Okay, so you’ve decided you want to get better at standing up for what you believe. You’re going go hone your skill at defending your faith and sharing the Gospel. And you’ve discovered the world of apologetics—the discipling vindicating Christian truth against challenges and objections—but now you’ve hit a roadblock… because you’ve discovered (gasp) there are different ways of going about this. See, on the one hand you’ve got “classicalists” who swear by the Kalam Cosmological Argument, and on the other hand you’ve got “evidentialists” who do a great job of giving evidence to prove the “case for faith.” But then on the other other hand, you’ve got presuppositionalist guys like Joel Settecase, who don’t seem to get along well with either of the other groups. So who’s right? Which apologetics method is best? This episode is going to give you the answer. Or at least, it will give you more grist for the mill of your mind, as you work out for yourself what school of apologetics thought you want to align yourself with. That’s because today two Christian apologists are going to have a robust dialogue about methodology, each one presenting his own preferred method and interacting with the other. Specifically, you’ll find out… The backstory of Dean Meadows, how he got into apologetics and what prompted him to launch the Daily Apologist. What exciting work the Daily Apologist is up to right now, and how you can get involved. Why Dean takes a more evidentialist approach to defending Christian truth, why he uses classical arguments—and why he isn’t a presuppositionalist. Whether Joel and Dean think that evidentialism and presuppositionalism are irreconcilable. How Joel "switched teams” from classical and evidentialism to practice #datpresup. Which approach is more biblical, and which one has cooler hashtags. Much more. Joel’s guest today is Dean Meadows. Dean serves as the Executive Director of The Daily Apologist. He holds a B.A. in Theology from the Bear Valley Bible Institute International; B.S. in Bible/Ministry from Amridge University; and an M.A. in Christian Apologetics from Biola University. He's currently pursuing a MSc in Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Dean served in the United State Marine Corps Reserve for six years and deployed to Iraq in 2006. He is married to Hillary Meadows and they have two kids with very pretty names: Nora-Grace and Wren-Mercy. It’s time to dive into this fascinating topic. Get ready to think. How is it possible that somebody who (in his own words) literally couldn't lead a silent prayer, become a Hall of Fame speaker and a speech coach to Verne Harnish, author of Scaling Up and Rockefeller Habits? In today's episode we speak with Joel Weldon about how and why he became Verne's speaking coach, because Verne has been public speaking for decades, so why would he now need someone to help him with speaking publicly? But that's a story he saves until the end of the podcast. Plus, the episode isn't about Verne, it's about Joel, a man who brings life to the phrase: find a job you love and never work another day in your life.Joel is 80 and still working full time. He shares some of his backstory: how he thought he would never be the kid that would go on to speak in public. He didn't go to college, he didn't think he was smart enough. He was a former construction worker who was too shy to speak in public and too shy to sell, until he had his transformational awakening. This is a really fantastic conversation, much of which you can put to work today or tomorrow or whenever you listen to this podcast. There are so many takeaways that can change your business in big and small ways. As Joel so succinctly said: “Let me give you 22 words. If you had to take everything that I've learned about communicating, speaking, and put it in one sentence, here it is - speak to your audience about what they need, in an organised way they can follow and get yourself out of the way.”For more gems like this, download and listen to this week's episode. “If God is real, where’s the evidence?” This is one objection that I hear a lot as a Christian apologist. And on the surface, it seems like a totally fair question. After all, we live in a scientific age, a rational age (at least, supposedly), and we have come to expect a certain standard of evidential accountability from those who make truth claims. And certainly, the existence of God is a truth claim. However, what if the question of God’s existence is not something that can be answered using evidence, but rather is a a prerequisite for even believing that evidence is meaningful at all? In other words, what if atheists, skeptics and unbelievers have the issue completely backwards? That’s what Joel Settecase and Sye Ten Bruggencate discuss in this first-ever episode of “Answer Anyone with Sye Ten Bruggencate.” Specifically, you’ll find out… What apologetics is. What evidence is. Why the very use of evidence presupposes God’s existence. How a presuppositional