--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/saltobz/message

Israel, Jerusalem, Palestine, Will There Be Peace? Have you ever wondered why they can't all just get along in the Middle East? Have you ever wondered why Israel is such a lightning rod? Israel and Jerusalem have long been at the center of a complex conflict in the Middle East, involving both Jewish and Arab populations. The question of peace in the region has remained elusive for generations. The conflict has deep historical roots, with ongoing battles between groups like Hamas and Israel, resulting in a war-torn region. The issue of land ownership, whether it's Israel or Palestine, is at the heart of the conflict. Mr. Black and Bible teacher Don Noe explore this challenging topic from both a logical and spiritual perspective. Their conversation delves into the historical truths and the complexities of the situation, seeking to shed light on the conflict in this Holy land. While peace remains a distant goal, understanding the historical context is crucial for a more comprehensive grasp of the situation and, hopefully, a path towards peace for the sake of the children of this troubled region. Christian friends of Israel is a general term encompassing tens of millions of people or more. It is also a ministry that's based in Jerusalem, one of the pioneers from among the nations, placing themselves at the center of Jewish life, in the eternal capital of the State of Israel and the heart of the Jewish people. Sharon Sanders, along with her husband Ray, were called to establish Christian Friends of Israel Jerusalem, now a global organization.  Passing the torch, Tristan Hall recently assumed the position of International Executive Director of CFI, bringing his heart for Israel with a long term outlook to a new generation. They, and everyone they represent are True Christian Friends of Israel, and inspiring role models for us all.   www.Genesis123.co  FB - www.facebook.com/Genesis123Foundation  Twitter - @Genesis123F IG - Genesis_123_Foundation Find out how you can be part of Run for Zion and bless Israel with every step at www.RunforZion.com.

Israel's northern frontier with Lebanon has been mostly quiet for the last 16 years, with periods of tension although not of escalation. There is no symmetry between Jerusalem and Beirut, as one side has a government and military while the other is dominated by an organization, Hezbollah, whose very existence is predicated on continued “resistance.” But what is there to resist now, with Lebanon mired in domestic turmoil? Hezbollah has been spoiling for a fight over Lebanon's maritime boundaries for offshore natural gas reserves with Israel. The One Mighty King Who Was Humble

Luke 19:28-40 The Triumphal Entry (or "The One Mighty King who was Humble") Ross Tenneson / General Summary Exegetical Main Point: Jesus enters Jerusalem to begin his reign with all authority and all gentleness, making him worthy of all worship. Sticky: We must worship the one mighty king who was gentle. Introduction In our modern world, some things are easier than ever and some things ar harder than ever. It's easier to get food than ever, easier to get shelter than ever, easier to get education or access to technology than ever. On the other hand, it's harder to guard your attention and focus than ever. Even twenty-five years ago, there was not widespread cable television with any kind of channel for every kind of person. Fifteen years ago, there was not computers in our pockets programmed to consume as much of our attention as possible. They're so addictive we can spend hours on them a day (and many of us do). In light of this age of distraction and diversion, I want to ask this morning: what does our worship of Jesus look like on a day to day basis? Am I hungry for him? Am I seeking him? Am I praising him both regularly and spontaneously? The Scriptues are calling us into a whole life of worship (not just on Sunday mornings, but daily). And in some ways, in our modern world, this is harder than ever. So, let's go into our text and see what kind of heart the Scriptures are calling us to have towards Jesus. We have been on a journey with Jesus together for the last two years. In our text this morning: he arrives at his destination, the capitol city of Israel: Jerusalem. In Jerusalem, he is going to accomplish the most important deeds of his life— and of all history. These deeds are at the center of what he came to do and give meaning to everything else he did and taught. Revelation Luke 19:28 (ESV) 28 And when he had said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. The last several chapters of Luke captured a couple years of Jesus's life as he journeyed around the Judean countryside, teaching and performing miracles. In these remaining chapters of Luke, narrative time will slow way down as they focus almost exclusively on the last week of Jesus's life before his death and resurrection. The slowing down on his death and resurrection is saying to us: this is what matters most. For these events to unfold Jesus must first enter the city of Jerusalem. It sounds rather routine to enter and leave cities: we do it all the time. I can hop on 35W and be outside of Minneapolis in about twelve minutes. Yet, what we are witnessing here is not so ordinary. You see, Jesus has this title in the gospel of Luke that starts with a “C.” We tend to think it's his last name but it's not. Does anyone know what it is? Christ means “messiah.” The “messiah” is the king like David who is going to defeat Israel's enemies and rule from Jerusalem. Jesus's disciples are making these connections. Later in this passage they call him a “king.” In Israel, Jerusalem was the city where the king ruled from. Jesus is not just any old guy entering Jerusalem. He's doing so as the rightful ruler of Israel and Jerusalem is the seat of power where the king rules from. What we are seeing here is Jesus is taking steps closer to beginning his rule by taking steps toward Jersualem. There's a sense of tension as he approaches the city. Jerusalem and her people have not been loyal to him or his father for generations and generations. As we have travelled through this gospel, one thing we have seen are that the religious and political rulers of the people remain opposed to Jesus (even in this story the Pharisees oppose him as king). What typically happens to people who oppose kings who come into their city to rule? It doesn't take long for them to find their way into a dungeon or onto a nuse. Yet, what we will see in this story is this is not how Jesus acts at all, and it's going to reveal something precious about his character. So, let's keep reading and see what we learn about Jesus, Luke 19:29–35 ESV 29 When he drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount that is called Olivet, he sent two of the disciples, 30 saying, “Go into the village in front of you, where on entering you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever yet sat. