Why Your Agency Needs to Add Mini Webinars Joel, the webinar guy, had a bit of a revelation after struggling with getting paid traffic to work for his business. He realized that relying solely on giving out free value to eventually turn into sales wasn't working for him. He wanted to flip that model on its head and make some changes to his process. After doing some research and attending various events, Joel finally stumbled upon a book called How to Create an Irresistible Offer. This book helped him understand what he was doing wrong and how he could fix it. He realized that his long-form webinars of one or two hours were only generating marketing-qualified leads, which weren't enough to convert into sales. He needed to focus on sales-qualified leads to see a significant impact on his business. Differentiating Marketing Qualified Leads vs Sales Qualified Leads To differentiate between marketing-qualified leads and sales-qualified leads, Joel explained this. The former is interested in the topic but not necessarily ready to buy. The latter is in the market, likes the process, and recognizes the problem they need to solve. The challenge for Joel was how to accelerate the process and move more marketing-qualified leads to sales-qualified leads. He found that publishing offer-driven content was the key to getting a lower cost per acquisition. So, he decided to expand his offers to include mini webinars instead of only doing long-form ones. This change helped him generate more sales-qualified leads and ultimately increased his conversions. It was a game-changer for his business, and he became a thought leader in the webinar space. Creating the Power Offer as a Way to Attract the Right Leads According to Joel, the key to getting more clients is by making power offers instead of constantly marketing yourself. A power offer is a short but compelling statement that offers a solution to a problem your audience is facing. It's all about getting your potential clients to think and engage with the idea you're presenting. If it's good enough, you might even get some hand raisers. Once you have your power offer, the next step is to create a three-step funnel. That will guide your leads from making a promise to closing the sale. The funnel includes a power offer ad, a landing page, and a mini webinar. Power offer ad. This is your sales-qualified offer containing the promise you make on how you can help potential clients get results while avoiding certain hurdles. Landing page. Clicking on that power offer ad will lead them to a landing page with sales-qualified lead messaging. The messaging here will be very similar to the first step, something like “We're looking for clients who need help with this. If you're interested, apply here”. Mini webinar. The mini webinar will contain more detailed information on how you're planning to fulfill the promise. Once they watch the mini webinar, they should be ready to fill out an application and book a call. Who is the Power Offer for? So who's the right candidate for a power offer? It's less about where they are in their business and more about their commitment to entrepreneurship. If they're fully committed and have a course they want to sell or an idea they want to pursue then they're the perfect fit for this offer. Now, it's important to keep in mind that not every power offer will work. Sometimes, you need to be open to pivoting your offer until you find one that resonates with your audience. And most importantly, don't give up! Even if you have to try 60 different versions of your power offer, keep at it until you find the one that works. When I say the word “Mastermind” what comes to mind? There are super high-end masterminds, masterminds that aren’t really masterminds, free masterminds, and everything in between. The Dominio Effect -> when a webinar is successful, people will research you, etc. For us, it has lead to a massive increase in podcast downloads, investment into our business and messaging, sales calls, and ultimately purchasing one or more of our products and services. As I expand my brand, the webinar is the pillar of this. How can I create something people will talk about? I've got certain campaigns that have worked really well. I can take them to a totally different industry and customize it for a new client; I would license it to them rather than sell it. “The magic of telling your story the right way really magnetizes your ideal client to want to work with you, instead of you having to pitch them or sell them anything.” This week on Experts Unleashed, Joel brings on Majeed Mogharreban to shed light on the path to a successful speaking career through great storytelling. Majeed founded the Expert Speaker Institute on the belief that stories can change the world. Majeed shares how he helps his clients reach their audience without using an aggressive sales pitch. Many of Majeed’s clients find themselves dazzled by the idea of being the speaker who leaves the stage to find a crowd of eager, adoring people ready to engage and (in most cases) buy what they’re selling. He teaches people