Let Freedom Ring Pt. 8: Free To Live by the Spirit By Louie Marsh, 7-21-2024 ONE WEIRD WEEK! 1) There's only TWO ways to live “16So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16, BSB) Ø By the HOLY SPIRIT Ø By my SINFUL NATURE (flesh) Talk about what flesh is and isn't. I must choose between them CONSTANTLY. “17For the flesh craves what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” (Galatians 5:17–18, BSB) We will live with this war as long as we live – no Louie Land ideal life of not being torn. 2) Results of following my sinful nature. “19The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; 20idolatry and sorcery; hatred, discord, jealousy, and rage; rivalries, divisions, factions, 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:19–21, BSB) 4 Areas: SEXUALITY : sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery FALSE WORSHIP idolatry and witchcraft RELATIONSHIPS hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; DRUNKENESS drunkenness, orgies, and the like 3) Results of following the Holy Spirit “22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” (Galatians 5:22–24, BSB) I live a life of LOVE Love is the fruit of the Spirit – all the rest of the list define love! That's critical in this day of having no idea what love really is! 4) So I must choose to… “25Since we live by the Spirit, let us walk in step with the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying one another.” (Galatians 5:25–26, BSB) REFUSE to follow my sinful nature. STAY IN STEP with the Holy Spirit.

We discuss the importance of saying birchat hamazon out loud as it focusses one's concentration, and whether it is permitted to say it whilst in various degrees of drunkeness.
We take a look at 1 Cor 6 from another angle, noting the clear context of 1 Cor 5. Yes, believers are capable of falling into all kinds of wickedness if they follow the carnal nature (the flesh). This leads to Paul's instructions for marriage in 1 Cor 7 which we then contrast with his Post-Acts instructions in 1 Timothy. We get our Acts and Post-Acts doctrines lined up and rightly divided. Are you settling for a lesser hope?

Dogs Are Smarter Than People: Writing Life, Marriage and Motivation
Since it's the time of holidays for many religions, we thought it would be a great time to talk about the ancient types of drunk-foolery from the 1500s and how they still exist today. And, a random story about a sleigh-riding Santa. There's a great post on Medium from back in November by Jack Shepherd one of Buzzfeed's former directors. I know nothing about Jack Shepherd but he has a post “These Are the 8 Types of Drunk, According to the 16th Century” and since NYE is coming up, I wanted to have a podcast about it. All of Shepherd's list comes from Thomas Nashe wrote a pamphlet called “Pierce Penniless: His Supplication to the Devil.” Nashe was on this Earth in the late 1500s and he was a silly man. DOG TIP FOR LIFE Don't wait to be drunk to tell people you love them. Embrace who you are without the intoxicating liquors, human. Links We Reference: https://nypost.com/2022/12/14/sleigh-riding-santa-claus-ticketed-by-grinch-cop-petty-to-say-the-least/ SHOUT OUT! The music we've clipped and shortened in this podcast is awesome and is made available through the Creative Commons License. Here's a link to that and the artist's website. Who is this artist and what is this song? It's “Summer Spliff” by Broke For Free. WE HAVE EXTRA CONTENT ALL ABOUT LIVING HAPPY OVER HERE! It's pretty awesome. AND we have a writing tips podcast called WRITE BETTER NOW! We have a podcast, LOVING THE STRANGE, which we stream live on Carrie's Facebook and Twitter and YouTube on Fridays. Her Facebook and Twitter handles are all carriejonesbooks or carriejonesbook. But she also has extra cool content focused on writing tips here. Carrie is reading one of her poems every week on CARRIE DOES POEMS. And there you go! Whew! That's a lot!
In this week's episode, we look at a series of three poems by Su Dongpo, the Song poet who was sent into exile multiple times. This series of poems is about his time in the crummiest of exiles, on Hainan Island. Drunkeness here is a metaphor for giving up on life in officialdom (though it was also non-metaphorical as well...).
Welcome and thank you for tuning in! The reading and discussion will be taken from Galatians 5:1- 26. Peace and Blessings!SisterGMinister Glenda Coker