approach to apologetics can answer the question of God’s existence best, and why Joel and Sye don’t typically use that phrase. How Joel first started using Sye’s material back in the day, and what was the response of his youth group students. Much, much more. This episode is packed! Dr. Gould has been treating obstructive sleep apnea in Manhattan Beach for several years before he was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 2015 himself. His research into the underlying cause of this strange new disease led him to create his new “Sleep Restoration Program” designed to change the public’s perception of the ever-growing epidemic of insomnia and sleep apnea. His upcoming book “The Modern Epidemic” describes a new organic health paradigm regarding treating autoimmune disease and chronic illness organically without pharmaceutical medications. The program focuses on sleep as an anti-aging, and natural regeneration. His ultimate goal is to transform the world of insomnia, snoring and sleep apnea with his unique sleep restoration program. There’s no one correct way to craft an offer that will sell like crazy. And although it’s tempting to follow a method that works for someone else, you know best how to give the most value to your people and get the highest return possible. Joel Erway is the creator of The Webinar Agency and the High Ticket Courses, both of which help coaches, course creators and consultants semi-retire with high-ticket courses. And as a believer in both low ticket and high ticket offers, Joel has some particularly unique insight on what it takes to make low ticket work. On this episode of the Low Ticket High Impact podcast, Joel and Justin dig into reverse-engineering the low ticket to high ticket flow, practicing what you preach (or, in this case, sell) and why failure shouldn’t mean the end of your low ticket offer. Listen in for a very different perspective on finding the time and place for low ticket products. You’ll Learn Why Joel takes inspiration from Tesla in designing the relationship between his offers How the price attached to your offer sets the expectations of the people buying it, and why that’s to your advantage How Joel’s upcoming book came into being and how he’s using it to bring in more and more qualified leads And much more! Favorite Quote “I have a list, right? So, I have that asset already built, which is another main struggle that I see people who are just getting started out... So, I just launched my group and I think I might have sent one email to my list and had a flood of people join it. My audience was ready for something, it had been a while since I made them an offer. They all knew about power offers, they loved them. So, for me to call and say, ‘Let's do a deep dive workshop on power offers,’ it was a no-brainer. I did a very, very quick post in my group and then just a checkout page. There was no sales page. It was just, ‘Here's what I want to do’ in a Facebook post, and then send them straight to the checkout page with no sales copy.” - Joel Erway Connect with Joel Erway The Power Offer Workshop Joelerway.com How to get involved Justin DeMers launched his simple, low ticket workshop, Click Go Live, without a large audience – and sold over $200K in four months. Today’s conversation is with Joel Greenblatt, Founder and Managing Partner of Gotham Asset Management. Since founding Gotham in 1985, Joel and his partner Robert Goldstein have developed the firm into a large asset management company, well beyond the traditional hedge fund model and offering mutual fund products for the retail investor. Throughout his career, Joel has been a very successful adjunct professor here at Columbia Business School and has also published several successful books. Growing up, Joel intuitively learned about business from his father, a shoe manufacturer. From these dinner table lessons, his biggest takeaway was the idea that stocks are not simply pieces of paper that bounce around and to remember you own a piece of a business. After completing his MBA at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Joel started his investment career and quickly progressed from analyst to partner, and soon started Gotham where he has successfully bridged theory and practice for over 30 years. On this episode, Joel and I talk about his introduction to Ben Graham and value investing, why he switched from law school to a career in the investment world, his early role in risk arbitrage, why he decided to start his firm, how he turned a tough negotiation with Mike Milken into a win for Gotham, why he advocates for a value-based approach to investing, and so much more! Key Topics: What Joel learned from his father about business (2:46) How Joel developed his core perspective on investing (3:13) Why Ben Graham’s stock-picking rules resonated with Joel (4:35) How Joel ended up writing an article for the Journal of Portfolio Management while a student at Wharton (5:51) How trading options at Bear Stearns