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?' you shall say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.' ” 32 So those who were sent went away and found it just as he had told them. 33 And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 And they said, “The Lord has need of it.” 35 And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. First, Luke shows us a picture of Jesus's authority. He sends two of his disciples to villages on the outskirts of Jerusalem. He is just arriving at the mount of olives, a mountain that sits just East of Jerusalem and looks down upon it. He tells his disciples to go into the village ahead of him and where they will find a colt tied up (basically a young horse or a donkey). From other parts of the Bible, it's pretty clear that the animal Jesus rides is a donkey. He says “no one has ever yet sat” on it, which could point to the purity of his mission.[1] He also gives them authority to retrieve it from their owners: all they need to say is, “the Lord has need of it.” Then verse 32 says, “So those who were sent went away and found it just as he had told them.” Events like these show that our Jesus has all authority: no questions. What's distinct about a king is that others obey his words. He commands and others obey. Yet, this King's words go beyond those of mere earthly kings. He commands not only people to obey, but all of creation and different circumstances. He can command his disciples to fetch a colt from those who had never met him, and they will obey. More than that, they found things just as he told them. In all that we are about to witness in Jesus's life, we should not fail to see that he always has all things in control. Moreover, this interaction shows us all of our possessions are just on loan from him. When he asked for this donkey, he was only asking for what was already his own. Church, you should be prepared: at any time Jesus may tell you to do something or require something from you. You belong to him and so do all your possessions. So, his disciples go and find the colt Jesus had told them about. The owners of the cold ask, “why are you untying our property?” They reply, “the Lord has need of it.” And it works: they hear that and release their colt. While I wouldn't recommend you trying this, “the Lord has need of this,” we should have the same trust God can give us anything we need when we need it. What does Jesus mean by, “the Lord has need of it?” Was Jesus tired of walking, did he need a beast to carry him the final leg to Jerusalem? I doubt it. The necessity for the colt was not so much for any inability or lack Jesus had, but rather to communicate a message. What message is he communicating? First, it is common for kings to ride on beasts of burden and for their animals to carry them places. A young colt or donkey isn't the only animal Jesus could have chosen. Yet, Jesus's choice of a young colt is meant to communicate something incredible to us about his character: What is it showing us about his character? First off, when Jesus comes back soon, he won't be riding a donkey. Revelation 19:11 says, Revelation 19:11 ESV 11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. Jesus will be riding a great war horse. His war hourse symbolizes that he will come to bring righteous and final judgemeng against sin. Yet, that's not what our king chose to ride as he enters Jerusalem in his first coming. Rather than a war horse, he came on a young, gentle, peace-time animal. The prophet Zechariah captures what Jesus is signalling to his people by riding this colt. Zechariah 9:9 Zechariah 9:9 ESV 9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. When Jesus comes not on a mighty war horse, but on a donkey. Zachariah uses the word “humble” to describe him. That word also means “without property” or “poor.”[2] Jesus does not come to Jerusalem seeking wealth, prestige, or power. He does not come seeking to associate with powerful people. He comes as a poor man for poor men. The cloaks thrown over the donkey would have been how the poor would have made a saddle.[3] What does Jesus's humility change about the way he approaches the city? In humility, this king does not come to immediately assert his complete rule and judge his enemies. Instead, he comes to serve and help needy sinners. There's a character trait that goes along with deep humility: gentleness. Jesus pairs these ideas together in Matthew when he says he's “gentle and lowly in heart.” Pride leads us to be brutal and impatient with others, especially our adversaries. On the other hand, Jesus has a patience and gentleness with people that's unmatched. Kings with unquestioned authority fill history: yet few if any of them were ever gentle. Brutal, merciless rulers fill the pages of the Bible (as we studied the book of Daniel we saw that being proud and being violent went hand in hand). Yet, there was one king with all authority who somehow also possessed all gentleness: Jesus of Nazareth. He is the one mighty king who was humble! So, when he came into rebellious Jerusalem, the city that had spurned his and his Father's rule for centuries, he came not to tear it to the ground brick by brick and destroy its people. He would have been righteous in doing so, yet his character is humble and gentle. He came to the city of Jerusalem not to kill his enemies, but to die for them to make them friends instead. Friends, this is unspeakably good news for us. Like the people of Jerusalem, we have lived with opposition and defiance against the rule of God in our lives. We, like the people of Jerusalem, deserve the sentence of death. And yet, this morning, Jesus comes to us just as humbly. As I speak, he is inviting you to come to him as the one who shed his blood for you so that he could forgive all your sins and welcome you as a son or daughter. If you don't know him yet, he is welcoming you this morning to turn from your sin and trust him. Because Jesus is a gentle savior, we as sinners can flee to him rather than fleeing from him. Whether your just wanting to start following him this morning or have followed him for decades, you can flee to him rather than from him because of his humble heart. Here's what Dane Ortlund writes, “When we sin, we are encouraged to bring our mess to Jesus because he will know just how to receive us. He doesn't handle us roughly. He doesn't scowl or scold. He doesn't lash out, the way many of our parents did. All of this restraint on his part is not because of a diluted view of our sinfulness. He knows our sinfulness far more deeply than we do. Indeed, we are aware of just the tip of the iceberg of our depravity, even in the most searching moments of self-knowledge. His restraint simply flows from his tender heart for his people.”