Multifamily Streamlined with Leslie Mathis

Hello apartment friends it's me Leslie Mathis with the Multifamily Streamlined podcast. Well we hit on some heavy topics a few weeks ago and I guess this week will be no different. Because I've been coasting lately on a wing and a prayer or perhaps better described as sliding in sideways there's no road map for the podcast and I just find inspiration from my everyday life. Don't worry that will change because Streamline now has a business support manager. More to come on that but you will see some shifts here on the podcast but until then you're stuck with my old ways and bad habits. Last month was our spring break and we took a long road trip. My dad and Henry included. On the way back I was listening with my dad to Ed Mylet's podcast. He had Lewis Howes on as a guest - it was an awesome episode but the thing he said that stuck with me was the difference between success and greatness. To paraphrase he shared success is all about yourself and what you are able to accomplish but greatness is working with others for the better good accomplishing set goals and bringing others along for the ride. This very thing has been driving my dream or motivation for the Women's Event in October but it truly applies to us all and I just hadn't heard it said this way. If I am being honest I didn't even know who Lewis Howe's was  but since then I have looked it up - he played Arena Football but he is really known as the author of The School of Greatness. My life coach had posted on social that this was a must listen to podcast but again if I am being honest as we traveled down the road I am not even sure if this was the episode she was sharing but dang I am glad I listened to this one.

Who is Quentin Michael?Quentin grew up in Minnesota. He was a shy, soft-spoken kid with a mind that went a mile a minute. (later being diagnosed with ADHD)In 2012, he moved to Wisconsin to start university and found his interests sparked in the tech industry. He attempted to create his first startup that was in the virtual reality space but failed within the next 6 months. He later realized he'd entered the space to just "look cool" and not for the right reasons. Despite the failed attempt, he still kept an eye on the possibility of entrepreneurship as he finished his bachelor's.Two years after graduating he found himself in a bad situation, mentally and financially. He'd hit rock bottom. Over the next 6-9 months he dabbled with different platforms and soon found himself on Linkedin where he become one of Linkedin's first video creators. After beginning to find success on the platform, he started the marketing agency, Urban MisFit Ventures. Over the next few years his company, following, and opportunities grew. Linkedin had changed his life. He found himself on Wisconsin's 25 under 25 and speaking at events like VidCon and TEDx. The opportunity and income came at a cost though, a TON of his time. Micheal found himself working 80+ hours a week with his life revolving around his business. After 2 1/2 years of excitement, things came crashing down in 2020. He shut his company down, COVID hit, & his younger brother passed changing his life perspective forever. Everything changed.Over the next year, things slowed down as he attempted to find his next moves. He dabbled in consulting and podcasting. After that year of reflection, in January 2021, he left entrepreneurship momentarily and become the Marketing Lead at, Lewis Howe's, Greatness Media. After a year, he found himself back into the constant working cycle and felt his work at Greatness Media had run its course despite being a wonderful experience. This brings us to today where Quentin Michael3 aims to live more and work less.He is  focused on:Running experiments. Episode 30: You Don't Need Motivation to Move Forward

The Team Meeting Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 28, 2022 29:09

Friends, today I wanna talk about motivation. It's gonna get a bit spicy on today's episode. My opinion is that you don't need motivation to move forward in life. I'm not motivated to do things, but I am interested in doing many things and realize that to get those things done, I have to do things that are boring and tedious and annoying. You will need to do annoying things to get what you want in life. Instead of waiting for motivation to appear, ask yourself this question:What is the next step I need to take to move my life forward in this area?Example from my lifeI want to fit the jeans that I love which are at the moment too tight to button. They are so cute, they have 5 buttons and they give off a retro vibe. I love them and I can't fit them. I'm not motivated to ease up on the sugar, I'm not motivated to get my heart rate up for longer periods during the say. But I want to fit the jeans so I am moving forward to exercise sometimes I achieve what I wanted and have a great workout and sometimes I miss, but I want to wear the jeans and I'm not giving up. I am not waiting for motivation, I am setting my life up to continue taking the next best steps to fit these jeans.  I found this definition for motivation online. Motivation is the process that initiates, guides, and maintains goal-oriented behaviors. It is what causes you to act, whether it is getting a glass of water to reduce thirst or reading a book to gain knowledge. Motivation involves the biological, emotional, social, and cognitive forces that activate behavior.Let  me add what I think motivation is. I think it's a feeling that we wait for to take action, it's a desire we wait to feel before we take action on something we're afraid to do, or are not interested in doing. Motivation isn't required for success. Taking steps and more steps and learning from your mistakes and doing things that you don't feel like it get you where you need to be.So, take the next best step, and keep taking steps. You want to start a business, make a list of things you need to learn and start learning them. Don't wait for motivation,  take the next best step. Also, note I referred to a great podcast episode and I said it was on Lewis Howe's show, but I was wrong. You should definitely listen to Lewis Howes. Welcome back to the Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning Podcast. If you’ve been listening to our podcast and wonder what exactly we do at Achieveit360.com, go to our website and take a look.[i] We provide courses, books and tools for teachers to implement Character and SEL programs in the classroom along with other consulting services that can be used in the corporate workplace. You can watch this interview on YouTube, but you won't be able to hear the backstory, unless you listen through your favorite podcast channel. Listen to all past episodes here.  