A Case for Working with Friends w/ Don Finley

Don Finley makes a compelling case for working with friends. Don is the transformative force behind FINdustries, a leading product development agency that's made a monumental impact on the tech and financial sectors, shaping the product development landscape with unparalleled innovation. With a remarkable career spanning two decades, Don's expertise in fusing science, art, and technology has propelled his agency to the forefront of the industry. However, Don's journey extends beyond the conventional realms of a CEO. He embraces a visionary perspective, firmly believing that the foundation of business success lies in genuine friendship and shared values. Rooted in transformative experiences like conquering Kilimanjaro and immersing himself in Peru's vibrant culture, Don's personal growth has redefined his approach to work and life. The seeds sown during these adventures gave rise to FINdustries ten years ago, a company with a mission that transcends mere profits. Bolstered by a global network of 60+ partners and 16,000 developers, FINdustries has left an indelible mark on the industry, enabling clients to generate over $1 billion in annual revenue. The company's focus on strategic product development addresses the common challenges businesses face, culminating in a harmonious blend of technology, camaraderie, and meaningful relationships. Episode in a Tweet: Working with friends creates new opportunities, creativity and creation flow through our relationships. It enables us to experience the totality of life and build from a foundation of togetherness. Background: Ten years ago, Don Finley founded FINdustries, a business dedicated to solution building, serving customized solutions to clients ranging from startups to Fortune 10 companies. He worked to develop business with clients and referrals that swiftly brought success. Putting in the necessary grind, he found the reward of material success—which helped his clients generate more than $1B in annual revenue--but realized something key was missing. In growing FINdustries, Don was shrinking himself, burning out, and missing out on the meaning of it all. When he joined a climb up Kilimanjaro in 2018 and a subsequent trip to Peru, he began to see that he had become numb to the highs and lows of life. He began to understand I could no longer separate work from his life. As he puts it, "It was a mutiny of the soul." He realized that he only wanted to work with friends and people he loved, with shared values and fulfilling relationships at the center. This was crucial to shifting how he treated himself in business and life. And this is what we talk about in this week's episode of Reflect Forward as Don makes a case for working with friends. It's an inspiring story and mighty philosophy. Have a listen and let me know what you think! Welcome to this version of the Just Start Real Estate Podcast! I am excited to bring you another replay of my Facebook Live Question and Answer sessions. I just started doing these live forums in April and they are going so well and I am getting such great feedback and questions, I thought I would share them here on the podcast. Especially for those people that are unable to join us live, this will provide an opportunity to hear the awesome questions I am fielding about business, taking risks, real estate, and so much more! Some of the questions have been very real estate specific, but others have been general business questions, like asking about overcoming fear in order to get started and how to successfully scale. I have also received more personal questions like how I decided real estate investing was right for me and the steps I took to get my business off the ground. This presentation is the live Q&A that I did on August 18th and each week on Thursday we will offer you another chance to take advantage of listening to the answers to our guests' fabulous and compelling questions! Don't miss this new episode of the Just Start Real Estate Podcast! Notable Quotes: “Go get a deal. Just go get a deal.” “That step of getting an LLC formed keeps people from going out and getting deals and making money.” “Going into business with a loved one can damage a very important relationship permanently.” “Partnerships are like marriages - a lot of them fail.” “Partnerships with family members or friends often fail because people don't evaluate the partnership the way they would have if it wasn't with someone they knew.” “I guess if I keep predicting that the market is going to slow down I will eventually be right.” “If I could turn back the clock and I was 19 years old and living with my parents, I would turn real estate investing into a full-time gig today.” “There are deals out there. In the world of high-end independent watchmaking, Max Büsser is a king. Well, maybe not a king; he's more of an alchemist, somehow turning his dreams into incredible creations of steel, gold and sapphire. While this romantic vision is pretty accurate, it's only part of the picture. Max tells us about the anger and frustration that caused MB&F to be born, the importance of friends, the madness of developing 22 calibres in 20 years and why Max is determined to run his