Never Leave Love Out of Leadership with Joel Manby, Ep #5 Over a 25-year span, Joel Manby has not only been the CEO of 4 different companies, he also wrote THE book on love as a leadership practice in the workplace. In part one of my interview with Joel, we touch on his roles in the automotive industry, Herschend Family Entertainment, and SeaWorld. You’ll want to hear how all of these roles helped shape the ideals he outlines in his book, Love Works. Joel had a humble upbringing in Battle Creek, Michigan. He attributes athletics with helping to shape his teamwork and leadership skills. His parents’ stress over financial issues also helped form his outlook on money and career. He realized that while money was not everything, he wanted to make sure he never suffered the same kind of financial stress in his adult life that his parents had. Listen in to find out how his early life led to his amazing career and ultimately to the writing of his book! Highlights from this episode Joel’s life purpose. [3:37] One of the most important lessons Joel learned at Harvard. [12:38] Why Joel believes in taking managed risks. [13:02] Joel’s early experiences with balancing family life with work. [17:18] How theme park experiences provided the framework for his book. [19:55] From Saturn to Saab After realizing that professional baseball was not going to work for him, Joel decided to go to Harvard Business School on a deferment program and received the Sloane Fellowship — a real honor at that time. Joel experienced a pivotal moment when at Harvard that helped him with his professional life. He started at Harvard with a feeling like he didn’t belong. He ultimately became the class clown but says his solid thinking, among other things, is what won over time. Gradually, he learned a lesson that will be valuable for many students and young entrepreneurs today. Join us to hear the funny anecdotes Joel shares that tell the story of his business school career! In exchange for his tuition at Harvard, Joel worked for General Motors after graduation, helping them start Saturn Corporation. From there, he moved to Saab, where at 34, he was the youngest general manager GM had ever hired. Joel was able to help turn the brand around and grow their sales by 65% and help each exclusive Saab dealer increase their sales by a whopping 200%! It’s a truly fascinating story you will not want to miss! From autos to theme parks As Joel’s professional success kept growing, so did his responsibilities within the organization. It took a toll on his home life. He knew something had to change. A series of events led to his departure from Saab to a startup, which he relates may not have been the best decision. This experience taught him to count the cost before you move from one wrong situation to another. Make sure you are going TOWARD something and not just AWAY from the situation you are in. During this time, Joel was also on the board at Herschend Family Entertainment and was recruited to be Jack Herschend’s replacement as CEO. Joel had already been feeling what he described as angst — he felt there had to be a better way to lead. He felt certain there was a way he could mix faith with his job but he had not seen any models for that. While on the board at Herschend, he saw there actually WAS a different type of leadership, one driven by caring — or leading with love, as he calls it now. You’ll want to hear the story of this major turning point in his career! From theme parks to book author Joel credits the Herschend Family with being the role model he was looking for. He was able to focus the rest of his career on leadership with love. Love, in this case, is not the emotion but the verb. It’s our behavior — trust and respect and dignity even in the face of frustration. Joel says it is unbelievable the transformation that can happen when you put as much focus on love as on financials. The notion many corporations have is that love is a feeling — that it’s too soft and won’t work is incorrect. He believes that love as a BEHAVIOR brings out the best in people and in profitability. In fact, when Herschend put the Love Works principles in place, employee engagement levels rose over 45 to 50%! Joel says he has seen both ways of leadership — in fact, he’s lived both — and he knows which one works. Listen and learn some of the fascinating stories in Joel’s life that led to writing his book! There’s no one correct way to craft an offer that will sell like crazy. And although it’s tempting to follow a method that works for someone else, you know best how to give the most value to your people and get the highest return possible. Joel Erway is the creator of The Webinar Agency and the High Ticket Courses, both of which help coaches, course creators and consultants semi-retire with high-ticket courses. And as a believer in both low ticket and high ticket offers, Joel has some particularly unique insight on what it takes to