Romans Chapter 13:1-141 It is important that all of us submit to the authorities who have charge over us because God establishes all authority in heaven and on the earth. 2 Therefore, a person who rebels against authority rebels against the order He established, and people like that can expect to face certain judgment. 3 You see, if you do the right thing, you have nothing to be worried about from the rulers; but if you do what you know is wrong, the rulers will make sure you pay a price. Would you not rather live with a clear conscience than always have to be looking over your shoulder? Then keep doing what you know to be good and right, and they will publicly honor you.4 Look at it this way: The ruler is a servant of God called to serve and benefit you. But he is also a servant of God executing wrath upon those who practice evil. If you do what is wrong, then you'd better be afraid because he wields the power of the sword and doesn't make empty threats. At the time, Christians are a tiny minority within Judaism, a minor religion in the largest empire the world has ever seen. Minorities are often the subjects of rumors, suspicions, and innuendos. Christians don't need to add to the problem by developing a reputation as lawbreakers and rebels. So Kingdom citizens are not to dodge taxes or cheat on fees imposed by legitimate governing authorities. They are to show the proper respect for officials in power. Ultimately those who follow the truth of the gospel under the banner of the Anointed One may find themselves at odds with the powers that be. But Paul's counsel here is not a blanket approval of any and every government that may arise in a broken world.5 So submission is not optional; it's required. But don't just submit for the sake of avoiding punishment; submit and abide by the laws because your conscience leads you to do the right thing. 6 Pay your taxes for the same reason because the authorities are servants of God, giving their full attention to take care of these things. 7 Pay all of them what you owe. If you owe taxes, then pay. If you owe fees, then pay. In the same way, give honor and respect to those who deserve it.8 Don't owe anyone anything, with the exception of love to one another—that is a debt which never ends—because the person who loves others has fulfilled the law. 9 The commands given to you in the Scriptures—do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not take what is not yours, do not covet —and any other command you have heard are summarized in God's instruction: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”10 Does love hurt anyone? Absolutely not. In fact, love achieves everything the law requires.Believers are not to have any obligation of any kind. Borrowed money and granted favors always come with strings attached. How many lives and families have been ruined by debts and deals made in haste! There is only one obligation Paul allows, and that is love. When we share God's care and compassion with others, we fulfill His law whether we realize it or not. Fundamentally, God's law has always been about love.11 And now consider this. You know well the times you are living in. It is time for you to wake up and see what is right before your eyes: for salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. 12 The darkness of night is dissolving as dawn's light draws near, so walk out on your old dark life and put on the armor of light. 13 May we all act as good and respectable people, living today the same way as we will in the day of His coming. Do not fall into patterns of dark living: wild partying, drunkenness, sexual depravity, decadent gratification, quarreling, and jealousy. 14 Instead, wrap yourselves in the Lord Jesus, God's Anointed, and do not fuel your sinful imagination by indulging your self-seeking desire for the pleasures of the flesh. - The VoiceBlessings,Minister Glenda @ www.glendacoker.orgSisterG

This message is not to offend anyone but to educate believers on the dangers of pharmaceutical drugs that are being pushed upon people. Often times when we see witchcraft in the New Testament we think of an old lady with a black hat and a broom but that is not what the Bible is referencing. Pharmaceutical drugs are a big business that draws in large revenue to the government and the medical industry. In 1960 the money brought in for medicines in the United States was 2.7 billion dollars. In 1970 that number doubled to 5.5 billion. In the year 2020 that number ballooned to 539 billion dollars. God warns us of drugs (pharmaceutical and illegal drugs) in the Bible. As Christians we have often heard that the Bible doesn't mention drugs but the word witchcraft/sorcery in Galatians 5 is Pharmakeia which is where we get our word pharmacy from. The Greek word for drunkenness in Galatians 5 is Methe which is the root word for methamphetamines. Being addicted to drugs and alcohol opens a person up to demonic activity which is not God's will. There are Christian believers who are addicted to illegal drugs, prescribed drugs and alcohol and that should not be. Paul, the Apostle said those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God. Many people to include Christians are addicted to drugs and alcohol because they find themselves bound in bitterness, unforgiveness and pride. Jesus has the power to set anyone free if they submit to Him. Scripture references: Galatians 5:19-21, James 5:13-16, Revelation 9:21, Revelation 18:23, Revelation 21:5-8, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Corinthians 10:5

Today - I've recorded my unscholarly translation of Prudentius's Psychomachia for you. Originally written in Latin in the fifth century, I was thrown out of Latin for making up stories about Orphelia in the Underworld, so it's hardly scholarly. But Praise Be to the miracle of Google Translate, a dictionary, and other translations, the tools I've used for translations of Baudelaire, Rimbaud and Verlaine. The result is likely as wild as the cartoons of the illuminated manuscript (c.1016) which attracted me to steal this “War of The Soul”, or “Battle of Vice and Virtue” as the title for my novel, I needed something better than the various working titles since I began drafting back in 2005: Medicine, Old Street Eagles, De-railed, The Dublin Notes, The Icarus Project, So Fist, and Papershoes. Psychomachia felt like a heavenly intervention and the perfect allegory for a girl who wakes up all Jean Genet, in the 90s, unsure if she's murdered the arch patriarch of rock n roll.

To drink more than one’s health or income or reputation can bear, is folly, wickedness, and a shame! And yet it is an ordinary consequence of excessive drinking. Important as this consideration is, it would not matter much if the salvation of the soul and the law of God were not concerned also. For the worst of all the evil consequences of excessive drinking, which should be most effective to deter Christians from that vice, is, that most people drink more than is consistent with the salvation of their souls. But here some may be inclined to say, like our Lord in to-day’s Gospel, “which of you shall convince me of sin”? What nonsense to say that it is a sin to drink a drop too much now and then! So common has this vice become that it is no longer looked upon as sinful. My object now is to show how false and wrong that idea is.

In early June a Churchill statue in Parliament Square was defaced when a BLM protester graffitied 'was a racist' on the plinth. This, along with the topping of slave trader Edward Colston's statue in Bristol, attracted a response from a section of the far right dominated by Tommy Robinson, lad culture and base nationalism. On the 13th of June around 4000 far right demonstrators swarmed london, some travelling from as far as Sunderland. Drunkeness, violence and mad disrespect to the memorial of PC Keith Palmer followed. We discuss the build up to the 13th, what happened on the day - including an eye witness account - and talk about how anti-fascists should respond to the BLM demonstrations sweeping the country.

Drinking alcohol and its relation to sin is often misunderstood. Some Christians believe that any drinking at all is sinful while others seem to think that no amount of drinking is sinful. Both extremes are false. Moral theology makes important distinctions that need to be kept in mind when determining the sinful nature regarding alcohol. In this episode of Spiritual Combat, we discuss the sin of drunkenness.
