Ce 10 avril, Marjorie Hache propose une nouvelle soirée intense, entre figures cultes et pépites alternatives. Garbage ouvre le bal avec son nouveau titre "There's No Fortune In Optimism". We go waaaaaaaaay back (four decades?) with our dear friend Alli. And whatever we got up to back in the day—tooling around town in her Chevette, rocking out in downtown Youngstown, or just chilling in any of our respective basements—music was involved. No surprise that Alli was firmly at the top of our guest list. Here's hoping this is the first of many of her appearances on The Mixtape Diaries!Credits: Intro/ Outro — the Februarys, "Does Your Father Know"/ "... In a Letter."

Episode 170: In Conversation With Will Crewdson (Scant Regard, Adam Ant, et al) Brian and Sarah recently had the honor and pleasure of meeting the great Will Crewdson in person at an Adam Ant concert. During that encounter, the three agreed to set up a time to meet and talk some more. This episode is the result! Will Crewdson is a talented, prolific, and extremely busy guitarist who has lent his formidable skills to a number of well-known acts, including Adam Ant, Flesh For Lulu, The Selecter, Gaye Bykers on Acid, and Sigue Sigue Sputnik, to name just a few. He was also a founding member of the indie band Rachel Stamp, and he currently works with ex-Rachel Stamp band member Shaheena Dax under the name She Made Me Do It (SHEMMDI for short), and as a solo artist under the name Scant Regard. Brian and Sarah had a fun and enlightening conversation with Will about a number of topics, such as his musical background, performing and touring with Adam Ant, his solo project Scant Regard, and a cool story about working with someone that Brian (perhaps surprisingly) was super-excited about! Additionally, Will shares an exclusive tour update—an upcoming solo date on the East Coast! Don't miss this episode—and then head directly over to Bandcamp to check out the Scant Regard and SHEMMDI material! Delighted to be joined by guitarist Neal X on the podcast today. Neal was a member of 80s new wave band, Sigue Sigue Sputnik. I loved their mix of electronic sounds with punk-rock guitars. And their outrageous looks. Always thought they looked and sounded like they were from another planet. Since his days in Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Neal has gone on to work with some amazing musicians, including former Sex Pistol, Glen Matlock, Adam Ant and Marc Almond. Neal discusses the making of "Love Missile F1-11" which recently celebrated its 38th year of release. I first heard this brilliant track in the opening scene Ferris Bullers Day Off, which is one of my favourite films of the 80s. Neal recalls the time when director John Hughes called him up to discuss using the track in his new film, which went on to become an all-time classic He also discusses his earliest musical influences and guitar heroes More recently, Neal formed garage rock band, The Loveless with long time collaborator and friend, Marc Almond. 'Meet The Loveless' is out now on Cadiz Music. Sigue Sigue Sputnik on TOTP Synthetic Dreams is presented and produced by Scott Zverblis Synthetic Dreams on Instagram Synthetic Dreams title music by Chris Ibbott

