges we have faced over the last few years, have directly impacted our ability to create and grow meaningful relationships, virtually and in-person. Building relationships is fundamental to worker resiliency and developing thriving organizations that withstand turmoil. In this episode, the team addresses why employers should be concerned about their employees' social wellbeing and how to help them cultivate connections in and outside of work.
In this episode of The Whistler Podcast, Mayor Jack Crompton and Cole Stefiuk talk waste diversion, climate action, adapting operations during COVID, circular economy and the new ReLoveIt online store with Dave Clark and Lori Pyne of the Whistler Community Services Society (WCSS). October's theme in Whistler's Climate Action BIG MOVES Strategy is: Let's love this place, reduce our waste. Lori and Dave detail how they accomplish this by reducing single-use plastics, minimizing food waste, buying second hand clothes, and they also share that the Re-Build-It Centre has tools for borrowing, to help people restore and repair.

Kasley is on the pod this week! Kasley was introduced to me by a mutual friend and let's just say it was intellectual love at first sight. Kasley specializes in the science of and strategies for social well-being: the dimension of health that comes from connection and community. She holds a master's in public health from Harvard University and is a writer, speaker, consultant, and member of local, state, and national coalitions working to address the loneliness epidemic. Based in San Francisco, Kasley led community engagement and strategic partnerships at Verily, the spin-out of Google focused on health tech, and previously conducted research on mental health and positive psychology. In this conversation, we discuss: loneliness stats in the pandemic (that you may be surprised to hear), the importance of relationships on our physical health, our experiences with loneliness and connection, Kasley’s public health research on social health, chronic vs. situational loneliness, why more friends is not the answer to loneliness, the shifting needs of social capital, and the future of loneliness and connection with physical distancing.Website: http://kasleykillam.com/Twitter: https://twitter.com/KasleyKillamInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/killam.with.kindness/Scientific American articles: https://www.scientificamerican.com/author/kasley-killam/Psychology Today blog: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/social-health

The safety and health of their clients, volunteers, and staff are of paramount importance to them, and they are taking proactive measures to ensure they help mitigate the risks of COVID-19 exposure and do their part as an organization to ‘flatten the curve’ of the outbreak. The image of depression is typically dark and evocative. Descriptive words that I often heard include: walking in darkness, desperately alone, ongoing emptiness, stuck in the black hole, exhausting, etc. Perhaps King David of the Bible in his words described the depths of suffering someone with depression might experience today in Psalm 31:9-10, "...I am distress. Tears blur my eyes. My body and soul are withering away. I am dying from grief..." The symptoms of depression affect ALL areas of our life: 1) Biological self; 2) Psychological health; 3) Social Wellbeing; and 4) Spiritual Health #ServeToLead #DepressionIsDefeated
Cascie Kambouris of The Hope Initiative discusses her journey in creating a social enterprise that drives social wellbeing, while providing packages of hope for social initiatives.

Professor Gary McCulloch, UCL Institute of Education, gives a talk for the Education Public seminar series on 27th February 2017. Conservative policies in education have often been analysed in terms of their neoliberal characteristics. In the early years of the 21st century, the neoconservative themes of education policy are also highly visible, in particular social wellbeing, national character, and British values, strongly influenced by broader contemporary issues but also by longer-term historical legacies. In this seminar we will review briefly the key themes of Conservative policies in education in the 20th century before examining the emergence of neoconservative themes over the past decade, continuities and changes in education policy since the 1980s, and current prospects for new and alternative themes.
