Infidelity can rip a marriage apart — and it's hard to imagine a betrayal more painful than finding out your spouse is involved with someone else. Josh and Katie Walters share the story of Katie's affair with the husband of their good friend couple, and how Katie vacillated for quite a while, torn between doing the right thing (ending the affair) and still feeling love for the other man. Meanwhile, Josh was convinced by God that divorce was wrong and he needed to love Katie as Christ loves the Church, which meant pushing through the pain and hoping against hope to rescue his marriage. Josh and Katie have developed an acronym — S.T.A.Y. — for struggling couples. "S" stands for "Start with me," or taking ownership of your own sin and mistakes instead of blaming your spouse. They also address “T” — “Take quitting off of the table,” and Katie shares a story of making a vow to the Lord of “You can have my feet,” which meant she still wasn't sure about her love/marriage with Josh, but she wouldn't be going anywhere.   Receive a copy of New Marriage, Same Couple for your donation of any amount.   Have You Lost Hope in Your Marriage? 4 Mindsets You Need for Your Marriage To Thrive... Just in Time for Valentine's Day! w/ Josh & Katie Walters - Ep. 89

We all want to have a marriage that thrives, but one-third of Christian marriages end in divorce, a figure that is “statistically identical to that of non-born again adults” according to recent research from Barna.   What critical foundation are so many Christians missing in their marriage that leads to the demise of their primary relationship?   Josh and Katie Walters, authors of the brand new book New Marriage, Same Couple: Don't Let Your Worst Days Be Your Last Days, identify four essential principles that will help every marriage to thrive. After a devastating season involving an affair that rocked their marriage to the core, Josh and Katie discovered four Biblical mindsets that transformed their relationship. Those mindsets form the word STAY:   S—Start with you. T—Take quitting off the table. A—Allow others to be a part of your story. Y—Yield to God's vision for your marriage.   The true testament of these mindsets is that they were applied to a dead marriage, and now that marriage is thriving. Catherine, Josh & Katie have a refreshing, raw, and grace-filled conversation about how we allow the enemy to sew seeds of discord and destruction into our relationships, but God has a plan to redeem what the enemy has stolen.   Josh's Bio: Josh has been on staff at Seacoast Church for the last 14 years where he currently serves as the Executive Pastor for Seacoast Experience. He is a member of the Teaching Team and helps oversee what happens in person and online each weekend.   Katie's Bio: Katie serves on the Experience Team at Seacoast Church and teaches as well. She is the CEO of Francis and Benedict, a fashion line that creates waxprint clothing hand made by single moms and widows in Togo, Africa.   EPISODE RESOURCES:   Josh & Katie's Website Connect with them on Instagram & Facebook New Marriage, Same Couple: Don't Let Your Days Be Your Last Days New Marriage, Same Couple Workbook Josh's Doppelganger   SCRIPTURE'S REFERENCED:   1 John 1:9 James 5:16 Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

In these perilous times every day is a step of faith. We can't always know what is around the corner in our homes, at work, or in our community. With so much going on, we can begin to let our faith in God weaken. If we are to be the light and salt in the earth, we need to continue to T.R.U.S.T. T – Take steps of faith.“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)It's much easier to stand still in our comfort than to step out in faith in the unknown. Yet, taking these steps of faith strengthens our ability to trust in God. R – Recognize God is with us.“For he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.'” (Hebrews 13:5)Even if we don't always feel the presence of God, He is with us. The Lord doesn't desert us when we've messed up or have moved in the wrong direction. He's there always gently guiding us. U – Understand that there will be ups and downs.“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)Everything isn't going to go our way all the time—this is life and we must learn to embrace the uncertainties. However, God knows the beginning and ending of our journeys. S – Stay close to God's word“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)The word of God is our comfort in the darkness and our encouragement to keep us from despair. Our hope is renewed as we daily take in and meditate on the scriptures. T – Turn away from doubt.“But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.” (James 1:6)Many times we may find ourselves struggling in the faith because we keep allowing doubt to creep into our thoughts. We can resist doubt through prayer and God's word to empower our faith in Him. PRAYER Dear Lord, I pray that my faith continue to grow in You so that I will trust in You with all of my heart. When we've done everything we know to do in the Lord, it's time to just stand firm in our faith. We've prayed consistently, served God's people, studied the Scriptures, and shared our faith, among other things. Yet the waves of trials and tribulations attempt to pull us from God's purpose. We will be tempted to step back into our comfort zone. Our flesh will cry out for relief from the pressure. How should we S-T-A-N-D on the solid Rock of Jesus Christ regardless of the storms? S – Stay true to what we know is right in God's word even in the