A man... of few words. A man... with a poncho. A man... with no name. Although perhaps he does have a name and it's Joe but that's not important. We're doing the Dollars Trilogy aka The Man With No Name Trilogy, a series of spaghetti westerns directed by master filmmaker Sergio Leone and starring the god Clint Eastwood. Before we talk about the film we also discuss what we've been watching recently: THE GORGE, WOMAN OF THE HOUR, and 47 RONIN. Ben is back from Halifax and Alex is back from Mexico. How were their trips? Acceptable!Join us next week for the 2nd instalment in the Dollars Trilogy, FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE. How many dollars more? (His book All the Way with JFK: An Alternate History of 1964 can be found here http://amzn.to/2jVkW9m and Big Crimson 1: There's a New Vampire in Town can be found here https://amzn.to/3GsBh2E.) Phillip starts the show by reading the general information about For A Few Dollars More, with some facts thrown in. It's then time for Listener Opinions from Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Then Phillip and Fred discuss this movie. It's a very fun conversation. Phillip then asks whether they notice anything Tarantino might have liked or used in a film. Then the two of them individually rate the movie. They then answer whether they would buy this movie, rent it, or find it for free. It's then time for Phil's Film Favorite of the Week; Eastern Condors (1986). Fred recommends the movie, The Outfit (1973). Fred Schaefer is on X - https://x.com/Fcsnva Phillip then teases next week's show where he will be joined by Rob Papp from The Cinemigos Podcast to discuss The Devil's Rain (1975). Sometimes, the consensus is that the sequel is actually better than the movie (see The Empire Strikes Back, Godfather Part II, For A Few Dollars More, The Winter Soldier, Evil Dead 2, Wrath of Khan, or Paddington 2 for examples), and now that we're in the back half of Werewolf Winter, let's find out how the Jason Bateman-led Teen Wolf Too stacks up against the original. Surely, they wouldn't just try to cash in on a *monster* hit, would they? Behold, the greatest scene in any film ever. One might say it's RAD. The movies we will be investigating to see if he simply referenced them in this film or blatantly ripped them off are, John Carpenter's, "The Thing" (1982) & Sergio Leone's "For A Few Dollars More" (1965). Those Wonderful People Out There In The Dark

I can count on one hand the number of films whose introductions startled or entranced me. Citizen Kane, yes, 2001, sure. But one that fascinated me was at a free showing (thanks student ID) during grad school. The film was Aguirre, The Wrath Of God. Besides an interesting title, the opening sequence showed a trail of people traversing a huge, verdant mountain, surrounded in deep, then evaporating fog; conquistadors in heavy breastplates and helmets, indigenous natives impressed into service carrying immense loads, priests, elegant women, horses, donkeys. On the soundtrack, incredible music was describing this journey, as the camera hove into the sight of a blonde helmeted warrior, who seemed to be both frenzied and completely calm. The music was from the West German group Popol Vuh. The half-mad conquistador I recognized slightly from his small roles in many spaghetti Westerns, especially For A Few Dollars More. It was Klaus Kinski. Later, I looked up the director who visualized this and other dream-like scenes in the film --- the German, Werner Herzog.email: David@thosewonderfulpeople.comWebsite and blog: www.thosewonderfulpeople.comIG: @thosewonderfulpeopleTwitter: @FilmsInTheDark

Our Salute to Westerns moseys on with the most iconic trilogy of westers: The Man With No Name trilogy (A Fistful of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More, The Good The Bad and the Ugly). They feature Clint Eastwood as the eponymous Man with No Name as he traverses the West, gunning down outlaws, pitting warring families against one another, and searching for buried Confederate gold. The films were all directed by the master auteur of westerns Sergio Leone, and scored impeccably by Ennio Morricone, and have gone to be the finest example of spaghetti westerns in the genre. As always, you can follow Chris Stachiw on Twitter at @HeelStach, John Lein at @johnlein1, and Kulture Shocked at @KultureShocked. You can also subscribe to the Kulturecast on iTunes here. Also, don't forget to check out our official Facebook page for news, upcoming reviews, contests, and new content.

It is here!!! A gigantic episode for a gigantic trilogy!!! There are few trilogies that encompass the GGtMC like Sergio Leone's Man with No Name Trilogy, the listeners selected this content and the Gents delivered with an almost 4 hour program for your listening pleasure. We cover A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For A Few Dollars More (1965) and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (1966). We go over what we watched and in that section Will wanted to mention the influence that Kenneth Anger's films, particularly Scorpio Rising, had on current directors including William Friedkin and others. He forgot to mention the Friedkin connection so I am mentioning it here in the show notes. We also talk about the top 10 films that we have turned each other on to over the last two years...Enjoy!!