helped Joel realize he wanted to pursue an investment-related career (7:23) Joel’s experience as the only analyst at a startup hedge fund (7:58) Why Joel’s early role in risk arbitrage was a good foundation for his Special Situations course at the Heilbrunn Center (9:28) The lucky situation Joel found himself in when he went to Wall Street (10:51) Why Joel decided to start his firm (12:26) Joel’s tough negotiation with Mike Milken (13:17) The influences that shaped Joel’s initial investment approach at Gotham (15:01) How Joel succeeds without specializing (19:09) The advantage of investing off the beating path (19:41) Why Joel decided to become an author (23:29) How writing and teaching have helped Joel become a better investor (24:23) Why it returned the outside capital from Gotham (25:38) Joel’s investment philosophy (28:02) Joel’s career-long rebellion against the efficient market hypothesis and portfolio management theory (28:49) The fascinating results from Joel’s benevolent brokerage firm (35:11) Why the strategy from The Little Book That Still Beats the Market can be difficult readers to implement (37:48) Why Joel advocates for a valuation-based approach to investing (42:14) The prudent approach most people should take when investing in the market (48:22) And much more! Joel got his first book bought and then it bombed. Why you can’t play the “if” game. Joel wanted to make $20,000 a month and became obsessed with direct response marketing. Joel Gascoigne is the Co-Founder & CEO @ Buffer, the social media management tool that makes it easy for businesses and marketing teams to schedule posts, analyze performance, and manage all their accounts in one place. They had raised both seed and Series A rounds but last summer, spent $3.3m to buy out the majority of their Series A investors, making them much more independent. Joel now runs Buffer as a profitable business with $2m in profit in 2017 and $3m in 2018. Before co-founding Buffer, Joel co-founded OnePage and StartupMill and was a web developer in the UK. In Today’s Episode You Will Learn: 1.) How Joel made his way from web developer in the UK to founder of Buffer, in 2018 a business that did $3m in profit? 2.) What does Joel mean when he says that "fundraising is a bigger decision than most people realise"? At what moments does Joel believe that the founders are no longer the boss? When did Joel feel he was no longer the boss? What does Joel wish founders knew more about the VC process and mechanics? What questions must they ask VCs? 3.) Would Joel agree with Anand Sanwal, previously on the show that "VCs foie-gras their startups", forcing synthetic growth? What is the right way for founders to respond to this pressure? How did Joel personally handle the pressure? How does Joel assess and analyse the current VC ecosystem? What would he most like to change? 4.) There was a time when individuals did not want Joel to be CEO, how did Joel deal with that? What would Joel advise founders in the same position? What are the right steps to take? Joel then lost his co-founder, how was that process for Joel? What does he know now that he wishes he had known at the beginning of that process? How does he look to retain that level of support and guidance from someone other than a co-founder? 5.) What does Joel mean when he says, "leaders must lean into transparency"? Are there any limitations to being overly transparent? Now as a profitable company, how does Joel think about profit sharing with the team? What does profitable status allow the team to achieve and do that is not normally possible for VC backed co's? Imagine an all-encompassing platform that allows you to keep track of all your blood, stool, saliva, and urine testing results, along with self-quantified data from wearables, and even pulls in all health testing you've done in the past as part of a single dashboard. And imagine that platform could then use highly advanced artificial intelligence to tell you exactly how to eat, how to supplement, how to exercise and much more. All from the comfort of your home, without needing to drive to an expensive lab for multiple blood draws or fill out confusing paperwork. That's exactly what the brand new company has the money, technology and data to do, and so I decided it was high time I sat down with their two chief scientists to learn exactly how this process works. I've already sent in my own stool using their Gut/bio shotgun stool sequencing test that we discuss in this episode. My guests are Dr. Joel Dudley and Dr. Chris Mason. These guys are highly qualified and wicked smart. Dr. Dudley is currently Associate Professor of Genetics and Genomic Sciences, Endowed Chair of Biomedical Data Science, and founding Director of the Institute for Next Generation Healthcare at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Prior to Mount Sinai, he held positions as Co-founder and Director of Informatics at NuMedii, Inc. and Consulting Professor of