Here’s the Back Story behind the programs and services that were inspired by our guest today, Bob Proctor. You can go to our website’s About Us[ii] section to see an outline of the last 20 years, and you will see a picture of him at the top of the page, but first let me explain who he is. In 1961, Bob Proctor started studying the book, Think and Grow Rich[iii] (right now it’s showing as #1 in Entrepreneurship Books on Amazon) and this book transformed his life. If you’ve been lucky enough to see Bob Proctor speak live, you’ll see this book and one look at it, you’ll know he’s been reading it every day.He listened to Earl Nightingale’s condensed recording of the book thousands of times, he said he would put this record player in his car and listen to it (back in the days that I can still remember when we had vinyl records before music and audio recordings became available online). He then created his own position that allowed him to work shoulder-to-shoulder with Earl Nightingale at Nightingale-Conant (that at the time was the largest distribution house for personal development programs). He worked there until 1973, before leaving to start his own personal development company where he’s been training people around the world ever since. Today, Bob has studied thousands of books, continues to read Think and Grow Rich every day, and is considered the world’s foremost expert on the human mind.I can personally say that Bob Proctor is one of the rare speakers out there who truly lives and breathes what he teaches, with full integrity—he walks his talk and inspires those around him to do the same. I was fortunate enough to cross paths with Bob in the late 1990s when I was a school teacher in Toronto, when I asked my neighbor, Mark Low, what he did for a living, and he didn’t say much, but he handed me Bob’s You Were Born Rich[iv] book that I read the next day in a staff meeting (hiding it behind my binder as I pretended I was listening to the meeting) and my life was never the same after that day. The book was not just about being rich financially, but was about being rich in potential, saying that we all have deep reservoirs of talent within ourselves, and that we have greatness locked up inside ourselves...everyone has reservoirs of great talent and ability within us and if we can bring it to the surface we can accomplish anything we want. I really liked that idea. That was 24 years ago, and it’s definitely been a journey that started when I quit my job as a teacher and went to work in his offices selling seminars. I want to share some of the top lessons learned from Bob, before we go into the interview. I will definitely do a deep dive into his content after this episode, as it’s so valuable, but looking back to the day I met him, here are my biggest take-aways. If you have some that you want to share, please tag me on social media when I post this interview and share some of yours.Lesson 1: I learned how to set huge goals that most people would say were crazy when Bob asked me “what do you really want?” When I told him, he told me that there were certain steps I needed to follow, that started with writing my goals down on this card he gave me, and if I did all the things he suggested, and believed in what I was doing, I could have what I wanted. I really believed him and followed what he told me to do. Lesson 2: I learned how to be resourceful and make money based on my natural talents and skills. When Sept 11th happened, I had just moved to the US and had big plans of what I was doing...all of them halted just like many peoples plans halted or changed during the pandemic, but I knew I was great with children, and ended up getting a job as a nanny through one of the local resorts, eventually being the most requested nanny’s there. I also always valued keeping a clean and tidy house, so when I needed to make more money, I found work cleaning houses that was great money, and also very humbling, and not far from the work that Bob did in his early days...he would talk about it all the time, how he made great money cleaning offices, and it kept me on track with my goals. Lesson 3: I learned the basics of sales, which came in handy when I worked in the publishing industry. It was this skill, along with persistence, that allowed me to earn enough money to buy my first home in AZ and start living the life that I described when he first met me, and asked me “what do you really want?”Lesson 4: Was on how to generate energy so that I could accomplish more in less time. There was this one time that I was going to an event at 5am and this was years before I was an early riser. I was not like this when I lived in Toronto. When the car arrived at my house one morning to take me to an event, Bob was in it, and when I jumped in...he asked me how I was. And this at 5am it was pitch black, and I was probably still sleeping...and I said I was tired...and Bob said...pardon? I thought he was losing his hearing so I leaned forward and told him again, I’m tired Bob...and then he said something I never forget to this day.He said, “I thought you knew that we can create our own energy.”I was quiet for a minute and realized that he was expected me to integrate what he was teaching at these seminars...into my daily life."Ahhh"...I said...and I never told him I was tired again. And when anyone ever asked me how I was, and I was tired, I never admitted that…ever again.I learned how to generate my own energy through diet and exercise that ensures I can accomplish more, but it started that early morning, when bob asked me “how are you?”Bob has always surpassed me with energy. He’s got more energy than anyone I’ve ever seen. He starts his seminars on a Thursday or Friday night, and runs straight through till late Sunday night, never sitting down, taking a break, or saying, phew, I’m tired. Lesson 5: Is about the impression of increase or to put in more effort than you expect back. Well, that came from the SGR seminar and is a concept that has stuck with me to always do my best, without expecting any gain.Lesson 6: is about integrating your beliefs with your behavior. If you look at your goals, and what you believe, then look at whether the actions you are taking line up and ask “is by behavior consistent to what I want?”  