1. The Power of Shared Confession and AgreementThe words we say about ourselves and each other have immense power. Proverbs 18:21 reminds us, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." What we confess about our relationships—whether out loud or in our hearts—sets the tone for how we experience them.When you  agree on certain values or intentions, you're essentially creating a shared story. These agreements become the foundation of how you relate to each other, how you handle challenges, and how you move forward together. It could be as simple as saying, “We're committed to growing together,” or “We believe in the best for each other.”Imagine the power of a couple or a family aligning their words, intentions, and actions. Instead of living reactively, you're shaping your relationship with intention. Amos 3:3 asks, "Can two walk together unless they are agreed?" Walking together in agreement is the key to staying in sync through all the phases of life.2. Writing a Story Together Instead of Living by DefaultMany of us go through life and relationships on autopilot. We get caught up in routines, react to situations as they come, and before we know it, we've allowed the story of our relationships to be written for us by circumstances.But what if you made the choice to write your own story together? This means sitting down as a couple, as a family, or even with a close friend, and talking about what you both want. What do you value most? How do you want to handle challenges? What kind of story do you want to look back on in 5, 10, or 20 years?Proverbs 16:9 reminds us, "The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps." While we may not be able to control everything, we can still set intentions and choose how we will respond to life's twists and turns. By planning and agreeing together, we create a shared vision that will guide us through both smooth sailing and stormy weather.3. Being Flexible and Adaptable as the Story EvolvesEvery relationship goes through seasons—times of joy, times of growth, times of struggle. The agreements and confessions that guided you during your early years together may need to shift as you encounter new phases of life. Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us, "To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven."Being adaptable is key. As you move through different stages—whether it's starting a family, building careers, or facing transitions—you may need to revisit your agreements and make new confessions. The shared story you write together isn't set in stone—it's a living narrative that can grow and evolve just as you do.For example, what worked when you were newlyweds may not fit when you have children or enter retirement. This flexibility allows for growth and ensures that your relationship stays dynamic and resp4. Intentional, Excited, and MotivatedWhat makes a shared story exciting is the ability to intentionally shape it. When you approach your relationship with excitement and motivation, you set the tone for how each new chapter will unfold. You don't have to settle for a “business as usual” mentality in your relationship.This intentionality doesn't mean everything will be perfect. But it does mean you'll have a roadmap to navigate difficulties and a shared vision for where you're headed.Romans 12:2 encourages us to "be transformed by the renewing of your mind." As we intentionally renew our thoughts and words, we can transform not only ourselves but the relationships we are building. With each new season, there's an opportunity to write a new chapter—a chapter filled with growth, love, and mutual understanding.5. Practical Steps to Start Writing Your Story TogetherCreate Agreements: Sit down with your partner or family and talk about the values and principles you both hold dear. Make simple, positive agreements such as, "We will listen to understand" or "We will approach challenges as a team."Confess Good Things: Speak life into your relationship. Begin each day with confessions like, "We are building something beautiful together," or "We are a family that supports and loves each other."Stay Flexible: Revisit these agreements regularly. As your relationship evolves, be willing to adapt. What worked last year may need to shift as new challenges or opportunities arise.Be Excited: Approach this process with joy and excitement. You're not just reacting to life; you're actively creating a shared story that reflects your values, hopes, and dreams.Conclusion: A New Chapter TogetherWriting a shared story isn't about perfection—it's about intention. It's about being proactive in how you relate to your partner, family, or loved ones. It's about building a narrative based on trust, growth, and mutual support.As you move forward, remember that this story will evolve. How do we deal with the unexpected in our lives? Something is happening; our cards are in the air, and we must decide what to do. How do we pick them up? We are responsible for what is in front of us. Treat it not as a nasty joke but as a game. Pick up the last one; where does it go? How do I pick up the unexpected challenges in my life and deal with them? We can pick them up individually; otherwise, we get overwhelmed. When we can't find which way to go, be flexible and ready for the next thing to drop. What do I do now? Flexibility is the key. Discover how to be flexible with everything, including what is happening with our bodies. Remember, it's your choice what you do and how you pick up the cards on the floor. Look at what we chose and where we want to go. We have the power in some way. If we stay flexible, we will find a way to do things differently; we can choose to change it's our choice, our mind. As long as we accept responsibility for our choices and do not blame ourselves, we can find unique ways to live our lives.  Drop judgment of ourselves; when we sit in judgment of ourselves or others, we close down, and then we can't change. We are here on Earth to make choices. 52 pick up is a great concept. We are here to experience and pick up the cards we have thrown up in the air. A whole process is happening. Jill says that even though she has had so many health challenges, including cancer. She picks up the cards and always finds humor in situations. Humor gives us joy, and laughter heals powerfully. Jill always finds going to humor lightens everything. Do what we do with appreciation. We can get lost in what we have to do rather than appreciate it. Whatever we can do to make our earth walk lighter and happier for ourselves and others is the most beautiful feeling.