how to inspire this kind of efficient magnetism with compelling stories. Specifically, three stories should be told: Your story - How you went from struggle to success Client success story - A life transformation that your skills helped bring about Cautionary tale - The story of someone who has the problem that you solve and who wasn’t able to solve it without you, and thus experienced failure, consequences, and a serious downfall. These stories help clients see the value of working with you. People who attend presentations are going to make one of four choices, and you structure your stories based on these choices: Do nothing (Cautionary tale - these people can leave because your story is not for them) DIY (Cautionary tale) Pay someone to solve the problem (Cautionary tale) Solve the problem with you (Your success story) By the end of the speech number four the obvious option, but whether or not people buy from you, they still receive tremendous value just by listening and the event organizer is pleased. Everyone wins! “Then you write that speech like it’s a love letter to that person, they feel like ‘Hang on a second, do you have a recording going on in my brain? Because this is literally what’s going on in my brain...I think we should talk.’” Majeed emphasizes that your focus as a speaker should not be on the speaking fee, but on giving value to the audience. In fact, the sale starts before the presentation, when the people coming to hear you read your bio, see your website, and begin to understand what you’re all about. “Our minds are designed to pay attention to stories. Our brains actually synchronize their brain waves to the storyteller and the listener. It’s a very, very powerful way to connect emotionally, connect visually” Finally, Majeed goes into his background as a speech-team champ and an improv actor, and the irreplaceable part that those skills have played in his career as a speaker. He talks about his journey from young serial entrepreneur to corporate event speaker, all the way to his current business as a speaking coach. He also outlines how he gets his people started on their own journey and how to structure talks like a personal love letter to your ideal client (and why it’s important and profitable to have an ideal client rather than a broad, scattered profile). “The very best way to grow your business is for the customers of that business to do the growing for you.” On this week’s episode of Experts Unleashed, Joel Erway sits down with the world-renowned Jay Baer - bestselling author, speaker, and the driving force behind 5 multi-million dollar companies to figure out what makes people talk about you and your business. Jay begins with the marketing adage “Advertising is a tax paid by the unremarkable”, and dives directly into how vitally important word-of-mouth is for the growth of your business, and the fact that many experts take word-of-mouth for granted instead of cultivating a strategy for it as they would with PR or advertising. In his new book Talk Triggers, Jay posits that every entrepreneur develops a word-of-mouth strategy on accident - and lays out actionable advice for doing it on purpose. Being “good” isn’t enough to make people talk you up. Your customers expect good, and they can find good somewhere else. You need to go further and conceptualize an individual talk trigger that catches your customer’s attention and keeps hold. “The talk trigger does not replace your expertise, the talk trigger supports your expertise.” What exactly is a talk trigger? Jay defines the term as “a strategic operational choice you make that compels conversation”, and insists that every expert ought to have a talk trigger. It should be intentional and carefully thought out. He specifically cites DoubleTree’s warm cookie ritual and Jessica Pettitt’s fitted sheet-folding responder video as golden (and highly effective) examples. “The most overrated thing in business is praise. Highly overrated. It feels great, but it doesn’t teach you anything. What makes you a better expert is negative feedback and criticism. But we’re so quick to run from that, and we should be running toward that.” Talk triggers, however, aren’t quite as simple as they sound. Jay outlines his process for coming up with a talk trigger in a few steps: Map out your customer journey - You need a good handle on your customers’ perspective. Jay recommends conducting 18 interviews: 6 with new customers, 6 with longtime customers, and 6 lost (or former) customers. Find out what they expected at the outset of your work together and what they didn’t. Talk trigger ideas - Come up with 3-5 good ideas and pick one, then test it for “talkability” (find a way to expose the idea to a control group and monitor your feedback). 