Given his many incarnations, from a foxy cartoon heartthrob, to the gruff and grizzled Hugh Jackman that previewed this week, it's hard not to fall in love with some version or other of Robin Hood. And as we'll find out in this episode, even jolly old Saint Nick just happens to be a fan. This week, Danièle speaks with Alexander L. This Christmas, we ask a haunting question: Do Christians know it's Christmas time at all? When the loudest voices in Christianity celebrate the birth of Jesus while ignoring everything he taught — feeding the hungry, welcoming the immigrant, loving without condition — something's gone terribly wrong. In this episode, we take an honest, sometimes snarky, always heartfelt look at how Christian nationalism and ultra-right beliefs miss the very heart of Christmas. We'll talk about the hypocrisy, the fruit of those beliefs, and what it really means to live out the radical love of Jesus in our world today.Because Christmas isn't about power, control, or culture wars. In this episode, Scott and Deb reflect on how expectations can quietly steal peace and why Christ didn't wait for calm, order, or perfect conditions to come. This conversation is an invitation to stop managing outcomes, notice where Jesus already is, and receive Him as He comes—right in the middle of the glorious mess.

Step with me into a palace that no longer stands, yet once witnessed some of the most important Christmases of the Tudor age. In this episode of my Tudor Christmas Advent series, we journey to Richmond Palace, once known as Shene: a beloved winter residence of the Tudor monarchs, rebuilt by Henry VII after a devastating fire and transformed into one of the most elegant palaces of the dynasty. Although Richmond has almost entirely disappeared, surviving sketches, descriptions, and ground plans allow us to reconstruct it in our imagination - its great halls glowing with candlelight, greenery hung for Christmas, music echoing through long galleries, and the Thames mist curling around red-brick towers. This was a palace where: Henry VII celebrated Christmas with ceremony and splendour Henry VIII spent tense, politically charged winters during the Great Matter and Elizabeth I passed her final Christmas, bringing the Tudor dynasty quietly to a close Richmond was not just a festive retreat — it was a stage for power, diplomacy, celebration, and endings. If you enjoy uncovering lost Tudor places, imagining historic Christmases, and exploring the quieter, more atmospheric side of royal history, this episode is for you. If Richmond Palace still stood today, would you want to walk its halls at Christmastime? Let me know in the comments. The last time Trisha Yearwood was on the show was back in 2021, when she was here to discuss a cookbook called Trisha's Kitchen, but this year has been all about music. In 2025, Trisha came out with not one but two new albums, a remarkable burst of energy and creativity. The Mirror, which she released over the summer, was her first album in six years, a personal and passionate collection of songs—all 15 of which she co-wrote—that some have called the best work of her career. Then in November she came out with a holiday record called Christmastime, which she recorded with a full orchestra and followed up with a series of concerts all over the country. Trisha is still cooking up a storm, of course, especially around the holidays. She talked to Sid about some of her longtime Christmas traditions with her husband, Garth Brooks, why they're always one of the first houses in the neighborhood to put up their lights, and the new holiday song they wrote together, “Merry Christmas, Valentine.” For more info visit: southernliving.com/biscuitsandjam Sid Evans - Editor-in-Chief, Southern Living Krissy Tiglias - GM, Southern Living Lottie Leymarie - Executive Producer Michael Onufrak - Audio Engineer & Editor/Producer Jeremiah Lee McVay - Producer Learn more about your ad choices. I hired them both as teaching artists for children's theater back in the day, and they went to college with Shaun. Our connections run deep. Even if I haven't seen or talked to them in a while, all bets are off when we connect, and it's like no time has gone by. I cherish them both. To make more merry, they were quizzed on some Christmas movie quotes, and then some questions around Christmas. We actually ran out of time. Maybe you could tell we could have kept going for many hours to come. Hopefully you are as entertained as we clearly were. Whether we're talking about the merits, or lack of them for My Favorite Things as a Christmas song, or whether The Twelve Days of Christmas has too many birds, we covered as much as we could. For those things we will be pondering, we've got our work cut out for us to look into them and then we'll come back and share our findings. Collaborating is fulfilling. When you can come together