make low ticket work. On this episode of the Low Ticket High Impact podcast, Joel and Justin dig into reverse-engineering the low ticket to high ticket flow, practicing what you preach (or, in this case, sell) and why failure shouldn’t mean the end of your low ticket offer. Listen in for a very different perspective on finding the time and place for low ticket products. You’ll Learn Why Joel takes inspiration from Tesla in designing the relationship between his offers How the price attached to your offer sets the expectations of the people buying it, and why that’s to your advantage How Joel’s upcoming book came into being and how he’s using it to bring in more and more qualified leads And much more! Favorite Quote “I have a list, right? So, I have that asset already built, which is another main struggle that I see people who are just getting started out... So, I just launched my group and I think I might have sent one email to my list and had a flood of people join it. My audience was ready for something, it had been a while since I made them an offer. They all knew about power offers, they loved them. So, for me to call and say, ‘Let's do a deep dive workshop on power offers,’ it was a no-brainer. I did a very, very quick post in my group and then just a checkout page. There was no sales page. It was just, ‘Here's what I want to do’ in a Facebook post, and then send them straight to the checkout page with no sales copy.” - Joel Erway Connect with Joel Erway The Power Offer Workshop Joelerway.com How to get involved Justin DeMers launched his simple, low ticket workshop, Click Go Live, without a large audience – and sold over $200K in four months. Now, he wants to teach other business owners his method. If you liked this episode, be sure to subscribe to Apple Podcasts and leave a review. Today’s conversation is with Joel Greenblatt, Founder and Managing Partner of Gotham Asset Management. Since founding Gotham in 1985, Joel and his partner Robert Goldstein have developed the firm into a large asset management company, well beyond the traditional hedge fund model and offering mutual fund products for the retail investor. Throughout his career, Joel has been a very successful adjunct professor here at Columbia Business School and has also published several successful books. Growing up, Joel intuitively learned about business from his father, a shoe manufacturer. From these dinner table lessons, his biggest takeaway was the idea that stocks are not simply pieces of paper that bounce around and to remember you own a piece of a business. After completing his MBA at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Joel started his investment career and quickly progressed from analyst to partner, and soon started Gotham where he has successfully bridged theory and practice for over 30 years. On this episode, Joel and I talk about his introduction to Ben Graham and value investing, why he switched from law school to a career in the investment world, his early role in risk arbitrage, why he decided to start his firm, how he turned a tough negotiation with Mike Milken into a win for Gotham, why he advocates for a value-based approach to investing, and so much more! Key Topics: What Joel learned from his father about business (2:46) How Joel developed his core perspective on investing (3:13) Why Ben Graham’s stock-picking rules resonated with Joel (4:35) How Joel ended up writing an article for the Journal of Portfolio Management while a student at Wharton (5:51) How trading options at Bear Stearns helped Joel realize he wanted to pursue an investment-related career (7:23) Joel’s experience as the only analyst at a startup hedge fund (7:58) Why Joel’s early role in risk arbitrage was a good foundation for his Special Situations course at the Heilbrunn Center (9:28) The lucky situation Joel found himself in when he went to Wall Street (10:51) Why Joel decided to start his firm (12:26) Joel’s tough negotiation with Mike Milken (13:17) The influences that shaped Joel’s initial investment approach at Gotham (15:01) How Joel succeeds without specializing (19:09) The advantage of investing off the beating path (19:41) Why Joel decided to become an author (23:29) How writing and teaching have helped Joel become a better investor (24:23) Why it returned the outside capital from Gotham (25:38) Joel’s investment philosophy (28:02) Joel’s career-long rebellion against the efficient market hypothesis and portfolio management theory (28:49) The fascinating results from Joel’s benevolent brokerage firm (35:11) Why the strategy from The Little Book That Still Beats the Market can be difficult readers to implement (37:48) Why Joel advocates for a valuation-based approach to investing (42:14) The prudent approach most people should take when investing in the market (48:22) And much more! We’ve all vaguely heard about data breaches like Equifax or Cambridge Analytica but what does it mean for us? This week we’re discussing why information security is important and who should be held responsible. [2:40] - What you need to know about Cambridge Analytica.