Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes.Reports are here to give us hope that a Scarlet Witch solo movie is in the works, though this is not confirmed by Marvel Studios or Kevin Feige. The news from Production Weekly comes on the heels of a Dublin radio interview given by Wanda Maximoff actress Elizabeth Olsen where she indicated her love for the character and her willingness to return to the role if “there's a way to use her well.”  Television's royalty was out on Sunday, September 15, when the 76th Emmys took place. Hosted by father/son comedy duo Eugene and Dan Levy, the award show mostly followed expectations with a surprise win from Jean Smart's show Hacks taking home Best Comedy Series and Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Smart herself. Otherwise, Shogun and The Bear cleaned up, with the former setting historic records including Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada becoming the first Japanese actors to EVER win Emmys. The Bear did well for itself as usual, with its 11 awards setting a new record for the most wins for a single season of comedy.  The final trailer for Venom: The Last Dance was released by Sony. The trailer showcases Eddie Brock and his symbiote sidekick facing down Venom's homeworld, with comics enemy Knull at the forefront as the antagonist. Venom: The Last Dance is the final movie in the trilogy, written by Kelly Marcel who is also taking a turn in the director's chair for this entry. Happy Gilmore stars, Christopher McDonald and Julie Bowen, have joined Adam Sandler to reprise their roles for Netflix's Happy Gilmore 2, which is now officially in production. Paramount has released the first trailer for the Dexter prequel, Dexter: Original Sin, and has set a premiere date of December 13 for the series. Netflix has released a new trailer for adult animated series Twilight of the Gods from Zack Snyder, which is based on Norse Mythology. The series debuts on the streamer on September 19. Last week, the first trailer was released for Gary Dauberman's upcoming Stephen King adaptation, Salem's Lot. The film will begin streaming on Max on October 3. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice stayed atop the box office this weekend, pulling in about $50 million dollars to bring its worldwide total earnings to $263.4 million dollars in its second weekend. Speak No Evil hit second place in its opening weekend, pulling in $20.8 million dollars globally on a $15 million dollar budget. Lionsgate's The Killer's Game starring Dave Bautista took in a disastrous $2.6 million dollars. Netflix has announced that Emily in Paris has been renewed for a fifth season. Deadline has revealed that Oscar-winning filmmaker James Cameron has purchased the rights to Charles Pellegrino‘s forthcoming book Ghosts of Hiroshima. Cameron has committed to use that, and the 2015 Pellegrino book Last Train From Hiroshima, as the basis for a film he will shoot in between Avatar productions. It will mark Cameron's first non-Avatar film since 1997's Oscar-winning Titanic. AppleTV+ has canceled Time Bandits, an adaptation of a 1981 feature film by Terry Gilliam, after a single season. The news comes less than four weeks after Time Bandits completed its 10-episode first season on August 21. The long rumored The Sims film adaptation has finally found a home and director. Amazon MGM Studios has announced that development has begun on a film adaptation of the long-running Electronic Arts gaming series. Kate Herron, known for directing the Disney+ series Loki, will helm the feature from a script that she is co-writing with Briony Redman. Margot Robbie's production company Lucky Chap will produce. John Cena has signed on to star in Matchbox, a live-action take on the classic Mattel car toyline. Apple will distribute the feature from Skydance and Mattel Films. Sam Hargrave, the director behind the Extraction movies will direct.

Orange is the new Black is an American comedy-drama on Netflix which was released in 2013.The seven-season-long show is based on Piper Kerman's memoir of the same name. The series showcases the hardships of life in prison and spotlights, among other things, taboos associated with being convicted, illegal immigration, racism and harassment. Here are a few interesting facts about this great show that you probably didn't know about.1. The title sequence consists of close-ups of the faces of real former inmates, including a quick shot of Piper Kerman. You can identify Kerman from her blue eyes. 2. A hacker leaked a few of Season 5 episodes even before its official release. Though the hacker demanded a ransom from Netflix with a threat to leak all the episodes of that season, Netflix did not respond, due to which 10 out of 13 episodes got leaked.3. Taylor Schilling, who plays Piper Kerman, injured herself during the filming of an intimate scene. While taking her shirt off, the prison name tag caught on the side of her mouth, giving her a small cut. The shoot was halted for an hour to make sure the injury wasn't severe.4. This is the only show on TV to receive Emmy nominations for the Best Comedy Series in 2014 and the Best Drama Series in 2015. This was because of a change in the Emmy Awards rule stating that all shows running longer than 30 minutes per episode must be classified as dramas. If you haven't watched this series yet, then catch it streaming exclusively on NetflixWell that's some lesser-known trivia about the hit series “Orange is the new Black”, I shall be back again tomorrow with a brand new episode until then it's your host Nikhil outta here.