3 Question survey - This is your perfect feedback tool. Ask customers if they talked about what you’ve done together, how they talked about it, and if they mentioned any of a specific list of attributes (including the talk trigger). Jay then goes into the origin story for Talk Triggers and how important it is to solve the problem of how to get people to tell a consistent story. He reflects on switching from digital media to written media - and then lets listeners in on his own personal talk triggers, including: His crazy suit game2. His unique business card bottle openers3. “Sales is an authentic conversation. You’re learning exactly where a person is, where they want to go, and identifying the gap between the two. If you can fill that gap, it’s a simple, easy conversation.” This week on Experts Unleashed, we are talking with Peter Frumenti, the expert when it comes to authentic marketing. Peter is a sales mentor who has mastered an authentic enrollment process and helps transformational experts develop their own sales system. However, when you give someone the space to vocalize and get clarity on their pain, you are serving them at the highest level.” - Peter For many entrepreneurs, sales can be the most daunting part of their business. However, increasing your conversion rate is dependent on your ability to shift your mindset around sales. Effective sales calls are simply authentic conversations with a potential client. When you lean in to find more about where they want to go and learn where they are currently, you will be able to listen more clearly for their pain, which is the gap between the two. Many times ego can get in the way of communicating need. However, most people want a chance to talk about their pain. It is your job to create the space needed for a moment of vulnerability. They have a pain, and you may hold the solution. “The number one component of building a successful sales team is cultivating an authentic belief in the offer that they are selling.” When we give into to our natural desire to take someone out of their pain, we become inhibited in our ability to fully understand their need. A quick solution, a promise of help, or telling the individual their issue is a quick or easy fix can momentarily alleviate the pain, and thus remove the urgency. A client may be quick to settle for a small “fix” or feel encouraged to figure things out themselves. Furthermore, until we fully investigate the pain, it is impossible to truly know if the services we offer will actually be an effective solution. When you remain in the position of the expert, diagnosing a problem, and strategizing a solution, you will build rapport and trust. Enter Jake Ulkus. Jake uses Forensic Marketing Analysis to dig deep into your business in order to identify and correctly optimize your unique strengths and assets. This week on Experts Unleashed, Jake is giving us a peek into the work that he does with clients, helping them recognize and utilize the “Hidden Equity” in their businesses. “To find hidden equity, the first place I look is existing clients as an asset. So I look at Return on Assets (ROA) - net income divided by number of assets. What are you netting per client? Then it’s almost as simple and abstract as saying, am I happy with that number?” The concept of finding “Hidden Equity” focuses on extracting components outside of your prime focus that add value to your business. In order for you to find this equity, you have to recognize that the level of their expertise is not equal to the current level of impact. This takes some self-analyzation of your Return on Assets and Return on Energy. Even when we identify that some changes are in order, we can tend to fall back into old, comfortable patterns. So, for long-lasting results, it can be crucial to have someone coaching us along the way. “Every single business has the ability to expand their ROA, has the ability to create completely new revenue streams, to double their business, without having to worry about how to net ‘new’… it’s how you grow those roots. You’ve got to be able to grow the roots deep. But those who are successful in selling their $997 course, are over delivering. What I mean by that is, some of my clients have been providing over the top support, access, coaching for minimal profits a month minus all that fulfillment overhead. Make the shift: understand your true value and what people really want to pay for. Stop the cycle, stop the burn-out. Rule #1 - do not offer lifetime access as a bonus. The real money is made on the back-end. People don't want to buy courses, they want to pay for access. Think about it, a book only costs $5-$10. Why? Because it comes with no access. Once you build your webinar as a business model, leverage your webinar, you can 10X your value. How? It's by adding support and implementation help... but for an extra cost. In the world of marketing, there are two angles that most people believe in, "you can lead with pain or you can lead with pleasure." So, which one do you think would perform better? Prior to about 5 weeks ago, I would have said that leading with a pain would produce a higher response. Not so with this client of mine! We were building a mini-webinar and although there is always a little bit of uncertainty when you launch, we lead with pleasure with this campaign. When speaking with clients, I am always looking for the answer to this question: "Where is this webinar