Systems Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine. His work, published in >120 peer-review publications, is focused at the nexus digital health, artificial intelligence (AI), scientific wellness, and healthcare delivery. His work has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Scientific American, MIT Technology Review, CNBC, and other popular media outlets. He was named in 2014 as one of the 100 most creative people in business by Fast Company magazine. He is co-author of the book Exploring Personal Genomics from Oxford University Press. Dr. Dudley received a BS in Microbiology from Arizona State University and an MS and PhD in Biomedical Informatics from Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Christopher Mason is currently an Associate Professor at Weill Cornell Medicine, with appointments at the Tri-Institutional Program in Computational Biology and Medicine between Cornell, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Weill Cornell Medicine, the Sandra and Edward Meyer Cancer Center, and the Feil Family Brain and Mind Research Institute. He is also Director of the WorldQuant Initiative for Quantitative Prediction, which bridges prediction methods in finance with genomics. His work spanning >140 peer-reviewed publications has been featured on the cover of Science, Nature, and Cell journals as well as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, CNN, Forbes, and other major media outlets. Dr. Mason was featured as a speaker at TEDMED and he was recognized in 2014 as one of the “Brilliant Ten” by Popular Science magazine. He completed his dual B.S. in Genetics and Biochemistry (2001) from University of Wisconsin-Madison, his Ph.D. in Genetics (2006) from Yale University, and then completed post-doctoral training in clinical genetics (2009) at Yale Medical School while jointly a post-doctoral Fellow of Genomics, Ethics, and Law at Yale Law School (2009). The Twenty Minute VC: Venture Capital | Startup Funding | The Pitch
Joel Monegro is Founding Partner @ Placeholder.VC, one of the new venture capital partnerships that invest solely in crypto assets and more specifically in decentralized information networks. Prior to founding Placeholder, Joel spent three years at Union Square Ventures developing the firm's blockchain investment thesis and portfolio. Before USV, Joel started the Digital Economy Department at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the Dominican Republic, a government office in charge of developing the country's national and technology agenda. In Today’s Episode You Will Learn: 1.) How Joel made his way into the world of VC with USV and what created his love of crypto and led to his leaving USV to found Placeholder? What were some of Joel's biggest investing lessons from his time with USV? 2.) How does Joel approach portfolio construction in building out a crypto portfolio? How does the use of reserves and building positions change when comparing VC to crypto? Why does Joel believe that the most interesting place to invest in crypto is in the assets themselves, rather than the companies? 3.) When does Joel think we will see institutional capital begin to move into the space in a meaningful way? What needs to happen/change for this institutional interest to materialize? How is the element of "custody" crucial to the entrance of institutions? 4.) In terms of fund construction, liquidity is often an attractive element to crypto, why does Joel believe that a traditional venture fund structure is necessary for Placeholder? What are the benefits both to the fund and the projects it backs? How do LPs both traditional and non-traditional respond to this? 5.) Joel has said before the 2 core elements are crypto economics and governance, why does Josh believe this? Why is governance the foundational layer where value will accrue in the space? How does the lack of defensibility of crypto projects make governance ever more valuable? And that probably speaks to the type of company that you’ve built.”“Every company has a different context. You can try to copy how another company behaves, but they have different customers, different size, different origins - whatever it might be, there’s a whole bunch of constraints and reasons that impact how that company behaves.”“If I look worldwide, we get hundreds of applicants everytime we offer a job.”