I learned that Bob really does do ALL of the things he says he does. There was one day about a month after Sept 11th happened and I was in the same place he was staying at for a few days, and I knew things were up in the air with his company as no one was getting on airplanes to travel to the seminars. Things had changed overnight just like that. When I looked over at where he was sitting, I saw that he was reading Wayne Dyer’s There’s a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem[v] and I knew right then and there that Bob was looking for answers on where to pivot to next. He’s always reading something to gather new ideas and strategies and of course I bought that book immediately not wanting to miss out on some important knowledge.Lesson 7: To live every day like it’s your last. He’s the one who told me the idea that when you really want something, you are trading your life for that goal. That didn’t make sense until recently, I see the work that went into where I am today, and yes, I traded my life for that. The daily repetitive work towards the goal I always wanted, until I got to one level, then to next, and I can see how I traded each day for that goal I wanted and am grateful that I picked a worthy goal to trade my life for.Lesson 8: Excellence is a commitment to completion. I learned to complete what I start early on, not that I’ve always done this, but I know how important it is to see a project through until it’s completed. Whether it’s a project, or something as simple as saying, I’m going to the gym and actually taking the action to go, when we say we are going to do something, I believe in the importance of doing it.Lesson 9: when stuck with your direction, I learned how to write out on a piece of paper on the left side what I don’t want, let’s say you are not happy with your work, you’ll want to get a clear picture of what will make you happy, and seeing it on paper will open your eyes. Once you know what you don’t want, it’s easy to go to the right side and write the polar opposite on the paper....so you know what you can work towards. This is a huge lesson in self-awareness. You’ll get to know yourself better after you do this and then you need to honor the things that make you happy.Lesson 10: I learned that success really is possible if you really want it, but there will be work involved. If I am willing to do that work that involves daily reading, studying and then taking action on the ideas I want to create, that “strange and marvelous things will happen with constant regularity as you alter your life.”I would love to hear any thoughts or take-aways as you listen to the interview. Let’s get straight to the interview…and hear directly from Bob Proctor himself. This is episode #66 with world renowned speaker, motivation and success coach, author of best-selling books, and my mentor, Bob Proctor[vi].Welcome Bob, thank you so much for taking the time to come on this podcast that really is here because of you, for inspiring me 24 years ago to take action with these ideas. You asked me “what do you really want?” and I told you. Then you showed me how to get it and here we are today. Thank you so much for helping me to create the life that I saw all those years ago. I’ve had a chance to thank pretty much everyone who’s helped me along the way, kept in touch with Greg Link from the Covey Organization and he always asks how you are doing, so along with thanking you, I wanted to be sure to pass on a few of the people along the way who have always asked about you because you’ve made such an impact on their world as well. Another person was Joe Gray, from Sunlife’s Scarborough Branch. My Mom worked there, and she still keeps in touch with him, and he’s always asking about you because of the impact you made with those guys selling life insurance back in the day. The last time I was there, they all still carried their goal cards in their shirt pockets. Thanks for all you’ve done to wake so many of us up to take action and create a life that we wouldn’t have thought was possible without you pushing us to think of the limitless possibilities.INTRO: Bob, the reason I wanted to reach out to you, and have you on this podcast is because I discovered social and emotional learning skills that are making inroads in our schools today, with plenty of research to back up the results that occur with students who study these skills—I discovered them, by chance through you and we are a year into this podcast now, and are experiencing incredible results, showing me that people are looking for ways to learn new strategies and tools to improve their results, using the most current neuroscience, while also tapping into their own social and emotional skills…and you knew this YEARS AGO…Can I take you back to when I had this HUGE AHA moment? It was one of those unforgettable moments, you know, one of those moments in our life when we know things will never be the same again—a clear moment of truth. Like when I think back to it, there could have fancy orchestra music playing as if to say, “Pay Attention Andrea!”  You were working with a group of teens we called them YMI or Youth Mentor International (I think we were in New Orleans at the Superdome) with skills that developed their attitude, mindset, confidence and goal-setting abilities, (what we used to call soft skills) and it skyrocketed their results.I know you’ll remember Brian Johnson, but not sure if you would know that at the time you were showcasing these students, I was in the audience of at least 8,000 people, and Brian had just started to speak his part and share what he was learning from you, and he started to stutter, and we’ve all been there, public speaking at any age is stressful, let alone at the Louisiana Superdome and you stood behind this teen and rubbed his back in such a way that he calmed down and was able to speak without any problems, and I was blown away, on so many levels.  As a teacher, I had really struggled to make an impact on the students in my classroom, and then here were these 12 teens talking about their unusual results after only a few months of working with lessons that mirrored what we now know to be called growth mindset, self-awareness and self-regulated learning that are now evidence-based strategies being implemented in schools (and workplaces) around the world.  I just remember it felt like a brick hit me in stomach, and I seriously couldn’t breathe, I just started crying, my face went all red and blotchy, because I knew at that moment that this was it—this is what I was meant to be doing for the rest of my life, and then I had to go and help Gina with back of the room sales and then Milt Campbell who was up on stage that day, was there and came over to introduce himself to me—and I knew I needed to learn what you were teaching these kids more than anyone.Q1: Thinking back to those 12 YMI teens you started working with (and then the hundreds of them who followed working with the tape program) Why do you think these teens had such incredible results after just a few months of working with you and these lessons?  