[4] Now church, we love to hear messages about Jesus's gentleness and humility. We love far less being humble like he was. Yet, the Lord's call on us to be gentle like Jesus is never more important times like ours. We live in a time of harshness and impatience. We tend to see those we disagree with not as friends with different perspectives, but foes. Yet, situations where we disagree with another or feel hurt by another test our gentleness like nothing else. I tend to be gentle with others until I believe I'm clearly in the right and they are clearly in the wrong and I have the “right” to overpower them. To my shame, I remember evangelizing once in a park and talking to some kids about Jesus. A man came up and threatened to call the police on me if I didn't stop. Instead of a humble approach to him like Jesus, I asked him if he had ever read the bill of rights. As I've reflected more on this incident in the years that followed, I've seen more and more how in the wrong I was to be harsh with this man. Even though legally I was “right,” my heart and my manner before the Lord was dead wrong! In any dispute, the person you are in conflict with is more important than winning. And even if we “win” an argument, yet do so in an un-christ-like way, we lost. And never is our gentleness more important church than when we disagree with each other. How is our church family any different than the world if we are harsh with each other or avoid one another and relational divisions separate us? The one mighty king who is gentle, the Lord Jesus shows us, this is the way. And now as we get to these last verses, these poor disciples who follow Jesus are going to show us what a proper response to the humility and authority of Jesus: Luke 19:36–38 ESV 36 And as he rode along, they spread their cloaks on the road. 37 As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, 38 saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” “they spread their cloaks on the road.” These disciples at this moment are showing the reverence to Jesus that he is worthy of. He is riding on a young colt, with nothing but a cloak for a saddle (this would be how the poor would ride their animals). Around him, are all kinds of poor folks and outcasts who had begun to follow him.[5] We are seeing here a clear picture of the Christian faith: a king with all authority who has humbled himself to be a poor traveler and the poor and outcasts surrounding him to give him worship. He's the king who is vastly above all, yet somehow all are welcome to come and adore him. We see in verse 37 that he's approaching Jerusalem, riding down the mount of Olives toward it, and expectation is building. The disciples at this time remember all the mighty things king Jesus had done, healing the sick, casting out demons, raising the dead. To what degree they understand that Jesus is going to become king by giving his life (rather than taking the lives of others) is unknown. Yet, their response is still right and appropriate for this moment: “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” The earthly presence of God's king turns their worship and praise upward to God in the heavens. Because of the gift of Jesus, they can't help but praise God. This is what experiencing Jesus intimately should produce: passionate worship for God. As we experience this human king who brings the presence and rule of God into our lives, and does it so patiently and lovingly, the only proper response is worship. “Peace in heaven” means that the kingdom of heaven is now at peace with God's people on Earth because of what Jesus will do.[6] Church, our main point this morning is, We must worship the one mighty king who was humble. As the next verses show, when we worship Jesus passionately as he deserves, it will make people uncomfortable and even offend them. The Pharisees won't acknowledge that Jesus is this worthy of worship, so they oppose those who do: Luke 19:39–40 (ESV) 39 And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” 40 He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.” First point here: never fail to worship Jesus passionately because you think you will make someone else uncomfortable. When we pray and sing, raise your voice loud and give him the worship he deserves. I think Jesus's answer to the Pharisees underlines this very point: he is worthy, deserving, and due all worship. To be the one king with all authority who is also humble puts Jesus in a category of his own and demands that we respond to him with worship. “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.” That means, Jesus will inevitably receive the worship he is due. You can silence these particular people here and now, but make no mistake, there will be passionate worshippers of Jesus. And we can see this in history, after two thousand years of persecution of the true church, Jesus is still receiving passionate worship from all kinds of people. The last thing we want is to be silent and not praise king Jesus and for mere stones to out worship us! Church, we should feel a deep burden to worship Jesus because we are aware of his worth. Sometimes we can love our spouse or our child so much it hurts in our guts. We should feel this way about Jesus, and I confess that many times I don't and need God to keep changing my heart! We should sense he is so worthy of worship that even the stones would have to praise him if we don't. Application I'm sensing a tension in my own lives and ours as a church family: While Jesus is completely worthy of all our worship, we struggle to passionately praise him daily as he deserves. What do I mean by passionately praising him daily? Worshiping Jesus looks like reading Jesus's words, praying to to him, singing to him, and thinking about him (he should be on our minds). You may be thinking that I'm talking about duties you should do just because they are the right thing. