To get your dose of daily business news, tune into Mint Top of the Morning on Mint Podcasts available on all audio streaming platforms. https://open.spotify.com/show/7x8Nv1RlOKyMV5IftIJwP1?si=bf5ecbaedd8f4ddc This is Nelson John, and I'll bring you the top business and tech stories, let's get started.  Jubilant FoodWorks Bets Big on Tech & Expansion Jubilant FoodWorks is ramping up its Domino's India expansion from 2,000 to 3,000 stores, backed by Elate, an in-house Android-based POS system aimed at improving efficiency across its brands (Domino's, Popeyes, Dunkin', Hong's Kitchen). CEO Sameer Khetarpal promises tech upgrades every six months, integrating AI into store management. The company is also pushing for faster deliveries, with 70% already happening in under 20 minutes and a new guaranteed 20-minute service coming to India's top seven cities. However, dine-in sales remain sluggish as free delivery drives online orders. Meta's Project Waterworth: Building the World's Longest Undersea Cable Meta is advancing Project Waterworth, a 50,000-km undersea cable connecting India, the US, Brazil, South Africa, and more. The aim? Faster internet and AI-driven applications across platforms like Instagram, WhatsApp, and YouTube. Meta is in talks with Airtel, Jio, Tata Communications, and Lightstorm for landing the cable in India, navigating regulatory hurdles. With 95% of global data flowing through subsea cables, this move enhances India's digital backbone while reducing dependence on geopolitically sensitive routes like the Red Sea and South China Sea. Indegene Expands AI-Driven Pharma Solutions in the US & Europe Bangalore-based Indegene is capitalizing on AI in pharma commercialization and regulation, particularly in the US and Europe, where it derives 64% of its revenue. With US pharma firms under pricing pressure, CEO Manish Gupta sees a major opportunity: “Pricing and market access are critical, and our AI-driven solutions can help.” The company has launched Cortex, an AI-powered platform, and is expanding in Europe, with a London center, an Ireland acquisition, and a move into Spain. Since 2010, Indegene has grown from ₹33 crore to ₹2,500 crore and is poised for further scale. Global Investors Shift from US Stocks Amid Tariff Uncertainty Investors are pulling billions from US stocks, redirecting funds to Europe, Asia, and emerging markets due to concerns over US tariff policies. In March alone, European investors withdrew $2.37 billion from US equity ETFs. April 2, Trump's “Liberation Day” tariff plan, threatens new trade tensions, prompting 15 of the world's largest asset managers to reduce US exposure. Goldman Sachs & Barclays have already cut their S&P 500 forecasts for 2025. While some analysts argue US stocks remain attractive, foreign outflows may weaken market performance. Lollapalooza India Booms Despite Industry Challenges The third edition of Lollapalooza India attracted 60,000+ fans with Green Day, Shawn Mendes, and others. While ticket sales hit records, India's live entertainment infrastructure remains weak, lacking dedicated concert venues. “We have to build everything from the ground up,” says Anil Makhija, COO of BookMyShow Live. Diljit Dosanjh's criticism of India's concert ecosystem further highlights these issues. High taxes and ticket resale controversies (e.g., Coldplay's Mumbai show) also pose challenges. Despite this, India's live music market is growing fast, with global artists increasingly making India a tour stop. BookMyShow is pushing for policy changes, better infrastructure, and new festivals like Bandland. “Fans are ready. Artists are ready. Now, the ecosystem needs to catch up,” says Makhija.