What were they missing? Q2: You’ve been studying for almost 60 years now—if we count back to when you started reading Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich book and I wonder what you think are some common reasons that people don’t reach their full potential? I think it’s something that I learned from your You Were Born Rich Book, to recognize the potential in ourselves and other people (and I know that we all have this potential) I see it especially with young people—some of them shine like a bright light—but only the rare few actually develop their talents and abilities to their fullest. I wrote down this quote in 1999 (I think from the SGR Seminar). You said “the person who is certain to advance is one who is too big for his place and has a clear concept of what he wants to be—who knows that he can become what he wants to be and is determined to be what he wants to be.” It makes sense to me that schools are now teaching self-awareness to students to help them to uncover their strengths but what do you think is the formula that we should all know on how to develop an unwavering belief in our abilities so we don’t default back to doubt/worry/ anxiety and fear that sabotages our results?Q3: Back when I worked with your offices, I was always looking for something to study and I found this old video program, called “The Journey of the Mind” where you were walking through this set that has large stones, and you covered topics like responsibility, paradigms, goals, attitude, persistence, and decision. This program became the outline of my first book, The Secret for Teens Revealed[vii] and you wrote the foreword and it became the backbone for the courses that I’ve created for the school market. I don’t know what ever happened to that course you created, but I think it’s crazy to think that years later, Carol Dweck published her book Mindset: The Psychology of Success[viii] (that changed millions of lives with its insights into growth mindset). You didn’t call it growth mindset but were teaching this all along with your programs when you were teaching about changing results by changing our beliefs. What about YOUR belief Bob? When you were creating some of these programs that didn’t take off (I think the one I saw was never produced into a film like it was supposed to) did you ever lose belief in what you were doing? How did you stay on track until your programs took off the way you envisioned?Q4: I know when things really changed for your organization, and it was when Rhonda Byrne contacted you about appearing in this movie, The Secret,[ix] that accelerated your work around the world, along with many others. For those who have never heard this story, can you share how you just happened to be in the right place, at the right time, to meet her? Why do you think we meet certain people at certain times in our life who accelerate us/take us to our next level and what can we do to prepare ourselves to be ready when this happens?Q5: This is the only science-based question, but I have to ask it because it ties directly to your work.  I’ve been studying Dr. Daniel Siegel[x] (do you know Dan?) He’s a clinical professor of psychiatry from UCLA’s School of Medicine and executive director of The Mindsight Institute[xi] who did episode 28 on “Mindsight: The Basis for Social and Emotional Intelligence”[xii] and he has spent years showing the scientific connection between the mind and the brain. Dan talks about that “science clearly demonstrates that we have 2 realms in our physical universe—and this is not commonly known.”  He asked 3,000 tech experts and 3,000 therapists and only 5% had ever heard of this. That reminded me of when you asked all those schoolteachers if they knew what the faculties of their mind were, and none of them could tell you. Well, Dan shows how there is one world where time/space exist, and the other world, the quantum world, is timeless and full of possibilities. To me, this is what Wallace D. Wattles speaks about in The Science of Getting Rich[xiii] book that inspired half a billion people since the movie The Secret was inspired by this book and all the possibilities that exist in this other realm. Can you talk a bit about what you know about this second realm as it pertains to not only making money, but the place we go in our mind when we pray, or say our affirmations, or reach during meditation, because science shows that there is this plane of possibility or the “formless source” where anything is possible. Q6: I listened to the podcast you did with Lewis Howe’s[xiv] this weekend. I love that guy and his podcast and learning from those who are doing well within industry, and it made me think of something else I wanted to ask you. Do you have time to cover one last Q? If so, what do you think is important for all of us to be thinking and doing during these strange times? Thank you, Bob, I want to let people know about your upcoming programs, and how they can learn more about you. This is episode #34 with Chris Farrell, host of the podcast “Setbacks and Success”[i] where Chris, a former radio/TV presenter turned lifestyle entrepreneur, shares the struggles, obstacles and hurdles in life, and how we can overcome them. Be sure to check out Chris’ podcast  where you will see his first episode with the creator of Baywatch, who I am sure I recall he met on an airplane, who shares how this billion dollar brand almost failed, and his second episode is with one of my favorite podcasters, Lewis Howe’s with his School of Greatness[ii]. You can hear this flashback interview here, or on YouTube.Welcome to the “Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning” podcast, my name is Andrea Samadi, a former educator who has been fascinated with understanding the science behind high performance strategies in schools, sports and the workplace for the past 20 years. Our guest today, Chris Farrell is one of the most respected and successful internet marketers in the industry. Chris’s training products and websites have already helped tens of thousands of people create and grow their online business and I was blessed to be mentored by Chris when I was creating our online courses for Achieveit360. Chris is a popular in demand public speaker – having worked with and spoken on stage with Brian Tracy, the late Dr Stephen Covey, Gary Vaynerchuck, Robert Cialdini, Daymond John, and Harv Eker amongst others. In 2017, Chris began his podcast Setbacks & Success, showcasing the highs and lows of business owners, entrepreneurs, and people doing great things. He travels the world and has one of those personalities where he is drawn to meet people and when he gets to know you, he’s always looking for ways that he can bring value and wants to genuinely help others reach those higher levels of success.  He’s Originally from London, England (which explains his accent) – but relocated to Los Angeles.  I hope you enjoy this flashback interview, that I felt was very relevant for the launch of this New Year.  Even though this was at the start of the year in 2014, I am sure you will find his success strategies helpful and inspiring.REFERENCES:[i] https://setbacksandsuccess.com/podcast/[ii] https://lewishowes.com/sogpodcast/

