Andrew Montesi here, the host and producer of this podcast. Instead of an interview, I'm sharing part of my own story. A few months ago, my wife and I with our kids sold almost everything and moved from South Australia to California ... in the middle of the global pandemic, just in time for the US election! Now that the dust is settling, I’ve had a chance to take a moment to reflect on what we’ve done ... the pure faith risk, craziness and the miracles that have unfolded. This really was a matter of putting everything I've learned from my guests on this podcast into action. In this episode, I talk about our journey, the wild faith ride, the goodness of God and what we've learned so far. Even though I know this is really just the beginning.I unpack my learnings in some detail, but here's the dot points for your notes:You need to hear from God for yourselfBeing in the will of God, and aligned with his purpose, trumps circumstances EVERY timeThere has to be unity in the (family) unitGet lean and agileShut your mouthTear up your planFaith without works (faith without evidence of faith) is deadDon’t take your old system into a new seasonSeek Him first and everything else will work out (that's a promise of God)Got any thoughts or feedback? This is an introduction from Andrew Montesi, host and producer of Supernatural Business In Times Of Crisis. Here's the transcription:Before we get in to the interviews, I wanted to share a few quick thoughts for some background and context. This show has been launched in the midst of the global coronavirus pandemic. Seeing the impact has been heartbreaking on every level, but as a guy who is passionate about business, and seeing friends lose everything and economies decimated, I felt prompted to do something, in my own small way. And that was to share the insights and stories of truly amazing people who can see past the circumstances and the turmoil of life, and operate in supernatural power in partnership with God.‘God’, you ask? What kind of business podcast is this? Fair question. But stick with me.I’m been a Christian all of my life, but most of that time I’ve kept things compartmentalised and kept life, business, friendships, Jesus all in separate buckets. Which, to be honest, makes stepping out with this podcast a little confronting.I’ve also been to more than my fair share of cringeworthy Christian business events. But a couple of years ago I started to ask some harder questions. If I really believe in an all powerful, loving God, and resurrection power and salvation through Jesus, then life should look different. If the Bible is true, along with the promises, miracles and Jesus saying that “we’ll do what he does and even greater things”, then why aren’t we seeing it in our lives? And if we call ourselves Christians, but we don’t live in supernatural power and it is all just about getting to heaven when we die … then why are we wasting our time here, now?Let’s just be real.Anyway … asking these big questions has led to a wild ride which is for another podcast, but the same goes in business. If I’m a believer, then surely business has to look different. So, when a pandemic turns the world upside down, or any kind of crisis attacks your business, what does it mean when you’re operating from God’s Kingdom? This is what I talk about with some truly amazing leaders on this podcast. I talk to entrepreneurs, storytellers, marketers and ministers who reveal how to operate from a position of power, in faith instead of fear. These are informal interviews where guests are given the time to share practical and applicable insights while also going really deep - there’s an impartation available for those who want it.If you’re a believer, I hope this will encourage, inspire, challenge and maybe even offend you - in the process of challenging your mindset about Kingdom business, life and your relationship with God.If you’re not sure about your faith, what you believe or don’t believe it all, I think there’s a lot in these interviews for you, too. You may have experienced religion before, to be really clear, this is NOT what we’re talking about. All I ask is you listen with an open heart and mind. For all listeners, I hope these interviews open up a new way of seeing, especially when things get tough in business. Because while these interviews were recorded during the pandemic, they’re for anyone at any time.I expect that you’ll come away with answers and breakthrough but some big, hard questions will remain, about your business, purpose, your life and God. And that’s a good thing. This is just the starting point. Now, please make sure you subscribe to the show on your favourite podcast player so you don’t miss an episode. I’ve pulled this together in a few weeks and I’m rolling out as many interviews as fast as I can.And sign up to our mailing list and connect with me at supernaturalbusinesspodcast.com - I’m keen to connect with you. Thanks for listening.About the show:On the Supernatural Business In Times of Crisis podcast, leaders reveal how to advance your business in adversity, empowering and equipping you with the supernatural power to take on and overcome the impossible.Listen and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts or your favourite podcast player.Produced and hosted by Andrew Montesi, founder of Apiro Consulting and Apiro Media, full stack marketer, media producer and entrepreneur. We end 2018 with some reflection, picking up on an episode we recorded almost a year ago to the day.It was episode 100, when Rooster Radio co-host James Begley unpacked what was the hardest year of his life, in raw detail.A number of our listeners were a bit stunned - it seems not many people understand the financial and personal impact that running a startup can have. After posting the episode, there were more than a few phone calls from concerned mates asking if Begs was holding up ok.(But there are many gold nuggets on business and resilience in that episode, so make sure you wind back to episode 100 if you haven’t already - here's the link.)Now, a year later, a lot has happened since that fateful episode. James' startup PickStar got funded, launched new tech, grew significantly and the future looks bright .. and yet, of course, ’the unknown' always remains. So in this episode, Andrew put Begs under the microscope … enjoy the insights and reflections.Rooster Radio is hosted by Andrew Montesi and James Begley - visit http://roosterradio.bizConnect with Rooster Radio - sign up to our mailing list at http://roosterradio.biz and join our Facebook community at http://facebook.com/roosterradioHQFor podcasting strategy, production and commercial services, visit Apiro Media http://apiropodcasts.comFor other content and marketing services, visit Apiro Consulting http://apiroconsulting.com (Andrew Montesi). For leadership and and high performance services, connect with James Begley http://jamesbegley.com.au

