2021 has been the year of the musical. Whether it was Encanto, Vivo, tick…tick…BOOM, Annette, Cyrano, West Side Story, and many more, audiences have experienced a resurgence of the once staple genre of Hollywood. But for many, including myself, the musical that still stands out over the rest this year came out during the summer, Warner Bros' In the Heights. Based on the Broadway hit musical created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the film is set over the course of a couple of days in the mostly Latinx based neighborhood of Washington Heights, where people are navigating the modern world and fight to obtain their sueñitos, their little dreams that will change their lives forever. With this, we many follow Usnavi, played by recent Golden Globe nominee Anthony Ramos, is saving enough money to go back to his home in the Dominican Republic and start fresh. But leaving isn't easy when the community he is in, surrounded by family and friends, rely on him to move forward as much as he needs them. With awe-inspiring choreography, impeccable performances by this talented ensemble, and lavish cinematography by Alice Brooks, In the Heights provides wonder not found in many modern musicals today. In large part, this has to do with the direction of Jon M. Chu, whose vibrant energy and passion for musicals comes through in almost every moment we see in the film. Chu, known for starting his career making dance movies with Step Up 2: The Streets and Step Up 3D, followed by blockbuster sequels with G.I Joe: Retaliation and Now You See Me 2, he found his biggest success in the 2018 worldwide smash hit, Crazy Rich Asians. With that film he not only made the highest grossing romantic comedy of the 2010s, but landed major awards nominations including a SAG Ensemble, thus making a commercial, celebrated film that all audiences can enjoy while given a vehicle for Asian actors to be seen by audiences in a light that they hadn't been seen since The Joy Luck Club. Therefore, when it was announced he was attached to In the Heights, it made all sense in the world that he would carry his sincere, detailed approach over to this mostly Latinx, yet universal story. In a recent conversation with Chu, I talked to him about his passion for the project, his love of the genre, what he carried from making the film's extravagant musical numbers like "9600," and what he has learned, good and bad, from his experience post the film's release. With his schedule getting bigger by the day as he starts preparations adaptation of the film version of the monumental musical sensation, Wicked, it was nice to sit down and speak with Mr. Chu about his process and passion to tell diverse stories. His affection for this world and time with Miranda, Ramos, the rest of the cast, and crew still shows in how he speaks, displaying the same feeling the audience has when watching his film, that of an unforgettable experience. In the Heights is available to stream on HBO Max, as well as to own or rent on Blu-ray and all VOD platforms.

When she was working at Pier 1 in New Jersey, she made the acquaintance of a set decorator who came in to shop at the store, and that was the very first time she even heard about what it was. She was an aspiring architect and went to school for Interior Design, but she struggled with finding a job in her field. Her journey into set decorating started by answering an ad for a job opening for a salesperson at a prop house, and she found her way into set decorating from there. Regina was able to find a way to use her interior design training to decorate a fantasy world through production, rather than actual people's real-life, permanent homes. In this episode, Regina talks about the process a set decorator goes through from being hired for a job, to breaking down the script, characters, and time period, to meetings with the production designer, building a team, working with a budget, and more! What you can learn in the episode:The job of a set decorator and all it entailsExpectations vs. Reality of working in productionThe importance and necessity of a good notebookCONNECT WITH REGINA:InstagramFOLLOW JESSICA:Instagram | Twitter | Facebook | LinkedInWEBSITE:TheProductAgent.com_________________________Music: Bewitched JeannieLynneMusicNeoSounds.com - Royalty Free Music, Stock Music library. _________________________

This week we are continuing the conversation around money with Entrepreneur Aja George. Aja spent a decade in the dance industry working with people like Keke Palmer, Omarion, Chris brown, P!nk, Miley Cyrus, and Justin Bieber. He had the opportunity to work on prestigious award shows such as MTV’s VMA’s, Nickelodeon’s TCA’s, the Grammy’s and the Oscar’s as well as featuring in movies like Never Say Never and Step Up 3D. But, he retired from the dance industry when he realized that a livable “residual income” was not possible and that he could never show someone else a proven system on how to achieve the same level of success that he had. After a few years in retail while searching for his niche and passion, he realized that the people in the industry he spent nearly a decade in had a common flaw. Lack of financial education. He finally opened up his own business where he would educate families on how to create a family bank and how to build a family business to leave behind a legacy for generations to come. Since opening his own business and entering the world of entrepreneurship, he’s been able to help dozens of people start their own businesses and teach families about the rules of money and how to be able to leave legacies behind. In this episode you will discover: - What it is to recognise a paradigm that might be a constraint to earning - How Aja challenges and identifies commonly held money scripts - What is 'Prosperity Consciousness' This week's resources Discovery Call https://www.businessofarchitecture.co.uk/discoverycall Aja George https://www.linkedin.com/in/aja-george-aa8624120/

