On the last episode of the  Relative Profitability podcast, you got to hear all about how Kyle Houston turned his life around from convicted drug felon to legendary businessman and author. Our interview continues with Kyle this episode — you get to hear about his role as a legendary husband and father and how that role intersects with his roles in the business world. Kyle met his wife just seven short months after being released from prison. He shares how she is the backbone of his entire story — his “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” He also credits his daughters as his number one redeeming quality and relates that while he is “pretty good at all the other stuff,” he is a “great daddy.” Listen to the show to hear all about the balance Kyle struck between his home and work life and to also hear some great advice he has for all you young entrepreneurs out there! Highlights from this episode The story of how Kyle met his wife. [2:23] How failure is an important part on the road to success. [5:15] How to deal with negative emotions in business. [6:13] How to start finding balance between work and life. [8:27] What Kyle’s book is all about. [12:12] Get comfortable with being uncomfortable Kyle tells young entrepreneurs that everything can’t feel comfortable. If you are going to do something big, you have to get really good at being able to handle your mistakes. You will fail way more times than you succeed, but that is just part of the path.  Kyle said it best:  “If you don’t have the stomach for failure, then you shouldn’t have the appetite for success.” Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water Kyle also mentions that many people think there is no value in guilt and shame, but he credits them both — as well as his insecurity — as the primary drivers in his early success. You have negative emotions for a reason. Don’t dwell on them or let them bring you down — let them drive you instead! Listen in to hear more of Kyle’s own story on how these things propelled him forward! What is it you really want? Rarely is it more money Kyle’s advice to the person that is running non stop is that there is more to life than hustling. At some point there has to be balance. He says to take a real look at yourself, discover what it is you really want and get real about THAT. He wants you to figure out what enough is for YOU. Kyle thinks there is nothing more powerful in business than the guy with the chip on his shoulder that’s ready to run and super hungry, but the caveat is that at some point you have to live your life too.  This episode is definitely packed with some great advice, but you also want to  hear all about Kyle’s bestselling book, his next steps in the business world, and what he deeply wishes everyone to find in this life!  Resources & People Mentioned Kyle’s Book: Patchwork Junkie Connect with Guest Name Kyle Houston Connect with Kyle on Facebook Connect with Kyle on Instagram Connect with Kyle on Twitter Connect With Rich Daughtridge www.Daughtridge.com  Follow on Facebook Follow on Instagram Follow on Linkedin Follow on Twitter Subscribe on YouTube Subscribe to Relative Profitability on Apple Podcasts, Spotify Audio Production and Show notes byPODCAST FAST TRACKhttps://www.podcastfasttrack.com

I welcome the one and only Kyle Gray as my guest for Episode 7. An internationally acclaimed spiritual teacher, and a fellow member of the Hay House family, Kyle is the bestselling author of Angel Prayers, Raise Your Vibration and Angel Numbers. He’s also super cool, super relatable and a little bit boojee - breaking the mold of what it means to be spiritual. Kyle had his first spiritual experience at just 4 years old, and began working with spirit at a very young age. In this episode he reveals the astonishing experience that led him to his calling and how his journey has unfolded from then until now. We dive deep into an introduction to angels, and Kyle defines exactly what the word means to him, describing them as ‘God in drag’. He even reveals how to start working with angels for anyone who’s not sure where to start. We cover angel numbers too, and what each number specifically means, so you can start noticing them in your life and deriving meaning from them. As Kyle is so relatable, we mull over how it is totally possible to be spiritual and live a ‘normal’ life. Kyle believes that we are each becoming our own gurus and teachers, so there’s no right or wrong when it comes to following your spiritual path. How do you become a successful multifamily syndicator when you’re not old enough to order a beer? What does it take to overcome objections around being too young and too inexperienced—and raise more than half a million dollars in capital for your very first deal? What’s it like to achieve financial freedom before you turn 21? Kyle Marcotte is an entrepreneur and multifamily real estate investor with a 119-unit portfolio valued at $5.5M. He was a pre-med student and Division I soccer player at UC Davis when Kyle learned about the potential to generate passive income with real estate. The Episode in 60 Seconds Kyle Lacy, CMO of Lessonly, joins us via Zoom from Indianapolis, Ind. to talk marketing/sales alignment, customer experience, leadership during COVID-19, and golden llamas. Kyle brings over 12 years of experience in marketing strategy and digital operations and is obsessed with how technology influences and changes human behavior. Additionally, Kyle has written three books: Twitter Marketing for Dummies, Branding Yourself, and Social CRM for Dummies. This interview delves into: The importance of storytelling in marketing and branding A unified approach to sales and marketing Differentiating your company in some way outside of your product’s features The power of customer experience Lessonly’s approach to COVID-19 challenges The mentality of a successful CMO Our Guest Kyle Lacy leads marketing for Lessonly, a training and enablement software company based in Indianapolis, Ind. Kyle's team touches everything you can imagine when it comes to marketing, including demand generation, content marketing, branding, design, messaging, go-to-market development, and thought leadership. He drives growth at Lessonly using the knowledge he has gained while working at a venture capital firm, the largest software company in the world, and the fastest-growing email marketing company. Kyle has authored three books that have been published in five languages and seven countries. The books include Twitter Marketing for Dummies, Branding Yourself, and Social CRM for Dummies. Kyle has spent the last seven years traveling the world speaking at marketing and technology industry events and has been recognized as as one of Indiana’s Forty-under-40 by the Indianapolis Business Journal, Anderson University's Young Alumni of the Year, and TechPoint's Young Professional of the Year.  