EP 43: The Midlife Cry, Hormones & Irregular Bleeding. I think I got your attention. You are quietly saying “me too”...Do you ever feel like perimenopause symptoms get the best of you at the worst times? I do…I feel like everything happens at once and it's hard to climb out of that funk. Join me, Dr. Sarah Milken in my solo episode, The Midlife Cry, Hormones & Irregular Bleeding. This is my third minisode of The Midlife Golden Sh*t Shovel Cluster F*ck Series. In this week's minisode, I dive deep into the struggles of my month-long bleeding fiasco, while I take four teenagers on a ski trip. I tell you about the doctors appointments, what you should ask & the 411 on irregular bleeding. Sounds like a blast right? Trust me…it can be hard trying to juggle mom life with perimenopause rearing its ugly head. And, in this episode you get a first hand experience of dealing with just that. I learned that being honest with myself, friends & my IG community and sharing my vulnerabilities, I could help other midlife women to raise their hands and say “me too”. It is very normalizing to raise your hand with others raising their hands, in the roller coaster of the midlife journey. Some Highlights:  Take midlife by the horns! Take the time to focus on your health Choose what works best for you How to efficiently wash your underwear on vacation Questions and tests you can ask your doctor about  Juggling motherhood and hormones  Normalizing perimenopausal craziness in a community setting Looking forward to connecting with you! EP 42: Do you ever feel like you just have to grin & bear it with midlife injuries or menopausal symptoms? I do…I feel like my teens and husband will think I am always whining about something…but, of course, it is ok for them to whine about everything. Join me, Dr. Sarah Milken in my solo episode, “Thx Hawaii! That Was Rad…Midlife Injuries. WTF?” This is my second minisode of The Midlife Golden Sh*t Shovel Cluster F*ck Series. In this week's minisode, I dive deep into the past seventeen months of my life, why I started my podcast, and a not so relaxing family trip to Hawaii (during Covid) that taught me a valuable midlife lesson. If we want to be successful on this midlife journey, then we have to ask for help in times of need. Breaking the seemingly perfection veneer and showing vulnerability & need is okay…ask Brene Brown. It's time to stop worrying about the judgmental peanut gallery. Forget trying to look like the perfect midlife remixer. It IS time to CHOOSE YOU, even if it's a little “achey and complainey”... Midlife self obsession is on! Some Highlights:  It is never too late to start something new The best decisions are the ones that scare us Strengthen connections in midlife Take off the shiny veneer  Take your wants & needs off the backburner Ask for help, you are not a burden! Welcome to Part 2 of my interview with harpist, teacher, composer, and historian, Ann Heymann. In Part 2 of our interview Ann and I are joined by Kathy DeAngelo, the director of The Somerset Folk Harp Festival, who like Siobhán Armstrong of The Historical Harp Society of Ireland, are each giving Ann lifetime achievement awards this summer. This chat is really where Ann and I talk about how the harp is an icon. We discuss the mythology of the harp, The Dadga, The Tuatha Dé Danann, and legends and metaphors embedded in the harp. As Ann says, “..I realized that encoded within the legends are all of these metaphors which connect. It makes it magic, it makes it true, it makes it real. It's like a formula embedded...trying to connect the whole world and life…Music was magic.”On Teaching and LearningAnn talks about being, “addicted to ‘ah-ha' moments” and how she loves teaching and learns so much from her students and finds that the feedback she gets in lessons is really nice.Ann is always learning and wanting to gain more insight into her own playing which has prompted Ann to release a new verion of her first tutorial on the harp, “Secrets of the Gaelic Harp”. The second book will be entitled, “Secrets of the Gaelic Harp in the Second Manor.”Some Highlights of Ann's Career:We discuss highlights of her career including:Her time at Granard and her first harp competition there. After doing the Pibroch Ann got drawn into other things. She was involved in other aspects of the harp and after doing that Ann got involved with doing the Telyn Rawn, the horsehair harp. Ann says that she a learned so much from doing the Telyn Rawn project. She hasn't released the recordings yet of her performance on The Telyn Rawn at Brecon Cathedral and at Tewkesbury Abbey. Visit Ann's website to purchase her music, schedule a lesson, read up on her amazing research, and more. Ann will be teaching online this summer at The Somerset Folk Harp Festival and will be receiving lifetime achievement awards from Somerset and The Historical Harp Society of Ireland at their Scoil na gCláirseach, Festival of Irish Harp Festival both happening this July. In this episode Susan Guthrie speaks with Wendy Dolin, the Founder of MISSD, about the potentially fatal drug reaction known as akathisia and how speaking to Wendy recently saved Susan when she had her own near miss.  