business differently. We also talk about the entirely selfish way Max designs watches and how that's reflected in the evolving style of the brand, which has shifted from blocky to biomorphic. On this episode of the Park Leaders Show, Phil Francis joins Jody and Phil Gaines to discuss working with support groups. A retired superintendent of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Francis explains how friends groups can help maintain accountability among park rangers and leaders. For instance, through networking, advocacy, and project development, friends groups can call on experienced members to speak for resources and park mission whether it involves testifying before Congress or writing letters to editors. As Francis elaborates, the goal of friends groups is to resolve local and political issues, manage state and federal projects, and cultivate relationships. If a national park wants to prioritize this endeavor, park managers must not only understand nonprofit requirements but understand the budgets and social value behind their projects. Taking on board the feedback, Jide and his co-founders decided to create a brand. Jide opens up about the obstacles he's encountered and the reality of building a fashion brand with no fashion experience whatsoever. After working in investment banking for 10 years, Jide took the plunge and became self-employed to focus on Velviere full time. However, this did come with it's challenges, especially with an unplanned pandemic which we dive into later on in the podcast. I hope you enjoy this raw and candid conversation, it sure did inspire me to keep pushing no matter what. On the show today , I have Matthew Geppert Matt is an old school friend who I still keep in contact with If you didn't know, I bring people onto my show that I can interview and learn from because they are making a difference in their industries and if you listen to closely you will pick up so great tips that will help you on your journey to success Matt like myself was a school leaver but didn't stop him, he got his teeth stuck into recruitment and learnt very early on that he could be a success at this. At the age of 17 he was going into conference rooms and sitting down with CEO's of huge companies but that didn't faze him because he knew his worth and knew he should be there. A lot of people struggle with this, they belittle themselves because they put the job titles on such a peddle stool that you are either fighting an up hill battle or you never begin because you are role on a few years and Matt started his own Recruitment company, that's the beauty of recruitment, you can start solo and still have quick wins straight away. The momentum built and before he knew it he has a number of people working for him and a new partner for the nordic recruitment they went into Matt had a problem though, some might not see this as problem but by the age of the 30 he had reach the levels most people don't reach when they come to retirement age, At the age of 30, Matt exited from the Nordic side of the business, he could've rested and had a few more Pina coladas but he wanted to push on continuing in recruitment, even though the company might be smaller, he as a structure in place where he doesn't need to be so hands on and that's what a lot of business owners struggle with, they cant let go of their baby and no one else can do the job they do because they've not let any attempt the job, Luckily Matt has the structure in place and that let him focus of something else What started out as a conversation with one of his best friends (Daniel Shafron) turned out to be the start of a new business venture Dan has been involved in property 10+ years, he felt that the auction side of it hadn't progressed since the dawn of time, it needed a tech injection and a way to make the research or the property (legal Pack) cheaper and easier to understand After Matt spoke with a person he built a relationship with in recruitment, they realized this had legs With 3 of them + Adam Russell who has been the man who builds the relationships with the auction houses with his expert industry knowledge and experience for 15+ years, they are on a journey to bring the auction houses into the 21st century with Legal packs that can be downloaded online with a fee that is a 5th of the price but doesn't lose any of its quality Matt will speak about the journey, the opportunity during COVID, working with friends and 3 tips to getting started Appreciate you listening / watching the show, thank you On a daily basis I put out content across many social media platforms, Connect with me: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/marksclairetraining/ LinkedIn: MarkSclaire https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-sclaire-97202045/ Website: www.marksclaire.com Email: mark@marksclaire.com Phone: +971566556093 ======================= Please support this channel by giving me a like, subscribing or leaving a comment.

You will probably also share similar values, aspirations and interests. It can also be tricky. How do you manage disagreements? What if business stresses spill over into life outside the business.  Who is in charge and who gets to make the final decision?