and be more than you could have been on your own, it's simply the best. Just like these two. The story's time-bending elements allow the characters, and the audience, to sit with grief, curiosity and compassion, offering a rare Hallmark exploration of reflection, regret and understanding rather than simple wish fulfillment. We also explore the slow-burn romance between two people who have known each other forever, and what it means to find love later in life with someone whose history is already woven into your own. Their connection isn't about sparks or grand gestures, but about safety, shared memories and finally seeing each other clearly after years of parallel lives. We discuss how the Grand Ole Opry serves as a meaningful emotional anchor tied to family legacy and unfinished conversations, and why this movie resonates so strongly for viewers navigating loss, second chances and the idea that it's never too late for love, healing or answers at Christmastime. It was Christmastime — a season of peace, light, and goodwill — which made the slow unraveling of their minds all the more disturbing.IN THIS EPISODE: Despite being in the middle of the first World War, on Christmas Day, 1914 British and German soldiers sang carols together, exchanged gifts with the enemy combatants, and supposedly even played a soccer game against each other in order to celebrate the holiday. (The Great War's Christmas Truce) *** The case was so mysterious it was even featured on TV's “Unsolved Mysteries” and “America's Most Wanted”: who committed the Christmas murder of Latricia White? And what happened to Lee and Chance Wackerhagen? (An Unsolved Christmas Murder Mystery) *** We're so used to seeing old St. Nick showing up with a big bag of toys for the kiddies – but what if he arrived with another bag full of switches for your parents to use the whole year through if you were on his naughty list? We'll look back at when Santa wasn't purely jolly and jovial, and when he arrived to dole out both presents and punishment! (Santa's Naughty List) *** The Los Feliz murder mansion became the site of a horrifying and sad Christmas tragedy for one California family. (Christmas At The Los Feliz Murder Mansion) *** A haunting holiday mystery took place in England in 1916 when a young bride simply disappeared without a trace. (The Vanishing Christmas Bride) *** A man tries to take on supernatural forces – and ends up as an undead creature who appears as a terrifying Yuletide spirit. Imagine rounding a frosty corner and discovering a house that looks as if it's stepped straight out of a Tudor fairytale or Harry Potter - crooked beams, bowing floors, glittering leaded windows, and a long gallery that seems to float above thin air. In today's Tudor Christmas Advent episode, I take you on a winter wander through Little Moreton Hall in Cheshire, one of the most extraordinary, beautifully preserved, and delightfully wonky Tudor houses in England. Built and expanded across the 1500s by the Moreton family, this timber-framed masterpiece has survived centuries of weather, war, and subsidence to offer us a rare glimpse into the world of Tudor gentry life: - A Great Hall where winters were lit by fire and candlelight - Intricate carved panelling and glowing 16th-century glass - A famous Long Gallery perched improbably above the courtyard - A recreated Tudor knot garden sleeping under its winter frost - A private chapel that witnessed every shift of 16th-century religion And thanks to musician and historian Jane Moulder, who works at Little Moreton Hall, we'll enjoy her beautiful winter photographs of the house, capturing its magical atmosphere in the coldest season. If you love Tudor architecture, Christmas ambience, or fairy-tale historic houses, you're in for a treat. Tell me in the comments: Have you ever visited Little Moreton Hall? If not, which Tudor house would you most love to see at Christmastime? His peace will be perfect (vv. 6-9)IV. His majesty will be magnetic (v. 10)Digging Deeper    Read Isaiah 11:1-101. What injustices in our world make you wish for peace? What does the coming of Jesus have to say about this?2. When you want peace, who or what do you look to?3. In the sermon, a distinction was made between what delights human rulers and what delights our King, Jesus. What is different about what Jesus desires from us, versus what earthly leaders and rulers often desire? (see Isa. 1:23)4. What would it look like to grow in delighting in God, fearing him in a way that longs to honor him?5. This sermon focused on the kind of righteous rule that Jesus, this promised King, will have. What do you most look forward to about his promised rule?6. In Jesus's righteous rule, he will enact justice always. As was said in the sermon, if this is our king, we had better live like him. How can we obey this call in our daily lives?7. Reread Isaiah 