[3:45] - How we got here, the nudging theory (link has 10 common examples).[6:00] - Why user generated content is so valuable from a marketers perspective.[13:00] - Things to consider about data security.[15:00] - For example: Do you know what banks do with your data? [18:00] - Facebook’s “parking ticket” fines for data security negligence. [19:30] - What is GDPR and whether we need similar regulation in North America (link is everything you need to know about GDPR in 5 minutes).[22:45] - What is net neutrality?[27:30] - Why Joel pays for online news publications.[35:25] - Will communist countries be more successful in the 21rst century? [40:00] - Do our current incentives motivate personal improvement? (Link to Farnam Street article on the power of incentives.)[42:00] - Who is responsible for protecting our data?[45:30] - The Politician on Netflix.[48:30] - A Game of Giants post by Tim Urban explains tribalism. Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others - Winston Churchill 📚 - Yuval Harari - Sapiens & 21 Lessons for the 21rst CenturySci-fi predictions of what happens without data protection:📚 - Snowcrash by Neil Stephenson / 1984 by George Orwell / Brave New World by Aldous Huxley TLDL 1. Cambridge Analytica is important because it’s an example of how vulnerable our data is, how powerful it can be for whoever owns it, and how insignificant the punishment currently is for not taking correct precautions. 2. Data rights are crucial to protecting our ability to make decisions. If you don’t believe us, consider the Stanford experiment which generated an algorithim that can detect whether you’re gay or straight with 91% accuracy. It might be hard to believe data is persuading us to make decisions, but what about scenarios where it’s making the decision for us? 3. If you believe protecting your data is important start here. Also, please consider supporting Net Neutrality. - https://www.battleforthenet.com/DISCLAIMERJoel Shackleton works for Gold Investment Management. “What does forgiveness look like? What does loving your neighbor look like? I think … one of the reasons we have this physical creation is so that God could demonstrate what forgiveness looks like, what neighborliness looks like. And guess what? Forgiveness does not look like a farm that has to use more and more drugs all the time to keep its animals healthy. Forgiving is not a farm that has to use more chemicals to keep its soil healthy or keep the bugs away. A forgiving farm is one that has resilience.” Joel Salatin is the self-proclaimed ‘Christian libertarian environmentalist capitalist lunatic farmer’ behind Polyface Farms, a $3M operation in Swoop, Virginia, serving more than 5,000 families, 50 restaurants, 10 retail outlets and a farmers’ market with its salad bar beef, pigaerator pork, pastured poultry and forestry products. Feature in both The Omnivore’s Dilemma and Food, Inc., Polyface is known for its environmentally-friendly farming practices modeled around the natural systems of the biological world. Joel also serves as the editor of The Stockman Grass Farmer, the writer of the Pitchfork Pulpit column in Mother Earth News, and the author of 12 books, including The Marvelous Pigness of Pigs: Respecting and Caring for All God’s Creation and Everything I Want to Do is Illegal: War Stories from the Local Food Front. Today, Joel joins Ross and Christophe to share his practice of duplicating nature’s patterns on the farmscape. He offers his take on the flaws in the environmentalist approach to climate change and where the Christian faith community, libertarians, and economists fall short. Joel also describes how the regulatory environment is prejudiced against small-scale operations, exploring the way oversight stifles innovation. Listen in for Joel’s insight on food choice as a human right and learn how to take responsibility for your own consumer choices around food! About the guest: Joel Salatin, 61, calls himself a Christian libertarian environmentalist capitalist lunatic farmer. Others who like him call him the most famous farmer in the world, the high priest of the pasture, and the most eclectic thinker from Virginia since Thomas Jefferson. Those who don’t like him call him a bio-terrorist, Typhoid Mary, charlatan, and starvation advocate. He co-owns, with his family, Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia. Featured in the New York Times bestseller Omnivore’s Dilemma and award-winning documentary Food Inc., the farm services more than 5,000 families, 50 restaurants, 10 retail outlets, and a farmers’ market with salad bar beef, pigaerator pork, pastured poultry, and forestry products. When he’s not on the road speaking, he’s at home on the farm, keeping the callouses on his hands and dirt under his