A world leading data visualisation expert talks about leading the global Human Reference Atlas initiative and how collaboration enables researchers to think far bigger - - - “Oftentimes it's said that if you want to go fast, you go alone, but I don't think you can go far this way. If you want to go far, you have to go together.” So states Katy Börner during this episode of Campus Talks, in which we ask her about her ground-breaking project aimed at mapping all the anatomical structures and human cells in the human body, the Human Reference Atlas (HRA). This project relies on the input of thousands of researchers across multiple disciplines from all over the world, including several other ambitious physiological ‘atlasing' efforts which are working in parallel to the HRA. The Victor H. Yngve Distinguished Professor of Engineering and Information Science at Indiana University, Katy is also a founding director of the Cyberinfrastructure for Network Science (CNS) Center and she is a curator of the international Places & Spaces: Mapping Science exhibition. Is "Fully Booked" Really the Goal?Being fully booked feels like success. And in many ways, it is. But if you are the only one delivering your service, every dollar you make still requires your direct time and energy. That's not a business. That's a job you created for yourself. In this Maggie's Moment, I'm challenging one of the most common — and costly — mindsets I see in service-based business owners: the belief that fully booked is as far as they can go.In This Maggie's Moment:Why being fully booked is a milestone, not a destinationThe real opportunity that owning a business gives you — and why so many people never tap into itThe limiting beliefs that keep talented, successful business owners stuck at their income ceilingA real client story that shows how a path to scaling always exists — even when it seems impossibleWhy not exploring how to scale isn't playing it safe. It's leaving wealth on the table. This One Is For You If...You're at or near fully booked and not sure what comes nextYou've told yourself your business "can't be scaled"The idea of building a team or changing how you operate feels overwhelmingYou haven't yet allowed yourself to ask — but what if I could?Connect with Maggie: https://stairwaytoleadership.com

He has spent more than 25 years in payments, fintech and company building, including as part of the founding team behind SumUp. There, he helped build a simple idea into a global payments company used by millions of small businesses. Today, he is back at the very beginning of the founder journey, working with early-stage entrepreneurs at EWOR and helping them avoid some of the mistakes he made himself. In this episode, Petter looks back at the early days of SumUp and explains why the first three years can shape so much of what comes after. He talks about why zero to one is still his favourite stage, why speed mattered so much at SumUp, and what it cost him personally to run at that pace. One of his biggest reflections is also one of the least glamorous: they might have built the company faster if they had slept more. The conversation also turns to Europe's place in the global startup race. Petter shares why he thinks European founders need to build with a bigger ambition from the start, and why American investors can sometimes create the kind of pressure the ecosystem needs. He also talks about why obsession can be such a powerful signal and what it will take for more global companies to be built from Europe.Don't forget to give us a follow on Instagram, Linkedin, TikTok, and Youtube so you can always stay up to date with our latest initiatives. I talk about why most of us vacillate between dreaming too small and imagining things that feel unrealistic, and we'll unpack the mindset that keeps dreams small and debunk the fear that thinking big means ignoring reality.   Watch the episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/gFz4KKea128   Get full show notes, transcript, and more information here: https://jodymoore.com/573   Follow me on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/jodymoorecoaching/

John MacDonald: Time to think bigger than solar panels on the roof

Canterbury Mornings with Chris Lynch

Whatever happened to this country's ability to think big on the energy front? And why is it that we're not doing the same with solar energy and why are our politicians relying on households to do the heavy lifting? I mention thinking big intentionally. Because that's what we did back in the 1970s and 1980s, especially with the big hydro power schemes. These days, though, instead of thinking big about energy we're tinkering around the edges. The latest example is Labour's solar energy policy which, like National's policy which came out the other week, is all about getting more households going solar. Essentially, both policies focus on giving people the chance to take out a cheap loan to pay for solar panels and batteries. Some banks already offer this. But you have to have a mortgage with them to qualify. Labour's policy has a few extras. Such as option for renters to use plug-in panels, which are all the rage in some overseas countries, apparently. But I reckon that, if our politicians are really serious about using solar to get cheaper and more reliable power supplies, then they need to be thinking bigger than just solar panels on the roof. And we should be investing in state-owned solar farms. Instead of relying on people to take out loans and put panels on top of their houses, the government should have some skin in the game and get into the business of mass solar generation itself. If it was good enough for us to build big hydro power stations back in the day, the state should be doing something similar and building massive solar farms. You could say it's already doing a bit of that, with its shareholding in the big power generators. But I think it could and should do more. Because, as much as Labour and National will tell us that it's all about dealing with the cost of living and reducing household power bills, that's not the real issue. The real challenge is ensuring we have enough power to keep the lights on at the likes of big manufacturing plants. That's the real challenge facing us. And that's where solar can play a vital role. But we're not going to do that with you and I getting a cheap loan and adding a few panels and a battery to the house. Which is why I think large-scale government investment and ownership of big solar farms would be an absolute no-brainer. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Is there a line, a boundary, a goal... that once you get to you'll be "done"? Or, is there always MORE? Stop for a moment and think about it... The curse of wanting more, is real. We are taught that the sky is the limit and you've gotta hustle and grind and keep pushing and to never settle, etc. and so on, but if you think about it you'll realize that not knowing when enough is enough is a curse that we all must deal with.Think of it in a question form: Where is the line between growth and greed? If we're not careful the "rat race" can be literally never-ending (well, it'll end when we have used up our lives and they end), if we're not careful consumerism/materialism define us because we didn't define what and when enough is enough. If we don't stop and think about this, we'll always want MORE and happiness and success and contentment will always stay just of reach. Does any of that make sense to you? Using examples like praying through major purchases, he emphasizes letting peace "umpire" your heart (Colossians 3:15) and rejecting poverty thinking that keeps you from your calling. In this episode, I'm breaking down the idea of industry niches and why I chose a different path for my business. Instead of narrowing my focus to a single industry, I've built success by centering on core values, and it's made all the difference. You'll hear why understanding who you serve on a deeper level (their mindset, values, and behaviors) matters more than what industry they're in. I'll also share practical ways to apply this approach to scale sustainably, reduce taxes, and build long-term wealth. Tune in for a conversation that challenges the traditional "find your niche" advice and invites you to build success on your own terms.