Entdeckt haben wir u.a. lange Versionen von Iggy Pop, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Public Image Limited, The Cure, New Order, The Jesus & Mary Chain und Siouxsie & The Banshees. Remixe von Killing Joke, Clock DVA, Cabaret Voltaire, Bauhaus und The Mission. Und wir fördern Postpunk-, Indie- und Synthi-Pop-Perlen von B-Movie, Modern English, Kirsty MacColl und Psyche in langen Versionen zutage. Episode 148: A-ha - Scoundrel Days (1986) Part 3.75 PLUS The Giddy Carousel of Pop No, your eyes aren't deceiving you-- this is, in fact, a new installment of the discussion on Scoundrel Days! Of course, your eyes probably also noticed that this is Part 3.75, rather than part 4. Slowly but surely, Brian and Sarah are getting through this album, but once again, they're only discussing one song off the album. The song in question is Track Two on Side Two, "We're Looking for the Whales." Our hosts talk about the origins of the song and actually end up spending a fair amount of time discussing a demo version and comparing it to the album version. They both also express confusion with the lyrics, as well surprise in learning how recently, and by whom, this song was performed live. However, this episode has more than just a discussion of a single album track from a-ha, because finally, the mysterious project Brian and Sarah have been mentioning over the past couple of months is revealed! Our hosts are joined in this episode by Simon Galloway and Gavin Hogg, hosts of the brilliant podcast The Giddy Carousel of Pop. Simon and Gavin were gracious enough to invite Sarah and Brian on their show to discuss an issue of the much-beloved Smash Hits magazine, and in the ensuing discussion we learn more about the episode they recorded, as well as the podcast itself and its hosts. The lively conversation also includes recaps of recent concerts by Soft Cell and Roxy Music, as well as mentions of such diverse acts as David Bowie, The Mission (much to Sarah's chagrin), Sigue Sigue Sputnik (yes, really!), and a mysterious synthpop duo from 1986 who in this episode are compared to...The Velvet Underground?! Brian and Sarah also chat with Gavin about the hot-off-the-press book he co-authored with Hamish Ironside, We Peaked at Paper: An Oral History of British Zines. This episode is so jam-packed with a variety of information, that by the end of it, your head will probably be spinning-- like a carousel! On this very special interview episode of the Banned Biographies Podcast, Tom talks to Rich Wilson, an award winning comedian who has performed sell out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, Adelaide Fringe, Melbourne Comedy Festival and the New Zealand Comedy Festival. Rich is also the host of the Insane In The Men Brain Podcast where he talks to funny and interesting people about their experiences with mental health. In the last year the podcast has been nominated for an award with Podbible and in 2019 won an award with JOE for best podcast. Rich is the first comedian I've had on Banned Biographies and the reason for that is that I hear him bring up music on his podcast fairly often and his guests don't often indulge him - plus the fact he has a show on Islington Radio called The Tuned Up Time Machine - so, I reached out to ask of he'd like to have a long form conversation about music and he jumped at the chance, which was flattering. In this conversation we talk about his favourite bands, best gigs he's ever been to and played, the best and worst things about music (including how shit Sex On Fire by Kings Of Leon is!), the similarities between musicians and comedians, how society is too clean and safe right now, and so much more as well as a fair bit about his career in comedy. This was such an easy, free-wheeling conversation to have and I'm so grateful to Rich for giving up a couple of hours of his day to shoot the breeze with me about a subject that's clearly dear to both our hearts. If this is your first time listening to Banned Biographies, I do audio documentaries on bands, a lot of which we touch upon in this episode, and I've interviewed musicians in bands such as Sham 69, Ash, The Prodigy, English Dogs, Adam Ant's solo bands, and session musicians for The Selecter, Bow Wow Wow, The Dandy Warhols, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, and many more, so be sure to subscribe on your podcast platform of choice and check out the back catalogue. There's something there for everyone. You can find out all about him and where he's gigging at richwilsoncomedian.com, listen to Insane In The Men Brain podcast wherever you listen to your podcasts and listen to The Tuned Up Time Machine on Spotify or on MixCloud.Merch: https://my-store-cfdac5.creator-spring.comContactTwitter: @BannedBiogsFacebook: @BannedBiographiesInstagram: @bannedbiographiesE-mail: bannedbiographies@gmail.com

Bassist Tony James tells us about the initial headline-grabbing antics of the synthrock band — from falling foul of Stanley Kubrick due to uncleared samples on “Love Missile F1-11” to their reported multimillion signing by EMI. We also hear about Sigue Sigue Sputnik's chaotic months-long sessions with SAW for the single “Success”. If that wasn't enough drama for one episode, we also look at Rick Astley's final record with the production trio, “Take Me To You Heart”, and hear about the fire that destroyed initial recordings for the Hold Me In Your Arms album (from Karen Hewitt and Mike Duffy) and the singer's decision to part ways with PWL (from David Howells). For the first time so far in the podcast, Matt Aitken joins us to talk about working with Rick in 1988 and this episode's third single, “S.S. Paparazzi” — Stock Aitken Waterman's excursion into acid house.
Tony James is one of rock's great shapeshifters. He starts out with Billy Idol in Generation X, one of the great punk bands, but when Billy went solo, Tony took some time to conceptualize his next creative move. That gestation period eventually brought about Sigue Sigue Sputnik, one of the most outrageous groups of the 80s. Though they were short-lived, the band left a giant lipstick stain on the collar of pop music. Tony then downgraded to sideman when he joined up with "The" Sisters of Mercy for a spell. Then, because he can, he pairs up with his old London SS buddy Mick Jones and forms Carbon Silicon and gives most of the music away for free. It's been a wild ride and today Tony lives comfortably off his success and does whatever he wants. It's a crazy, hilarious story. www.patreon.com/thehustlepod

Celebrating 35 years of the most exciting and influential Giorgio Moroder produced album of the 80s, Flaunt It was an album like no other. From the endless movie samples and sound effects to the driving synthbass and futuristic nonsensical lyrics, the album was the first in pop music history to be silence free with actual commercials between the tracks. It's crazy chopped up style influenced acid house and dance music culture for decades to come. So let's enjoy the madness that was the greatest pop album of 1986 in one blazing mechamix of neon glowing, mowhawk wearing, high tech dub disco brilliance. Peter Hook is an architect of modern music. As bass player and founding member of Joy Division and New Order, his melodic high playing style changed the game. Hooky's bands influenced countless other artists from all across the musical map. From the branches of post punk and electronic music, these two groups changed the game for all of us. Plenty of bands lifted from that blueprint too: Radiohead, Interpol, Arcade Fire, the list goes on. But what are the songs that are unknown pleasures for Peter Hook? The sparks of inspiration that led him in new direction, the music he swooned to as a fan? From The Sex Pistols to Sigue Sigue Sputnik, The Temptations to The Velvets, Hooky wound back through an extraordinary life. And shared a hell of a lot of stories. Wind back to the root of a huge family tree, with this wonderful conversation about discovering your place.
