In Acts 21:1-36, we encounter a chapter filled with a man earnestly pursuing the will of the Lord. As the Apostle Paul journeys to Jerusalem, he gains deeper insight into God's purposes for his life: some expected others surprising. Yet through it all, one truth remains clear: Paul understood that God's will for him was to walk in the footsteps of his Savior. What we learn in these three scenes are qualities each of us might pray for as we seek to have “The Will of the Lord Be Done” in our lives: 1. A Submissive Heart to God's Leading, 2. A Sacrificial Love for the Church, and 3. A Steadfast Faith in All Circumstances.

It is no different for Christians. Yet, as we go through these things and deal with them, we are called to rejoice; that's different. But we're not just called to rejoice we're commanded to rejoice always, not some of the times. This exhortation, along with the exhortations to pray without ceasing and give thanks in all circumstances in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 applies to all Christians everywhere in every situation. But how can Christians rejoice always? How can we have joy amid our heartache, pain, sicknesses, sufferings, and death? Even as we know the Bible teaches us that we will go through tribulations and suffering and that God Himself has ordained this for us, how do we do that with joy? Join us on the Straight Truth Podcast this week as Dr. Josh Philpot presents Dr. Richard Caldwell with these questions, seeking biblical answers to help us understand what it means to be joyful and rejoice even though our emotions seem to be saying something different. Dr. Caldwell explains that believers can have more than one emotion operating in their hearts concurrently. The Word of God acknowledges this. In this same letter to the Thessalonians, where the Apostle Paul exhorts believers to rejoice always, he speaks of believers grieving over the loss of believers who have passed away. They grieved, and we grieve also. But as believers, we grieve differently than those who are lost because of the hope we have in Christ, the hope in a future resurrection. Just because a believer is sad, discouraged, or disheartened doesn't mean they are sinning.

In this insightful sermon, Pastor Michael Olivier explores the theme "Growing in All Circumstances," encouraging listeners not to let life's difficulties derail their faith but to grow through them by seeking God and His purpose in every situation. The Giant of Circumstances: Pastor Michael discusses how daily circumstances, whether big or small, can stir emotions like frustration, anger, and fear. Drawing from James 1:2-4, he challenges us to decide whether these challenges will dictate our faith or help us grow through them. Remind Yourself That God is With You: Referencing Hebrews 13:5 and Romans 8:31-32, Pastor Michael emphasises that no matter the situation, God is always by our side, guiding and strengthening us. Keep Your Eyes on God as Your Source: He encourages us to look to God as our provider, citing Deuteronomy 2:7 and Philippians 4:19, reminding us that God will supply all our needs in any circumstance. Submit Yourself to God's Ways: Drawing from Romans 8:28-29 and Psalm 19:14, Pastor Michael calls for trust in God's higher plan, urging us to submit to His will and grow in character through life's trials. Join Pastor Michael Olivier as he teaches how to remain steadfast in faith and grow through all circumstances by leaning on God's presence, provision, and purpose.

Giving Thanks in All Circumstances by Teresa Igono.  Big Idea: It is easy to give thanks during the good times, but God has commanded us to give thanks in all circumstances, including the bad times. The Samaritan leper gave thanks to Jesus when he was healed, and the Apostle Paul rejoiced in his hardships because he knew God was glorified in his weakness. Knowing and trusting in God and his promises can help us be grateful at all times.  EDGE Student Ministries

Normally we give thanks, to God and to others, only when good things come our way. Someone gives us a gift…we say “Thank you!” The Lord answers our prayers in the way we want Him to…we say “Thank you!” But giving thanks in ALL circumstances? That would be seriously hard to do! How can we give thanks when something goes awry? How can we give thanks when we just don't want to or feel like it? Really the question is this: When we consider our intimate relationship with our loving Lord and His intense passion for loving us and meeting our needs, how can we not give thanks in all circumstances? Yes? No matter what comes our way, God is good all the time…all the time, God is good! We therefore “Give Thanks in All Circumstances”!