time of testing. After we've done all we know to do without any immediate answers to our prayers, our faith may waver. We keep doing what we know is right in the Lord because of His faithfulness. T – Take time out for quiet prayer, meditation, and reflection. It's important that we set aside quiet, reflective moments. Our spirits, minds, and bodies need times of refreshing and remembering God's plan and purpose for our lives. A – Align our hearts and minds with the truths of Scripture. We can't stand on great quotes or traditions. Our confidence is emboldened by the word of God. Our constant reliance on the Scriptures will continue to strengthen us when we feel weakened by trials. N – Never let ourselves get wrapped up in the regrets of “what-ifs.” We don't step back into the former things of our lives. Because we can't change the past, we have to let it go and ask the Lord for wisdom to move on. D – Determine to press forward in this lifetime until the Lord takes us home. “You may not be able to control the thoughts the ego thinks, but you can certainly control the thoughts that the ego speaks.” — Alan Carroll   A lot of the time, we get lost in our train of thought because it's a continuous stream of consciousness. Therefore, your ego gets in the way because your thoughts are your ego. Alan Carroll, a Transpersonal Psychologist, focuses on the 5th Greek element which is space to be utilized in becoming more mindful and present as we speak our minds.  In his experiments, he discovered that as you create spaces consciously, you become more spacious. Space is beyond the physical and literal but if you can create space between the words that you speak, by just pausing, it also connects to the thoughts that you think. With this space, there will be a command or a switch to control when you want to stop and when you want to go. To do that, practicing mindfulness and being present is important. This creates a space of stillness or a space of love.   Wellness Nuggets: ●       That ability to stop gives you choice about what's the next action you're going to take ●       STOP stands for S: Stop, T: Take three breaths, O: Observe and P: Perceive ●       You're not going to get to a higher level of consciousness until you can love where you're at right now and that means you have to have loving thoughts about yourself   We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU!   About the Guest: Alan Carroll, an Education Psychologist, specializing in Transpersonal Psychology, created Alan Carroll & Associates 30 years ago and before that he was a Senior Sales Training  Consultant for 10 years at Digital Equipment Corporation. Alan authored The Broadband Connection – The Art of Delivering a Winning IT Presentation.  He is passionate about giving people the experience of mindfulness and presence through public speaking. Alan's daily yoga and meditation practices, which he learned at Isha Foundation with Sadhguru, are another layer in the foundation he has created to be grounded and non-judgmental in the present moment.  He has dedicated his life in search of tools that can be used by everyone to escape the psychological suffering caused by our Ego and reconnect to the vast transcendent spiritual dimension of consciousness that lies just on the other side of the thoughts we think.  Website: https://acamindfulyou.com/ (acamindfulyou.com) Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/AlanCarrolltrains ( https://www.facebook.com/AlanCarrolltrains) Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/mindfulnesseminar/ ( https://www.instagram.com/mindfulnesseminar/) LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/company/aca-mindful-you/ ( https://www.linkedin.com/company/aca-mindful-you/) YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpGGeQuWjGOTERBsWi10b4A/featured ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpGGeQuWjGOTERBsWi10b4A/featured)

You're married, you did it! Congratulations! This is one of the very best decisions that you have ever made. Depending on what season of marriage you are in when you read this or listen to this podcast you are either elated and ready to get it on, you are just sick and tired of your spouse and can't wait to go to work tomorrow, or you have settled into a good rhythm in your marriage for a moment. Yes my brother you will go through season in your marriage just like you will go through seasons in life. The great thing is that seasons are necessary, for an example it cannot always be summer because eventually there would be drought and everything would dry up and die. Now we do not want that to happen! Frustration happens! Repeat after me, Frustrations happens, but patience must be carefully cultivated. So now that we have a full understanding that frustration happens morning, noon and night it is our focus to learn how to cultivate patience for our everyday life. Understand this, who you are in private is much more important that who you are in public. Ultimately your private person will invade your public personification of who you want us to believe you are. When we cultivate patience we are retuning our intuition and we begin to operate in compassion, and act with empathy. We have be detuned by our culture and the digital age in which we live in. Everything you want is at your finger tips. 100 years ago when you wanted to know the temperature you would either open the front door and step outside and look up in the sky or put you had to the window. Now while you are taking a show you can ask Google, Siri or Alexa what the temperature is and get a response within a millisecond. Now do not get me wrong I love technology and I love the age that we have been blessed to live in however it does not teach us to wait, it does not teach us to be patience. It has however taught us that whatever we want we should have it right now. In your marriage this has the ability create fractures, fissures and discontinuity. So when frustration happens in your marriage, and let me tell you this, it will happen. Here are some tips to begin to cultivate your garden of patience. I specifically used the metaphor of a garden because when a seed is planted you can go to the garden and get what you need for the day, and return when you need it again and it will be there ready to be harvested. Remember this, patience must be cultivated through practice. 