Listened to this Lewis Howe’s podcast with Devon Still earlier in the week, and grateful that I did. Devon Still played football for Penn State and some of you know that I am a big fan of PSU Wrestling and Football. Devon Still was at PSU during the Jerry Sandusky scandal and he was actually a senior and captain of the team during that time. Being a fan, it was interesting to hear is perspective. However, what captivated me, and at moments almost brought me to tears, was him sharing the story about his daughter, Leah, and her battle with cancer, at 4 years-old. It was incredibly moving and powerful. In this episode, we share how some lessons I learned from listening to Devon and Lewis helped me through a tough moment this week. “It is okay to not be okay.” – Devon Still

I recently returned home from a week in Columbus Ohio. I attended Lewis Howe’s event, as well as an emotional intelligence training called Next Level.   To say this past week was impactful would be a dramatic understatement.   But I’ve noticed a theme. And in my quest for personal growth, there’s a major takeaway I received from my time in Columbus. accccc It’s what allows us to grow in an accelerated fashion.   It’s what allows us to process faster than ever.   It’s what allows us to let go of our past, and step into our power.   I share that takeaway on today’s Fan Question Friday. I hope it helps you in your journey as well.   #StayCurious

Take the Free "Jumpstart Your Website Traffic" marketing mini-course at www.jumpstartyourwebsitetraffic.com Leave a Review! I’M SO GRATEFUL FOR THE PEOPLE THAT MARKET POSSIBILITY ONLINE. I knew I wanted more out of my life, but I really didn’t know how to go about getting it, but I’m so grateful for Google. Seriously. Shout out to Google for putting the world of possibility at my fingertips. Yep, Google and the internet are my very first shoutouts today because I wouldn’t know what I know about anything that I do without them. It’s something I know I take for granted, but it’s so, so important! I’M DEEPLY GRATEFUL FOR GREAT FRIENDS WHO SINCERELY WANT TO HELP YOU BE THE BEST PERSON YOU WANT TO BE. Friends who see that you’re struggling and striving to change who give you a book, ask you if you want to read it together and go through the program together and that book ends up changing the trajectory of your life and gives you the clarity you need to come up with a plan and execute – and then support you and cheer you on all along the way. I’M GRATEFUL FOR PEOPLE THAT GIVE AWAY ALL THEIR ANSWERS, AND WHO GET EXCITED WHEN PEOPLE ACTUALLY TAKE ACTION ON THE INFORMATION THAT THEY ARE SHARING TO CHANGE THEIR LIVES. People like Chalene Johnson, whose book PUSH was given to me by that friend I mentioned above, and how I discovered by doing the exercises in the book that I had a deep desire to own my own business and be my own boss and by doing that, everything else I wanted in life would be made easier. CHALENE JOHNSON’S PODCASTS, BUILD YOUR TRIBE AND THE CHALENE SHOW – GAVE ME THE BLUEPRINT FOR IMAGINING WHAT LIFE COULD BE LIKE. And her Marketing Impact Academy launch videos showed me the first steps, and her Marketing Impact Academy Live Event forced me out of my shell and made me talk to people in person in real life. And now the 131 Diet, which is coming out right when I’m able to quit my day job because I have my own business – a plan I put in motion 4 years ago after reading PUSH because I wanted more time to focus on my health and fitness. I don’t think it’s any coincidence that Chalene’s new “diet” is coming out right when I’ll have plenty of white space to implement it and take action on it. PEOPLE LIKE PAT FLYNN, WHO RECORD PODCASTS THAT GIVE AWAY ALL THE INFORMATION REQUIRED TO CREATE INCOME ONLINE. Pat interviews guests and asks all the questions I want to know the answers to – like, “Exactly how did you do that, step by step?” and “How much money did you make?” and “How big is your email list?” And who shares how much money he makes, how he makes it and then tells me exactly how I can do it too. Pat does a few things that I love. He shows you not only through himself but through all of his guests that it’s possible to make money online doing something that you love, and he gives you a frame of reference of how much time, work and money it will take to do it. It’s not just fluff, it’s the nuts and bolts of exactly what you need to know, and in a format that you can listen to while you’re doing other things. PEOPLE LIKE NATHALIE LUSSIER, WHO GIVES AWAY THE SECRET TO BUILDING YOUR BUSINESS IN A TOTALLY FREE ONLINE COURSE CALLED THE 30 DAY LIST BUILDING CHALLENGE. I know I’ve said this a million times and I’ll say it again. This course is responsible for me being able to quit my day job. And it cost me $27 because I wanted the fast track. Do you know how much that is worth? So not only is Nathalie going to teach me, for practically free, how to get customers, she’s going to offer me some of the best software out there to do it, which YES, I will buy that because now I believe that anything you put out is gold (and it has been), and you know what else that taught me to do? Give it all away. Nathalie was the inspiration for giving away all the knowledge for free. Nathalie, Pat, and Chalene created a perfect storm of information, inspiration and how-to, and after learning all I could from them, I could not be stopped. Building my business and working toward my dream took priority over all the BS things I’d been doing, like watching crap reality TV, sleeping in because I had too many beers the night before, sitting around complaining about how much I hated my job. AND THEN ALONG COMES REBECCA TRACEY. I have no idea how I found her, I’m sure it was from a Facebook group because I found the Uncaged Life and I was like, holy sh%t, this is the kind of business I want to run. Like, I had all the what and how and why and proof from Nathalie, Pat, and Chalene, but Becca Tracey showed me how to SAY it, and how to BE it, and how to OWN it, and how to be myself, and how to package that up into a product and sell it. I’m not an edgy person, you guys. I’m a plain vanilla basic midwest girl who wishes she was edgier, so at first I wanted to be like Becca, but through her Hey Nice Package course and HNP live workshops and just her blog and webinars, I just figured out how to be me, and that’s a huge relief, because if I had to pretend I was super cool and trendy all the time I would not be able to fake it. I already feel like I’m not in the right job, that would make it worse! AND IF I THOUGHT I KNEW IT ALL FROM TAKING IN AND TAKING ACTION ON EVERY LAST PIECE OF INFORMATION I COULD FROM THOSE GUYS, I’M INTRODUCED TO THE BEING BOSS PODCAST. OMG. This is the not-so-distant future, you guys. Talk about some real people who have taken massive, focused action toward success. Emily Thompson and Kathleen Shannon’s podcast is like hanging out every day with people who GET you – your dreams, your goals, your fears, but also who celebrate your successes. Because let’s face it… When I tell my best friend or my husband about how I finally landed on a name for my course, they smile and are