going within your product or suite of offers?" Number 1: DIAL IN YOUR OFFER Number 2: Quickest way to monetize the offer So where will the webinar be the most effective? When is broad too broad? How large is your mass market really? Dominate one market first... then expand. Example: Dominate the webinar market, then move into our new business, Experts Unleashed. Become an EXPERT, take the time to really research and practice your expertise. And continue to learn. So where does a webinar fit in your marketing scheme... If you are doing a direct selling webinar then you want to make sure that you can get people on your webinar affordably. Update on the stats of our free funnel... Lots of lessons learned and content to absorb... This will literally transform your business... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fulfilling on my promise, I will update you on our free funnel. The way I think about business and selling is not to necessarily lead with free. "Free campaign" info and results: Top of mind vs free content Approach: LEAD with an OFFER But I tested leading with free..so how did it work? Facebook Group, five day challenge I assumed -> high engagement but ultimately enabling people to follow me for free content Results -> Day 1: Massive spike in engagement -> Day 5: Engagement was zero Offers were made and content dripped out throughout the week Not one single person applied Maybe 1 or 2 people converted to the free trial with only 1 actually paying for the subscription Total profit: $97 My typical campaign would consist of promoting to a small hot list, lead with stories of inspirational and testimonials; converted $60k in revenue plus back end sales. Earnings per lead - $75. ((Listen in for more examples)) So essentially I made more off the leads who were interested in my offer as opposed to those who I gave content away for free too. "When you lead with free, you attract people who are naturally not going to buy. When you lead with an offer, you are hyper-qualifying people and getting them interested in what you can offer. Everyone is looking for a solution!" "When you lead with an offer you get people to know you can solve a problem...You give them permission to market." Content is still king, but you need to do it in the proper order. I recently went out to LA to consult with a client. He has an unbelievable offer! My client was talking about this idea of how people are afraid to make offers. You have people who are great at direct response and others who are brand awareness/audience builders. We chatted about some big name influencers who are terrified to make offers! Revenue is what keeps your business pumping. The Perfect Expert is being able to leverage your ability to make offers to your audience and then build your audience. Your audience will then become so much more valuable. [7:21] For a year, she worked full time at a gym, building relationships and making connections. [11:19] First client: Karen was working at an outpatient clinic when someone from the gym sent her a referral who became her first concierge client. [13:47] "It was the sheer exhaustion of working too many hours a week that prompted me to say, 'you know, I think I've had enough." [15:05] As she worked part time at a friend's clinic, she started seeing more side clients. [15:46] "I had a full-on panic attack when I decided to let go of those 8 hours and do this whole thing on my own." [16:50] Continuing education: Karen read business books, took Marie Forleo's B-School, and asked her CEO clients for business advice. [17:57] One piece of advertising advice from a client that produced over 20 new clients. [20:32] Accepting help: "Your current clients are your biggest advocates and if you're not leveraging them, there's definitely lost opportunity there." [21:12] If you try to do it all, it'll keep you small. [22:39] Pivoting into program creation: The same questions kept cycling in her social media groups and emails so Karen put herself out there and started helping. [26:43] Seeing opportunity: 65% of physical therapists are women but there are very few women teaching them how to be successful entrepreneurs. [29:52] Business idea validation: An online program Karen launched 3 years ago successfully helped people grow their businesses. [17:05] Hail Mary’s: He invested in real estate with no experience and made millions in 18 months. [17:49] Health scare: Dropped his business after developing an autoimmune disease. “I was so unhappy and depressed. They actually gave me a year to live.” [18:35] Massive sacrifice: Lost $3M out of $5M to UK tax during his move to the US in 2015. [22:52] Key takeaway: "Sometimes it's about stepping outside the comfort zone and taking that one risk because that one risk can change your entire life." I ended up with the West Nile Virus after 5 months of being in the United States." [39:00] "I had nothing to help me, unlike in the UK where I at least had connections. I had relationships I could rely on. I think that's one of the biggest advantages in life…Without any relationships, your backs against the wall."