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about ways to spend time with the one your soul adores. If I were to say, “here are some sweet ways to connect with your spouse or your best friend.” You wouldn't think, “Great, another to-do list!” But, “that's exciting to me because I want to find ways to be closer to that person.” My plea is that we would daily take advantage of these different ways Jesus gave us to know him! This will mean finding out what idols or distractions are getting in the way. We can't both worship Jesus daily as he deserves and spend hours on apps, streaming, and media. We can't both worship Jesus and watch endless sports or movies. None of these things are wrong on their own, but when they consume large chunks of our schedule, they become our priority and choke out our greatest priority: worshipping Jesus. My plea this morning is that as you see a king who is so mighty yet so gentle and therefore so worthy of worship that we would give him more and more of our daily attention, more of our focus, and more of our hearts. Psalm 119:20 says, My soul is consumed with longing for your rules at all times. The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Ps 119:20. In a holy heart, there is a burning and a yearning for God on a daily basis. I'm not there yet, and I believe many of us are not there yet. Right now, Jesus is coming to us humbly through the preaching of the gospel and presence of his Holy Spirit. Let's respond to him with the hearty worship he is worthy of! In our reading today, the inevitable occurs. The southern kingdom, the core of God's agenda, the ones who have known Him the most and the most dynamically, they have taken God past the edge of His grace and patience. Jerusalem falls.  It cannot be healed as is. Not with these people and their deep commitment to stray from truth.  The Babylonians arrive to pillage. Then we jump about 50 years to a new era when the exiles are returning. 35 - We are in the middle of Josiah's reign.  His reforms were marvelous and right to the utmost.  His celebration of the Passover was, a "show stopper" (forgive the Broadway verbiage).  It was immense and complete.  Josiah was committed in this sense.  When God asked Josiah "for a buck" - he gave three.  The zeal is good, though it gives him problems at the end.  At any rate, Josiah does it big for God.  And remember that he pulls off this Passover celebration as a leader and he is 26 years old. Many 26 year olds don't even have their studio apartment furnished past "refugee status" at 26!  And here was Josiah celebrating (leading!) the Passover in the greatest way it had ever been commemorated in 500 years.  Josiah is a legendary.   And yet his dreadfully unfortunate death tells us something that was not a yielded matter in his heart.  He was king at 8. He was not eager to learn from mommy, memorize his times tables, he is King.  It's too much power too young. But what do you do about timing at this stage of the game? If he had not had a core attitude of "hey, I'm king!" that goes back as far as he could remember, perhaps he would have listened to the advice of one older who knew better. He had no fight with the Egyptians. He had latent commitments to Assyria that were not right to have, but he did. He thinks Assyria will honor him for attacking their attackers.  But it turns out to be a fool's move.  It's dumb as jumping off a dock  to save a stray cat that accidentally fell into a feeding frenzy of sharks.  You get killed and save nothing! 36 - The son of Josiah is made king and quickly removed and taken to Egypt by Pharaoh Neco. Jehoiakim is installed as king in Jerusalem by this same Pharaoh Neco. Being installed by a pagan, he has no impetus to do anything but act pagan - and he does.  His reign was dark and tumultuous. He deserved all the rough treatment he got from those who oppressed him. Jehoiachin, the son, was on the throne for just a number of weeks before being hauled to Babylon. Zedekiah assumed the final kingship as the last ruler of Jerusalem.  He was there 597 to 586 B.C.  He was duplicitous; honest with no one.  He always had secondary deals going, like a politician, and when Babylon finally stormed in at the end, they were doubly determined to make Zedekiah suffer.  They did.  We didn't cover the brutal details of this last 23 years in Jerusalem. That is in II Kings'  final chapters.  You can review that if you wish.  It's gory stuff.  Ungodliness always leads to such horror. Jeremiah 26 &36 contains some insight into how wretched these final kings were. Jump forward from 586 B.C. to 538 B.C. and King Cyrus of Persia is releasing tens of thousands of Jewish souls to return to Jerusalem.  Since Babylon destroyed Jerusalem, they too have been overthrown. Persia is now the grand force in the Middle and Near East.  And Cyrus, fond of the Jewish story, has a heart to allow them to return to Israel. Ezra 1 -  The process of returning to Israel/Jerusalem begins.  Remember, God spurred this to happen and Jeremiah had prophesied this would happen.  The planning, packing, taking inventory, returning of valuables to Hebrews for the trip home, all this is well underway. 2 - Here is the "packing list" of all the leaders and groups and their numbers heading back to Israel. They are the families, priests, Levites, gatekeepers, Temple servants, and more.  There are nearly 50,000 people commencing upon a 900 mile walk.  What a sight!  Imagine running a convenience store along the way back!

Officially, there are only five great powers in the post-World War Two world - the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, who are also declared nuclear weapon states. But in reality, there are other powers with a legitimate claim or aspirations to greatness, at least by some measures, such as Germany, Japan and India. There are no longer blocks headed by two Superpowers. Rather, there is a mix of confrontation, cooperation and mostly competition, as evident by the bitterness shown by France following the American-British nuclear propulsion deal for Australian submarines. Hey everyone and welcome back to Deeper Roots. Unless you've been averting your eyes from the news, you will see that recently there has been a lot of fighting happening in and around Israel, and while it is a situation we need to be praying for, this isn't an isolated event. For as long as the Jewish, Muslim, and Christian faiths have existed, there has been fighting for the capital of modern day Israel: Jerusalem. And the Bible backs this up, with prophecy of an Israel without an ally, being attacked from all sides. And that is where the question of the week lies. Will there be a second chance for salvation after the rapture happens? Through the way our church interprets the prophecy, we know that the rapture marks the beginning of the tribulation, and that during the tribulation, there will be this “veil of deception”, so in this podcast, we go over what that could mean for people in the tribulation, as well as other questions that may come up. This study of the tribulation is probably one of my favorite things to learn more about, and every time I learn something, it makes me interested to learn even more. I hope its the same way for you!