happy for me but they just don’t GET it. It’s a huge dose of validation and it makes me feel like I’m on the right track. And they dig in, you guys, just like Pat Flynn does. It’s not fluff, it’s action. AND FOR CHRIS GUILLEBEAU AND HIS SIDE HUSTLE SCHOOL PODCAST AND SIDE HUSTLE BOOK. This one… this one is just mind-blowing. I heard Chris on Lewis Howe’s School of Greatness podcast, and his message about struggling with depression even with all of his business success really resonated with me, like, this guy is a real, vulnerable person, not just some “bro” entrepreneur out to make bank. I replied to a call for side hustle stories, and I didn’t even know it was for Chris or his podcast – and he featured my story!! A New York TimesBestselling Author told my story on his podcast. And then… I find out my story is part of his book. Are you kidding me right now? Like my name is printed in a book, and my side-hustle story is in a book. That other people read. And then they find me online and I help them build websites to support their side-hustles. It’s really hard to wrap my mind around that… So I’m grateful to Chris not only for the opportunity, the amazing people he’s connecting me with but also for helping me expand my mind around what’s POSSIBLE. ON THAT NOTE, I’M SO GRATEFUL FOR PODCASTS. You guys, if you’ve ever thought you don’t have TIME to learn what it takes to follow your dreams, then I’d like to introduce you to this thing called PODCASTS. It’s the only way to learn where you can be doing other things, like driving, working out, working your day job, making dinner, cleaning your house… Seriously, if you are not taking advantage of learning from some of the smartest people out there who are actually successful online, make it your mission in 2018 to start listening to podcasts. I’M ALSO GRATEFUL FOR HAVING A JOB THAT I HATED BECAUSE I FINALLY LEARNED THAT I’M IN CONTROL OF HOW I FEEL. That my job never did anything to me to make me hate it, it was my bad attitude and negativity that made it unbearable. If I hadn’t figured that out, there’s no way I’d be able to create a successful business of my own, I’d carry the same bad attitude with me. And once I changed my attitude, everything changed. In fact, I’m having a hard time leaving this place now that it’s time because all of my coworkers are amazing people who have gone out of their way to make it know how much they want me to stay. Wow. I’M GRATEFUL FOR HAVING A BOSS WHO IS A TRUE MENTOR.   One who believes in me, who wants to see me succeed, who supported my side hustle from the moment I told her about it, and who knows that an employee who is fulfilled outside of work is a better employee at work. Thanks, Lori! There should be more CEOs in the world like Lori Chovanak, and if anyone can make that happen, she can. AND I’M GRATEFUL FOR THE COACHING INDUSTRY, A THING I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW EXISTED UNTIL A FEW YEARS AGO. And sorry not sorry Vicki Fitch, but I’m so glad you were about to throw your laptop out the window trying to build your website and that you found me in Freedom Hackers (thanks Kimra!!), started my 5 Day Challenge, connected with me, I figured out she was a business coach and signed up for a free 20 minute consultation. IN 20 MINUTES, VICKI FITCH REFRAMED MY MINDSET IN SUCH A WAY THAT SOMETHING THAT HAD BEEN HOLDING ME BACK HAD BEEN COMPLETELY BULLDOZED. The flood of possibility came rushing through. And I’m so glad I got up off my wallet and invested in coaching with her because I’ve made every cent back and then some, and I know I wouldn’t have been able to do it without her. I’M GRATEFUL FOR MY HUSBAND FLOYD, WHO IS MY BEST FRIEND. CLICHE’ I KNOW, BUT TRUE. He works around my busy schedule and never complains about how much I work, who is proud of me, who allows his beliefs about what is possible in our life to change as I do crazy things like quit my job and figure out exactly how much our dream home will cost and make him tell me what kind of lawnmower he would need if we had 10 acres and a log cabin, who does simple, nice thoughtful things for me and believes that I will be successful. I’M GRATEFUL THAT I HAVE A SUPER SUPPORTIVE, LOVING FAMILY WHO IS PROUD OF ME. They encourage me when I share that I’m afraid to quit my job to follow my dreams, who tell me that I HAVE to do it, that I will be fine and give me perspective by reminding me that I’m not the first person to do it and that both my mom and Grandpa have owned their own businesses, who read every single blog post (hi Mommy!!) and by telling me that I can come live with them if I need to or that they have a job I’d be perfect for if it all goes to shit. They make it so that I can’t “fail”, and I love the crap out of them for it. I’M GRATEFUL THAT I BELIEVE IN MYSELF ENOUGH TO TAKE ACTION. To try. To embarrass myself. To fail. To get up and try again. To spend money. To waste money (it’s never a waste, it’s always a lesson). To learn how to give up control. To learn how to ask for help. To admit that I don’t know everything, that I’m not always right, and that I don’t have all the answers all the time. To accept constructive feedback. To have great successes and accomplishments and be proud of them, and not minimize them and play it small. To accept people’s compliments without feeling weird #workingonit. I’M NOT DOING ANY OF THIS ALONE. THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO HAVE HELPED ME MAKE MY DREAMS POSSIBLE. Sara & Christina at One Woman Shop. Amy Porterfield, whose podcast I just discovered (yes, I’ve been living under a rock apparently) and is just what I need at this stage in my business. Lewis Howes who shows how to be authentic and real and vulnerable. AND THEN THERE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT HELP ME ACTUALLY DO THE WORK (AS BEING BOSS SAYS). The She Can Coterie team – those people are amazingly smart, awesome, and insightful, and I can’t wait to continue our work in 2018. Maren, Kim, Marium and Rachel who I rely on for all the things they do better than I do when it comes to building WordPress sites and without whom I’d never have been able to work full time and keep it all afloat. AND FINALLY, I WANT TO THANK YOU GUYS, MY BFFS, ALL THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE TAKEN THE FREE 5 DAY WEBSITE CHALLENGE BECAUSE THEY WANT THE SAME THING I DO. All the people that have shared it, told their friends and networking groups about it. Thank you to all the people who have bought my courses and learned from me to get closer to your dreams. I cannot wait to help you get even closer in 2018 and beyond! SO TELL ME IN THE COMMENTS BELOW – WHAT ARE YOU THANKFUL FOR THIS SEASON? Who are all the people that have helped you on your journey? What do you need to start being thankful for that you’re not so thankful for right now in order to move forward (like that pesky day job)?