There's an obvious tension in the crypto world between decentralization and centralization. Of course, Bitcoin was a reaction against the power of the entrenched banking systems and a move toward individual economic empowerment. The essential element of blockchain technology is a distributed ledger, so it's a reasonable desire for those who care about the technology to want the scale tipped toward decentralization. It's also undeniable that some centralization often proves useful with scaling and building trust. But living within the tension between decentralization and centralization may be the key to empowering individual people by providing them with economic access. Manish Gupta, the EVP of Engineering at Coinbase, makes the case that Coinbase is equipped to democratize the crypto economy. Main TakeawaysTension Between Decentralization and Centralization: Coinbase is living between the binary of a centralized versus a decentralized system. Fundamentally, by maintaining a balance between both paradigms, it has an opportunity to further democratize the crypto economy,Seeing Opportunity Instead of a Problem: When the crypto economy has boomed in the past, the Coinbase site has gone down, at times, due to the volume of users on the site. Trust is essential for Coinbase customers, so being able to solve for capacity issues is essential for sustaining that trust. In part, the solution to handling traffic issues has been to institute a series of tests to be proactive rather than leaning on a spike in the market to test the system. For Coinbase and Manish Gupta, these platform issues became an opportunity to strengthen the platform.Leaning into Decentralizing Technologies: Coinbase has made a strategic decision to lean into decentralized products. Overall, Coinbase plans to focus on decentralizing its workforce, products, and what it builds on the blockchain. One example of offering increased decentralization on the platform is creating wallets where assets can be individually held rather than combined into a larger pool of assets.IT Visionaries is brought to you by the Salesforce Platform - the #1 cloud platform for digital transformation of every experience. For this episode we spoke again with Georges Saab, Vice President of Software Development at the Java Platform Group and Manish Gupta, Vice President of Global Marketing for Java and GraalVM. The very first feature that made a massive impact wasn't a change in the Java language at all. It was the vastly improved library support that happened in the early releases. Between 1.0 and 1.3, these libraries included the Swing window toolkit, the Collections framework, a RPC-like API for remote calls, JDBC for interacting with databases, and more. The standard libraries grew richer, more sophisticated, and allowed Java to become a real enterprise language. In 2004, Java added generics, which allowed types, methods, and interfaces to be specified with the associated data types to be specified when that item was instantiated without sacrificing type safety. “At the time, generics were a challenge and people had strong opinions about them,” said Saab. Today, generics are one of the enduring features of the language. Java may have been designed as a completely object oriented language, but when Java SE 8 was released in 2014, it added Lamda expressions (aka closures), which added some functional programming elements. Not every problem is best served by OOP, and by adding Lambdas, Java became more flexible. Despite its prominence across numerous industries, Java isn't sitting still. Saab mentioned four big projects coming to Java that had him excited, all designated by codenames: Loom, Valhalla, Leyden, and ZGC. You can read all about them on our blog.If you want to learn more, Oracle has put together a wealth of resources to celebrate Java's 25th anniversary.

For this episode we chatted with Georges Saab, Vice President of Software Development at the Java Platform Group and Manish Gupta, Vice President of Global Marketing for Java and GraalVM. In the beginning, the nascent Java language project, codenamed Project Green and later Oak, was designed to create interactive televisions. Think of the kind of overlays and interactivity that you see with most flat screen TVs today. Back in 1995, this was brand new territory. There was no hardware or operating system standard for a computing platform within a TV, so the team had to figure out how to create a programming language that could run on virtually anything. Code it once and run it everywhere through a virtual machine. Interactive TV was ahead of its time in the early 90s, but Java found a strong foothold for its cross-platform ideas in web applets and WebStart programs that downloaded and ran an application entirely from a web address. This evolved over time, and today it provides a lot of the processing muscle for server-side web apps and cloud-based SaaS applications. Here at Stack Overflow, the Java tag has remained one of the most popular over the years, with 1.7 million total questions on the site. When Sun announced Java in 1995, they did so with Marc Andreessen—then cofounder and “rockstar” at Netscape—on stage with them. Andreessen had agreed to integrate Java into the Navigator browser, a major coup for a brand new language. At the time, Navigator was the clear leader in the browser market, taking over 75% of the share. Even before this announcement at the SunWorld conference, the volume of downloads of the language became so great that it overwhelmed the T1 line attached to the java.sun.com web server. Today's episode covers the past and present of Java. Tomorrow, we'll air episode two, which takes us from the present and looks towards the future. If you want to learn more, Oracle has put together a wealth of resources to celebrate Java's 25th anniversary.

Manish Gupta is the co-founder and CEO of Matr Boomie, a fair trade company that empowers artisans in rural India to create and sell handcrafted products to international retailers. With a background in engineering, Manish relied on the design expertise of his wife and business partner, Ruchi, to develop their mission of creating sustainable employment for marginalized communities. And Matr Boomie has done just that. Matr Boomie bridges the gap between the purchasing desires of western consumers and the handmade products of over 20,000 talented artisans in rural India. Their company continues to grow and serve as a leader in the world of fair trade and ethical production. In this episode, Manish provides invaluable insight into the positive impact responsible trading can have on struggling communities and the benefits of working closely with the community Matr Boomie supports. He also shares some simple tips for how consumers can join the movement by making more conscious purchases, and how consumers can influence businesses to engage in the fair trade market themselves. A few takeaways from our conversation: The ability of responsible, fair trade to empower struggling communities who have not found opportunity to use their art to sustain their families and their community Ethically sourced and produced products, like Matr Boomie’s, can be high quality while as well competitively priced How Matr Boomie is able to identify the challenges of their artisan partners and develop the relationships necessary to provide meaningful support What actions consumers can take to make sure the products they buy are truly fair trade products   Full show notes: https://growensemble.com/matr-boomie-manish-gupta/