“Transparency and being open and honest with you clients wins everytime. Back when my podcast first launched, I interviewed entrepreneur and fellow podcaster, Joel Brown, but the sound quality was so bad that it never aired. That’s why today I’m even more excited that we were able to connect one more time to have, in my opinion, an even better conversation. From a very young age, Joel possessed an empowering mindset. Practicing his entrepreneurial skills at the young age of 7, he has long followed the principle of making money work for you – and not the other way around. Now for the last seven years, Joel has been running his motivational website, Addicted2Success (and more recently his podcast), where he encourages others to find their 10-year vision and the values that align with it. In this episode, we deep dive into what a 10-year vision entails, how to find and create one and how faith has amplified Joel’s business and life. You don’t want to miss this inspiring and insightful talk. -- Question Highlights: What’s one of your superpowers? What is one regret you have? What’s one of your favorite books? Who is someone who has changed your life? Can you tell us where you were before you became an influencer? What is the “formula” behind success? Where did your core value of contribution come from? Why is the Bible your favorite book now and what has shifted inside of you? How does this return to faith affect what you teach today in business compared to what you taught a couple years ago? What can we learn from Jesus and the way He ran his “business” that applies to how we run businesses today? Can you be spiritual and still desire wealth? How can you help others find their vision? In This Episode We Talk about: How Joel got his start as an entrepreneur Making money work for you How Joel created Addicted2Success.com Joel’s formula for success The importance of contribution The relentless pursuit of truth Why Joel stepped back into his faith The four areas to Joel’s structure to test any world view (origin, meaning, morality and destiny) Spirituality and wealth Steps to figuring out your 10-year vision and tips to check in on it Why vision and values go hand in hand And so much more… Joel’s Thoughts… “I never felt like there were ceilings, the sky was the limit.” “Inspiration is way more powerful than motivation.” “Just because it’s a personal preference doesn’t mean it’s true.” “He didn’t come to be popular, He came to speak truth.” “Your vision disciplines you. It chooses your friends for you. It teaches you what to say yes to and what to say no to. It gives you direction in your life.” “I’m not big on the law of attraction; I’m big on the law of intention.” “You have to be committed to mastery if you want to achieve a high level of success.” -- Joel Brown is the founder of the #1 motivation website, Addicted2Success.com and has achieved over 143 million views worldwide over the last 7 years. He was offered multiple million dollar offers for his website and turned them all down to continue to grow his company. Joel has a social media following of over 2.6 million across all social media channels and he travels the world teaching 1000’s of people how to stand in their vision for success so they can turn their dreams into a reality. Joel is featured in the new hit movie “Think & Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. Joel is also the host of the Addicted2Success podcast that has achieved more than 2.4 million downloads featuring thought leaders such as Tony Robbins, Deepak Chopra, Les Brown, Jack Canfield, Gabby Bernstein, Gary Vaynerchuk, Simon Sinek, Grant Cardone and many more. On today’s episode of the podcast, we’re talking copywriting -- specifically how to write better more effective conversion-focused copy on your sales and landing pages, as well as your ads. And joining me to share his expertise is conversion copywriter, Joel Klettke. Joel is the founder of Business Casual Copywriting and he’s worked with clients like HubSpot, WP Engine, Safelite and others. Joel talks a lot about how we really don’t need to overthink things when it comes to writing copy, but to instead simply let our customers talk and know how to listen to (and interpret) what they’re telling us… A big part of what he uses is something I have done in the past as well - customer interviews. Joel gives us his recommendations on what group of people we should be approaching, and how to do it the right way, as well as how we can use other tools such as chat logs to identify existing gaps in our copy. As you’ll hear, a lot of people see copy as just words, but in the bigger context, there’s a promise that you’re making and an expectation that your client has. It’s all about finding the words to turn skeptics into advocates and prospects into paying customers -- and that’s what we dive into today. On the Show Today You’ll Learn: Why Google is a fantastic aggregator of information, but a miserable interpretation of the truth (Joel gives a great example he uses with his clients that proves this) How Joel uses his “Before-During-After” process to guide his copywriting Why following your competitors’ negative reviews will allow you to proactively solve customer issues His favorite questions to ask to get the best insights from your target market What Joel uses to track the feedback he’s receiving, how he compiles it and how he makes this information useful in his copywriting The most common mistakes that he is seeing as he is auditing online ads Joel’s top resources for upping your copywriting game, and more! Coming up next week, my good friend Jasmine Star is back to share a case study, where we’ll dive into the 3 components of a Facebook Video Ad that is giving her the best results in her business.