Show Notes Check out Lessonly CEO Max Yoder’s book Do Better Work. Lessonly sends this book to prospects throughout the entire sales cycle. Your best stories come from your customers. They are your best salespeople. Companies either approach the sales funnel with the power of customer experience or a feature push. Where do you stand? A Unified Approach to Sales and Marketing The traditional sales funnel has radically transformed over the last five years. We’ve seen this self-service sales framework begin to develop in marketing where people are doing a lot of research independent from any sales conversations. Kyle Lacy’s marketing team transitioned from being only top of funnel to being full funnel, touching 100% of everything happening at the company. “The team felt renewed. They were more positive. They felt challenged in a good way. And then because of that, because they had the feeling that they were accomplishing something, we started to see success.” - Kyle Lacy As its sales and marketing teams grew, Lessonly then focused on organization and process development to adjust alignment. The True Value of Brand Experience in B2B Tech If you don’t differentiate in some other way outside of features, you’ll just be another demo. Try telling a story that’s a little bit different, a bit more human. A few things Lessonly has done to humanize the sales cycle: Sent prospects Donors Choose gift cards to give to a classroom in need in their city, so kids can do better work, too  Developed a 13-page coloring book to help working parents entertain their kids during quarantine Sent employees, prospects, and customers golden llamas (spray painted by Kyle, himself!) modeled after Lessonly’s mascot, Ollie Llama. Lessonly receives most of its customer feedback from a weekly personal and leadership development newsletter sent by Lessonly CEO Max Yoder. Kyle on sending prospects Golden Llamas… “We don’t talk about Lessonly at all as a product, but it’s a first touch for us. It works extremely well because it’s different, and it has nothing to do with our product.” - Kyle Lacy #SprayPaintingLlamas   Here’s an unboxing of Lessonly’s Golden Llama by Sendoso. Lessonly has also launched a word search, a board game called Llama Land for their software users, and a Lego Llama. (And if you haven't seen Ludacris freestyle the children's book, Llama Llama Red Pajama, check it out.) Kyle Lacy's Mentality as A Successful CMO What’s the essential mentality for a Chief Marketing Officer to be successful? Timeframes. “Marketing directors think in quarters. Chief Marketing Officers should think in years when it comes to strategy development.” - Kyle Lacy Make your customer the hero. To achieve that, avoid a constant focus on feature development and growth. Instead of focusing on the top of the funnel, CMOs and marketing leaders should focus on two things: 1. Owning a revenue number (and a seat at board meetings) 2. Influencing 100% of company decisions that are related to money Lessonly's Approach to Leadership During the COVID-19 Crisis When attempting to make decisions on an unknown, you must over-communicate with your team and over-index on empathy. Kyle Kingsbury is the office guinea pig at Onnit and he tries pretty much everything that might optimize the human experience – but, lately, the most important things haven’t been the latest and greatest biohacks. His focus has been on self-management practices that help him manage his mindset and his nerves. It’s been a constant journey to return to stillness and find peace – a path that all of us could benefit from walking. Our monkey minds freak out because they feel like there’s so much to do and not enough time, but inevitably, things get better. We get wrapped up in what the hurdles are and we forget to appreciate what we learn from overcoming them. A mindset shift can help kick off the journey: Everything in life is happening for you, not to you. It’s exceedingly simple, but truly believing that will help you develop a greater mastery over life and your experience of it. A life that doesn’t include the purpose of learning and evolving is just going to be filled with existential suffering – but none of us need to experience that, especially not when there are people like Kyle out there testing next-level human optimization and life mastery techniques then shouting what works from the rooftops.   Topics Discussed In This Episode: Kyle’s recent plant medicine experiences Returning to stillness to find peace Using hindsight as foresight Anxiety is time wasted We always have a choice over how we experience life What the heck Penis Envy Mushrooms are Using plant medicine with reverence and intention Not all mushrooms are created equal When Kyle took a heroic dose of mushrooms with his dad How adding MDMA to a mushroom cocktail can add to the experience Why MDMA will probably be legal for therapy in just a matter of months & the transformative healing effects it can have Nicotine is the greatest nootropic on Earth My one experience with MDMA (that ended with a high-speed chase) Hunting for your meat – because life takes life What Kyle learned about life and himself from his most recent hunting experience Why it benefits to understand the paleolithic evolution of humankind   More about this episode. Kyle Kesterson can easily be labeled as an adventurer, an entrepreneur, a digital nomad, a storyteller, and fearless.  However, he prefers to be "Unlabeled," as his Instagram shows.  If he had a mantra to guide his life by, it would be "I wonder where this road goes..."  He is wise, well-traveled, and a unique example of true fearless.  I had the privilege of meeting him on my recent trip to Israel and I absolutely had to have him on to share his wisdom with all of you. In this episode, I sit down with Kyle in his van (aka "The Bromfmobile") and discuss his childhood, life as a founder and entrepreneur and how becoming self-aware of his own fear propelled him to a TEDx talk (among many other speaking engagements) and a radically awesome, fearless life.   This is a hefty episode full of many insights and realizations you'll not want to miss.   Connect with Kyle: Instagram | Twitter | KyleKesterson.com   Show Notes: -Kyle's past and how he learned to lean into his fears. -How sharing his past has allowed him to crush all his fears in the future. -How vulnerability begets vulnerability. -How to improve your relationships by "throwing out little seeds" of communication when you think of people. -What his definition of authenticity is. -Why there shouldn't be any guilt for not having goals, dreams, and ambitions. -How a Google form sent Kyle on many unique adventures. -What Kyle would love everyone to ask themselves.   *Learn more about Are You Being Real at AreYouBeingReal.com/181