We have a house! That's the great news. The journey has been... a challenging journey!!! I'm six weeks behind my schedule and what I thought was a simple loan application got intricately complicated. It was delayed by the underwriters continued questions to such an extent that we weren't sure we would close on time. In fact, the final approval happened at 6:30pm the night before closing! Then we discovered the moving company was.... (hmmmm, how do I say this nicely?)... uncommunicative. In spite of giving almost a months notice of the date we move in, they wouldn't answer my call, didn't follow through on what they said and blanketed it by saying "the contract gives us 30 days after the first available move in date." So what does faith look like in this situation? Do I bang down doors or pray and wait for God to move and my phone to ring? Do I call a lawyer regarding the moving company to add some heat?  Here's what I did and what I'm learning. First, the perplexing lesson is that God is delighted in the process. When I pause and ponder Him or simply ask, "Are we doing ok?", all I see/hear is Him smiling at me and my family. That either means He is sadistically loving watching us walk through emotional, physical and financial challenge... OR He knows this is working for good and loves how we are responding to Him and one another in the process. I am convinced of the latter. He is only good, His face and favor are toward me, not against me. He is with me. He is working, and has worked, this all for my good because I am walking in His ways, leaning in for His voice and adjusting along the way to represent Him the best I know how. So if He is with me, leading and guiding, why is this so challenging? Why am I having to seemingly fight for every step when He already paid the price? Here's a couple scriptures that give light 1. God is not afraid of your humanity. He joined you IN it Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.”  Exodus 3:6 By faith Jacob, when dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, bowing in worship over the head of his staff. Hebrews 11:21 ACTION - celebrate, be grateful, be thankful, worship in ALL CIRCUMSTANCES and IMPERFECTIONS (yes, yours!) 2. EVERY word from God will face challenge to PROVE it true and genuine Every word of God is tried and purified; He is a shield to those who trust and take refuge in Him. Proverbs 30:5 (AMPC) ...that the genuineness of your faith, [being] much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love.  1 Peter 1:7 ACTION - Be encouraged in midst of challenge, persevere, you will get through this and come out the other end stronger, more confident and more pleasing to God 3. Learn when to wait and when to act Since you have never traveled this way before, they will guide you. Stay about a half mile behind them, keeping a clear distance between you and the Ark. Make sure you don't come any closer. Joshua 3:4 (NLT) The priests will carry the Ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth. As soon as their feet touch the water, the flow of water will be cut off upstream, and the river will stand up like a wall. Joshua 3:13 (NLT) and 4:18  Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts. Isaiah 26:8 (NIV) ACTION - keep your heart tender toward the Lord, trust His guidance, keep walking and let your action be done from and in a way that would still represent Him. eg. There is no future for a people who deny their past. My Fore-parents, My Grandparents, My Mother, My Father did not suffer and die to give me an education to slight, oppress or discourage my people. Whatsoever education I acquired out of their sacrifice of over 300 years, I shall use for the salvation of the 400 million Black people of the world. And the DAY when I forsake my people; may GOD Almighty say, “there shall be no more life for you”. I unequivocally rejected the racist assumption of much white American Christianity. Namely that God had created the black man inferior. And that he intended Negroes to be a Servant class, heavers of wood and drawers of water. Well I predicated my view of man on the doctrine of E Margo De E “all men regardless of color are created in the image of GOD”. From this premise come the equality of all men and brotherhood of all men. The Biblical injunction of Acts 17:26 reminds us that He created of one blood all nations of men to dwell on the face of the earth and is most interested in brotherhood than with ones own race. Because if Negroes are created in God’s image, and Negroes are Black then God must IN SOME SENSE be Black. If the White man has the Idea of a white God let him worship his God as he desires. We have found a new ideal. Because God has No color, and yet it is HUMAN to see everything through ones own spectacles, and since the white people have seen their god thru their white spectacles, we have only now started to see our God thru our own Spectacles. But we believe in the God of Ethiopia, the everlasting God; God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy One, the one God of all the Ages; that is the God of whom we believe but we shall worship HIM thru the spectacles of Ethiopia. For two hundred and fifty years we have struggled under the burden and rigors of slavery. We were maimed, we were brutalized, we were ravaged in every way. We are men, we have hopes, we have passions, we have feelings, we have desires just like any other race. The cry of race all over the world, of Canada for the Canadians, of America for the Americans, Of England for the English, of France for the French or Germany for the Germans; do they think it unreasonable that we the Blacks of the world should raise our cry Africa for the Africans? The Negro is a MAN; we represent the New Negro. His back is not yet against the wall, we do not want his back against the wall because that would be a peculiar and desperate position. We do not want him there. It is because of this we are asking for a fair compromise. Well the Belgians have control over the Belgian Congo, which they cannot use. They have not the resources to develop, nor the intelligence. The French have more territory than they can develop, there’s certain parts of Africa in which they cannot live at all. So it is for YOU to come together and give us a United States of Africa. We are not going to be a race without a country. God never intended it and we are not going to disappoint God’s confidence in us as Men. We are Men, human beings, capable of the same acts as any other race. Possessing under fair circumstances the same INTELLIGENCE as any other race. Now Africa’s been sleeping. Not dead, only sleeping. Today