fingernails, mentoring young people, inspiring visitors, and promoting local, regenerative food and farming systems. Salatin is the editor of The Stockman Grass Farmer, granddaddy catalyst for the grass farming movement. He writes the Pitchfork Pulpit column for Mother Earth News, as well as numerous guest articles for ACRES USA and other publications. A frequent guest on radio programs and podcasts targeting preppers, homesteaders, and foodies, Salatin’s practical, can-do solutions tied to passionate soliloquies for sustainability offer everyone food for thought and plans for action. Joel Friedlaender, founder of Cliniko, joins us this week for another episode of the Grow My Clinic podcastHe’s going to be talking about his personal journey towards creating Cliniko, the advantages of doing remote work and having a remote team, and some new features Cliniko will be having in the future. We hope you enjoy this episode!QUOTES FROM THIS EPISODE“One of the fascinating things about Cliniko is that it is so user-driven and user-based; there’s a strong community there and you seem to be very responsive. And that probably speaks to the type of company that you’ve built.”“Every company has a different context. You can try to copy how another company behaves, but they have different customers, different size, different origins - whatever it might be, there’s a whole bunch of constraints and reasons that impact how that company behaves.”“If I look worldwide, we get hundreds of applicants everytime we offer a job.”“Transparency and being open and honest with you clients wins everytime. When you’re trying to protect and hide things from a clinic point of view, clients can sniff a rat a mile away. Back when my podcast first launched, I interviewed entrepreneur and fellow podcaster, Joel Brown, but the sound quality was so bad that it never aired. That’s why today I’m even more excited that we were able to connect one more time to have, in my opinion, an even better conversation. From a very young age, Joel possessed an empowering mindset. Practicing his entrepreneurial skills at the young age of 7, he has long followed the principle of making money work for you – and not the other way around. Now for the last seven years, Joel has been running his motivational website, Addicted2Success (and more recently his podcast), where he encourages others to find their 10-year vision and the values that align with it. In this episode, we deep dive into what a 10-year vision entails, how to find and create one and how faith has amplified Joel’s business and life. You don’t want to miss this inspiring and insightful talk. -- Question Highlights: What’s one of your superpowers? What is one regret you have? What’s one of your favorite books? Who is someone who has changed your life? Can you tell us where you were before you became an influencer? What is the “formula” behind success? Where did your core value of contribution come from? Why is the Bible your favorite book now and what has shifted inside of you? How does this return to faith affect what you teach today in business compared to what you taught a couple years ago? What can we learn from Jesus and the way He ran his “business” that applies to how we run businesses today? Can you be spiritual and still desire wealth? How can you help others find their vision? In This Episode We Talk about: How Joel got his start as an entrepreneur Making money work for you How Joel created Addicted2Success.com Joel’s formula for success The importance of contribution The relentless pursuit of truth Why Joel stepped back into his faith The four areas to Joel’s structure to test any world view (origin, meaning, morality and destiny) Spirituality and wealth Steps to figuring out your 10-year vision and tips to check in on it Why vision and values go hand in hand And so much more… Joel’s Thoughts… “I never felt like there were ceilings, the sky was the limit.” “Inspiration is way more powerful than motivation.” “Just because it’s a personal preference doesn’t mean it’s true.” “He didn’t come to be popular, He came to speak truth.” “Your vision disciplines you. It chooses your friends for you. It teaches you what to say yes to and what to say no to. It gives you direction in your life.” “I’m not big on the law of attraction; I’m big on the law of intention.” “You have to be committed to mastery if you want to achieve a high level of success.” -- Joel Brown is the founder of the #1 motivation website, Addicted2Success.com and has achieved over 143 million views worldwide over the last 7 years. He was offered multiple million dollar offers for his website and turned them all down to continue to grow his company. Joel has a social media following of over 2.6 million across all social media channels and he travels the world teaching 1000’s of people how to stand in their vision for success so they can turn their dreams into a reality. Joel is featured in the new hit movie “Think & Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. Joel is also the host of the Addicted2Success podcast that has achieved more than 2.4 million downloads featuring thought leaders such as Tony Robbins, Deepak Chopra, Les Brown, Jack Canfield, Gabby Bernstein, Gary Vaynerchuk, Simon Sinek, Grant Cardone and many more. https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/pignessofpigs In today's podcast, I interview - a self-described “Christian-libertarian-environmentalist-capitalist-lunatic-Farmer”. We discuss his new book and much, much more. Salatin is an American farmer, lecturer, and author. He raises livestock using holistic methods of animal husbandry, free of potentially harmful chemicals, on his Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia, in the Shenandoah Valley. Meat from the farm is sold by direct-marketing to consumers and restaurants. In high school, Salatin began his own business selling rabbits, eggs, butter and chicken from his family farm at the Staunton Curb Market. He then attended Bob Jones University where he majored in English and was a student leader. He graduated in 1979. Salatin married his childhood sweetheart in 1980 and became a feature writer at the Staunton, Virginia newspaper, The News Leader, where he had worked earlier typing obituaries and police reports. Tired of “having his stories spiked,” he decided to try farming full-time after first getting involved in a walnut-buying station run by two high school boys. Salatin’s grandfather had been an avid gardener and beekeeper and a follower of J. I. Rodale, the founder of regenerative organic gardening. Salatin’s father worked as an accountant and his mother taught high school physical education. Salatin’s parents had bought the land that became Polyface after losing a farm in Venezuela to political turmoil. They had raised cattle using organic methods, but could not make a living at farming alone. Salatin, a self-described “Christian-libertarian-environmentalist-capitalist-lunatic-Farmer” produces high-quality “beyond organic” meats, which are raised using environmentally responsible, ecologically beneficial, sustainable agriculture. Jo Robinson, the author of Pasture Perfect: The Far-Reaching Benefits of Choosing Meat, Eggs and Dairy Products From Grass-Fed Animals (2004) said of Salatin, “He’s not going back to the old model. There’s nothing in county extension or old-fashioned ag science that really informs him. He is just looking totally afresh at how to maximize production in an integrated system on a holistic farm. He’s just totally innovative.” Salatin considers his farming a ministry, and he condemns the negative impact on his livelihood and lifestyle of what he considers an increasingly regulatory approach taken by the agencies of the United States government toward farming. Salatin now spends a hundred days a year lecturing at colleges and to environmental groups. And now from Christian libertarian farmer Joel Salatin is a new book - a clarion call to readers to honor the animals and the land, and produce food based on spiritual principles: . This book is an important and thought-provoking explanation of how by simply appreciating the marvelous pigness of pigs, we are celebrating the Glory of God. As a man of deep faith and student of the Bible, and as a respected and successful ecological family farmer, Joel Salatin knows that God created heaven and earth and meant for all living organisms to be true to their nature and their endowed holy purpose. He intended for us to respect and care for His gift of creation, not to ravage and mistreat it for our own pleasure or wealth. The example that inspires the book's title explains what Salatin means: when huge corporate farms confine pigs in cramped and dark pens, inject them with antibiotics and feed them herbicide-saturated food simply to increase profits, they are not respecting them as a creation of God or allowing them to express even their most rudimentary uniqueness - that special role that is part of His design. Every living organism has a God-given uniqueness to its life that must be honored and respected, and too often that is not happening today. Salatin shows us the long overlooked ethics and instructions in the Bible for how to eat, how to shop, how to think about how we farm and feed the world. Through scripture and Biblical stories, he shows us why it's more vital than ever to look to the good book rather than corporate America when feeding the country and your family. Salatin makes a compelling case for Christian stewardship of the earth and how it relates to every action we take regarding our food. He also opens our eyes to a common misconception many Christians may have about environmentalism: it's not a bad thing, and definitely not just the province of secular liberals; it's really a very good thing, part of heeding God's Word. During our discussion, you'll discover: -Why Joel calls his new book the Marvelous Pigness of Pigs...