In Today’s Podcast we cover: The Friday Roundup after the Milestones of FI episode with Joel from FI 180 We’re having a FI get together in Richmond and hope to expand beyond Richmond The gamification aspect of personal finance and the milestones When your ‘financial freedom clock’ starts and discussion of where certain types of debt plays into the calculation Financial freedom clock equals positive net worth and all junk debt is paid off Milestone two is when you have a $100,000 net worth (when Personal Capital starts calling you for a personal consultation) The next milestone is ‘FU Money’ and there is discussion on where this fits into the continuum as the concept is nebulous Should there be a milestone before $100k net worth and FU money? Adding in ‘checkpoints’ along the way on the journey to FI in addition to milestones Milestone four is ‘Half FI’ which means you have 12.5x your annual expenses saved up Milestone five is ‘Lean FI’ which means you have enough to cover all your core expenses for life (not including your discretionary expenses) The discussion surrounding the math and psychology of paying off your mortgage or not paying it off The next milestone is the “crossover point” where your investments earned more than you did from working in a given month The many catchphrases of Brad and Jonathan Milestone 7 is Flex FI, followed by Financial Independence as Milestone 8 and Milestone 9 is Fat FI The power of the concept of Flex FI and how you have an 82% chance of succeeding even at this milestone The conversation surrounding where Brad is on the path to Financial Independence and where the side hustle factors into the calculation Our ask that the community helps us refine the milestones and checkpoints How Joel’s FI journey and drawdown strategies can be a case study going forward Voicemail from Noah from Money Metagame on hacks to save on utilities Take action and make the calls to compare prices on auto insurance, utilities, etc. Frugal win of the week from Michelle about unclaimed property Frugal win of the week from Vicki about Magical Iced Coffee Input from Don and Scott about buying cards and gift giving Focus on our discussion about gift giving from a prior episode and the Five Love Languages

She also just set the record for the highest performing webinar Joel has ever launched straight to cold traffic. In this episode: Joel and Shanda discuss the process of launching a webinar to cold traffic including how long it really takes, the idea of tying a core message to your webinar, and the pressing importance of financial self-reliance. Episode Discussions: The creation and genuine mission of Heartcore Business How many hours it really does take to put together a webinar Takeaways from the Todd Brown marketing event Why the technology takeover makes financial self-reliance more important than ever Shanda’s “ah-ha!” moments and lessons had while working with Joel Evergreen and live conversion rates for Shanda’s webinar How Joel helped Shanda articulate the overall mission of her webinar Joel’s valuable advice for anyone working on their own webinars Shanda’s prediction on whether her webinar will outperform her infomercial and why [1:56] Shanda's story: Owns Heartcore Business - named after her mission to “run the company on point with audience and customers.” Helps people build audiences and create reoccurring business models. [3:41] Working with Joel: "We teach webinars inside my company but I'm not an expert. It’s just a piece that everybody needs to be doing in order sell virtually and leverage your time."-SS Contacted the Genius Network to find the best assistance with her webinar. Was referred to Joel several times. [4:45] Shanda put in over 50 hours of work on her webinar. [5:25] "It usually takes us about 40 hours when we create a webinar from scratch. People don't really understand how much work goes into it."-JE [5:45] Shanda's "ah-ha" moments and lessons working with Joel. [6:58] "I thought that I was specific because I'm so direct and to the point but I was missing a lot of steps!"-SS [9:29] What was the most important part for you in the webinar flow? "The details. Like me teaching what a generator email is or how to get influencers to promote you...It never dawned on me to explain those details."-SS [11:08] Shanda's evergreen version is converting just over 14%. Live version- 15.5% [12:01] Working with Joel helped Shanda realize her overall mission was to help people be responsible for being financially self-reliant. [12:43] “You can't blame your situation but what you can do it get something like a webinar working for you and build a great audience that you can push through that webinar."