When Rob Dean and Dan Mendelson launched Burger Theory from a converted caravan in Adelaide back in 2011, it kicked off a food truck movement and a burger revolution.Foodies would eagerly await the next Burger Theory tweet to find out the truck's next location. The line ups were notoriously huge. Rob and Dan then moved into bricks and mortar, with three well known restaurants and an enviable brand. An expansion into China didn't work out but business still seemed to be good. Then we heard that Burger Theory had completely overhauled their menu ... no more beef, no chicken and no bacon. Just a kangaroo meat pattie. Wait ... what? We then found out why. The price of beef was going through the roof and unsustainable for the business and environment. So, true to their values of 'thoughtful fast food', Burger Theory came up with a patty blend of 80% kangaroo meat, 20% beef fat and 100% taste. Cue the outrage. Animal advocates, beef loving bogans ... Rob and Dan didn't see the criticism coming. And it has been brutal on social media. The guys tell us the gutsy move to Kangaroo is a risk for their brand and business. But it will be worth it.Rob and Dan talk through the decision making process, the environmental and economic case, managing the fall out, changing culture, and how they became "pioneers by default".Find out more at the Burger Theory website http://burgertheory.com.au (and make sure you try the burger!)Rooster Radio is hosted by Andrew Montesi and James Begley - visit http://roosterradio.bizConnect with Rooster Radio - sign up to our mailing list at http://roosterradio.biz and join our Facebook community at http://facebook.com/roosterradioHQFor podcasting strategy, production and commercial services, visit Apiro Media http://apiropodcasts.comFor other content and marketing services, visit Apiro Consulting http://apiroconsulting.com (Andrew Montesi). For leadership and and high performance services, connect with James Begley http://jamesbegley.com.au

In 2014, Kevin Graham was doing pretty well for himself in South Australia, working in online marketing and doing a few property investments. Then he decided to drop everything and move to Chiang Mai, Thailand .. even though he'd never even travelled to Asia before! We sat down with Kevin for a really interesting case study on how to go from a fairly typical suburban life to 'digital nomad' in a matter of months. Even though the term is a little cliche, 'digital nomads' are basically people who leverage technology to work when and wherever they want - and it's become a big lifestyle trend. Step by step, Kevin tells us how he did it. The practical side - research, planning and logistics; and of course the business - how he's earning an amazing income from affiliate marketing and 'flipping' websites. Kevin shares the tips and traps. It's not all sipping cocktails by the beach. Kevin talks about lifestyle fantasy versus reality, and personal lessons learned from the adventure so far. We deliver this episode to you a week later than planned. Looking back on 2017, and 100 episodes of this podcast, the conversation got personal and cathartic, and we did question whether we'd better off keeping some content out of the public forum. But in the end, true to Rooster Radio values, we've published the chat in full, because we believe the stories shared will bring you value. James Begley, co-host of Rooster Radio and CEO of PickStar, was forced to "surrender to the unknown" in 2017. The year began with big promises and detailed plans for PickStar, before a set of uncontrollable circumstances threw everything up in the air. As the company founder, James personally put everything on the line to keep the future of the business secure. It was frustrating, exhilarating, demoralising ... but from one year he has come away with a lifetime of learnings, and enormous personal and business growth. At the transition point of the year, James and Andrew also reflect on their vision, values and goals (if any!). Then, having reached "the ton" on Rooster Radio, we look back at some of our favourite episodes and the amazing insights that have stuck with us from our favourite interview guests. It's no secret that the current lack of affordable housing in Australia leaves many prospective home-buyers simply out of the race. This week Kym sits down for an extended chat with accomplished Adelaide Radiologist and Director of Fluid Solar Thermal - Roger Davies, who has come up with a plan. Aside from being an expert in Radiology, and Director at Adelaide MRI, his entrepreneurial tendencies have led him to patent his own renewable solar energy solutions in his $8m commercial building Fluid Solar House ( www.fluidsolarthermal.com ) which has been backed by Tesla & the State Government. More interestingly is his plan to create modular-style affordable housing using the same technology that can be built and maintained for a fraction of the cost of conventional housing. Rooster Radio - Stories & Insights from Entrepreneurs and Leaders in Business, Health, Tech & More