The Seven Streams Method

Matthew 27-28 Today we are in the Christ Stream and we will finish the book of Matthew. We will cover our first reading of the crucifixion and resurrection as we read from the World English Bible this week. 7streamsmethod.com | #7Streasm | @7StreamsMethod | @serenatravis Commentary by Dr. Drake Travis Today we read of what the world has been waiting thousands of years for.  History builds to this event.  The remainder of history reflects back on this event and draws inspiration to finish our call of Destiny. 27  - is the trial, crucifixion, and burial.  We are going to look at some of the distinctions of the other gospels compared to Matthew this time through.  If you wish to reference some of this, they are Mk 15, Lk 23, Jn. 18 Matthew says the chief priests and elders took counsel.  They had already met with Annas and Caiaphas and been convinced that it was better for one man to die instead of the whole nation...wrong intentions but they did supply the right answer.  They want him dead but they want Pilate to drop the gavel. Only Matthew gives detail of Judas here. Keep in mind that Matthew was a government worker prior to being a disciple -and the only one of the 12 to be so. Legal matters are more of an issue to him than to Mark, Luke and John.  All the disciples were from Galilee in the north except one; Judas.  Interesting that Matthew is possibly making an insinuation here about where "faithful ones" come from and vice versa.  When Matthew tells of him before the governor, John is describing this scene in much greater detail as being before Pilate, the discourse, the back and forth, and the frustration of all involved. From here Matthew tells the most in describing Barabbas, while John merely mentions him. Only Luke describes the scene of him in front of Herod. Matthew tells of the crown of thorns and the mocking as does Mk and John.  Lk doesn't have that part.  At this point only John tells of Pilate being practically desperate to release Jesus as he addresses the crowd and then Jesus, back and forth. Finally Pilate delivers Jesus to them and washes his hands [only in Matthew] to symbolize that the guilt of killing Jesus is not on him. Only Matthew and Mk reference Jesus being scourged/whipped, but all four gospels say that Pilate then handed him over to be crucified.  Luke gives the most dialogue from when Jesus is going from Pilate to Golgotha (the Hebrew word for "skull").  "Calvary" comes from a Latin derivative; a translation that plays out later. Jesus is offered wine mixed with gall -Mark calls the gall--> myrrh.  And then He is crucified The sign "This is Jesus, King of the Jews" is placed above him.  Mk /Lk only reference "... King of the Jews".  Matthew describes the whole sign for his gospel is written specifically to tell Jesus story to the Jews living in Israel/Jerusalem. [Mark writes to Jews everywhere, Luke write to Greeks, John writes to the whole world (Jn.3:16, "God so loved ...the what?"  John [alone] describes the bantering over Jesus' outfit. Mt, Mk, Lk all tell of Jesus being scoffed at; while Matthew tells the most about the derision. The thieves beside Jesus are merely mentioned by Mt./Mk.  Luke is the one who fully describes the dialogue between the two thieves and their contrasting attitudes. And Luke is the only one who describes the beautiful dialogue between Jesus and the penitent thief.  "Today, you will be with me in Paradise" is one of the most beautiful things ever spoken.  It is also a marvelous testament to "being saved by grace". The death of Jesus is told by all four who focus and highlight various things distinctively.  Matthew gives the greatest description of the natural phenomenon: curtain tearing, earthquake, ground splitting, tombs breaking open, and multiple resurrections!  Only John tells of Jesus' side being pierced. Matthew gives the least detail about Jesus' burial, but he is the only one to tell of the issue of guards at the tomb and more guards being added. 28 - Looking only through Matthew for the finale~ here, He tells of the women going to the tomb, the earthquake (more nature detail), and the angels informing them of Jesus Resurrection.  Now they must also go tell the others. Then Jesus appears to them! and also tells them to tell the disciples that He's alive and they must go to Galilee to meet Him there.  Hey, what better assignment to give to a group of ladies? What do they love better than spreading good news with no other agenda but to be spreading good news.  God knows how to spread the word around, eh?! Meanwhile there's a scheme afloat back among the chief priests to spread false rumors about the Resurrection being faked.  -- good luck with that. Jesus had other appearances, but Matthew focuses on the Galilee scene next to highlight the Great Commission mainly.  He tells them to take this gospel to the whole world and to obey all His commands and assures them that He will be with them always until the End of the Age.   These words have motivated more action than any other sentence ever spoken.  Hundreds of thousands come to Christ daily even today because of this word from Jesus.  It triggers more missions and publishing and evangelism and salvations and related activity of ministry than any other single thing ever ... ONE SENTENCE.  Matthew is so focused on making this the finale~ of his book that he ends with it.  'doesn't even mention Jesus going up and ascending back to God.  Good Heavens.  We need to obey this verse here. Lord, you went through it all so we would have all of you and take all of you to all of the world.  Thank you for being with us still and that you always will.  Amen

The Greatest Prophecy Ever Given – Part Three