Africa is walking around not only on our feet but on our brains. You can enslave us for some 300 years, the bodies of men, you can shackle the hands of men, you can shackle the feet of men, you can imprison the bodies of men, BUT YOU CANNOT SHACKLE OR IMPRISON THE MINDS OF MEN. Rise up Black Men, and take your stand. Reach up black men and women and pull all nature’s knowledge to you. Turn ye around and make a conquest of everything North and South, East and West. And then we you have wrought well, you will have merited God’s blessing, you will become God’s chosen people and naturally you’ll become leaders of the world. And as you bow down to the white man today, so will others bow down to you and call you a race of masters because of the intelligence of your mind and your achievements. No race has the last word on culture and civilization. They do not know what we’re capable of; they do not know what we’re thinking. They’re thinking in terms of dreadnaughts, battleships, airplanes and submarines. You know what we’re thinking about? That is our own private business. So give us credit for being able to use our minds. And once people are in concept of themselves; determined to use their minds you do not know to what extent they can go. Liberate the minds of men and ultimately you will liberate the bodies of men. Let up the white race, not for social fellowship but for the common good of God and tell him he should live. What satisfaction can anyone get in being happy and see his brother wallowing in filth, death and disease? How can you be happy living in luxury and your brother is living in disease? Then when you try to help the one out of the disease, there are talks of a disloyalty. Black men of Carthage, Black men of Ethiopia, of Timbuktu to Alexandria gave the likes of civilization to this world. Ethiopia shall stretch forth her hands unto God and princes shall come out of Egypt. Those classes, nations, races have been quite quiet for over four centuries. Who have merely bore the view in self humiliation, whose forbearance can only be compared to the prophet Job as likewise lifted his bowed head and raised it up at God’s cries, and cried out “I am a man and demand a man’s chance and a man’s treatment in this world.” As I shall teach the black man, I shall teach the black man to see beauty in his own kind and stop bleaching his skin and otherwise looking like what he’s not. Back in the days of slavery, Race mixture, Race miscegenation all occurred BECAUSE THE AFRICAN WOMAN HAD NO PROTECTION FROM THE SLAVEMASTER. Therefore there is no need today for black people themselves to freely continue a PRACTICE that SMACKS so much of slavery. Our leaders say the race problem will be solved thru higher education. Thru better education, black and white will come together, that day will never happen until Africa is redeemed. Cause if those who like W.E.B Dubois believe that the race problem will be solved in America thru higher education, they will work between now and eternity and never see the problem solved. God made man lord of his creation; gave him possession and ownership of the world. And you have been so darned lazy that you’ve allowed the other brother to run away with the whole world. Now he’s bluffing you and telling you that the world belongs to him and that you have no part in it. I don’t have to apologize to anybody for being Black, because God Almighty knew exactly what he was doing when he made me Black. If black people knew their glorious past then they would be MORE inclined to respect themselves. Yes, you’ve heard of Johnny walker red, and black, well he had his adversities but he’s still going strong. Well I intend with your help and God’s grace to continue, cause my work has only just begun. Future generations shall have in their hands the guide by which they shall know the sins of the 20th century. I know, and I know you to believe in time, but we shall wait patiently for 200 years if need be, to face our enemies for our prosperity. When mine enemies are satisfied, in life I shall come back or in death even to serve you as I served before. In life I shall be the same, in death I SHALL BE A TERROR to foes of African liberty. If death hath power then conquer me to be the real Marcus Garvey I would like to be. If I may come in an earthquake, or a plague, or a pestilence, or if God would have me, then be assured that I shall never desert you and make your enemies triumph over you. Will I not go to hell a million times for you? If I die, my work will only just then begin. For I shall live in a physical or spiritual to see the day of Africa’s Glory. When I am dead, wrap the mantle of the Red, the Black and the Green around me for in a New Life I shall RISE UP with God’s grace and blessings to lead the millions to the heights of triumph, that you well know. Look for me in the whirlwind or a storm, look for me all around you, for with God’s grace I shall come back with countless millions of Black men and women who have died in America, those who have died in the West Indies and those who have died in Africa to aid You in fight for liberty, freedom and life. Any leadership that teaches you to depend upon another race is a leadership that will enslave you. Any leadership that teaches you to depend upon another race is a leadership that will enslave you! They gave leadership to our Foreparents and that leadership made them slaves. But we have decided to find a leadership of our own, to make ourselves free men. Our great scholars have advanced thru the colleges, and universities have thrown away the blacken record. Babylon did it. Assyria did it. France under Napoleon did it. Germany under Prince Jon Bismarck did it. England did it. America under George Washington did it. Africa with 400 million Black People can do it. If you cannot do it, if you are not prepared to do it then you will DIE. You race of cowards, you race of imbeciles, you race of good for-nothings, if you cannot do what other men have done, what other nations have done, what other races have done, THEN YOU HAD BETTER DIE. Can we do it? We can do it? We shall do it. We’ve prayed to God for vision and for leadership and he has given us a Universal vision. A vision that will not limit our possibilities to America, a vision that will not limit our possibilities to the West Indies but a vision that says that there must be a free and redeemed Africa. Christ the crucified, Christ the despised, we appeal to you to help, for leadership. When you endeavored to carry your burden up the heights of Calvary, when white men spurned you, when white men scorned you, when white men spat upon you, when