This is truly information that may save your life or the life of someone you love and Wendy's journey beyond the heartbreak of losing her beloved husband and how she took that journey to turn it into a mission to create akithisia awareness around the globe! That day ten years ago started much as any other and Wendy Dolin had no idea that when her husband Stewart went off to work that day he would never return home again.  The tragedy that befell her husband and family that day took Wendy on a journey through the world of drug trials, ground-breaking litigation and world-wide advocacy to found MISSD (The Medication-Induced Suicide Prevention and Education Foundation in Memory of Stewart Dolin), dedicated to creating awareness around akathisia and helping us to be educated consumers of prescription and over the counter drugs. What is akathisia?   Akathisia is a disorder induced as a side effect of medications (including, but not limited to, SSRI's and antipsychotics), which can cause a person such intense inner restlessness that the sufferer is driven to violence and/or suicide.  There are many permutations of akathisia but the number one thing to take away from this episode?  Anytime you start, stop or change the dosage of a medication, BE AWARE!  This is when you are most vulnerable for akathisia or other negative effects of medication.  MISSD is not anti-medication but is pro-information so be sure to listen and be informed today! Some Highlights the Episode: Find out some of the medications can lead to akathisia - many of them are probably in your medicine cabinet right now! Learn what symptoms to look for that might indicate you need to get some help. Hear how Wendy was inspired to take her tragedy and turn it into advocacy by founding MISSD. Discover the poignant meaning behind the acronym for MISSD. Find out why members of the military may be even more at risk. Hear why the information in this episode is so on point for the COVID vaccine we are all waiting for and why we need to be concerned. Wendy and her mission with MISSD are a truly inspirational story of life BEYOND tragedy so listen to this episode today! FOR AN EXTENDED VERSION OF MY INTERVIEW WITH WENDY, GO TO THE DIVORCE & BEYOND PODCAST YOUTUBE CHANNEL WHERE WE CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION INCLUDING: WENDY'S GROUND-BREAKING LEGAL FIGHT WITH THE DRUG COMPANIES WHAT SHE LEARNED ABOUT DRUG TRIALS THAT WE ALL NEED TO KNOW, AND FOR THOSE REBUILDING THEIR LIVES AFTER DIVORCE, HOW WENDY FOUND HER STRENGTH TO THRIVE AFTER TRAGEDY. More information about Wendy Dolin and MISSD:  MISSD (The Medication-Induced Suicide Prevention and Education Foundation in Memory of Stewart Dolin) is a unique 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to honoring the memory of Stewart and other victims of akathisia by raising awareness and educating the public about the dangers of akathisia. MISSD aims to ensure that people suffering from akathisia's symptoms are accurately diagnosed so that needless deaths are prevented. A website, the creation of educational materials and support of conferences will help to raise awareness and knowledge of akathisia and medication-induced suicides. Again, we feel it's important to note that we are not anti-drug, and recognize that prescription drugs can be positive and life-saving for many individuals. We are for truth in disclosure, honesty in reporting and legitimate drug trials. Michelle attended American University as a Journalism major, graduated Hofstra University’s Communications program with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, and then earned a Double Masters Degree in Education from Adelphi University. Originally from New York, Michelle grew up fascinated by the hustle and bustle of New York City. She was aching to “make it” as something, anything, ever since 9th grade. “I remember walking into my first day of high school, and one of my teachers announcing “Whoa, this one is powerful – we’re going to have to watch out for her,” Michelle recalls. That sentence has always stuck with her and has motivated her to always keep moving, harder and faster, toward her dreams. Michelle moved to Miami in her late 20’s where the “second part of her life” began. She married her daughter’s father and they brought beautiful Bella into the world. Years later, Michelle remarried her now-husband Spencer, and they live in North Miami Beach where they are raising their beautiful blended family, sneaking in as many ski trips as possible, going to every concert they can, and truly enjoying this new phase of their lives.  Follow Michelle on Social Media: Instagram:  @themichelledempsey Facebook:  @themichelledempsey *********************************************************************************************** ABOUT THE PODCAST CREATOR AND HOST: SUSAN GUTHRIE, ESQ., is nationally recognized as one of the top family law and divorce mediation attorneys in the country.  