How much do you know about the Leader of the South Australian Liberal Party, Steven Marshall? Not much, a lot of South Australians would confess. Some others would say "he's negative". Steven says his image is influenced by a daily media cycle where the most he can often hope for is a few seconds to criticise the State Government. This, he says, is the frustrating "curse of the Opposition." During our interview at Parliament House, Steven is anything but negative. He's relaxed, engaging and jovial. Maybe because the 2018 election draws closer, where he'll get another chance to break a 16-year run of Labor governance. This was expected to happen in 2014, but Steven admits that he and his party blew it. He talks about the aftermath, keeping the team together, learning from mistakes and his personal evolution as a leader. Steven still draws on his much talked about background in business, structuring goals and KPIs like most company directors. He is mentored by former Prime Minister John Howard, and still takes a call from his Dad every day .. who remains a big influence on his life. We also talk about the challenge of articulating his vision, the personal toll of politics and try to reveal a little more of the real Steven Marshall. People don't like talking about death. So it's no wonder that most people do not have their affairs in order. But Kym says it's a massive problem. Not having a Will, Enduring Power of Attorney or other important documents means that the Court makes the big decisions for you; who gets all of your assets when you pass away, who makes important decisions on your behalf if you lose capacity, and other critical issues. Not only that, these issues create enormous stress and costs for affected loved ones. Kym has seen it first hand, as an accountant and even within his own family. He shares his insights, and talks you through the four key documents you need to organise NOW! (Don't wait). Listen now. “This first drill hole, this beautiful black stuff came up, absolutely unbelieveable.” Kym Nitschke interviews Ernie Kirsten, co-founder of mining company Millennium. Ernie was running his own private practice as a chartered accountant when he started doing the books for a geologist. The duo began looking into coal explorations and, despite seeing a map that marked a North Queensland area as “no coal”, decided to look a little deeper. It was a masterstroke, and Ernie’s geologist became the client that paid off big time. Listen to the interview and get the full story now. Rooster Radio - Stories & Insights from Entrepreneurs and Leaders in Business, Health, Tech & More
Finn Peacock's decision to quit the '9 to 5' life led him to build a home based business that now generates $3 million in annual revenue. Finn was an engineer earning good money in a job with the CSIRO that most people would aspire to. But he hated it. The bureaucracy was so frustrating that it was impacting all aspects of his life. On the back of some passive income from e-book sales, and some inspiration from Tim Ferriss' iconic book the Four Hour Work Week, he quit his full-time job. And that wasn't all. With two kids and another on the way, he sold the family home and began a journey from campsite to caravan park down the east coast of Australia, while running his e-book business from his laptop. But it wasn't e-books that would take Finn to the next level. With a passion for renewable energy and a booming market for solar, he started a website called Solar Quotes, a lead generation business that enables people to get three quotes from reputable, local Solar installers. Around 300,000 people have used the site to get quotes. Finn talks about his amazing growth and content strategies, as well as the tough stuff, which included being banished from Google search results for a year. Finn has strong opinions about how to build a business and has grave concerns about the model for building startups, which largely relies on VC money (we should also point out that Finn hasn't taken a cent of investment while building Solar Quotes). There's a heap of gold here, especially for people looking to forge their own path in business and life. Kym's fascination with "squatters" continues with the story of the Adelaide man who was allowed to stay in an abandoned property after a gambler paid his council rates. Kym says there's more to it than simply a bizarre and interesting story. The combination of property, accounting and legal complexities of squatter issues make for interesting case studies with lessons to be learned. It also highlights that property ownership, investment and development is never black and white - which can be a blessing or curse if you're in the market. In a change up for Rooster Radio listeners, James Begley interviews his co-host Andrew Montesi about podcasting. We are in the midst of a podcasting revolution - around 60 million people listen to podcasts every month in the US, and in Australia soon 1 in 2 people will be tuning in to the medium. Early Rooster Radio listeners who have been on the journey with us will recall the show's early, crudely produced episodes (which are still available on our episode list *cringe*) and how the program continues to evolve. For Andrew, a former journo who has been producing content of all kinds for 13+ years, the podcast was an experiment which quickly turned into something much more. In this episode, he talks about why he believes podcasts are the most powerful media, how to start a show, the tech required, lessons learned and much more. Kym has parted ways with a longtime staff member. It was a huge decision with both commercial and personal implications. He could see his accounting firm's company culture starting to fray. In a small business, there’s no where to hide even though, by Kym’s own admission, he tried to put his head in the sand for some time. “Hiring and firing” means so much to a small business. Right and wrong decisions have an enormous impact. True to the Accounting Insider theme, Kym bares all about the process, what went right and what went wrong, the reasoning behind the decisions made and the end result. Your customer is worth a hell of a lot more than you think. After winning a client, some business owners won't consider much more about that client's value. Or they might look at the client's value narrowly - how much am I invoicing this client, or how much did that client pay me last financial year? Fewer business owners look at the client's value for the entire period that they remain a client. Kym has recently gone through this process, and was surprised about the true value of his clients and the impact of that on the value of his overall business. This leads to cost per customer acquisition. When you know a client's true worth, you have a better idea about what you should be spending to acquire that client. Kym explains the importance of these critical metrics and how to crunch these numbers to gain a true understanding of your business. Just days before Kym's well-earned Bali holiday, disaster struck. One of his tenants contacted him about a problem. And this isn't just any tenant - he's a lawyer who knows his way around the Tenancies Act. So Kym was on his toes, but still expected that the issue could be dealt with on his return from Bali.