Support us on Patreon! HBO's Veep, starring Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, is likely the most successful American political satire in television history. Yet, in seven seasons, the show never mentions the party labels "Democrat" or "Republican," instead using terms like "the enemy camp" or "my extremist colleague from across the aisle." In "Hollywood Presidents for a Partisan Nation (Part Three)," The Purple Principle speaks with Veep showrunner and head writer David Mandel, about this convention and the many challenges to creating a popular political satire at a time when real-world norms are shattered week after week.  Mandel is a blue ribbon comedy A-lister, having written for SNL, Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and the occasional Simpsons episode prior to the Veep showrunner role. He led the show for its final three seasons, winning an Emmy for Best Comedy Series in two of those three years. As a result, it was no easy decision to end Veep with Season 7. Veep protagonist, Selina Meyer, was "a horrible person...who was also a politician," Mandel explains, looking back over this remarkable run. "That doesn't mean that the writers… were endorsing the offensive things she was saying."  Fortunately, a large, still loyal audience appreciates the satirical brilliance of Veep—sharp, topical writing and pitch-perfect performances from a true ensemble cast. Tune into "Hollywood Presidents for a Partisan Nation (Part Three)" for more on the show's enduring appeal across the political divide from Hollywood comedy writer extraordinaire, David Mandel. Vali Chandrasekaran is a producer and comedy writer living in Los Angeles. His first work for NBC was writing television scripts for My Name is Earl.  Two other programs he wrote for were 30 Rock and Modern Family, both Emmy nominated multiple times for Best Comedy Series. I discuss with Vali how he landed his first television work and how breaking into screen writing can be very competitive. Vali spent some time in front of the camera on an episode of the The Office.  We go behind the scenes to learn how he landed the role and what the experience was like working with cast. He has written his own comic, Genius Animals, which is available for free and in it’s entirety online at genuisanimals.net Genius Animals is a comedic mystery about that situation where you think your relationship is going well, then one day your significant other disappears. When you try to figure out what happened, you can’t tell if you have been ghosted or have to save all of humanity.   Why did Vali decide to go from Hollywood scriptwriter to comic book writer?    What is his connect to the web comic’s artist Jun-Pierre Shiozawa?   What is the difference between writing for 30Rock characters and comics?    How is making a graphic novel both exactly like and very different from running a TV show?   All this plus a discussion on television shows screened before a live studio audience and the use of laugh tracks in a comedy series.   Creator Talks Theme Song: "Jazz Relax" by LoopsLab    Please rate and review Creator Talks on Apple Podcasts   Link to the web comics Genius Animals