She is one of the Co-Chair's of the American Bar Association's DR Section Mediation Committee and is the Founder of Divorce in a Better Way which provides a curated selection of resources and information for those facing divorce and other life changes.  Susan has created a website of curated resources for those facing divorce.  Find out more at www.divorceinabetterway.com. ************************************************************************************************ THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS! What if we told you that you could reunify with your alienated child in just FOUR DAYS?!  Sounds too good to be true doesn't it?  The good news is that in this episode, Susan Guthrie, Esq. speaks with Dorcy Pruter, the Founder of the Conscious Co-Parenting Institute, who has a 100% success rate in recovering children in their 4-day workshop!   Parental alienation is one of the most heartbreaking and intractible issues that can arise in a family and historically, courts, attorneys and therapists have struggled to change the paradigm.  Even when an alienated parent files all the motions and gets all the forensic reports, everything takes so long that it often seems pointless.  That is where Dorcy and her coaches and professionals come in.  They have different programs that are all successful in bringing families back together and allowing targeted parents to reunify with their children - even after years of separation.  This episode is the doorway to hope and a path to regaining their children for so many parents and children who have been out there suffering for years! Some Highlights from this Episode: What is "parental alienation" and why do Susan and Dorcy put "air quotes" around the term? Discover how alienation is actually a form of both child abuse and intimite partner abuse. Hear why some families actually AGREE in mediation to enter into the Conscious Co-Parenting Reunification workshop. Why do you need a protective custody order to get the process started and how do you do that? What needs to happen after the first 4-day workshop to insure that the kids stay recovered? How do you get reluctant children to participate? AND MUCH, MUCH, MORE so don't miss this episode! More about this week's guest, DORCY PRUTER:  The Founder and CEO of Conscious Co-Parenting Institute a Dorcy Inc. Company. Through re-unification coaching and co-parent education, Dorcy provides strategies and solutions for parents and children to reconnect or stay connected during and after a high conflict divorce.  Dorcy has extensive experience in all aspects of Parental Alienation from her own personal experience as a child, as a divorced conscious co-parent of two beautiful daughters, and through relationships where her significant other was being alienated from his child. Dorcy has a Coaching Certification and a Certification in Mediation and High Conflict Resolution, and is Certified to teach several different parenting curriculum including training and working with Jayne Major Ph.D. After teaching for several years, Dorcy has combined some of the best of the training and parenting classes and has written a more powerful new curriculum focused on the challenges facing parents who are struggling through parental alienation and high conflict divorce. "Everything is negotiable.  Whether or not the negotiation is easy is another question."  - Carrie Fisher Whether it is negotiating with the plumber who is going to fix your toilet, your twelve year old over cleaning her room or with your boss for a raise, we negotiate matters big and small every day.  The difference is, when we sit down at the table to negotiate our divorce settlement with our soon to be ex-spouse, the emotions are high and the decisions can be some that will impact our lives and our family for years to come.  We worry that we aren't up to the task but that is where Professor Andrea Schneider can help.  She literally wrote THE book that teaches lawyers how to negotiate. Negotiation Essentials for Lawyers!  In fact, Professor Schneider gives negotiation trainings around the world to law school students, corporations, law firms, court systems, and even other faculty and she is here to help you get ready for your divorce negotiation.  Host Susan Guthrie and Professor Schneider review all the steps you need to take to arrive at the best settlement that you can, from pre-negotiation preparation to how to get your spouse to agree to what you want.  