THE GREATEST PROPHECY EVER GIVEN - PART THREE Daniel 9:24-27 has been called "The Greatest Prophecy Ever Given." It is certainly one of the greatest! It contains an overview of God's special prophetic dealings with Israel from the time of the command to rebuild Jerusalem (see Neh. 2:1-8) until the setting up of the Messianic kingdom. This prophecy is commonly called "The Seventy Weeks of Daniel". A "week" is a unit of seven. Daniel 9 speaks in terms of a week being a unit of SEVEN years. Seventy weeks (units of 7 years) tallies out to a total of 490 years. Outline of the Seventy Weeks of Daniel – Dan. 9:24-27 v. 24 - A Summary Overview of the 70 Weeks v. 25 - 69 Weeks (483 years) culminating in the Triumphal Entry [Past - Has been fulfilled] v. 26 – The GAP period [Present - Being fulfilled] v. 27 – 70th Week (7-year Tribulation Period) [Future - Will be fulfilled] We live at the time of the END! How close precisely we can't say, but Paul in 1 Cor. 10:11 said that we are those “upon whom the ends of the ages have come.” But someone says, “that has been true for 2000 years.” I would agree, but of special note is that Israel is now back in the land reconstituted as a nation. That is a very significant development. In order for “last days” prophecy to be fulfilled Israel once again has to be back in the land. Much of last days prophecy relates to Israel as a nation and to Jerusalem as a city. In order for the 70th week of Daniel to be fulfilled, Israel physically has to be in the land. They are there. In order for Antichrist to sign a 7-year covenant with Israel they have to be in the land. They are there. In order for this development to happen Israel has to be desperate for peace. They are there. Following an unspecified amount of time in the GAP period, characterized by Israel experiencing ongoing war and desolations, comes the FINAL 70th week of God's special prophetic dealings with Israel/Jerusalem. This final 7-year period of time will begin with Antichrist signing a 7-year covenant with Israel as dealt with in Daniel 9:27. Daniel 9:27 (NKJV) 27 Then he [Antichrist] shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate.” In my view the stage is right now being set for the 70th week of Daniel. We don’t know when that will happen, but Israel being back in the land is a major stage setting reality. For this reason Israel being back in the land as a nation is called “The Last Days Super Sign”. Antichrist will sign a 7-year covenant with many for one week. "Many" evidently refers to the MAJORITY of the Jews who will enter into this covenant with him. In this covenant Antichrist will evidently guarantee peace for Israel with the liberty to once again build and worship in their temple on the temple mount. This will undoubtedly be heralded as the greatest “peace deal” of all time. Little will Israel realize that this reality is a “covenant with death” as it is called in Isa. 28:15-18 (cf. Zech. 11:15-17). Note the word “covenant” is a very strong word emphasizing a BINDING agreement. It is the very same word God used when He made a covenant with Abram in Gen. 15:18. But then in the middle of the week (that is 3 and ½ years in) Antichrist pulls one of the greatest “double-crosses” of all time as he breaks this STRONG covenant by going into the rebuilt Jewish temple and declaring himself to be God (cf. Dan. 7:25; Rev. 13:5-8). 2 Thessalonians 2:4 (NKJV) 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. When Daniel 9:27 says, “on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate”, note that this is the phrase Jesus referenced as “the abomination of desolation” spoken of by Daniel in Matt. 24:15. The word “wing” is thought to refer to the high point of abomination or perhaps to the idea of “overspreading” in the sense that this one will cover all he does with abomination. Antichrist will carry on until the consummation which is determined is poured out on him, which will be his destruction personally carried out by Jesus at the Second Coming (cf. Dan. 7:11, 2 Thess. 2:8; Rev. 19:20). Note that three times in this text in Dan. 9:24-27 the word “determined” is found, as seen in verses 24, 26, and 27. None of this is left to “chance”. It is all according to the determined PLAN of God. Just as the first 69 weeks were literally fulfilled to the letter culminating in Jesus being presented as the KING of Israel on Palm Sunday (cf. Zech. 9:9; Lk. 19:28-44); and just as that which relates to the GAP PERIOD involving Christ's death and the destruction of the temple has literally been fulfilled; just as ongoing war and desolations related to the GAP PERIOD is literally being fulfilled; so also, will all that which pertains to the 70th week literally be fulfilled, just as it is determined. They keep saying that we are living in “uncertain times”. They couldn’t be MORE wrong. The times are CERTAIN, and they have a determined outcome. What God has said regarding the Times of the Gentiles has been and is being fulfilled to the letter. What Christ has said regarding the building of His Church is being fulfilled in this the Gap Period. What God has said regarding His special 490-year dealings with Israel has been and will yet be fulfilled to the letter. One final climactic 7-year period (the 70th week) remains to be fulfilled. What God has determined will have a fulfillment! Psalm 33:10–11 (NKJV) 10 The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. 11 The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations. The book of Daniel writes in BOLD LARGE PRINT, “GOD IS SOVEREIGN OVER THE TIMES!” He is sovereign over ALL times. Daniel 9:24-27 stands out as a monumental prophetic testament to the reality that God is sovereignly in control of history thus making it ONE OF GREATEST PROPHECIES EVER GIVEN!