Tuesday April 24, 2018  and Certified Ayurvedic Health Counselor Andrea Catherine is here to share with us her spring cleanse.     Consistency, consistency, consistency… I’m struggling this day because this weekend I was on google Analytics and trying to figure out what people are doing… because 25,000 people have been to my website and left within 10 seconds. It always tells me the average is 90 seconds but to see 25,000 have left in 10 seconds? Google Analytics is a rabbit hole. Part of me is like I should quit doing the show notes. I do the show notes for me because when I am talking with the guest it helps me remember what people say so i can tie it altogether. And someday I may write a book…anyway… What’s cooking? (https://www.groundedhere.com/tea) I finally tried the golden milk (https://www.groundedhere.com/tea) . I woke up from a bad dream and could not fall asleep and the golden milk totally worked! (https://www.groundedhere.com/fearless-self-love-retreats) The mystery and magic is more in the intension then the food blasphemous cooking and preparing food has so much to do with the pausing being with the ingredients grinding up spices for the golden milk To me that’s the preparation for our digestion slowing down using our senses experience what we are preparing to receive the thing we are cooking for us something easier to digest calm our nervous system in a way that we can then receive. preparing and drinking the milk was something that served you so well… So i was listening to this podcast trying fall asleep with Gwenyth Paltrow interviewing Oprah and Oprah talks about how she is present in every single second of her life. (https://goop.com/thepodcast/) The GooP Podcast (https://goop.com/thepodcast/) I also texted you my phone screen died and I have my old iPhone 4 out and it won’t download anything etc. There were 2 Lewis Howe’s podcasts on there one with the Founder of Organifi and he was talking about Ayurvedic Nurtition. Oprah doesn’t know it she’s totally my homegrown. I totally think Hillary Clinton will come have tea in my garden someday. One thing I learned about Google Analytics my listeners go to news websites their news junkies like Mike. My mom and Mike are appalled with the whole Facebook thing my feeling is it’s time to buy facebook stock they’re not going anywhere. They take money now, they bought instagram! I love instagram! Everybody loves instagram! I threaten quite often to throw my phone in the river my ideal lifestyle would involve technology an hour a day or less which is a long day off. I’m just thinking about  when I’m happiest my phone is on airplane mode and my computer is no where near me Im in the kitchen or in nature all of these tools to connect us we know they isolate us in a way share with you what I wanted to talk about today that pause how to do that why to do that So Jackie it’s time for a cleanse for me at least. Every year, 2xs a year I do some kind of a cleanse involves  Ayurvedic Kitchari  (https://www.groundedhere.com/cleanse)   Ayurvedic Kitchari (https://www.groundedhere.com/cleanse) mung beans basmati rice vegetables in season cilantro cumin coriander black pepper salt avocado herbal tea that’s it mono diet for 3-7 days in the winter fall transition I stick to that mono diet nourishing the body digests it very well mung bean most easy to digest legume white basmati easier to digest or stick to  quiona amaranth dahl beans themselves spices in the golden milk help to digest the bean help to eliminate gas In springtime what I will do do about a weeklong cleanse I will not just have  Kitchari...   I was fortunate enough to receive an advance copy of my friend and mentor, Lewis Howe’s book, Mask of Masculinity. I devoured the book in just a couple of days and love how it brought me just as many moments of enlightenment and breakthroughs as it did resistance. And this is why I was so honored to have an in-person interview with Lewis the other day to talk about it.   If you’re a man who wants to understand the masks he wears or a woman who wants to obtain the “keys to the kingdom” and the tools to connect with the men in her life, I definitely recommend buying the book (or pre-ordering – it releases Oct. 31) and for sure listening to this episode as he explains more about his journey with this book and also gives an in-depth into his sincere and giving nature.   --   Question Highlights: Why did you write Mask of Masculinity and why right now? Was the book a healing process for you as well as other men? Do women wear these masks as well? Which of the 9 different masks did you tend to wear the most? When did wearing one of these masks really cost you something? How have these masks shown up in your business? What if someone likes their masks? How do we know if we have a healthy mindset? Do you ever find yourself purposely trying to avoid masks? What is one of your all-time favorite moments of giving? And more…   In This Episode You Will Learn:   Why Lewis wrote Mask of Masculinity How his new book helps men let go of their ego and heal How men are conditioned to react with anger and frustration What ways men use masks to fit in or to ensure they’re worthy of acceptance How we can break out of our default masks by getting to the root cause of them The importance of being aware of things that trigger your masks When money feels fulfilling or unfulfilling Why it’s necessary to have regular conversations about money The reason why Lewis still drives a 1991 Cadillac he bought for $4,000 Why having a holistic lifestyle is a non-negotiable for Lewis What the rewards and prices of wearing masks are And so much more…   Lewis’s Thoughts…   “If we want to be ultimate human beings, we should be committed to our vision, not our egos, which hurt us.”   “Reacting is never as good as responding from a place of grace.”   “How can I be driven to achieve what I want, but make sure I’m living in harmony as well?”   “Be who you want to be and embrace it, but have peace in your heart.”   “Ultimate fulfillment is when we continue to grow and contribute to others.”   “If self-worth is based on a mask, it’s temporary.”   “Even if you can’t give financially, you can still give your heart and energy to people and it will feel amazing.”   “Don’t stop being who you are. Step into who you fully are by embracing a holistic lifestyle.”   “The more you achieve and succeed, the more of an example you can set for others.”   --   Before LEWIS HOWES became a media sensation for empowering people and sharing 'Greatness' across the globe, he had his share of obstacles to overcome. From having a learning disability, which led to being alone and bullied in school, to being sexually abused as a child, to being injured and broke on his sister’s couch, Lewis’s story is the perfect example of how anybody can overcome the obstacles in their life and achieve greatness. Fast forward a few short years, and Lewis is a New York Times Bestselling author of the hit book, The School of Greatness and releases his new book, Mask of Masculinity on Oct. 31. He is a lifestyle entrepreneur, high performance business coach and keynote speaker. A former professional football player and two-sport All-American, he is a current USA Men’s National Handball Team athlete. He hosts a top 100 podcast in the world, The School of Greatness, which has over 40 million downloads since it launched in 2013. He was recognized by The White House and President Obama as one of the top 100 entrepreneurs in the country under 30. Lewis has been featured on Ellen, The New York Times, People, Forbes, Inc, Fast Company, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Men’s Health, The Today Show and other major media outlets.   Resources:   Mask of Masculinity by Lewis Howes Available for pre-order now at: http://Maskofmasculinity.com   http://LewisHowes.com IG: @lewishowes FB: facebook.com/lewishowes  For more stories and tips on becoming unapologetically wealthy, follow me @Chriswharder on Instagram and check out fortheloveofmoney.com.