This is essential listening not just for those who are divorcing, but really everyone, because these skills are necessary every day and in every way! Some Highlights from this episode: Find out why you may already have more negotiation skills than you think you do. What happens in a negotiation that gives you a signal that you need to pay attention because this is important? Why are the steps you take BEFORE the negotiation some of the most important and what are they? How do your goals, interests and limits play into your negotiation strategy? What does BOBO stand for and why do you need to know? How is a bicycle like the negotiation process? And so much more that will help you to negotiate a divorce agreement that works for you! There are certain critical moments that we, as leaders, have a chance to change our minds--to think differently in order to lead differently. And when we do, the outcomes for those we lead are extraordinary. In this episode, our Founder and CEO Jenni Catron has great conversation with Lindsey Epperly, founder of Epperly Travel and EntreTravel, about some of the mental shifts she's made while growing her business, investing in her team and developing as a leader.About Lindsey:Lindsey Epperly wandered into the travel industry at the age of 19 by complete accident: she walked into a local travel agency looking for a brochure and walked out with a job planning honeymoons. She built up her book of business while attending the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) and launched her own brand through an entrepreneurship competition. Five years into the role, she desired to begin training and mentoring other agents and decided to launch Epperly Travel, a boutique agency based in Atlanta with a focus on a modern, innovative approach to travel planning. Epperly Travel has recently received the prestigious honor of the Bulldog 100 List, for 2020 representing the fastest growing businesses led by UGA Alumni. Over the course of her career, Lindsey has been recognized as one of Travel Agent Magazine's Top 30 Under 30, Wendy Perrin's WOW List Caribbean expert, and Jezebel Magazine's Trailblazing 10. Lindsey's greatest passion is mentoring others in business and, of course, traveling - usually with her husband, who just last year quit his job in finance to join the Epperly Travel team.  Lindsey is passionate about mentoring and training others in the travel industry, so much so that she and her husband recently launched a separate travel advisor training company called EntreTravel, an online training and certification program dedicated to teaching advisors how to run a successful travel business. Some Highlights from Jenni and Lindsey's conversation:In navigating the transition from technician or practitioner to owner and CEO, Lindsey describes the theme of her leadership growth in the first 5 years of being a business owner as this: “learning to let go of control and let others who are capable step up and do their jobs and do their jobs well without me getting in our own way.”When we realize our own capacity, we can place people in the right spots. When people are in the right spots, they shine. When faced with the unexpected transition of a key employee and being blindsided by the flood of emotions that followed, Lindsey says she realized...We had a culture problemWe needed to prepare for the work-life balance dynamic of working with my soon-to-be husbandIdentify the experienced people whose advice and counsel you want to seek out.“I realized I was good at asking for advice, but I didn't realize how bad I was at asking for help.”On seasons of growth that can feel overwhelming: “Your natural response can be to double down and do more, work more, but the better response is to pour into yourself.”Some team culture shifts Lindsey enacted:Culture shift to eliminate bottleneck and to encourage team members to be open with and learning from each other.Recreate and environment for water cooler conversations in a virtual world.Self-leadership to focus on what only she could do--stepping out of the weeds in client facing role and into teaching, mentoring and training the practitioners.Lindsey created “Coffee and Conversations.” Sent them Epperly Travel mugs and starbucks gift cards along with an invite to meet regularly so she could pour into them as individuals.I am constantly evaluating what can I do to that's best for the company.“In order to grow, you've got to constantly replace yourself.” Shannon Miles from Belay (a busine

However, what matter most is not the cash that you earn, but the cash that you KEEP.  Today, I discuss the vital importance of cost management, and how you can maximize the amount of money you actually keep after the fees and costs are deducted. Some Highlights include: 1.  Advice for new sellers, what expenses are vital, and which ones aren't?  Don't just slash every cost without considering the long term consequences. 2.  