white men pierced your side and blood and water gushed forth, it was BLACK MAN in the name of Simon the Syrian who took your cross and bore it up the heights of Calvary. Now we are bearing our cross and the burden has been so heavy. Oh yes, the Cause is Grand, the Cause is Glory, surely we shall not turn back. Oh, Sail on! Sail on! Sail on! Oh Mighty Shepherd says Sail on! Sail on, until the Flag of the Red, the Black and the Green is perched upon the hilltops of Africa. Because the time has come for the Black man to forget his hero worship of other races, and to create and emulate Heroes of his own. We must canonize our own Saints, create our own Martyrs, and elevate to positions of fame and honor black men and women who have made their distinct contributions to our racial history. Sojourner Truth is worthy of the place of Sainthood alongside Joan of Arc; Crispus Attucks and George William Gordon are entitled to the Halo of martyrdom with no less glory than that of the Martyrs of any other race. Toussaint L’Ouverture’s brilliancy as a soldier or a statesman outshine that of any other people: hence, He is entitled to the Highest place as a hero among men. Africa has created millions, countless millions of black men and women in war and in peace, whose luster and bravery outshine that of any other people. Then why not see good and perfection in ourselves? We must inspire a literature and promulgate a doctrine of our own without any apologies to the powers that be. That right is Ours and God’s. Let sentiments and cross opinions go to the winds. We are entitled to our own opinion and are not obligated to or bound by the opinions of others. If others laugh at you, return the laughter to them; if they mimic you, return the compliment with equal force. They have no more right to dishonor, discredit you in Manhood than you have in dealing with them. Honor them when they honor you; disrespect and disregard them when they vilely treat you. Their arrogance is but skin deep, an assumption that has no foundation in morals or in law. They have sprung from the same family tree of obscurity as we have. Their history is as rude in its primitiveness as ours; their ancestors were running wild and living in trees of branches like monkeys as ours; they made human sacrifices, ate the flesh of their own dead and wild meat from beasts for centuries even as they have accused us of doing; their cannibalism is more prolonged than ours. When we were embracing the banks of the Nile, they were still drinking blood out of the skulls of their conquered dead. After our civilization had reached the noonday of progress they were still living in holes with bats, rats and other insects and animals. After we had already unfathomed the mystery of the stars and reduced the heavenly constellations to minute and regular calculus they were still backwoodsmen, living in ignorance and in blatant darkness. The world is indebted to us for the benefits of civilization. They stole our arts and sciences from Africa. Then why should we be ashamed of ourselves? Their modern improvements are but duplicates of a grander civilization that we reflected thousands of years ago, without the advantage of what is buried and still hidden, to be reflected and resurrected by our generation and our posterity. Why should we be discouraged if somebody laughs at us today? Who is to tell what tomorrow will bring forth? Did they not laugh at Christ, Moses, Muhammad? Was there not a Carthage, Greece and Rome? So we see and have changes every day. So pray, work, be steadfast and be not dismayed. As the Jew is held together by his religion, the white racist by the assumption and the unwritten law of superiority, the Mongolian by the precious tie of blood, likewise the Black Man must unite in one grand racial hierarchy. Our union must know no clime, no nationality. But let us all hold together in every country and every clime, making a Racial Empire upon which “the sun shall never set.” Let no voice but your own speak to you from the depths. Let no influence but your own rouse you in time of peace and time of war. Hear all, but attend only to that which concerns you. Your allegiance shall be to your God, your race, your country. Remember that the Jew in his political and economic urges is always first a Jew; the white man is first a white man under ALL CIRCUMSTANCES. So you can do no less, BE BLACK; BUY BLACK; THINK BLACK AND ALL ELSE WILL TAKE CARE OF ITSELF. Let NO ONE inoculate you with evil doctrines to suit his own conveniences. “Charity begins at home.” So first to thyself be true and “thou canst not then be false to no man.” God and Nature first made us first what we are, and out of our own creative Genius we make ourselves what we want to be. Follow always that great law. Let God and the sky be our limit, and eternity our measurement. There is no height to which you cannot climb without the active intelligence of your own mind. Mind creates, and as much as we desire in nature we can have through the creation of our own minds. And today being scientifically the weaker race, you shall treat others only as they treat you; but in your homes and everywhere possible, you must teach the higher development of science to your children; and make sure; and make sure that we have a race of scientists par excellence. For in religion and science lies our only hope to withstand the evil designs of modern materialism. Never forget your God. Remember, that we live, work, and pray for a binding racial hierarchy, whose only natural, spiritual and political limits shall be God and “Africa, at home and abroad.” With God’s dearest blessings, I leave you for a while… ONE LOVE. Chris Wall • Colossians 1:24-29 We live in a world that does not understand the value of suffering. Irealize that in the midst of suffering, it is often hard to recognize value, but Paul often reminded us of the value by rejoicing in difficult times. Paul’s enemies likely made a big deal of the fact that this great leader was writing from a prison cell. But Paul turned this weapon around and used it to help the church recognize the power of God in the midst of his suffering. Amazingly, we can rejoice in suffering because Christ provides strength in the midst of afflictions and in the midst of ministry. The road of ministry is not an easyroad. Every believer is a minister of the gospel. However, the miracle of following Christ is not that He keeps us from tough assignments, but that He walks with us through every tough assignment. God did not call us to easy, He called us to ministry. Let’s fulfill that call at ALL TIMES, in ALL CIRCUMSTANCES, ALL OUR LIVES.