11:6-9, which gives us a picture of what eternity with the Prince of Peace will be like. Which of these particular pictures of peace do you long for? Why does your heart long for this?8. To get another picture of the peace which comes in eternity, read Revelation 22:1-5. What do these verses mean to you, and how can we start to live out this peace now between one another?9. “When the King came the first time, it wasn't to judge, but to save.” How did Jesus fulfill this purpose in his life on earth? What will be different about his second coming?10. It can feel counterintuitive to consider this majestic, righteous, peacemaking king when Christmas is supposed to be about baby Jesus lying in the manger. Why do you think there is goodness in thinking this way about Jesus at Christmastime? Prayer

Everyone longs for “peace on earth” at Christmastime, but few stop to ask what kind of peace the angels actually announced. In Luke 2, the message isn't sentiment, serenity, or political calm—it's something far deeper and far more urgent: peace with God himself. Join as we explore the Christmas gift that changes everything: “God and sinners reconciled.”1) Peace on earth: what it isn't2) Peace on earth: what it isText: Luke 2:8-14, Romans 5:1

Christmastime can be challenging for our mental and emotional health. In “Worship,” Pastor Dave Gustavsen uses Mary's song to show us how and why we should worship. Encouraged by Elizabeth, Mary moves from quiet obedience to joyful worship, showing the power of worship in community. Her song celebrates a God who lifts the humble and brings down the proud. This Christmas, we're invited to stop magnifying ourselves and instead magnify the Lord—discovering the healing that worship brings.  Dave Gustavsen | December 14, 2025Visit our website or connect with us on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

“For, there is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time.” (1 Timothy 2:5–6 NLT) One way to prepare for Christmas is to consider the long-reaching implications of the Incarnation. There’s a reason that human history is split into two eras: before Christ’s birth and after. Nothing was ever the same again. One implication of Jesus’ coming that rarely gets mentioned at Christmastime is found in John 14:6. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me” (NLT). The apostle Paul put it this way: “For, there is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time” (1 Timothy 2:5–6 NLT). When God sent His Son into the world to fulfill His plan of salvation, He eliminated the possibility that there is any other path to Him. Jesus alone can bridge the gulf that sin created between us and God. Jesus alone can give us eternal life. One of the most frequently asked questions regarding the Christian faith goes something like this: “What about the person who has never heard that Jesus is the only way to God? What about the person in the middle of the jungle who has never heard the gospel?” (The person in question is almost always in a jungle for some reason.) The teaching that Jesus Christ is the only way to God has never been popular. But it’s never been more controversial than it is today. If you want to get someone’s blood boiling, quote John 14:6 or 1 Timothy 2:5–6. The “Coexist” bumper sticker on their car will catch fire. To say that Jesus is the only way to God is, in effect, to have the audacity to say that other religions are not true. That’s the way the spiritual equation works itself out, and people don’t like it. It’s acceptable to say that Jesus is a way to God. But when you dare to say that He is the only way, then you can be certain that you’ll have some pushback. But here’s what it comes down to. As believers, we have to say what the Bible says, whether it’s popular or not. It’s not for us to edit the message of the Bible. Our responsibility is simply to deliver the message. Otherwise, it would be like a doctor who discovers a very serious problem with a patient’s health but then is unwilling to say what the problem is, out of concern that it might make the patient uncomfortable. We must tell people the truth about their real condition, which happens to be sinful, and then seek to save them, which is to point them to Jesus Christ as the only solution. #HolidayHorrors | Hundreds of people have reported encounters with what looks exactly like Santa Claus — and they weren't children dreaming on Christmas Eve. If the real Santa doesn't exist, what are these witnesses actually seeing... and why does it want to be seen?IN THIS EPISODE: Many of us are familiar with the flip side of Father Christmas – the darker entity who visits and kidnaps bad children, Krampus. But when it comes to true fear, even Krampus would run in terror at the sight of Iceland's Gryla, the Christmas Witch! With roots dating back to the 13th century, Gryla is not to be messed with!