Experienced sellers - We often chase shiny objects, special software, or we allow profits to "bleed" away by not managing our banking properly. Loretta Breuning, PhD is the author of Habits of a Happy Brain: Retrain Your Brain to Boost Your Serotonin, Dopamine, Oxytocin, & Endorphin Levels. This is a fantastic book, and I wish I could remember how I came across it. I am honored to have Dr. Breuning on the show today, as we talk about easy changes that everyone can make to feel happier. In this episode of the Clean Eating for Women podcast, we talk about:    How Dr. Breuning started learning about animal neurochemistry and what we share with animals How happy brain chemicals turn on for specific reasons and then turn off The four happy brain chemicals dopamine, oxytocin, endorphin, and serotonin  Some Highlights of This Episode on happy Brain Habits with Loretta Breuning, PhD:  Dr. Breuning was a college professor for 25 years. She took an early retirement and started a new life. Her experience of being a parent and her childhood didn't fit what was in textbooks. At the time, evolutionary psychology was growing. She started reading about how neurochemistry works in animals and what we share with animals. The connections she saw were so obvious. [01:37] Nature is all good is what is being reported. Animals are not happy all the time. The happy chemicals are turned on to promote a specific survival behavior. Then they turn off. The idea that people can do nothing and always be happy is a misconception. [03:50] Dopamine is chemically the same as cocaine. It's the reward chemical. It makes you feel good and releases the energy to go towards your reward. It motivates and connects neurons that connect the next time you have a reward experience. [08:38] Oxytocin is the warm and cuddly chemical. The love or cuddle hormone. This is triggered by trust and touch. When oxytocin is not stimulated it is a warning signal to be aware. We are looking for opportunities that are similar to our previous experiences of trust. In the state of nature, anyone close enough to touch you is close enough to kill you. The drug is sex addiction and ecstasy. [10:06] Endorphin is complicated. It's the runner's high. It's the first one that was discovered and it is the same as opioids. Endorphins evolve to mask pain. Such as when a gazelle is attacked by a lion. Endorphins mask pain for 15 minutes with a feeling humans perceive as euphoria. Exercise addiction is a popular way to stimulate endorphin, but it is not healthy to exercise to the required point of inflicting pain. [13:17] Serotonin is similar to antidepressants. The simple word for serotonin is pride or social dominance. Animals are constantly stealing food and mating opportunities. The mammal brain evolved to constantly compare with others and seek dominance when in that position. It's how your brain interprets your immediate environment in this minute. [16:05] How we are expected to feel humble and dominant all the time. Our serotonin pathways build from things that have built our serotonin levels in the past. We compare ourselves to everyone and then wonder why we don't have that. That thought process will trigger a down feeling. Our serotonin is also triggered by the people around us. [18:58] How our brains have evolved to protect us. During Little House on the Prairie times it was dangerous to go outside in the winter. Staying in the house was safe. Just staying in the house will make it natural for your brain to have anxiety. Fill your life with things you like. If the only things you like are bad for you, you need to fill your life with new likes gradually. [26:19] Stimulating the happy chemicals. Dopamine is stimulated by reaching a goal and novelty. Oxytocin and thinking thoughts that stimulate social trust. Take small steps towards trust. Human groups rely on common enemies to bond. Licence Management Today

Today we have our first ‘Featured’ interview with our guest Maxime Pawlak, Managing Director of Easytrust. We have lined up a number of very interesting people over the coming months to share their expertise and knowledge in the areas of Software Asset Management, Oracle Licensing and influential IT trends in general. Maxime will also feature in our next podcast ‘Licence Management Today – Episode 05′. The full transcript of the interview between Kay and Maxime is on our blog. It was a pleasure to talk to Maxime, who is extremely knowledgeable about the Oracle Compliance marketplace and provides a lot of experiences and know how. Some Highlights below: Maxime: We’re part of the software asset management market, we are specific on that market because we only address Oracle. Usually people, they separate the software management market in the inventory tools and the software management tools and some tools which can do both of them. We can do both of them, we do inventory and we do software asset management but we just do it for Oracle and we can do it right. We can bring up value audits around Oracle licenses problems and solutions. In terms of industry customers we address, we address every single industry who are Oracle customers so it concerns every industry. Kay: Okay, as a non-technical person could you explain to me what the differences between the inventory tools and the software asset management? Maxime: Of course, yes. The inventory tools, it’s all about discovering which are the software installed on the laptops or the servers of customers. It’s about with agents or agent-less technologies connecting to that servers or to that laptops and grab some information about the presence of the software installed or not. This is the inventory part of the market and there are some tools in the market which just do inventory. They are especially focused on that