1. Use the S.T.O.P. method: S: Stop what you were doing or speak out loud to yourself, "I need to pause and reflect". T: Take a breath and remember who you are in Jesus Christ O: Observe what is going on in your body, in your emotions, in your thoughts. How are these things lining up with a Godly Man? How are they lining up with with the spiritual practices of love that you are striving for? P: Proceed. After taking an opportunity to "check-in" It is time to move forward the way the Holy Spirit is speaking to you. 2. Teach yourself patience with small things. Chose situations in your daily living to slow down and recognize that you should be exercising patience. In traffic, when your children do not take out the trash, when you find yourself cleaning up after people, when standing in a long line in a retail establishment. Practicing to be patience in each of these "small" things will build and build and give you insight for the larger things. Scriptures to help you cultivate patience: James 5:7 Psalms 37:7 Philippians 4:6 Luke 21:19 Romans 5:3 Romans 12:12 James 1:3 1 Peter 5:6 Isaiah 40:31 Colossians 1:11 Hebrews 10:36 Hebrews 6:12,15 --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/lovelaughlegacy/message

Welcome to The Fully Lived Life podcast! A podcast for those who are longing to pursue the full life and want to break free from anything that holds them back. Listen in as two friends - a psychologist, Dr. Merry, and a life coach, Gillian - talk about life, love, and purpose - with wisdom, humor, and transparency -  through the lens of science, psychology, and faith. What? Dr. Merry walks Gillian, aka “Stella the lab rat”, through an exercise in emotional regulation. Gillian shares how she hit the Covid wall and wallowed in her feelings. How can we walk in real time through situations that trigger a full on emotional dysregulation? Tune in to hear a therapy session! So What? Lets lean in to differentiate between stress (internal - our response) and stressor (external event) - we can't control the current situation but we can learn to manage our stress responses. Our emotional response is what can exponentially increase our stress and cause undue suffering. Now What? If you're struggling with controlling your emotions, consider how to STOPP (Vivyan, 2015). STOPP is a strategy that will help you in the heat of the moment when you are dealing with intense emotions. It incorporates aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness meditation to help you more effectively address and manage your emotional response to a challenging, difficult, or rage-inducing incident. STOPP stands for: S– Stop! Just pause for a moment. T – Take a Breath - Notice your breathing as you breathe in and out. O – Observe - what's going on, your thoughts, feelings, your focus, your reactions P – Pull Back – Put in Some Perspective: What's the bigger picture? What is another way of looking at this situation? What would a trusted friend say to me right now? Is this a fact or an opinion? How important will it be in 6 months' time? P – Practice What Works – Proceed o What is the best thing to do right now? For me? For others? For the situation? o What can I do that fits with my values? o Do what will be effective and appropriate (Vivyan, 2015). Angie is committed to an earth-conscious lifestyle, from what she eats & drinks to all of the things that she consumes and is inspired to share this way of life with others. Angie has earned degrees in Environmental Education (B.S.) and Intervention Services (M.Ed).   Definition of Mindfulness  Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally, in the service of self-understanding and wisdom.” JKZ   It is holding our attention to whatever is rising. Being here.  HumanBEING not humanDOING. This can be hard at first, boring, restless, thinking we aren’t doing it right.    We sense the world through, hearing, tasting, touching, seeing.  That is our only way to know anything at all. Our senses inform our thoughts.  And this is our perception, from where we form opinions and then make decisions and hold positions.  Its a completely a personal experience but one that we can often collectively understand and benefit from sharing our experience with others.      Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).  The timelines of stress research and mindfulness research start to merge in 1979.  Jon Kabat-Zinn recruited chronically ill patients not responding well to traditional treatments to participate in his newly formed eight-week stress-reduction program, which we now call Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). This program includes mindful meditation, mindful eating, walking, and mindful movement (aka gentle yoga).   