"William Wilberforce knew if he discovered a truth to his satisfaction he would have no choice but to embrace it and act upon it.” ~Eric Metaxas William Wilberforce began life as the son of wealthy merchants. Attractive, charming, funny and sweet, he was the favorite of all who knew him. As a youth he experienced a short conversion and attempted to live as a Christian. But when all those around him discouraged and dissuaded him from following the faithful path, he eventually put religion behind him and learned to enjoy all the luxuries wealth and position could buy him.  Yet, because of his commitment to complete intellectual honesty, when the opportunity opened to him several years later to learn thoroughly about the tenets, principles and governing values of Christianity, he took it. The result was a deep and permanent conversion, and a commitment to living fully as he believed a faithful Christian should. For the rest of his life, he would give all he had--his wealth, his time, his gifts, his money and his love--to the "two great objects" God had placed on his heart: the suppression of the slave trade and the reformation of manners. Although most popularly known for his abolition of the slave trade and slavery, and eventually the complete emancipation of all British slaves, the "reformation of manners" was an even greater legacy. In fact, it is not commonly known that the way people in the West today think and believe about philanthropy and charity can be traced directly back to Wilberforce and his group of fellow Christians.   Join Audrey this week as she shares the power of the Bible and Christian living, and its ability to not only change one man but to empowered him change the society in which he lived. I might say that no pious parent ever labored more to impress a beloved child with sentiments of piety than they did to give me a taste of the world and its diversions.” ~William Wilberforce “For the rest of his life, he struggled terribly with self-discipline and always attributed this weakness to his wasted and feckless years at Pocklington and Cambridge.” ~Eric Metaxas Of his character: “He knew if he discovered a truth to his satisfaction he would have no choice but to embrace it and act upon it.” ~Eric Metaxas After his conversion: “It was not so much the fear of punishment by which I was affected as a sense of my great sinfulness in having so long neglected the unspeakable mercies of my God and Saviour; and such was the effect which this thought produced, that for months I was in a state of the deepest depression, from strong convictions of my guilt.” ~Eric Metaxas “When Wilberforce returned to the House of Commons in 1786, he was a different man…He had lived for so long for his own ambition, that to live for God, as he now longed to do,

There is so much surrounding us that can cause depression, worry, and anxiety. I felt like this was a good time to remind everyone that we don't look to our circumstances for our joy, we look to God. When our eyes are fixed on Him, "the things of this world will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace." I pray this message will bless you and remind you to focus on Jesus, as He is the source of Joy in All Circumstances. I apologize for some of the sound quality issues. I tried to fix them all, but some were beyond my capabilities. Thank you so much for listening and supporting this podcast. Over 180,000 titles to choose from for your iPhone, Android, Kindle or mp3 player.   This is Paula Whidden, I’m an author and pastor and I’m coming to you from my home office while it’s raining outside. I’m all bundled up because it’s chilly and I hope you are bundled up too.    In this episode of the Bible Momming podcast, we are talking about 2 little words that change our lives.    No two words can make a bigger impact on people around you and on you yourself. Those words are easy to say but tough to feel sometimes. Yet, when we embrace them and use them as often as possible, they can change our own hearts even as we say them. They can soften the hearts of others and help give us access to more peace and joy than any other two words.    These words need to be taught, we don’t say them naturally. They take practice to learn to wield well. We often use these words to reflect on being polite. We use them as a sign of courtesy, but they impact our own hearts in bigger ways than we realize.    When my daughter Rachel was around 2 yrs. old, we went to a restaurant and I was helping her to make her own order. When the food arrived,  I leaned over and told her, “Say, thank you.” She then turned to our server and said, “Thank you.” It stunned our waitress and she asked how I did that. I was puzzled. Didn’t she see me tell her to say, “thank you?”   We were teaching her these words. We all have to be taught them and practice them over and over. They don’t come naturally.   In the Bible, they are used many different times by different people in different circumstances  One time in particular stands out for me.    Daniel’s story: Nebuchadnezzar King of Babylon took over Judah. The Babylonians always conquer by taking people back to Babylon and having them integrate with the Babylonian community. From those people he wanted men specifically from the Royal family and other noble families to be brought to him.  They selected men who were strong, healthy and good-looking who were well versed in every branch of learning, who had the knowledge and good judgment. They were trained in the language and literature of Babylon for 3 years and then they would enter royal service.  Daniel was one of those men. He became a consultant to the king of Babylon. When the king needed wise counsel he called on Daniel.   Then, the King had a dream and he wanted someone to help him understand what that dream meant. He wouldn’t tell anyone the dream itself, he wanted them to know the dream and interpret it. This sounds crazy right?   