feature. The software asset management part of the market is more about consolidating data which can be provided by inventory tools but it also can be provided by CMDBs or different tools which are already installed in the companies. They provide different features like the ability to put into the tool all the contracts, what other licensing that I have bought. It also provide the ability to get the data from the inventory tools and work on that data in order to reconsolidate this data with the contract information. Most of them, they have catalog with SKUs, which is the unique identifier of the software, and they are the SKU catalog and they can match this SKU of the software which has been bought with the software which has been discovered. Providing that, they can provide some compliance position by comparing what you have bought and what you have deployed. They also provide some capabilities about optimization, the software and the licenses. Sometimes they provide some process and processing of your software asset management policies in terms of workflows or integrations with third party tools. It’s a little bit different on the market. Kay: It sounds like an inventory tool like yours should be part of any SAM programme, would that be correct? Maxime: Yes, the software asset management programme could be run without any tools, but as you know you need to have correct data in order to be able to do software asset management so you will definitely have a question of “should I buy an inventory tool” or “do I already have some tools in my company that I can use or extend in order to grab this information I already have somewhere, but I don’t use?” Maxime: Well, yes, what’s important to understand about the Easytrust tool is that it has been verified by Oracle, so we’re part of support vendor verification program. Kay: What does that mean as opposed to a tool that’s not verified by Oracle? Maxime: It means for database because this programme is only for database option and management packs, the tool can be used as a source of data in case of audits. You just have to push one button and you export the equivalent of the Oracle’s scripts results. It means the process is much more easy to run this audit and you are much more secure about the usage of that tool compared to another tool which is not verified. Kay: Oracle will take the data from your tool and rely on that data? Maxime: Yes, exactly. I just want to clarify a confusion which is usually made. Data which is taken by Oracle in the verification process, it’s a kind of raw data, it’s not calculated computer data. So one verified tool is not equivalent to another verified tool because what interests customers is not the raw data, it’s the computer data, the calculated data. There are many, many huge differences in the markets between different inventory tools. Some are generalists, we do on the Oracle and we claim to be able to do it very accurately. We’ve seen that on several customers on which we work. We’ve seen different tools, there is all the provide, it’s a generalist approach. The very specific Oracle rules on every kind of server, on every kind of operating system, every version of it, it’s very hard to implement a tool which to complete and accurate compute of that data. I have to say that, we don’t provide the records during the audit, we don’t provide the calculated data, we provide the raw data. It means that there could be a difference between the results of what Oracle tells at the end of the audit and what the tool says. It’s all about it, the quality of the tool, even if it has been verified by Oracle, it’s a good point, it’s a good start because the verification process tells you at least what are all the data you need to grab and to control from the inventory part in order to propose a proper inventory. It’s not enough, then you have to implement the compute that data to provide how many licenses do I need. For now, even Oracle LMS is doing that kind of job manually using the results of the scripts or using the exports of the verified tools. Kay: Great. What about the cloud? Are you seeing take-up with this and does this present new challenges? Maxime: [The Cloud…] this is changing many things in terms of licensing for Oracle. They are specific rules for Amazon and Azure, also for Oracle public cloud and for private clouds as it goes with virtualization, this has also a huge impact on the licenses and it brings new challenges, but it also brings great opportunities. We now put the cloud insights in every review we do. We start to propose to our customers to migrate part of their infrastructure to the public cloud. It could be development and tests, for example, environment, it could be the Amazon or the Oracle cloud and we also propose them to change their infrastructure and to create while they change, a private cloud because it’s how people do it now, it’s all about automation. We don’t want DBAs to do the same tasks a hundred times a day, we just want to automate everything and it’s a big change in the Oracle future.