I have known Manish for many years in the security industry and it does not surprise me that he is once again at the top of a company that is setting the mark in the industry. As DevSecOps continues to mature we are seeing solutions that help at different points of the software pipeline. Some solutions are shifting far left and helping developers at the point of development and committing code. Other solutions are squarely aimed at the old Ops team. Almost a DevSec and a SecOps bifurcation. I am not sure that this is a great thing, I would like to see a more holistic solution, but I do believe the market will correct this. ShiftLeft could be one of those companies who is on top at the end of the day.

AI has made it easier to understand text as a medium in a deeper, more efficient way and at scale. With video, the situation is quite different. Searching for content within videos is more challenging because video is not just voice and sound, it is also a collection of moving and still images on screen. How could AI work to overcome that challenge? In this episode of the AI in Industry podcast, we interview Manish Gupta, CEO and co-founder of VideoKen, about the future of video search as machine learning is increasingly integrated into the process. Dr. Gupta talks about how video is becoming more searchable and discusses his own forecasts about what that will look like in the future. One of the things I love most about ethical and fair trade fashion is telling the stories behind the companies that make these beautiful things. That’s basically why I started this podcast, so you could hear the stories behind the brands doing these amazing things! But what I love even more is when I’m out somewhere and someone says “Oh I love that gorgeous necklace” or “That shirt is incredible, where did you get it?” and I get to tell the story behind the gorgeous piece. But it’s not like they knew that piece was made by artisans or is changing the world somehow. They just knew it was beautiful and wanted to know where I got it, but the fact that it has a story behind it means that much more. My guest on the Business with Purpose podcast this week is Manish Gupta, founder of Matr Boomie, a fair trade brand that produces some of the most beautiful jewelry and hand-crafted goods that works with INCREDIBLY talented artisans in India. I have been a big fan of Matr Boomie for quite some time and was honored to hear Manish’s story and hear about how they got started. This is such a great conversation and you’re going to learn so much! EMPOWERING ARTISANS When ethical brands try to sell products, it is easy to make the products too much about the story of the artisans and not the art itself. Manish and I discuss how he lets the products lead while still empowering the artisans behind the products. By viewing the artisans as partners and not as a charity, Manish avoids “pity sales” and lets the amazingly beautiful products speak for themselves. FAIR-TRADE CERTIFIED In today’s world, the term “fair trade” is thrown around quite often while few companies are actually fair-trade certified. It is so much harder for craft products to be certified due to the complex nature of supply chains. However, some businesses are Fair Trade Certified by the Fair Trade Federation, meaning they follow ethical practices. Manish explains the intense review companies like his own have to go through to become certified and the principles they have to follow. POWER OF CONSUMERS As consumers in the US, we are so far away from where many products are being made and it is easy to say we don’t know the processes and ignore the problem. Manish and I discuss how consumers need to take ownership about what they’re buying in this day and age. Consumers make a huge impact and can make brands more conscious just by asking them how products are made. A change in consumers’ spending habits will force businesses to pay attention and make a change. About Manish Gupta, Founder of Matr Boomie: On a trip back to his native India after years living in the United States, Manish Gupta was struck anew by the extreme material poverty of his homeland. With deep respect for the rich culture and potential of rural Indians, he began asking questions. After hundreds of conversations and even more glasses of tea, Manish realized that he had a role to play — that he could bridge these two seemingly disparate worlds. He started partnering with grassroots organizations to transform unskilled women and men into master artisans. He personally ensured that the materials were safe for people and kind to the land. With the help of his mother and sister, Manish established a team in India to guarantee clear, efficient communications and high-quality production. He gathered a team in Austin, Texas, to design collections that entice Westerners while honoring the culture, craft and capacity of Indian artisans. And along the way, he married a beautiful, inspiring Indian designer, Ruchi, who quickly became his partner in life, love and business. Nearly a decade later, the little company run out of Manish and Ruchi’s Austin apartment has grown into a leading fair trade wholesaler and innovator in ethical, sustainable business.