Substantial research has mounted demonstrating how mindfulness-based interventions improve mental and physical health—comparably so to other psychological interventions  Our body is a partner to each moment. Here in the west, we spend a lot of time disconnecting from our body.  Body shaming, and in fact spending a whole lot of time up here, in the mind, thinking.   And so again, mindfulness - paying attention for the sake of paying attention. We can start to recognize our habitual patterns. Knowing our patterns can really change things.   You can do this practice long, short, in a car, while washing dishes, having a cup of tea, eating a meal, walking, in the shower. Mindfulness can be invited into each and every moment. It’s a practice, not a performance.  We just keep coming back to each moment.  Giving each moment incredible value, importance and attention.   Simple right, not so easy. A very important aspect of mindfulness is bringing an attitude of kindness to our own self. Right, what’s that?  Yes, being kind to ourselves is a thing.   S.T.O.P  The STOP acronym is one of the most well-known and cherished brief mindfulness practices to use during the day. It’s super simple:  S – Stop  T – Take a breath  O – Observe what’s going on  P – Proceed  This can be done any time during the day when you remember. You become aware of what’s going on around you or inside of you, you ground yourself with some conscious breaths, and then you proceed with more clarity and from a place of choice.  Here are three wonderful ways to practice STOP in more depth: The ABCs of STOP—or practicing STOP for Awareness, Beauty, and Compassion:  STOP — A: STOP for awareness  Using the STOP practice to become fully aware of the present moment: What is going on in the body? The mind? The emotional field? Or asking yourself: What is out of my awareness right now? It can be as simple as noticing your brain is foggy after being on a conference call for two hours (and that you need a stretch break) or that you have been thinking about the upcoming teacher meeting all morning. Simply stop and take a breath.  STOP — B: STOP for beauty  Pause for a moment and notice something beautiful in your surroundings. It can literally be to “stop and smell the roses.” Use all of your senses to find something and then take it in for a breath or two. If that feels too big of a stretch you can ask yourself: “Ok, I know this is a stressful moment right now, but if there was something beautiful about it, what would it be?” Maybe then we notice the flowers on the table, which blend into the background when we are busy. Or the beautiful braids of the woman in front of us in the (long!) check out line at the grocery store.  Compassion is a natural, caring response to suffering, big and small, in ourselves and in others.  STOP — C: STOP for compassion  In a moment of stress or pain, practice STOP to open your heart to kindness and compassion. Compassion is a natural, caring response to suffering, big and small, in ourselves and in others. Sometimes the tug of compassion calls us to stop, at other times we need to stop and really take something in, so we can open the doors of the heart and invite compassion in. Maybe we are a little impatient with our child complaining at length about something that happened at recess. Maybe the adult brain doesn’t see it as hurtful but stopping and truly listening might allow us to connect with the truth of her hurt and allow our heart to melt a little.    Breath Focus Practice  Take a moment and find something to let your eyes rest on.  Soften your gaze but looking. You might like to rest your hands….  And when it is comfortable begin to let your eye lids lower, any amount or all of the way closed. Feel yourself sitting, standing, know what you can about being right here.  Only this moment matters right now. What can be known?  Begin to look at the inside of the eyes.  Look with awareness. Look to know, to see what’s there.   Move your attention to your breath. You might even feel this ability to look inward at the breath. From any perspective that you can you know the breath. From the nose, the nostrils, the throat, the chest, or ribs moving or belly.  You might sense warmth and then cool as your breath enters and leaves.   And then gently open your eyes again. And continue to look with this awareness.       Deeper Dive Resources    Angie’s Website  http://www.angiecorogin.com/  Angie’s Newsletter  https://angiecorogin.com/mbsr-course    Angie’s MBSR Course – Next One Starting November 23, 2020  https://angie-corogin-wellness.thinkific.com/courses/mbsr-winter  Angie on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/movementality/  https://www.facebook.com/angiecorogin/    Mindfulness-Based Interventions for Anxiety and Depression  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5679245/    A meta-analysis of Mindfulness Based Interventions (MBIs) show that MBIs are effective in reducing acute symptoms of depression but not anxiety  https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25865879/    The acceptability and potential benefits of mindfulness-based interventions in improving psychological well-being for adults with advanced cancer: A systematic review  https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29389483/    The Effect of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) on Depression, Cognition, and Immunity in Mild Cognitive Impairment: A Pilot Feasibility Study  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7429186/    What Works in Mindfulness Interventions for Medically Unexplained Symptoms? What makes life meaningful and magical is stopping, focusing, and re-evaluating our purpose in life. We pause in meditation to let go of thoughts and sharpen our attention to the breath. ... In a pause, we discontinue whatever we are doing—thinking, talking, walking, writing, planning, worrying, eating—and become present, attentive, and, often, physically still. Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.Feeling agitated, anxious and crabby about this thing or that I remembered to practice STOP’ing, and I thought it might be helpful to share with you. STOP is a quick and easy technique to take a mindful pause during your daily activities, especially if you are feeling stressed or impatient. It doesn’t necessarily change anything but it will make you more aware of your direct experience and perhaps help you choose to do or feel differently, something to make life a little easier. So, STOP.S: Stop, right now.T: Take in several deep breaths inviting your lungs and belly to fill up and relax while your shoulders slip down from your ears.O: Observe what is going on as you breathe, what tensions you release, what thoughts you let go, what emotions you transform from impatience or irritation to calm and peace.P: Pick back up with your task or project; or take a longer pause. Whether you stay the course or change it up, be mindful of the present moment with its sense of quiet, confident ease you now enjoy.  This is the place to thrive together. Come for the stories - stay for the magic.  Speaking of magic, would you share a nice rating/review on Apple Podcasts and when you come back bring your friends and rellies. The murder of George Floyd and the ongoing protests at centuries of racial injustice have galvinized many to speak truth more forcefully in their daily lives. One of those people is my friend J Nycole Ralph. As J Nycole was processing her own emotions, she realized that she was being more impacted by the death of another black American AND she wasn't standing up in as powerful a way she wanted to. To that end, she created a process called The CREATE Method. It stands for C – Claim that you feel something R – Recognize the feeling E – Embrace the feeling A – Address the feeling T – Take action E – Educate and Engage In today's podcast, J Nycole walks me through these six steps. As someone who has helped people process their emotions for over a decade, I learned a number of new ideas in this conversation. It is well worth your time. Listen to this. Take notes. Kill!" Sure, it can literally mean kill. But in Marine-speak, kill can mean "yes, I understand," "hell yeah," or "let's do this." Marines will even say "kill" as a half-joking version of hello. Using this one outside of the Corps can get plenty of strange looks, so don't try this one on your local college campus. BAMCIS Acronym for the Marine Corps' six troop-leading steps. It stands for begin the planning, arrange reconnaissance, make reconnaissance, complete the planning, issue the order, and supervise. But most Marines just say "BAMCIS" when they successfully complete a task. It's like when Chef Emeril says "Bam!" Just add a "cis." Skating The term Marines use for slacking off. Soldiers call this behavior "shamming," but Marines can "skate" out of boring tasks by avoiding them somehow, usually by getting a dental appointment. And of course, S-K-A-T-E is even an acronym: S: Stay out of trouble / K: Keep a low profile / A: Avoid higher-ups / T: Take your time / E: Enjoy yourself. The Metaphysical Tvrz Theater podcast on Anchor FM a podcasting host application Direct reflection of leadership This is often used sarcastically to rib a non-commissioned officer when one of his or her Marines gets in trouble. "So, two guys from your squad got caught drinking in Tijuana then got arrested at the border. Direct reflection of leadership, right corporal?" Motarded What some Marines will call an extremely gung-ho coworker. It's not a compliment. Ninja Punch Non-judicial punishment — also known as the Article 15 — is what Marines can face if they break the rules, but a commander doesn't feel it's bad enough to warrant a court martial. While the military justice system is the same across branches, the Marines are the only ones who refer to it as an NJP. If you walk out of your commanding officer's door going down a rank or losing some pay, you probably got "ninja punched." Pvt. or Lance Cpl. Schmuckatelli The John Doe of the Marine Corps. He's the screw-up and the guy always getting in trouble. The Marine who is lost all the time. The anonymous service-member who stands as the example of what not to do. This term will usually be brought up by a senior leader, like: "Hey gents, you are all doing good things. Be safe out there this weekend, but don't let me get a phone call about Pvt. Schmuckatelli getting all drunk out at the club and getting into trouble, good to go?" 1111q1qqqqqq Semper I Another play on "Semper Fidelis," which often gets shortened to "Semper Fi." While the motto means "Always Faithful" and brings up teamwork and esprit de corps, "Semper I" is used when a Marine goes off and does their own thing without thinking of others. Sometimes used as "Semper I, f--- the other guy." Terminal Lance Lance Corporal, or E-3, is a Marine rank that comes with more responsibility than a private or private first class, but is not a non-commissioned officer. In order for Marines to pick up the next rank of corporal, they need to have a high-enough "cutting score" to be promoted. If they get out after their four-year enlistment at Lance Corporal, they are a "Terminal Lance," which can be bad or a point of pride, depending