About Nigel Sade “Nigel Sade was born on a bright and sunny day nearly to some, and exactly to others, 40 years after D-day. Some consider this meaningful whilst the rest laugh at those people, but I digress. He was raised in hell ... or rather Ohio but I don't want to split hairs. In a smallish county called Portage. As a child he could be found drawing on any surface he could make a mark on, and with all the moving security deposits were more like donations. In School this A.D.H.D. Toth wannabe (but with hands) was considered a bit strange by his peers, ... a malady that never left him as it turned out. As a teenager he was a rebellious youth, A Technicolored street Freak, delving into every aspect of art, from Drawing to painting to Music to Religion to Science to Philosophy in general. Then there were the dark times ... the marriage! When his soul was crushed by evil and doubt. He Dreamt of being an artist but that was not a real job ... how could you feed a family with that pipe dream? However, In just 6 and a half long agonizing years it was over. On the Up side His torment was not without reward; He now has 2 lovely Spawn with which to explore life. Shortly after his divorce Nigel graduated college with a degree in Philosophy. So Armed with his freedom, his offspring, and an amazing ability to argue points that even he may not believe, he set out on the high seas of art! This was a joyous thing! There was much weirdness, art, travel, debauchery and Success. Stories were made and told, and now he Currently travel the amber waves of grain, questioning whatever reality he is presented with, chewing that up and spitting it out in the form of art. Then Nigel shows that art to the hapless masses in hopes that it moves them as much at it moved him to create it. Nigel's art in form is Symbolism (Much like Surrealism), represented in either a realism or Abstracts, and in function it explores basic ideas we hold, mostly it does so by exploring questions of Reality, Love, Thought and plain old strangeness. On the 24th of September 1996, a man checked in to the Jolly Roger guest house in Margate in Kent. He gave his name and only checked in with a carrier bag and no other luggage. He was later found deceased in the room 3 days later. The Disneyland website describes this attraction saying: Sail into the wilderness aboard a full-scale replica of a majestic ship from the 18th century.  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes it as being a Slow Water Ride that can get Loud. Before we embark on our journey, here are five fast facts about the Sailing Ship Columbia. 1. The Sailing Ship Columbia opened at Disneyland park on June 14, 1958. 2. The story goes that in the early days of Disneyland, Walt Disney wanted more traffic on the Rivers of America.  He asked Joe Fowler to come up with an idea for a new ship and, after research, Fowler suggested the Columbia Rediviva - The first American vessel to circumnavigate the globe. 3.  The original designs for the ship were sketched out on a napkin by Ray Wallace.  The masts, rigging, spars and sails of the Columbia were constructed at Todd Shipyards, Los Angeles Division, San Pedro, CA 4. The Columbia can hold up to 300 guests on each 12 minute trip around Tom Sawyer's Island. 5. The Columbia has a starring role in the nighttime spectacular Fantastic!  Serving as Captain Hook's ship, the Jolly Roger, in the original and current incarnations of the show and as The Black Pearl from Pirates of the Caribbean in the version that ran from 2017 to 2023. Black Bart, also known as Bartholomew Roberts, was a Welsh pirate who operated during the early 18th century. Born around 1682 in Pembrokeshire, Wales, Roberts began his life at sea as a merchant seaman but later turned to piracy. He is considered one of the most successful pirates in history, capturing over 400 ships during his career. Roberts started his pirating career in 1718 when he joined a pirate ship captained by Howell Davis. After Davis was killed in battle, Roberts took command of the ship and renamed it Royal Fortune. He became known for his cunning and strategic approach to piracy, often targeting ships carrying valuable goods and using his fleet to attack vessels on multiple coasts. Roberts was a charismatic leader who implemented a code of conduct that emphasized democracy and equality among his crew members. He also provided medical insurance and ensured that his crew received a fair share of the plunder. Despite his success, Roberts was eventually killed in battle by a British ship off the coast of Guinea in 1722. Black Bart's legacy extends beyond his pirating exploits. Piracy didn't spring into existence in the 18th century Caribbean. It has existed as long as there has been commercial shipping and people to steal the goods. There were medieval pirates. Vikings loved robbing ships in the Baltic and North Seas. The Romans dealt with pirates in the Mediterranean, and the Greeks and Carthaginians before them. Pirates are as much part of history as armies, taxes, and temples. Why do we associate pirates with one specific time and place in the 18th century Caribbean with eye patches and peg legs?Today's guest is Katherine Howe, author of “The Penguin Book of Pirates.” We go behind the eye patches, the peg legs, and the skull and crossbones of the Jolly Roger and into the no-man's-land of piracy that is rife with paradoxes and plot twists We look at real maritime marauders like the infamous Blackbeard; the pirates who inspired Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean,Stede Bonnet in Max's Our Flag Means Death, and the Dread Pirate Roberts in The Princess Bride; the egalitarian multi-ethnic and multilingual crews that became enmeshed in historical horrors like the slave trade; and lesser-known but no less formidable women pirates, many of whom disguised themselves as men.