THE GREATEST PROPHECY EVER GIVEN - PART TWO Daniel 9:24-27 deals with God's special prophetic dealings with Israel/Jerusalem from the command to rebuild Jerusalem to the setting up of the kingdom. It predicts 70 units of 7 years (490 years) of these special dealings which will bring about the completion of six things as seen in Dan. 9:24. With absolute precision Dan. 9:25 prophecies that from the time of the commandment to rebuild Jerusalem "until Messiah the Prince" would be a consecutive period of exactly 69 weeks (483 years). To the very DAY, after 483 years, Jesus the Messiah was presented to Israel as her KING as prophesied in Zechariah 9:9 and as noted by Jesus in Luke 19:42-44. Only God could do this! And the precision fulfillment continued... Daniel 9:26 (NKJV) 26 “And AFTER the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined. (emphasis mine) Daniel 9:26 presents a GAP or an INTERLUDE between the past fulfillment of the 69 weeks and the future fulfillment of the final 70th week. Note the absolute precision here. “AFTER” the 7 plus 62 weeks – that is AFTER the 69 weeks Messiah would be cut off – which is to say He would die. He would die AFTER the fulfillment of the 69 weeks but BEFORE the beginning of the 70th week. And note the language: “but not for Himself”. Jesus died for OTHERS! He died for us! He died for our sins (see Isaiah 53). But my point here is that in precise fulfillment of prophecy He died AFTER the fulfillment of the 69 weeks which were completed exactly at the time of His triumphal entry on Palm Sunday. On Palm Sunday Jesus was presented to Israel as Messiah the Prince completing the 69 weeks and then 5 days later, He was crucified. "AFTER" was only 5 days AFTER the fulfillment of the 69th week. But it had to happen AFTER. That is precision fulfillment. AFTER the completion of the 69th week and BEFORE the start of the 70th week would be a GAP PERIOD of an unspecified amount of time. 69 Weeks--------Gap Period--------------70th Week In this interim Gap Period 3 things would take place in relation to Israel as spelled out in Daniel 9:26. 1. Messiah would be cut off. 2. Jerusalem and the temple would be destroyed. 3. To the end of the Gap Period would be war and desolations. Right now Israel is living in the GAP PERIOD between the fulfillment of the 69 weeks and in anticipation of the 70th week. Israel is living in "the in between time". The prophetic clock of the Seventy Weeks of Daniel for now has paused. It is on hold. In this gap period Messiah was crucified, Jerusalem and the Temple was destroyed in 70 A.D., and desolation and wars have defined the ongoing experience of Israel. This reality of desolation and war continues on to this very day. Israel has been in a perpetual state of war since the very day she once again became a nation in 1948. At each point we see the precise exact fulfillment of prophecy. But why the gap? Why has God put His special program with Israel on hold? What is the hold all about? Well, Daniel didn’t know. It wasn’t revealed to him. But we know because of further NT revelation. What is the gap period all about? It’s about the CHURCH AGE! In the gap period God is doing something different – He is building a forever Church family that consists of both Jew and Gentile, but is predominantly Gentile (cf. Rom. 11:25). In this GAP period Israel as a nation is put on hold and God’s blessing for now is being poured out upon the Church which is largely Gentile in terms of background makeup. But note the emphasis here in Daniel is totally on Israel. Daniel does not have the Church in view. For Israel the GAP period involves a period of ongoing desolations and war. For 1800 years the land lay desolate. In the latter days Israel would once again be brought back to the land in blindness (cf. Ezek. 38:8; Rom. 11:25). This is where she is at today. The phrase, “till the end of the war desolations are determined”, more literally reads “till the end shall be war; desolations are determined.” This my friend is exactly what Israel has experienced through the years. Israel is officially at war with many surrounding nations and is constantly under the threat of war. Rocket fire into Israel continues to the present! This will continue to the end of the GAP period. As a footnote to verse 26, note that it is “the people of the prince who is to come” that would destroy the city and the temple sanctuary. The prince to come here is speaking of the Antichrist. It would be his people that would destroy Jerusalem and the Temple in 70 A.D. And that was the Romans. For this reason, we believe the Antichrist comes out of the Revived Roman Empire. He comes from the Gentile people of the Romans. But what will finally bring this LONG GAP period of ongoing war desolations to an end? We find the answer to that question in verse 27. Daniel 9:27 (NKJV) 27 Then he [Antichrist] shall confirm a covenant with many for one week...”. Israel is weary of this ongoing continual state of war and being threatened continually. The greatest desire for Israel is to live in peace and security. But that has been elusive. Right now Israel is scrambling in looking for reliable allies that will secure their "peace" interests as a nation. At some point “the man with the 7-year plan” (the Antichrist) will emerge out of Europe (that is out of the Revived Roman Empire) and he will enter into a strong covenant with Israel. It will be a 7-year covenant which comprises the exact time of the 70th week of Daniel. This covenant will break the cycle of constant recurring war desolations that have been experienced by Israel in the Gap Period. Finally, they will have a STRONG negotiated peace settlement with a strong-man that will insure it. This 7-year covenant with Antichrist is what begins the final and 70th week of Daniel. Note again that Daniel does not deal with the Church at all in the Gap Period. He is dealing strictly with Israel and what Israel is to experience. This is true of the 69 weeks, of the gap period, and also of the 70th week. Again, this strictly has Israel in view. Daniel did not see the Church or truth that relates directly to the Church at all. As I said earlier, we know from further revelation in the NT that the gap period essentially relates to the Church Age, and in my view the Rapture of the Church ends the Church Age which then gives way to the 70th week of Daniel and God’s resumption and completion of His program with Israel. Just as sure as the past aspects of the 70th week of Daniel prophecies have literally been fulfilled to the letter, so also will the remaining aspects yet be fulfilled. The near partial fulfillments are a guarantee that the distant aspects will yet also be fulfilled. The 69 weeks were fulfilled to the LETTER. The GAP prophecies have been and are being fulfilled to the LETTER. And likewise the specific prophecies about the future 70th week will also be fulfilled to the LETTER. Absolute precision defines it through and through! No wonder Daniel 9:24-27 has been called THE GREATEST PROPHECY EVER GIVEN!

