Malibongwe Drive has been known as a smash-and-grab hotspot for some time now, with criminals taking advantage of traffic being at a standstill during peak travel times and also while waiting for traffic signals to change. Criminals have now also been placing obstacles in the road to force motorists to come to a stop by puncturing the tyres, with the ultimate intention of robbing them. Lester Kiewit speaks to A.J., a drone pilot who has been capturing footage of criminal activity in the area.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Loyalism stood triumphant. The Ulster Workers Strike succeeded. It brought down the Sunningdale executive, the council of Ireland binned, power-sharing shelved . It seemed like total victory. But was it? In the final part of a three-part series, Ciarán Dunbar looks at the long-term legacy of Sunningdale Agreement and the Ulster Workers Strike – and asks, who really won? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Northern Ireland had never seen the like of the Ulster Workers Strike – a rebellion against the state – by loyalists. The strikers wanted an end to the Sunningdale power-sharing executive and everything that went with it. It was mostly peaceful but was punctuated by the bloodiest day of the Troubles – the Dublin Monaghan bombings. In Part 2 of a three-part series – Ciarán Dunbar looks at how the Ulster Workers Strike began, and why. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In 1973 the ‘Sunningdale Agreement' established power-sharing in Northern Ireland, preceding the Good Friday Agreement or Belfast Agreement by 25 years. It even had an All-Ireland dimension. But it met with a backlash and was brought down by the Ulster Workers Strike. In the first part of a three-part series, Ciarán Dunbar explores the Sunningdale Agreement and its workings – and asks if it ever had a chance? Hosted on Acast. In this second of three installments with Karen Stupples we hear her recount her early struggles adjusting to life on the road on the LPGA Tour. Karen broke through for her first professional win at the 2004 Wllch's/Fry's Championship by a commanding five shots, shooting an LPGA record at the time 22 under par. We learn that it was this victory that paved the way for her LET membership and future Solheim Cup participation. Validation of that initial triumph came at the 2004 Women's British Open at Sunningdale where she again prevailed by five strokes after beginning her final round eagle/albatross! With a major in hand, Karen was off to play more in Europe and her quest to qualify for the Solheim Cup was just beginning. Built (truly "built," not just "laid out") by Willie Park, Jr., in 1900 and 1901, the Old Course at Sunningdale Golf Club was, to that point, the most expensive construction project in golf history. It was also more functional, systematically designed, and artful than golfers of the 1890s would have imagined an inland course could be. It marked a major advance in golf architecture and the beginning of the period we now call "the Golden Age." This third installment of our Great Courses series starts with an extended introduction from Garrett on the state of golf course design in the late 1800s and the turning point that Sunningdale represented. To further explore the course's design and influence, Garrett brings on Adam Lawrence (16:26), the editor of Golf Course Architecture magazine and the author of an upcoming biography of Harry Colt. Garrett and Adam discuss Sunngindale's origins, Colt's important role in refining its design, and much more.
Ashley and I have known and worked with Gareth and Amanda Small at Helens Bay Dental Practice for so many years that Eddie remembers us as part of their dinner conversation when he and his sister Emily came home from school. Emily is now a dental therapist working in Dubai and Eddie is a dentist who commutes between London and Helens Bay (just outside Belfast) on a weekly basis. In this conversation, we trace Eddie's life so far (one of our youngest ever guests) from thinking about dentistry at the age of 6, becoming more interested in his parent's work from age 11 and deciding on a dental qualification as soon as his GCSE's were completed. Then to the University of Manchester (great choice Eddie) and happy years during which he was expertly mentored by Professor Siobhan Barry and also met numerous people from whom and with whom he learned. Eddie became Co-President of the Undergraduate Society and helped to chair their annual conference post-Covid. From this time he also recalls a training course attended with his father over in the Czech Republic with Dr. Josef Kunkela - a course at which he met the presenter's son and others of his own age group - all attending with parents - a fraternity that inspired him to do more. Key words for Eddie are “passion”, “learning”, “innovation”. After graduation he worked as a Foundation Dentist in Sunningdale, Berkshire and has many happy memories of that time to share. As stated, he now splits his time between England and Northern Ireland and frequently introduces digital workflow ideas to his parents, who remain totally open-minded to every suggestion promoted. This is a success story - about dentistry, family and dedication. We think you should share the podcast with others who either have children or parents who may be inspired. Eddie also kindly offers to answer direct questions confidentially - you can reach him at eddy9570@gmail.com

In this episode we are joined by golf journalist and consultant Adam Lawrence. Despite attending the same school as Dr Alistair MacKenzie, Adam is currently writing a biograpahy on Harry Shapland Colt, the father of modern golf course architecture. We explore Colt's early golfing days at Cambridge and his early influences, R&A membership and the formation of the Oxford & Cambridge Golf Society. We then take a look at some of Colts' designs at Rye, Sunningdale, St. Andrews, Swinley Forest, St Georges Hill, Rosapenna, Royal Dublin, Royal County Down, County Sligo, Royal Portrush and Royal Liverpool. We also consider how Colt's style evolved through time and what sort of legacy has he left to the game. Tom & Sam catch up with Zac to hear about his latest trip to the south of England playing some of the famous Surrey heathlands as well as the links of the South Coast. It was really interesting to hear about The Tree Farm and the work of Tom Doak & Kye Goalby as the project approaches the build phase. It was a heavyweight itinerary (including Sunningdale, The Addington, Woking, Worplesdon, St George's Hill, Walton Heath, as well as Rye, Royal St George's & Deal on the south coast) - made even tougher without a passport!
In this episode of Course Diaries, Tom & Sam visit Sunningdale Heath Golf Club in Surrey. It will take you only five minutes of this podcast to realise how taken we were with this place. Fantastic feel to a fantastic golf club.
Money Talks – a series of interviews with Liam Halligan, Economics and Business Editor of GB News. In this episode, Liam talks to Mark Fane, Co-Founder of Crocus, a horticultural company based in Sunningdale, Berkshire, that grows flowers and plants - which it sells, for the most part, on-line. Crocus, like so many businesses, initially viewed both Brexit and then this Covid pandemic, as potentially disastrous. What's happened, though, is that over the last few years, Crocus has thrived, quadrupling its capacity to fulfil orders in the face of soaring demand, while taking on more and more staff. This Wednesday episode begins with some congratulations for Andy North, Jerry Kelly, and Bucks fans everywhere. It also begins with Andy asking some hard questions about the new sponsor for NE Ohio's favorite golfer. Then it's on to the schedule for the week, beginning with the Evian Championship. They debate the merits of this being a major and wonder if the Players is jealous about this arbitrary designation working so easily.