32: How to Become a SOCIAL MEDIA CELEBRITY by GIVING with Amanda Bucci

It’s not often that you hear of successful entrepreneurs who never actually planned to be an entrepreneur. And that’s just one of the reasons why I’m so excited to share with you my conversation with YouTube star and “accidental entrepreneur,” Amanda Bucci. It all began as Amanda was finishing up her nursing degree in college. With an ongoing interest and passion for fitness, she decided to track her fitness progress by creating an Instagram account. Without any expectations of a following, out of nowhere she had 15,000 followers. So how did she attract these people? Through GIVING! As many of you know, when you post progress pictures, your workout routine, your thoughts etc., you’re going to get questions about how you were able to achieve your results. And with her spirit of generosity, Amanda felt called to respond back (paragraphs at a time) because she genuinely wanted to help. There was no money being made at this point, but that soon changed. Building a reputation as a coach, Amanda soon started taking one-on-one clients in addition to waitressing. Add studying for nursing exams and Amanda was maxed out. To free up time, Amanda decided to ditch the waitressing and create and sell an ebook. There wasn’t a plan, just a vision and the desire to help others (and help herself as well if she could). Her first ebook, The Ins and Outs of Tracking Your Macros was a huge success and she found in addition to her coaching clients, she was making enough money to cover her living expenses with a little extra. With a nursing career still in sight, Amanda struggled. She didn’t have the desire or extra time to study. Her passion for nursing had transitioned to fitness. Nonetheless, Amanda followed through, took the registered nurse exams and…didn’t pass. A common occurrence, Amanda scheduled to take the test again, but when the time came take it again, she decided against it. It was time to take her fitness career to the next level (at this point she had already made $50,000 in just six short months!). Amanda took on more clients, started providing more content and kept sharing on Instagram and YouTube. So how did she do it in a world FULL of social media fitness stars? Amanda advises to not get discouraged by the amount of people who are doing something similar. There are so many people who need YOUR special message and guidance. “People want to connect with people. It’s not just the information that people are seeking.” Amanda feels that people buy things because they like the person they’re buying a particular product/program from.  “You can still shine your personality through your content in a way that makes you stand out and makes you unique.”   If someone else is doing something similar…great! But know that you have the power to make it better, different and MORE valuable. A game-changer for Amanda has been her practice of being transparent in so many areas of her life. It’s about giving people a first-hand look into your life… Share your struggles, what you’re feeling and what you’re doing. The more you share, the more successful your community/following will be.  Being so new to entrepreneurship, throughout her recent experiences, Amanda had never really thought about her long-term financial and impact goals.  “I was focused on growth. I was focused on being better every single day and providing valuable content.” Realizing she needed to seek outside help for her business, she joined Lewis Howe’s Mastermind group (where we actually first met). Amanda has learned so much from him and other fellow entrepreneurs about what she wants the future of her business to look like. And one thing that was inevitable, she needed to offer more products and unapologetically charge for them. While this was difficult at first, Amanda realized that charging someone often guarantees more success, because people are held more accountable. She also reflects that it’s refreshing to know the value of what you’re offering. For example, her new high-ticket coaching services are offered at a higher price point than she’s ever done before. And while fear and doubt creep, in she had the a-ha moment of:  “I was able to give so much more because I didn’t feel resentful toward the price that I charged.” And guess what, the coaching services were a success! This doesn’t mean you’re not going to have nay-sayers who accuse you of manipulating or “scamming” people, but at the heart of your business, you know what you’re providing. And don’t forget, there’s always the block and delete buttons, which Amanda has become more comfortable using. ;) As long as you’re providing (aka giving!) value to your audience (and some free content, too), you have just as good of a chance as anyone to build a successful business. Thomas Edison said, “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” Stories are our lives in language. Welcome to the Love Your Story podcast. I’m Lori Lee, and I’m excited for our future together of telling stories, evaluating our own stories, and lifting ourselves and others to greater places because of our control over our stories. This podcast is about empowerment and giving you, the listener, ideas to work with in making your stories work for you. Power serves you best when you know how to use it. Last week we talked about those devastating one liners and weeding them out. This week we’re telling stories about how you really get to have the things you want most. What it means to do what it takes to make something happen. When I was 18 I launched my own little hand-made jewelry business. I strung beautiful handmade beads on leather and I sold to ski resort gift shops. This was well before jewelery making was cool, or Michael’s a had a whole aisle of jewelry making supplies. I was working my way through college, and my entrepreneurial yearnings created this business as a side venture to working at Fred Meyer between college classes. I had 5 or 6 orders from various resorts, but it never got any bigger than that. When I was a stay-at-home mom I launched a fun business of designing personalized candy-bar wrappers for birthdays, weddings, any party or event – I designed the custom wrapper, printed the wrappers and wrapped the candy bars. Shipped them in ice-bagged insulated boxes so the chocolate wouldn’t melt. I put all the money into the software, the design training and the production, but fell short of putting in the marketing dollars needed, so my return on investment was a handful of orders from neighbors and friends, a new-found skill of design, an iMac, a high-end paper cutter and cases of candy bars. A few years ago when my newest hiking guidebook came out – Best Hikes Near Salt Lake City, published by Falcon guides, I put together a gorgeous plan for week-long hiking retreats that involved mountain lodgings, massage, yoga, an in-house cook and daily guided hikes in the Northern mountains of Utah. Same thing happened, all the planning, designing, arranging for providers, and when it came time to persevere through the swamps of finding clients I got bored and wandered onto the next thing caring a sense of failure at not pushing through and taking it all the way. I ended up guiding day hiking trips, but it was nothing like I had pictured. I could have put in the time and effort to market it, for sure, but if I have a wonderful idea and a snazzy product shouldn’t clients come to me? I hated to have to sell people on anything, and so these business “failures” made a tidy little stack in my bookshelf of stories. One of the stories I started telling myself, that was not serving me well, was that if I put time and effort into a new venture that it will all be a waste of time and resources because in the end it will fall flat. I mean it’s happened 3 times. There is this fear monster that pops up when I contemplate doing something that might make a difference, to me or the world, and I am flooded with a fear of failure, a fear of wasted time, and a fear of wasting money on something that in the end won’t launch. Now, like all our stories, there are reasons I have this fear. Namely my past experience. While sometimes our fears seem to pop out of nowhere, they often do originate from some disappointment that we don’t want to relive. But the past doesn’t have to define the future. The other day I was looking through a post that Lewis Howe’s, a popular podcaster and NY Times best-selling author wrote about how he got his book on the NY Times best seller list. It was a tremendous list of hard work, networking, selling, finagling, up-selling and going the extra mile to market his own work. As I read his list of “how he did it” I felt a little...