The School of Greatness with Lewis Howes

COMMUNICATE YOUR VISION. Being an effective leader is difficult. Some do it through fear. Some do it through understanding. And others lead with love. You could be super demanding and scary and get what you want. But is that the kind of life you want to lead? Probably not. Often, leading in a way where you understand other people’s concerns will be the most beneficial to you. There’s a lot you can learn from others. Ask yourself: how can you bring people together in a way that satisfies their needs as well as your own? For this Five Minute Friday, I revisited a conversation I had with the legendary director Jon Chu where he shared how he communicates his vision on set. Jon Chu directed the films Crazy Rich Asians, Step Up 2: The Streets, Step Up 3D, and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. Jon graduated from the USC School of Cinema-Television where he won the Princess Grace Award, the Dore Schary Award presented by the Anti-Defamation League, the Jack Nicholson directing award, and was recognized as an honoree for the IFP/West program Project: Involve. Learn how to enlist others in your vision and lead with love on Episode 805. In This Episode You Will Learn: The kind of leader Jon wants to be (1:00) The importance of synergy in creativity (1:30) The most important thing Jon has learned about communicating his vision (1:45) How to talk to people who have concerns about your vision (2:30) If you enjoyed this episode check out the show notes and more at http://lewishowes.com/810 and follow at instagram.com/lewishowes.

Laza Morgan was Literally born and raised in a musical cradle. He was heavily influenced by the reggae music of household and the records made by his father, Jamaican music legend and hit maker Denroy Morgan, who stormed his way onto American radio in the early 1980's with his club anthem “I'll do anything for you”. With his family's strong Jamaican roots and frequent trips to kingston and St.Thomas as driving inspirations, it didn't take long for Laza to completely embrace the world of music. His experiences in Springfield and Brooklyn influenced him heavily too as he began to incorporate Hip Hop, R&B and Pop into his musical lexicon. fter graduating from high school, Laza and two of his siblings formed the Hip Hop/Reggae group LMS. They toured the world with Morgan Heritage, the internationally recognized roots reggae band founded by his father and several of his brothers and sisters.2010 proved to be the culmination of many years of hard work that Laza had put into his craft. He signed with Elektra records in February. Laza was then featured on british pop sensation Alexandra Burke's hit single “Start Without You” which topped the UK and European singles charts in September. He was also featured on Flo Rida's hit single “21” from the album “The Only One”. His forthcoming Elektra debut yielded a hit single “This Girl” that was featured in Disney's feature film Step Up 3D and its smash soundtrack. “This Girl” generated over 8 million hits on youtube and created a buzz that span the globe. Laza's throwback second single “One By One” was a hypnotic love song featuring dancehall idol Mavado, who is now signed to the We The Best music group.

It’s another commentary, but a historical one! The most important thing to note about this episode is that four of us watched all three Step Up movies simultaneously and recorded a commentary that can go along side any of them. So basically anyone can choose whichever Step Up movie and use this commentary to help supplement it. This is a first in podcasting and commentary history, I believe, so feel free to embrace it. Aaron is joined by Alan Aguilera (watching Step Up), Jordan Grout (watching Step Up 2 The Streets), and Ken Noffsinger (watching Step Up 3D with Aaron) to talk about each film, at the same time. Frankly, this was an amazing idea, very difficult to record, but completely worth it to give anyone the opportunity to watch any of the Step Up movies and have a jokey commentary for it.

Police had to taser Michael L. Brea to subdue him before bringing him to a Brooklyn hospital with a guard. Michael L. Brea, who has appeared on episodes of Ugly Betty and in Step-Up 3D, brutally murdered his mother with a Samurai sword while screaming biblical passages, police confirm. Police were called to Brea's Brooklyn, New York apartment after neighbors heard screaming around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday morning. "I hear the brother chasing her [his mother] through the house and he's just saying a bunch of [Bible] passages like, 'Repent, Repent, Repent,'" neighbor Gregory Clare told local television station WPIX 11 News. "I heard him chasing her through the house and I hear a loud scream and so I have my father call the cops, call 911." Brea, who also appeared in Coke commercials, had decapitated and stabbed his mother, 55-year-old Yannick, multiple times. Police said he was emotionally disturbed and they had to taser him to subdue him. They described the apartment as “extremely bloody.” He was taken to Kings County Hospital with a police guard. NYPD spokeswoman Officer Doris Otero tells The Hollywood Reporter, "They found a black female, Yannick, with multiple stab wounds on her body. EMS pronounced her DOA." "I had just dozed off to go to sleep and then I woke up to somebody screaming," said Bernard Bent, another resident. "It sounded like a lady's voice and after a while I just didn't hear the woman's voice again." Brea, who was described by neighbors as "quiet," was into martial arts. He has a twin brother, and also owned a Subway restaurant shop, giving away 300 sandwiches for free on Thanksgiving in 2008. "I remember growing up and my mother was always feeding people who were less fortunate," Brea once told Haitian movie site BelFim.com. "My parents raised me to always share and to give charity in the name of God."