When his first grouping of consultants told him that was impossible, he ordered them all to be killed. So someone comes to Daniel to cart him off to be killed and he has no idea why. When he learns about the problem, he and three other friends who also trusted God (we know them as Shadrach, Meshach and Abednago) start praying to God to have Him help them. Daniel asked the king for more time to interpret the dream and that night he had a vision that explained it all.    Of course he’s very happy to have that happen, so he praises God and thanks Him for helping them.    Daniel 2: 20-23 He said, “Praise the name of God forever and ever, for he has all wisdom and power. He controls the course of the world events, he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars. he reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though he is surrounded by light.  I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors, for you have given me wisdom and strength. You have told me what we asked of you and revealed to us what the king demanded.”   This makes sense. We often go to God and thank him when things go well for us.    We thank him when we get a new job.  We thank him when the car starts after it sounded like it wouldn’t.  We thank him when someone we love is kept safe from danger.    That’s the polite thing to do.    But what happens when things go wrong?   How do we talk with God when the car doesn’t start? When people we love are sick or have been harmed? When things aren’t going well? When a shooting happens at your local high school?   For me, I’m tempted to whine a lot. I complain, or I ask why me or why them. But life isn’t just full of the good times. It comes with hard times.    No one escapes that.    Even Jesus got into uncomfortable positions. Even Jesus had people die who were close to him. Imagine how he felt when he heard that his cousin John the Baptist had been beheaded.    If he faced those challenges, we all will. It makes sense. So, then I wonder if being thankful is something God wants us to do because it’s the polite thing to do or if there’s more to it.  We are going to talk more about this in a moment but I wanted to make sure you know that For you, the listeners of Bible Momming podcast, Audible is offering a free audiobook download with a free 30-day trial to give you the opportunity to check out their service.   I’m currently listening to Unleashing the Power of the Female brain by Dr. Amen. And if you haven’t heard the Harry Potter series on audiobook, it’s amazing.  To download your free audiobook today go to audibletrial.com/BibleMomming. There are certainly polite verses in the Bible.   Psalm 7:17 I will thank the Lord because he is just; I will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.   Psalm 139:14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.   But then, there are other times where it seems way beyond polite to be thankful in certain situations.    1 Thessalonians 5:18 “Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”   Hmm. Be thankful in ALL CIRCUMSTANCES?   So, even if the car doesn’t start,  or my health isn’t what I want it to be,  or my friend or I  experience great pain? or tragedy… I should try to figure out how to be thankful in THOSE situations?   YES. (and we need to help our children to imagine this as an option)   Science has learned that our actions often precede our attitudes. In other words, we may not feel a certain way, but by acting as if we do, we then begin to feel that way.    This makes me think of my friend Sarah. She was terrified to speak and a bunch of social anxiety, but she had learned that if you act confident, you become confident. So, she joined Toastmasters to learn how to speak better. That’s where I met her.    She would shake before she had to speak. I remember a specific time when she was speaking when she was talking about being a confident speaker and her hands were so wet it felt as if she had just washed the dishes when I shook her hand right before she went up to speak.  Sarah was persistent and kept trying. She eventually went to the International Toastmasters' convention and became the 10th best speaker in the world. She’s had articles written about her in Forbes magazine. And it all started by realizing that our actions precede our attitudes.    So if you want to be thankful, you start acting thankful and as a result, you become thankful.  Funny how science often figures out things that God knew all along.    This is an amazing thing to know as a parent. If we teach our children how to be thankful, it’s a part of helping them to truly become thankful people.    Sometimes we know these things without having to have research prove them.   I think Paul knew this when he wrote this to the Philippians. Philippians 4:6 “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”   I think Daniel knew it too.    You see, Daniel had a tough life. He was plucked from his homeland, taken across the known world at that time. Forced to serve a king who neither knew God or honored him. And God helped him through it all. So much so that, for a while, King Nebuchadnezzar actually trusted God. But then, he went back to his self-centered ways and he lost his mind.    A new King took over, King Belshazzar. and once again, Daniel became his advisor. He gave the king guidance from God. He became the third highest ruler and then that king was killed.   The next king, Darius, the Mede, also chose Daniel as an administrator. Other advisors were jealous of the attention Daniel got, so they set him up. They tricked Darius into creating an order that for the next 30 days any person who prays to anyone, divine or human—except the king would be thrown into the lion’s den.    We know this story right. But what I find interesting is Daniel’s response to the signing of this law.    Daniel 6:10 But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God.   A law has been passed that he would be put in the lion’s den if he prayed, and he was so committed to following God that not only did he pray, he did it with the windows open three times that day and he wasn’t begging God to save his life. He wasn’t crying for the people who also prayed regularly. He was thanking God, just as he had always done.   