Netflix Audience Numbers Netflix audience numbers have been a mystery for some time now. World wide Netflix has 130 million subscribers but what and how much they are watching have never been disclosed by the streaming service. In a letter to shareholders Netflix has revealed some of its audience numbers and plans for 2019. We present and discuss this letter on today's show. In its first 4 weeks on Netflix, we estimate that Bird Box from director Susanne Bier will be enjoyed by over 80 million member households, and we are seeing high repeat viewing. In combination with our other movie hits such as: Dumplin' from director Anne Fletcher, Chris Columbus-produced The Christmas Chronicles, Alfonso Cuarón's critically acclaimed ROMA, Paul Greengrass' 22 July, Tamara Jenkins' Private Life and the Coen brothers' The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, we are beginning to have our original movie offering mirror the success of our series offering for consumer enjoyment. The global reach of our audience and the quality of the experience producing for Netflix continues to attract the world's top directors. We are expanding the film market: while our films drew bigger and bigger audiences in Q4, the North American box office also set records. Today, five weeks after its Netflix debut, ROMA is still being exhibited in theaters and has played on over 900 unique screens around the world, including some special 70mm format presentations. People love films...at home and in theaters. Around the world, our titles are not only pleasing consumers, but they are transforming the careers of our talent. Elite, our Spanish original, has been a huge success with over 20 million member households around the world enjoying the series in its first four weeks on service. In addition to being highly watched, social engagement has been phenomenal and the cast's popularity on social media skyrocketed, continuing to demonstrate our ability to be a launching pad for talent. We were very pleased with our launch of ”You” three weeks ago; we estimate it will be watched by over 40 million member households in its first 4 weeks on Netflix. This binge-worthy show started as a Lifetime linear series in the US, but is now a full Netflix global original. A week ago, we launched Sex Education from the UK and it is also tracking to be a huge hit (estimated over 40 million households watching the title within the first 4 weeks).  Netflix films and TV shows picked up five 2019 Golden Globe wins, including Best Comedy Series for The Kominsky Method and Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Michael Douglas and Best Actor in a Drama Series for Richard Madden from Bodyguard. Alfonso Cuarón won the Golden Globe for Best Feature Director and Best Foreign Language Feature for ROMA.  As a result of our success with original content, we're becoming less focused on 2nd run programming. For example, we launched our originals strategy for the unscripted genre only two years ago. Today, Netflix originals, like Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, account for a majority of total unscripted view share on Netflix, while viewing of all unscripted programming has increased meaningfully during that time. We are ready to pay top-of-market prices for second run content when the studios, networks and producers are willing to sell, but we are also prepared to keep our members ecstatic with our incredible original content if others choose to retain their content for their own services. Looking forward in 2019, we will be launching many new highly-anticipated titles including The Umbrella Academy (February 15th); Triple Frontier from J.C. Chandor (March); The Irishman from Martin Scorsese; 6 Underground from Michael Bay; and The Politician from Ryan Murphy; as well as returning seasons of The Crown led by a new cast including Olivia Colman, Ben Daniels, and Helena Bonham Carter; 13 Reasons Why, La Casa de Papel, Elite, and, of course, Season 3 of the epic Stranger Things, coming to members all around the world on July 4th. In the US, we earn around 10% of television screen time2 and less than that of mobile screen time. In other countries, we earn a lower percentage of screen time due to lower penetration of our service. We earn consumer screen time, both mobile and television, away from a very broad set of competitors. We compete with (and lose to) Fortnite more than HBO. When YouTube went down globally for a few minutes in October, our viewing and signups spiked for that time. Hulu is small compared to YouTube for viewing time, and they are successful in the US, but non-existent in Canada, which creates a comparison point: our penetration in the two countries is pretty similar. There are thousands of competitors in this highly-fragmented market vying to entertain consumers and low barriers to entry for those with great experiences. Our growth is based on how good our experience is, compared to all the other screen time experiences from which consumers choose. Our focus is not on Disney+, Amazon or others, but on how we can improve our experience for our members.

There are more hit-men on TV than the real world.’ But very quickly we came up with the idea of him wanting to be an actor. A hit man has to be anonymous, live in the shadows and cut off from their emotions. An actor has to live in the light, access their emotions and divulge their inner truth. It started to become really interesting. A guy caught between two worlds. In order to do one thing well; he has to put himself at risk in the other world.” Follow Gold Derby on Facebook and Twitter.

"The good news for every studio and every network is that 'Veep' is not back," announces Marcus James Dixon at the start of our discussion about Best Comedy Series at the 2018 Emmys. "Veep" is the reigning three-time winner of the top comedy prize, but it's taking the year off so it won't be eligible to four-peat. Marcus is joined by fellow Gold Derby editors Paul Sheehan, Chris Beachum, Daniel Montgomery and Joyce Eng in our latest slugfest video.

Let's be honest, a year ago very few people knew who Rachel Brosnahan was. Hell, even a couple months ago, before "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" debuted on Amazon, she could still pass by unnoticed on the streets of New York where she lives. That's all starting to change very rapidly now that her Amazon series has landed and garnered amazing reviews, not to mention a Golden Globe for Best Comedy Series and a Best Actress award for Brosnahan herself.  On this episode of "Happy Sad Confused", Brosnahan talks about what it's like to be the face and voice of Midge, the memorable center of this delightful series. Plus Rachel reveals why her pivotal role on "House of Cards" was such a surprise, what role she lost out on really wrecked her, and why Raven-Symone's work is forever embedded in her brain.  Learn more about your ad choices. Phil Rosenthal is one of Todd’s favorite people within the TV industry to talk to, because he loves making television — whether he’s writing it or starring in it. He's probably best known for creating the Emmy-winning series Everybody Loves Raymond, starring Ray Romano. The show ran for nine seasons, winning the Emmy for Best Comedy Series twice, and it has gone on to a healthy life in reruns. Rosenthal spent several years after Raymond left the air creating new sitcom pilots, translating Raymond for the Russian audience (which he covered in the very funny documentary Exporting Raymond), and trying to get his dream project off the ground. Now, not only is that dream project happening, but it’s in its second season on Netflix. Somebody Feed Phil follows Rosenthal as he travels the world’s great cities, looking for their most delicious dishes, whether it's incredibly spicy soup in Bangkok or an unexpectedly tasty taco (made from “a part of the cow” rarely eaten in America, Rosenthal says) in Mexico City. He joins Todd this week to talk about his show, why not having a poker face is great for making a food show, and which comedies he loves on TV right now. Learn more about your ad choices.