-SS [12:53] Shanda had only done webinars that converted with her email list but this webinar is converting with cold traffic. [14:06] Her offer is $997and converting at 15.5% and 14% evergreen on cold traffic. [15:39] Shanda speaks about being financially self-reliant - "Right now, they're saying (by 2020) that 5 million jobs are going to be replaced by technology. If you don't plan for it, then it will be a devastation in your life."-SS [18:06] Joel recaps the key takeaway: "The soul mission of self-reliance and being able to support a thesis that you present"-JE [18:17] Joel shares his highlights from the Todd Brown marketing event. [19:46] "It was a blessing working with you. I really appreciate and definitely will continue to refer your customers because you're fantastic at what you do."-SS [20:01] Joel’s advice for those working on their own webinars: “You have to understand this takes time. It’s not meant for beginners. This is an opportunity to add multiple subfigures per year but you have to be in it for the long haul. It takes at least 40-60 hours of in-depth work to get your message out.” [21:03] Shanda's done two infomercials. [21:12] Does (your webinar) have the potential to outperform your infomercial?" Yeah. Our infomercial is running online right now and converts better online than on TV." [22:42] "You're spending $12K to $20k a week to test and tweak (the infomercial funnel) where a webinar, you can literally run some traffic to it and go 'that's not working, let's adjust this'. It's the same process on an infomercial but you need some deep pockets." Authority is what gives you instant credibility and status in the eyes of those you want to influence. And don’t misunderstand, this is not the authority that comes with a position or a title. Joel Boggess is among those I credit for helping me to launch this podcast. He’s the guy people call when they’re feeling stuck, under-challenged or overwhelmed. Joel teaches people how to find productivity, meaning, and success. Originally from San Antonio, Texas, Joel earned his undergraduate degree at Texas Tech University, an MBA from Amberton University, and a Master’s in Counseling. His latest book, Finding your Voice, hit the #1 spot on Amazon for success, happiness, and in the self-esteem categories. His podcast, ReLaunch has passed the 1.5 million listen mark. Joel and his wife Pei live in the Dallas/Fort-Worth area, and have two dogs; a Golden Retriever retired therapy dog, Bubba, and a Golden rescue, Happy. TWEET: Joel Boggess - Doing is the New #Planning, on this episode of #ChasingDreams When you want to get started in a new endeavor, here’s what you should do. When you’re chasing your dreams you will need help. Nobody can go it alone and nobody should go it alone. Today’s guest, Joel Boggess suggests that you look around in the network of people you already know to see if there is anyone successfully doing what you want to do. If so, reach out to them and ask them if you could get some advice on how they would get started if they were in your shoes. If you DON'T see anyone in your contacts who is successfully doing what you want to do, then you need to ask those you know if THEY know anyone who is doing what you want to do. You’ll be surprised at the number of introductions you could receive and the momentum you’ll gain from this simple approach. Find out more about how to get started chasing your dreams from Joel Boggess, on this episode of Chasing Dreams. Be careful when you share your dreams with others - not everyone is trustworthy. Everybody is excited about their dreams when they first come up with them - and the temptation is to go around telling everyone about the great things you’re going to do. But Joel Boggess says that you need to be careful about sharing your dreams indiscriminately. The reason is that not everyone is going to be as optimistic or excited about your dreams as you are. In fact, you will have some people - even those close to you - who are pessimistic and discouraging about your dreams. Be cautious. Don’t share your dreams with people who are going to drag you down. On this episode, Joel shares how he makes those judgments and when he does share his dreams with others, so be sure you listen. TWEET: Be careful when you share your #dreams with others - not everyone is #trustworthy When you launch anything of value it’s going to take significant work to get going. When Joel Boggess decided to make the switch from radio to podcasting he produced 8 episodes that didn’t go anywhere. In order to make a success of the podcast, he had to change his mindset about what he was doing and take full responsibility for the success of the show. It wasn’t up to his listeners to share his episodes. It wasn’t up to his fans to help him get the show in front of others. It was HIS responsibility and nobody else’s. Once Joel made that mindset shift everything changed. What is YOUR dream that YOU have got to take responsibility for? What are the small but important changes you need to make in the way you get it moving in the right direction? Listen to this episode of Chasing Dreams. You’ll be inspired by the way Joel got