The kind of fancy stuff, the auto stores, it is created that bottleneck."[00:03:53] "It stands for Scan, Label, Apply, and Manifest. It doesn't encompass everything that happens in that last hundred feet, but it certainly does."[00:12:06] "If you look at an e-commerce direct-to-consumer fulfillment facility, most likely 80% of your labor cost is going to be in that pick and pack, and 20% will be in the last hundred feet."[00:13:18] "We worked with them and created some technology around that. So, that we would be taking a picture of that box with the cell phone in and it really solved that problem."[00:19:51] "It does start with an assessment, and assessing, what areas, where is your true bottlenecks, where is most of your costs going, where are your error."Find out more about Steve Pickfield in the links below.https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephenpickfield/This episode is sponsored by G&P Construction. In this episode of Everything is Logistics, Blythe explains the reasons behind her decision to separate her podcast from her web design company, Digital Dispatch. She discusses the need for better communication with clients, upgrading her financial acumen, and streamlining processes to maintain profitability and sustainability.QUOTES:"I went through and I wrote down every part of the process for onboarding, off-boarding, what happens during lead conversations, what happens when somebody becomes a customer, what happens when they move into an active opportunity. I ripped it all down and built it back up from the ashes of those flames from the previous processes." - Blythe Brumleve"I'm a process junkie, and I would not be able to figure out my prices, I would not be able to develop a stronger financial acumen, if I didn't take all of my processes and just tear them down and start almost from like a zero-based budgeting perspective, but start as zero-base processing perspective." - Blythe Brumleve"I thought if I was giving a fair price to me 10 years ago, me then, that was good enough. And that shouldn't be good enough. But I was creating this perception of myself and of my work and of my business, that I was cheap." - Blythe Brumleve"If you never hear from me, it's a good thing; everything is running smoothly. If you hear from me, things are a little shaky. The problem is that my tech team does a really great job. So the clients never heard from me. And that was a gap in our communications." - Blythe BrumleveLINKS:Digital Dispatch WebsiteWATCH THE FULL EPISODE HEREFeedback? Ideas for a future episode? Creating content in-house gives you a massive advantage in the market. Yet, content creation is still one of the most outsourced items for in-house marketing teams. When you outsource your content creation (and organic distribution) you lose key advantages. The first is that you don't give your in-house subject matter experts the ability to speak your company's unique value prop or opinions. The second is you aren't in the weeds on social media every day hearing what the market is saying about your industry, so you're always one step behind and end up being reactive, instead of leading the industry. In this episode, Chris talks about why it's so important to bring content creation in-house, and what parts you can outsource without losing value. Reducing Cost and Improving Transit Time for eCommerce Shipments from China with Brian Miller Brian Miller and Joe Lynch discuss eCommerce shipments from China, which can be challenging for small to mid-size eCommerce companies. Brian and his company, Easy China Warehouse have a unique approach that can reduce the cost and transit time for shipping from China to the USA. About Brian Miller Brian Miller is the founder and CEO of Easy China Warehouse (ECW) based in Shenzhen, China. Prior to founding ECW, Brian co-founded a blue tooth speaker eCommerce company so he understands the unique challenges faced by eCommerce companies shipping from China. Earlier in his career, Brian held leadership positions with Chinese manufacturing companies. Brian earned a BS in Business Administration from The University of Connecticut. Brian speaks fluent Mandarin and lives in Shenzhen. About Easy China Warehouse Easy China Warehouse, based in Shenzhen, specializes in warehouse and transportation solutions for eCommerce and Amazon FBA sellers. With its proximity to Hong Kong, Easy China Warehouse (ECW) can provide customers with the fastest and most economical shipping lanes in the world. ECW ships to all Amazon FBA warehouses globally and can drop ship from its Chinese warehouse directly to customers anywhere in the world. In addition, they provide value-added services such as product kitting, bundling, simple assembly, and package, and insert manufacturing. ECW provides the most flexible and cost-effective global fulfillment solution for eCommerce sellers manufacturing in China. Key Takeaways – Reducing Cost and Improving Transit Time for eCommerce Shipments from China Typical Problems for eCommerce Shipments from China (particularly LCL) For many eCommerce companies, their product is manufactured in China and then shipped to the USA. Smaller eCommerce companies, especially start-ups, do not always have enough product (sales) to fill a shipping container so they are forced to use Less Than Container Load (LCL) services. Less Than Container Load (LCL) is a shipment that will not fill a container. With an LCL shipment, you pay for your load to be shipped in a container with one or more loads from other customers of the freight transport provider. While LCL is a good option for many, it is more expensive than buying a full container and the consolidation and coordination often increases the transit time. Reducing Cost and Improving Transit Time for eCommerce Shipments from China On the podcast, Brian Miller explained another approach to ocean shipping for eCommerce companies that typically would use LCL. Brian’s company, Easy China Warehouse, and other companies like his use this approach. Rather than ship your product to a freight forwarder in China for LCL consolidation and eventually shipping to the USA, the product is shipped to a China warehouse that labels the product with shipping instructions (UPS, FedEx) and consolidates it with other companies product. While it is similar to the LCL consolidation, the process is faster and saves days or even a week in transit time. Since the product is labeled in China, the breakdown and shipping coordination in the USA is greatly reduced saving more time and money. Since Brian’s company, Easy China Warehouse specializes in eCommerce shipments, they understand the unique challenges faced by eCommerce companies. Retention of engaged staff, fewer absences and close teams are just some of the business benefits.    GEFCO Incentives include free fish & chips, free health checks, free haircuts, free camping festivals for family and friends… Its ‘brew days' – where teams stop, gather, have a cuppa and chat about how they are – have led to team members opening up about problems, which they've then received support for.   We met warehouse operative Kevin, who was one of 50 staff who completed a Coventry to Paris bike ride, something which he told me relaxed everyone – at every level – and brought staff closer together. Electricity has always powered lighting, the office but now we're powering electric forklift trucks, automation and digital technology too… Simon also discusses multi-storey developments in Japan, a new era of collaboration between landlord and tenant, data flows and data-driven decision making. He also shares how intervention by local authorities in the Netherlands is prohibiting gas installation and paving the way for zero carbon buildings.

In this episode, our host Collis Williams engages in a very passionate and high energy discussion with Belizean Egbert Irving, Program Manager at the Sagicor Cave Hill School of Business & Management. Egbert's role puts him in a position where he has access to the fertile minds of young people from across the region and as such, he is considered to be a critical person in the strategy for safeguarding the sustainability of our Caribbean people. As a moulder of minds, Collis charges Egbert with repositioning the mindset of our youth to help them understand not only how important it is to get in line as an entrepreneur, but also to be part of the agitation to facilitate the mastery of their own destiny. There is also a strong appeal to our youth to push their way through the contagion of old staid ideas that currently remain intact and ultimately hamper their progress.Other critical points discussed include the fact that:Jobs as we have traditionally known them, no longer exist. The concept of a salary has to become less current. We must think differently about earning a living and what we need to do to contribute to the economic growth of our countries. We need to enfranchise and incentivise our people to take the mantle up and engage in entrepreneurship as their route to being masters of their own destinies.Social goods can stagnate room for our young entrepreneurs to blossom. There is a need to banish our seemingly innate fear to take a chance on ourselves and our talents as well as remedy the inherent level of mendicancy that fails to protect our small entrepreneurs.Visit our website at https://www.rdleagle.com/podcast/ for show notes and to join the discussion on this episode.