[7:10] -How Christians abuse God's creation, and what's wrong with the average church potluck...[9:10] -Examples of how even the Bible is chock full of animal rights...[19:17] -Why Christians should be devoted to soil development...[22:00] -How a church and church property could be used to actually hydrate the landscape...[33:15] -How a church property could be used to provide food and water for the entire community...[40:05] -Why Joel believes that God would not want us to create GMO foods...[45:20] -What a beautiful, Christian farm and food system should look like...[55:08] -What it looks like to be "farming with faith" vs. "farming with fear"...[60:50] -And much more! How To 4x Your Conversion On Live Webinars w/Tim Paige | #024 Two successful webinar experts from upstate New York, sharing knowledge and hosting this podcast episode. Joel’s co-host is Tim Paige — vacuum salesman turned webinar host. Aside from generating more than ten million in revenue for his webinar clients, he’s more than quadrupled webinar conversions by making a small adjustment to his Q & A session. Join Joel in one of his favorite episodes to date where they discuss strategies you can apply to your webinar to effectively 4x your conversions. Tim’s high-converting webinar hiccup story provides for some good entertainment too. Episode Discussions: Building authority quickly The benefits of having a brief heroes journey The Q & A strategy that 4x’d Tim’s webinar conversions Promotions that work for cold traffic webinars “Offer anxiety” and how to eliminate it to increase sales What to do when you’re uncomfortable pitching an offer upfront The worst way to start a relationship with your audience Why revealing the offer price upfront works How to answer questions throughout the webinar without stopping every 5 minutes Deciding between 60 and 90-minute webinars and which is more effective Positioning yourself to sell other people’s products as a webinar host Using webinar scripts vs. not using webinar scripts Why short pitches can be more effective than long pitches Joel’s new offer structure that’s testing very well Converting hiccups into sales during a webinar Headset twins: Why Joel and Tim love their webinar headsets Tim's Story: -Used to be a traveling musician -Got into sales and sold $3,000 vacuums door-to-door -Studied online marketing and started a podcast w/ John Lee Dumas -Was hired by Clay Collins, CEO of Leadpages, to do a webinar -Hosted his first webinar for Clay after he got sick and ‘outconverted’ him - Has hosted over 1,000 live webinars and generated more than 10 million dollars in revenue. -Now owns his own business doing the same thing for other clients. [8:19] Promotions that work well for cold traffic webinars: lead with the price and substantiate everything afterward vs. hiding the price up front. [8:46] Tim's ‘heroes journey’ is only 5 minutes long in his webinars and tells them the entire offer upfront to avoid offer anxiety. [9:40] "Offer anxiety": When webinar attendees wonder about the cost of the offer for the duration of the webinar instead of focusing on the content. [14:51] If you're uncomfortable giving the offer upfront, at least give them the price upfront. [16:04] When you give the price upfront, they're focusing on the content and the product itself to figure out what value they'll receive for the price. You have a longer opportunity to present the offer. [16:53] How did you 4x your conversions? Tim split tested webinars to 2 large audiences. “I answer questions throughout the whole webinar, I don't wait until the Q & A.” Day 1 - didn't answer questions until the Q & A. Day 2 - answered questions throughout the webinar. On day 2, he quadrupled sales. [18:41] The only time it's difficult to answer questions throughout the webinar content is if the webinar is a story from start to finish. [20:01] Answer questions relevant to whatever topic is being discussed at that point in the webinar. Leave non-relevant questions to answer at the end. [21:03] "I'm seeing right now on average that 95% of the people that show up at the start of the webinar will stay for 75 minutes or longer — which is insane."- TP [21:16] On average, Tim's clients have 90-minute webinars but more are trending toward 60 minutes. It depends on the client, topic, and content. [22:12] "What we're finding is shorter is almost always better in terms of conversions."