his podcast going and will likely have some creative ideas of your own bubble to the surface as a result. Doing is the new planning. Once you get this concept everything changes. When Aimee asked Joel Boggess what one piece of advice he would give to people (like you) who are chasing their dreams, Joel unloaded a gold nugget. Here’s what he said: Doing is the new planning. As he went on to explain, it became clear that what he means is that with every step you take, you open the doors of opportunity that enable you to see what the NEXT step needs to be. Then you have the responsibility to move forward toward THAT new goal. But if you never take the first step, if you never DO anything with it, your options beyond that will be limited. You can find out how to apply this “doing is the new planning” concept to your dream chasing, on this episode of the podcast. TWEET: #Doing is the new #planning. Freedom doesn't always mean living out of a suitcase and jumping from country to country around the world on a whim. For the past 6 years that has definitely been how I've chosen to design my lifestyle, but over the past year, my Freedom Plan has been evolving. And, the more my Freedom Plan evolves, the more people I meet that are seeking Freedom on their own terms. And that's really it, isn't it? Freedom is whatever you want it to be. It's unique to YOU. It's whatever suits your desires, allows you to live the way you want to, and do work that lights you up that supports your lifestyle. In today's podcast episode, Joel Zaslofsky talks about the moment that led him to seek his unique Freedom Plan and his journey to achieving his goal to leave the corporate world. Joel Sharpton fell backward into the radio business and found the perfect platform for his unstoppable motor-mouth. Joel is the host of What Makes Me Weird? and Co-host of Always Listening: Podcast Reviews from Josh and Joel. A voiceover artist, audio editor, audiobook narrator, happy father of four and lucky husband to one, you can find his blog, his podcasts and more at JoelSharpton.com. TWEET: Ep. 55: Joel Sharpton - Networking Helped Open Up Doors For Me Joel Sharpton kept working at it in order to become good at it. By trying a lot of things Joel Sharpton discovered that he wasn’t necessarily good at anything in particular but that he could get better at things by trying them. When Joel first stepped into the realm of radio Joel didn’t believe he had a great voice for radio but he got better and better the more he did it. On this episode of Chasing Dreams, you’re going to hear Joel describe how that process worked in his life and how you can build your skills and find your genius as you go along. How podcasting became a thing for Joel. Joel Sharpton is one of those guys that most of us think we have to be in order to get into podcasting. He had a background in radio so it seemed like a natural fit - and it was. But Joel is the first to tell you that a love for podcasts (not audio or radio) is what got him to create his own podcast. The more he listened the more he realized that he had something to say and that podcasting was the medium he could use to do it. Joel has lots of great advice for those who are considering podcasting so be sure you listen if you’ve even been thinking about trying out podcasting. TWEET: How podcasting became a thing for Joel Sharpton, on this episode “You’re not worried about bothering him, you’re worried about bothering you.” When Joel attended Podcast Movement 2015 he saw someone he had met on social media a few times across the room. His wife encouraged him to introduce himself and say a simple, “Hello.” But Joel’s excuse for not doing it was, “I don’t want to bother him.” That’s when his wife blew up his life and perspective by saying, “You’re not worried about bothering him, you’re worried about bothering you.” It was a push toward discomfort that was really uncomfortable for Joel but opened the door to possibilities that he was keeping himself from. On this episode you’re going to hear the story and how that simple phrase, said by someone who cared about him, changed the way Joel sees networking and connections, forever. Open the doors and allow yourself to meet the opportunities. Too many times the doors of opportunity are closed to us because we don’t even try to open them. That’s what Joel Sharpton was doing to himself by not introducing himself to people he’d already connected with via social media. He learned that taking a step into the unknown (and what could seem risky) is the only way to find out if an opportunity is lurking on the other side of the door. From a few simple and temporarily scary introductions Joel has been able to build an incredible network of people in the podcasting space and many of those connections have turned into lifelong friendships to boot. You can hear how Joel made the most of his own discomfort, on this episode of Chasing Dreams. TWEET: Open the doors and allow yourself to meet the opportunities.
