INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None In this second episode that reviews toxic additives that wind up in our food supply, I look at three more examples. In California, these additives were banned in 2023 as part of the California Food Safety Act since the federal government was dragging its feet. Since then, the FDA has acted on several petitions to extend the bans nationally. Other toxic additives that have not been banned are briefly reviewed to expose the extent of the problems. Most of these dangerous additives have been utilized in the American food system for many years. Many of us have been exposed to them since birth. Lastly, I make a significant announcement about the Food Labels Revealed podcast. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None Throughout both modern and ancient human history harmful ingredients, intentionally or unintentionally, have wound up in commercial foods. On the intentional side, that practice is called swindling or introducing improvements to make products better. Either way, the object is to make more money. On the unintentional side, the addition of poisons to foods is accidental. In this episode, a few examples of the former are examined taken from the early 20th century. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None Since the beginning of the FLR podcast in 2016, I have focused my attention on the ingredients of industrialized foods and also reported on the nutritional content of those foods. A great deal of time was spent on examining and critiquing ingredient and nutrition facts labels as regards health implications. Although that job could never be completed given the continual release by food companies of new products with novel food additives, I have chosen to take a break from that podcast content and pivot towards historical developments that have led to the current state of our food system. How did we get to such an unhealthy food system that most Americans rely upon today? This episode introduces the pivot which will officially begin in the following episode. McDonald's held back probably waiting to see how the market would respond. Although McD's was testing a product in Europe, they waited a long time to bring it to the USA. Now they're playing catchup (not ‘catsup') with their new product called the McPlant burger based on a Beyond Meat product. So, if you're a recent listener, who never tuned into the early days of the podcast, or a listener who would like to review some useful educational information and history about the processed food industry, then I hope you'll enjoy this episode. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: Apocarotenal When I begin to entertain the thought that fast food couldn't get much worse than it already is, some restaurant chain comes up with some new, ultraprocessed concoction that greatly exceeds the norm. A little over a year ago Wendy's introduced the “Big Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger Triple,” apparently part of the "Made to Crave" menu, i.e., sandwiches designed to satisfy food addictions. In this episode I explore the nutritional profile and the ingredient composition of this health-threatening sandwich. INGREDIENTS OF THE DAY: None The Nutrition Facts Labels on packaged foods have been with us for over 30 years. In 2018, the Food & Drug Administration issued a minor overhaul which has been slowly implemented by the food industry since that time. What changes occurred? What was lost? What was gained? What is still missing? This show is dedicated to re-exploring the Nutrition Facts Label. If you're a bit rusty on how to use it or never really got up to speed with it, this episode of FLR will give you an educational boost. Be prepared for some facts and figures! Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to Cathy Cole Green, whose family you might remember from a conversation we had about them just a few episodes ago with Cam Clarke. It's a three headed hydra of an episode as we jump back into, “The First Family of Song,” The King Family, along with Cathy's turn in The King Cousins and her dad, ace musician Buddy Cole. (And no, not the Scott Thompson character from The Kids in the Hall, but the real Buddy Cole.) Somehow we cover more ground than a long-lost Los Angeles Thomas Guide as we discuss everyone from Nat King Cole, George Carlin, Clara Bow, The Rolling Stones, John Davidson, Henri Mancini, Bob Mackie, Cher, Gil Evans, Richard Pryor, Rosemary Clooney, Ray Charles and more. Cathy weaves a great take of growing up in the San Fernando Valley with a spitfire of a mom who essentially founded The King Family on television, her world-class piano/organ player father who may or may not had the first stereo studio - in his home no less and Cathy's lunch in Toluca Lake with Richard Pryor. It's all about Aqua-Net, falsies, record albums, Summer replacement variety shows, long-lost LA restaurants, Tahitian concerts, Japanese wives songwriters, Mad Magazine parodies and more. Our next conversation will surely include the amazing experiences The King Cousins had at reunion shows from 2013 throughout 2017 launched at the Catalina Jazz Club in Los Angeles and beyond after a 30-year hiatus on the next Rarified Heir Podcast. But there was so much here to listen to, we decided to give you a mini episode if you will. So if you want more King Family news….just click on the bonus episode. We end on Jonathan Winters and pick up on LA restaurants. Everyone has a story.

00:02 Magia Estudio (S. Peter Gunn sparked a TV-Detective-Show-With-Jazz-Soundtrack craze, and Mike and Pat plunge into the murky depths of late fifties' jazz and existentialist philosophy to find out just what happened. Sometimes the naked city just isn't pretty. Warren Barker – 77 SUNSET STRIP; Henry Mancini – MORE MUSIC FROM PETER GUNN; Johnny Williams – CHECKMATE; Elmer Bernstein – STACCATO; George Duning – THE NAKED CITY.
We were calling it episode 58 the entire episode! We realize that we just passed 2 years of the start of the show! We drink some high octane beer and Deb does drugs! Are baby and pet birthday parties necessary? How does Deb sleep in a hotel? How does Jamie deal with tailgaters? All this and MORE! Music by Henri Mancini, Oozing Wound, Smoking Popes and 13-Monsters!
Tea for One/孤品兆赫-Notice-2 微信订阅号:【孤品兆赫】 微博(新浪/腾讯):【Tea for One/孤品兆赫】 荔枝FM:www.lizhi.fm (FM34184,孤品兆赫) 豆瓣小站:【Tea for One】 今天再发一个小公告。 Music inspired y the the novals of Murakami Haruki(春上村树)"。