-JE [23:12] Positioning as a webinar host for other people's products. “When I'm presenting, if there's a story that's relevant to the brand or founders story, I never try to turn it into my story. I think that's disingenuous...I will not tell something that's not true.” [25:36] Average price points for Tim's webinars: lowest price point is $397 and highest is $2K. 70% cold traffic, 30% retargeting. [29:25] Joel uses scripts for his personal webinars. Tim doesn't write or script his presentations. His slide decks are typically 140 slides and contain pictures or phrases that trigger his points. [33:32] "I always tell my clients, 'You cannot insult your customer's intelligence, especially if this is a cold traffic webinar because most people aren't going to buy on the webinar. They’ll come back and buy later. Do not ruin that relationship"-JE [33:57] When you go into your pitch, how does it differ from a normal-style offer creation? "I use the ending pitch as an opportunity to expand." If it's not a well-known product, he'll reference it as a solution throughout the webinar. This works well for software products. Tim's beginning pitch is 3-5 minutes and ending pitch is 10 minutes. [37:40] Tim’s Q & A strategy: Start with 2-3 buying questions: Address the biggest objection first (with Leadpages, it was, "Can I use this with more than one website?”) 2 more buying questions 2-3 non-buying questions based around the content More buying questions ("Can you tell me more about your program/product/software?") and deep dive. Get to Q & A as quickly as you can Answer buying questions Answer content questions Deep dive into product. [39:19] If you use your Q & A like an opportunity to overcome objections, I found that that's kind of the magic that closes those last-minute sales."-TP [39:34] Joel is testing a new offer structure internally that’s worked very well. “We position the objections within the content of the webinar.” [40:59] What's the highest conversion rate you've ever had live on a webinar and what was the price point? Tim answers with his hiccup's-during-a-webinar story. "Like — BAD hiccups. It was brutal!". Converted at 50% and the price point was $577. [45:22] “I believe we use the same headset — Sennheiser PC 8. It’s all I use.” Inexpensive but sounds great on webinars. Lead conversion. It’s the lifeblood of any business because success isn't possible if you can’t make clients or customers out of those who express interest in your product or service. There are many ways you can go about lead conversion, but one of the best is webinars. On this episode of Just The Tips, Dean and I chat with a guy we’re super impressed with, Joel Erway. Joel is the founder of The Webinar Agency and has perfected his own recipe for successfully converting leads into customers using webinars. On this episode you’re going to hear Joel describe his journey from broke to boom through the use of webinars and how he has leveraged that expertise to help businesses of all types use webinars to increase profits. From broke to business success all on account of webinars. Joel Erway’s story. Joel Erway already had a sales background when he was first introduced to the online space. He invested the money to go through one of the top masterminds available - Russell Brunson’s $10K program - and left the program telling Russell he didn’t know what he was talking about. Fast forward a few years: Joel came back to Russell with his tail between his legs and an eagerness to learn what he needed to know in order to make himself successful in online business. It was during that season he learned about webinars, got his hands dirty building them, and saw immediate success. Joe’s story is fascinating so I hope you take the time to hear him tell it. Do you know what a “lead in” offer is? More importantly, do you know how to use it effectively? It’s very unlikely that anyone can put together a webinar and simply blast it out over social media to great success. You have to understand where your prospects are at in the buying cycle as well as where the market, in general, is at in relation to your product or service. That’s how you develop the ideal “lead in” to get people interested. If you skip this step you’ll be putting on your webinars to the sound of crickets and your bottom line will suffer. In this conversation Dean and I chat with Joel Erway about lead ins for a significant part of the conversation. In his mind, it’s the vital thing you have to nail in order to make your webinar profitable. Listen and learn, my friends. Joel is the man when it comes to webinars. Will webinars work for your business? As we talked about the power of webinars on this episode, Dean asked Joel what he would say to a person who believes that webinars won’t work for their particular business. Joel laughed and said that people who say that are usually the same people who say the internet is dead or that email marketing doesn’t work anymore. His point is that webinars are a proven, effective tool for lead capture and conversion. The principles that make webinars work for one type of business can be applied to any business, large or small - ecommerce or service-based. Find out why Joel is so confident that every business should be using webinars, on this episode. Can a webinar be used to sell this makeup brush kit? Joel Erway weighs in. Dean is in the middle of developing and launching a new product bundle - a