Think about that for a second.    He’s a prisoner, in a foreign land (guilded cage for sure, but still a prisoner). He’s being handed off from king to king and each one dies abruptly or gets killed. Now, his third king, is ready to let him get shredded by hungry lions and he’s thanking God.   That’s hugely convicting to me.    Yes, it says that when they found him he was asking for God’s help. But, Daniel isn’t confident that God will protect him. He doesn’t make any statement that God’s got this. Actually, when he’s led to the den it’s Darius who wishes Daniel would be saved. Darius says, “May your God, who you serve so faithfully, rescue you.“   Daniel is silent.    He’s not some super hero with the power to close the mouths of lions with a single breath. He’s just a man. He’s a faithful man. He’s committed to serving God. But he’s just a man.   I’m sure many such men died regularly as captives. I’m sure Daniel didn’t think of himself as impervious to pain or suffering.    We all know what happened. The stone is put over the lion’s den and the king goes home. Daniel spends the night there and we have no idea what happened except that the next morning the king shows up and opens the den and shouts,   “Daniel, servant of the living God! Was your God, whom you serve so faithfully, able to rescue you from the lions?”   Daniel answered, “Long live the king! My God sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths so that they would not hurt me, for I have been found innocent in his sight. And I have not wronged you, Your Majesty.”   Daniel went on to serve one more King, King Cyrus of Persia. I suspect he prayed 3 times a day with an open window, giving thanks to God each time.    In many ways, Daniel’s life was way more turbulent than our lives have been or will be. His life stands as an example of how we should be living. We should be living with confidence to share that we love and trust God. We should be living with thankful attitudes in our hearts and on our lips as we pray. If he could do it, there should be nothing stopping us.    Our kids need to know that. And in order for that to truly happen, we need to live this truth in front of them.   Colossians 2:6-7 “And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”   It’s tempting for us to complain when life gets tough when our leaders don’t do what we want them to do, when our friends or family or even we suffer. The challenge is to not sink ourselves into that pit of despair. The challenge is to trust God enough to seek out something to thank Him for in the midst of the frustration. The challenge is to begin thanking Him even if we don’t feel it at the moment because He is worth thanking.    As we thank Him, we will receive the peace Paul mentioned in Philippians. We won’t necessarily understand it, but we will receive it. And He will guard our hearts as we face the various trials this life has to offer.    I live in Santa Clarita just one mile from Saugus High school and the shooting that happened there. My children knew other kids who stood next to the shooter and ran for their lives. They also know people who were friends with the shooter. Both groups of people are suffering and so many families have been impacted by this event. And still, there are things we can be thankful for. For the many people of Santa Clarita who have offered free services to kids and their families for everything from therapy to yoga to t-shirts to video games. We can be thankful for the emergency service providers who did everything right. We can be thankful for neighbors who hid running kids. We can be thankful for kids who watched out for other kids and protected them. We can be thankful for families who communicate with and support one another. We can be thankful for the people who lit candles in memory of the shooter all along the street where he lived. We can be thankful for the faculty and their tireless efforts to help the kids even as they struggle with their own fears and frustrations.    As we prepare for Thanksgiving, these words are everywhere. Our ancestors knew the value of them too. We need to remember to say, “Thank you.” Even if you don’t have a fancy meal or a huge crowd of the family to spend time with, we can still do this. We can still be thankful because God is present in our lives and everything we have, whether it’s little or a lot, He provided it for us.      It makes me think of a song I grew up with.   Give thanks with a grateful heart Give thanks to the Holy One Give thank because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son.   And now, let weak say I am strong Let the poor say I am rich Because of what the Lord has done for us   Give thanks.   1 Thessalonians 5:18 “Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”   I want to let you know how thankful I am for you. I pray for you regularly and value you. If this is helpful for you, please share it with a friend. Luke 23:32-43 In this sermon we continue our teaching series “ALL IN”. That phrase describes the life of our Lord and Savior. Last week Dr. Jeremy Sin helped us see that Jesus was ALL IN for ALL PEOPLE from ALL PLACES! This morning we see that Jesus is ALL IN for ALL PEOPLE in ALL CONDITIONS and in ALL CIRCUMSTANCES. Jesus is ALL IN for Pagans & Priests, Image Consultants & Immigrants, Addicts & Architects, Barbarians & Bankers, Prostitutes & Popes, Congressmen & Convicts! Jesus is also ALL IN for the Condemned. The Gospel writer Luke records the astonishing exchange between Jesus and one of the men being executed next to Him. While hanging on the cross between two criminals, in the final moments before His death, Jesus gives all of Himself to a condemned convict. Jesus is ALL IN for ALL PEOPLE at ALL TIMES. The way our Savior died assures us that He is ALL IN for us no matter our condition or our circumstance! Music courtesy of hooksounds.com.