The New Testament reveals to us the role that the Messiah has to gather and unite the exiles of Israel. In order to understand end of days prophecies you need to understand who you are. The prophecies about the ingathering of the exiles are directed to the house of Jacob. The Day of the LORD is the time known as “Jacob’s trouble” and it begins in the darkness part of the day. The God of Israel has orchestrated these events so that He will redeem his people, end the exile and ingather His remmant people and lead them on a journey home to Israel. The God of Israel will reveal Himself to his people in the sight of all the nations: When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations; Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them anymore there. Ezekiel 39: 27-28 Zion is: *the people of the God of Israel *living in the land of Israel *Jerusalem is Zion, and Zion is Jerusalem *The Torah will go forth from Zion *is associated with the end of the exile of Jacob *a term referring to the Messianic era *Yeshua redeeming and dwelling with his people For more Eddie Chumney teachings and beautiful worship music, visit us at our internet streaming radio station www.hebrootsradio.com. Devora Mason is regular folk. Not that her way is mundane or even average, quite the opposite. Devora is colorful and fancy. She's one of 7.7 billion people in this world who travel through life  working arduously on growth, try to raise their children to be upstanding citizens and who struggle to make a decent living so she can afford to make thing right for all those she support. That's Devora...with a healthy smidgeon of 'unique'.  Episode 33 is a schmooze with my niece, Devora Mason who is a beautiful and vivacious personality with a beaming smile- a Rosensweig smile.  It became clear to me, after a few years of not really hanging out with her, that Devora has evolved into a wise forty-something woman with cogent thoughts and opinions. 3:12 She has adopted our family's way, and that is to smile and say hello to people, strangers, she meets along the road, something anathema to Israeli culture. So that's Devora! Devora lives in Efrat, a town near Jerusalem. Terrorist attacks are perpetrated regularly along the road outside of Efrat where her children travel to get to school and work. My niece has five children, four boys and a girl - the boys are religious, her daughter is not. 1:17:41 Devora is a single Mom. You can imagine the worry. 1:19:07 Devora makes a prayer before making a big decision for her children.  Listen to the interview at 51:44 where Devora talks about her life in the context of raising her kids, and how she just knows pain and suffering will come her way, so she does everything to minimize it. That is very Israeli. Not a single Israeli ducks the pain of living in the Middle East and being surrounded by enemies. Devora's life is dynamic. 7:42 Shes speaks extensively at the beginning of the show about her love for her parents, Jack and Etti (my sister), and how special they are, allowing their children to grow up according to their nature. At the 10:43 mark Devora schmoozes about her sister who is a Breslower Chasid - a person who adheres to the very strict and conservative lifestyle of previous generations. When her sister and children visit, the I-pads goes away and the TV stay off. No movies. And Devora loves her to bits as she loves all her five siblings. Devora Mason, my guest on episode 33, is friends with Jews of all denominations, Christians, Muslims and people of all backgrounds. She seems to thrive off the diversity in her life. When I asked her if she's religious (all our family grew up that way), she responded, "I'm spiritual", and shares with me her trek to 55:57 become a yoga instructor.  Devora adores Israel. Listen to the 24:24 mark of the show when she describes her work running an innovation centre inside the Tower of David Museum. Every day she'd go to work, go to her office in one one of the towers that King Herod built. She'd go up to the balcony and have a 360 degree view of Jerusalem.  Devora has difficulties with Israel. She has no expectations of making a lot of money as that simply won't happen. She says there is a lot of hardship in Israel/Jerusalem 27:43, and she's frustrated with the government 42:34 and says the people are really directing the country and the government is out of step. "I feel the country is the people today, not because of the leaders but inspite of them."  1:22:16 "My focus in life is to reach bliss."  This is Devora Mason, a multi-faceted woman, a citizen of our very complex and simple world, working hard to understand herself, to raise her children, frequently challenged by the many pitfalls of life. Beautifully and appropriately, my Devora completes the schmooze at 1:33:11 singing the classic Yiddish song, "Ofyn Pripetchick', followed by 'The Picnic Song', this in memory of her Boobie (grandmother), and in honor of the life she leads. Listening to the show, and writing this blurb I feel so lucky Devora is my niece. She truly is a gem of a human being, someone to emulate and one of us regular folk. Hatradio! The show that schmoozes.