This follows our introduction on Emotional Maturity in Episode #20 explaining what it is. But here are some characteristics of someone exhibiting emotional maturity: #1: Being Flexible - when things don't go according to plan, emotionally mature people can roll with it and come up with Plans B or even C. They don't let speed bumps derail the entire plan. #2: Taking Ownership and Responsibility - an emotionally mature person has self-honesty and acceptance. They don't need someone to blame when things go wrong. They can objectively look at their contribution in the situation- for more understanding and a better chance to course correct. #3: Knowing that They Don't Know Everything - an emotionally mature person is much more interested in learning than always being right. Depending on your goals, there will be times when you want different macronutrients. However, allowing yourself the flexibility to still eat what brings you joy will lead to long-term sustainability.     Many women are given the wrong message when it comes to their bodies. Yo-yo diets and other unhealthy eating habits are the norm yet they leave us feeling terrible in many ways. Diet culture will take its toll on you. Today’s guest strives to reverse this by setting her patients on the right track.   About Kate Lyman Kate is a nutrition coach and the owner of Kate Lyman Nutrition. With nearly a decade in the fitness industry, Kate understands how to successfully run a nutrition business. Along with her growing team, she has helped hundreds of people change their bodies and eating habits as she breaks myths about dieting and healthy lifestyles.  Kate has a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, a Master's degree in Public Health, and is a Certified Health Education Specialist. Her priority is supporting her clients, but she also manages a team of other qualified coaches and loves to share nutrition education through social media.   The Myths of Perfectionism With many women getting caught up in the pursuit of perfection with their diets and their bodies, Kate has some solid advice. First off, no single diet will lead to perfection. In fact, relying on one will only lead to disappointment and negativity as they are nearly impossible to maintain over the long-run. Coupled with images of “perfect bodies” on social media, it’s no wonder so many women feel inadequate. The truth is, perfection is not the route to your goal.   Being Flexible to Meet Your Goals Rather than relying on any single solution, Kate urges us to practice what she calls flexible nutrition. By tracking your macronutrients to ensure that you're eating right to meet your specific goals, you’ll be able to create the diet that’s right for you. You’ll still be able to eat many of the foods you enjoy, which is an important part of maintaining long-term sustainability. The goals you set are also an important part of long-term health and nutrition. Kate recommends shifting your focus from big lofty goals to more boring-sounding ones. Cathy O’Dowd is the first woman in the world to climb Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain, from both its north and south sides. Her first ascent of Everest happened in the midst of the chaotic events that form of the basis of the ‘true story’ behind the Hollywood movie Everest. Cathy, who grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa, has climbed ever since leaving school. She was completing her Masters degree in Journalism, while working as university lecturer, when she saw a newspaper advert for a place on the 1st South African Everest Expedition. Six months later she was the first South African to summit Everest. Three years later she became the first woman in the world to climb the mountain from both sides. Finally she made one last expedition to Everest to try a new route on the Kangshung face. She has written a book about her Everest experiences, Just For The Love Of It. The years she spent in the Himalaya were for her a degree ‘in living’. The insights she discovered about herself, and about individuals and teams under intense stress in the face of overwhelming challenge, are ones she has been sharing with her corporate audiences ever since. Her stories touch on themes of importance to anyone trying to run successful projects and get the best out of people. Cathy’s most challenging Himalayan epic was as part of team forging a new route on an 8000 metre peak. Although Cathy herself did not reach the summit, two of her teammates did, doing the first ascent of Nanga Parbat via the Mazeno ridge, and winning the prestigious Piolet d’Or for their achievement. She has turned this experience into a fascinating interactive case-study of successful project execution of truly innovative goals. In summer of 2020 she will be doing an exploratory sea kayak expedition along the coast of Greenland and at the end of 2020 she will be sailing to Antarctica to attempt some unclimbed mountains on the Antarctic Peninsular. Cathy is actively involved with charities focused on female empowerment, notably the Rwenzori Women for Health project in Uganda, and the Astraia Female Leadership Foundation in Germany. She lives in Andorra, in the Pyrenees mountains, from where she pursues her speaking career, and explores the mountains of Europe. In her free time she does technical rock-climbing and skimountaineering.