God's Divine Gift Forever changed the course of mankind's destiny. When God entered the world in Bethlehem, the first of Never Ending Blessings was Unleashed from Heaven.Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of all that gives light, in the shining of Whom there can be no variation rising or setting or shadow cast by His turning as in an eclipse. And it was of His own free will that He gave you birth as a child by His Word of Truth, so that we should be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures, a sample of what He created to be consecrated to Himself. James 1:17-18‬Christ was present Originally with God. And All Things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being. In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men. And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it. (John ‭1:2-5) ‬ ‭ ‬Jesus Christ is the GREATEST Gift Imaginable! God made you Alive Together in Fellowship and Union with Christ, Filled with the Richest Measure of God's Divine Presence, Who Liberally Supplying your Necessities, which is your True Advantage in Christ.-Eph 2:6, Col 2:10, Phil 4:19God is Training you to Offer Up Continually at All Times Through the Lord Jesus Christ the Sacrifice of Praise – Thankfully Acknowledging Him in All Circumstances and Calling and Confessing and Glorifying the Name of the Lord.-Ps 116:17, Isa 57:19, Heb 13:15Commit your Works to the Lord in All the Affairs of Life, Roll Each Weight of What Lays Heavily on Mind on Him; Trust and Rely On and be Confident in Him Who Brings you Through Each Difficultly and He will Bring it to Pass for His Glory.-Ps 37:5Cast the whole of your cares, all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all on God, because He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. Roll them on the Lord, releasing the weight of All your Cares Upon Him Who sustain you and Keeps you calm in All Circumstances with His Peace that Surpasses All Understanding; He will never allow the you His child to be moved, made to slip, fall, or fail. (Psalm ‭55:22, Matthew 11:28-29; Philippians 4:6-7; 1 Peter 5:7)Cares are those anxieties, worries and concerns that distract and separate you from focusing on Jesus Benefits, Presence and Provision. Worry and anxiety, are the tools of the Enemy to divide and fracturing your being into parts.God's Grace sustain you - He makes you sufficient for the Cares you Face. The word sustain literally means "to measure;" God Gives you His “measure" of strength and grace sufficient against All Cares and Worries, Because the Strength and Power of Christ Rest Upon you. 2 Corinthians 12:9God assures you He Strengthens and Empowers you His Child as The Good Shepherd, assuming the entire care of your necessities, and supplying you with all your needs as your advantage. God establishes you, so that you shall never fall. The Lord cares for you, yes he cares about you, and especially pays attention, giving thought to – and taking an active interest in you because He loves you. Therefore, do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. And God's peace shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace, which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (‭Philippians 4:6-7)‬Humble yourselves demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you, Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. Today we have a very simple, short, positivity meditation, to help you rewire your mind and transform your day. You can do this anytime of the day, but I recommend it first thing in the morning, and first thing after you get in the office at work. You can also do this first thing after you come home from work, or any time of the day! This meditation goes great with today's guest Michelle Gielan, former CBS News Anchor, Positivity Researcher and a Partner on a Positivity Program with Oprah. To hear Michelle's interview or more meditations from me, or our guests, visit our Inspire Nation Show or inspirenationshow.com. They say gratitude and fear, or for that matter gratitude and unhappiness, cannot co-exist together, it's called cognitive dissonance, a fancy way to say you can't love and hate at the same time. So we're going to pump up your cognitive dissonace to push aware fear, dis-ease, anxiety, unhappiness, or any other negative emotions and quickly replace them with positive ones. In essence, we're going to scan our current environment, our lives at this very time and place, and find at least ten things to be grateful for in the present. For instance, I might say I'm grateful for being healthy today. That's perfect. Or I'm grateful for my job today. Perfect too. But not, I'm grateful for the promotion I got last year. Nope.