makeup brush kit - by means of a webinar. His approach is to create an educational webinar that teaches women how to use all 10 of the brushes provided in the kit he’s selling. He believes that great instructional material coupled with a great product offering should result in big sales. On this episode, Dean asks Joel Erway to weigh in on his approach and Joel has some specific things to say about how the campaign could work. This is as practical as it gets, so be sure you listen. Outline of This Episode [2:10] Why Joel is the webinar king and what he sees as the key to making money with them. [4:40] Where Joel’s passion for webinars came from. Joel Boggess is among those I credit for helping me to launch this podcast. He’s the guy people call when they’re feeling stuck, under-challenged or overwhelmed. Joel teaches people how to find productivity, meaning, and success. Originally from San Antonio, Texas, Joel earned his undergraduate degree at Texas Tech University, an MBA from Amberton University, and a Master’s in Counseling. His latest book, Finding your Voice, hit the #1 spot on Amazon for success, happiness, and in the self-esteem categories. His podcast, ReLaunch has passed the 1.5 million listen mark. Joel and his wife Pei live in the Dallas/Fort-Worth area, and have two dogs; a Golden Retriever retired therapy dog, Bubba, and a Golden rescue, Happy. TWEET: Joel Boggess - Doing is the New #Planning, on this episode of #ChasingDreams When you want to get started in a new endeavor, here’s what you should do. When you’re chasing your dreams you will need help. Nobody can go it alone and nobody should go it alone. Today’s guest, Joel Boggess suggests that you look around in the network of people you already know to see if there is anyone successfully doing what you want to do. If so, reach out to them and ask them if you could get some advice on how they would get started if they were in your shoes. If you DON'T see anyone in your contacts who is successfully doing what you want to do, then you need to ask those you know if THEY know anyone who is doing what you want to do. You’ll be surprised at the number of introductions you could receive and the momentum you’ll gain from this simple approach. Find out more about how to get started chasing your dreams from Joel Boggess, on this episode of Chasing Dreams. Be careful when you share your dreams with others - not everyone is trustworthy. Everybody is excited about their dreams when they first come up with them - and the temptation is to go around telling everyone about the great things you’re going to do. But Joel Boggess says that you need to be careful about sharing your dreams indiscriminately. The reason is that not everyone is going to be as optimistic or excited about your dreams as you are. In fact, you will have some people - even those close to you - who are pessimistic and discouraging about your dreams. Be cautious. Don’t share your dreams with people who are going to drag you down. On this episode, Joel shares how he makes those judgments and when he does share his dreams with others, so be sure you listen. TWEET: Be careful when you share your #dreams with others - not everyone is #trustworthy When you launch anything of value it’s going to take significant work to get going. When Joel Boggess decided to make the switch from radio to podcasting he produced 8 episodes that didn’t go anywhere. In order to make a success of the podcast, he had to change his mindset about what he was doing and take full responsibility for the success of the show. It wasn’t up to his listeners to share his episodes. It wasn’t up to his fans to help him get the show in front of others. It was HIS responsibility and nobody else’s. Once Joel made that mindset shift everything changed. What is YOUR dream that YOU have got to take responsibility for? What are the small but important changes you need to make in the way you get it moving in the right direction? Listen to this episode of Chasing Dreams. You’ll be inspired by the way Joel got his podcast going and will likely have some creative ideas of your own bubble to the surface as a result. Doing is the new planning. Once you get this concept everything changes. When Aimee asked Joel Boggess what one piece of advice he would give to people (like you) who are chasing their dreams, Joel unloaded a gold nugget. Here’s what he said: Doing is the new planning. As he went on to explain, it became clear that what he means is that with every step you take, you open the doors of opportunity that enable you to see what the NEXT step needs to be. Then you have the responsibility to move forward toward THAT new goal. But if you never take the first step, if you never DO anything with it, your options beyond that will be limited. You can find out how to apply this “doing is the new planning” concept to your dream chasing, on this episode of the podcast. TWEET: #Doing is the new #planning.