on who you talk to. "Terminal Lance" is also a hugely-popular online comic strip started by Maximilian Uriarte. Photo Credit: Terminal Lance Let's break it down, Barney-style. Some Marines need some help in understanding how to complete a task. When this happens, a leader may want to break it down into baby steps and explain it very slowly. You know, just like Barney. BCG's These are what Marines call the glasses you get issued at boot camp, or "boot camp glasses." Most know them by their nickname, which is "birth control glasses," because well, you probably don't want to hit the club wearing these things. Katherine "Kat" Blanco and I met on Instagram and instantly hit it off! I loved her heart, passion, and love for people. We opened up about major stuff on DM's and I knew I had to her on the podcast because she has an amazing perspective on life. This episodes sticky note quote is: "Forgiveness is not only for the other person, but it's for you. It's one the greatest expression of self care and self love." Quote by Kat. A parallel quote by Miguel Ruiz "Forgiveness is an act of self love and respect." Forgiveness is an action and it serves us well when we live it out. It's also how others, especially our children learn and grow as we role model what forgiveness looks like. S.H.I.F.T. takeaway: S: Surrender your unmet expectations, the perfect picture of an apology or remorse, or how your life should be right now. Surrender your pride to God and His will. Knowing that He is in control, covers your blind side, protects your heart, and has plans to prosper you and not hurt you. Find your strength in surrender as you trust God. H: Honor God with your obedience to forgive whether you like it or not. Honor yourself with the opportunity to let it go whether they deserve it or not. Honoring God and yourself is the most beautiful mature and honest moment you can experience in life. Honoring God and yourself with how much work and determination you put into bouncing back from those unforgivable moments in your life so that you can continue living a life of freedom. I: "I am reason enough" - In any case relating to forgiveness, "I" (you) am reason enough to forgive the other person. Don't worry about whoever hurt you, what they're doing with their life, how sorry they were or were not, if they learned from it or if they are still doing the same thing. It's not about them. The lesson is for you to learn to move past the hurt, to continue to live life, to feel remorse, to shift change to a better way of living - It's about you and You are enough reason to forgive. F: Find what works for you in forgiving. Also, find a balance based on the situation and season. It may take a week, months, or years, but choose to not let unforgiveness go unsettled. Release yourself from unforgiveness and in turn, the other person as well. T: Take the "L" - Take the loss, the lesson and the low road. You're not a loser. When you take the lesson, you are stronger and wiser. It is the road less traveled, but you can't lose if you learn, grow, and move from it! It's a sign of grace and maturity. Is there an existential threat to the human race in the form of an epidemic wreaking havoc on a mass scale this very moment? Indeed there is but you might be surprised to hear that it isn’t Ebola or the coronavirus working its way around the Pacific Rim and spreading, as potentially devastating as those can be or might one day become. In this episode we take a look at the main threat to humanity, which has to do with and is directly tied to decisions people make concerning their health. And since much about our decision-making in these areas can be affected by cravings and negative thoughts one of the key issues becomes how best to deal with these aspects of our mental lives. When faced with these challenges our natural inclination, and what has been typical of clinical approaches, can be characterized as avoidance and distraction. But is there a better way? In his book, ACT made simple: An Easy-to-Read Primer on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Russ Harris outlines an approach to behavioral therapy that challenges the ground-rules of most Western psychology. This model assumes that quality of life is primarily dependent upon mindful, values-guided action, and this is possible regardless of how many symptoms you have—provided that you respond to your symptoms with the proper mindfulness. ACT leverages the notion that the best manner in which to deal with the cravings and negative thought patterns that can take us off the path of living well is to: A = Accept your thoughts and feelings, and be present C = Commit to move in a valued direction T = Take action to move in that direction And it helps to load up on that AMO to hit the target of a life lived well. Awareness ...of the cravings and negative thought patterns and what they are or represent. …of the reality associated with certain behaviors and how best to deal with cravings and negative thoughts. Mindfulness Think things through to recognize and not be ruled by the emotional component of cravings and the urge to dwell on negativity. Openness Humbly accept input, guidance, the need for course correction and that you might need some help! This year, I'm rethinking quite a few things in my life. One of which is how I relate to my phone because let's face it, that little rectangular buddy hangs out with me more than my own family does, in any given day… and I'm not sure that's a good thing! My guest, Arlene Pellicane simplifies how to have a better relationship with your phone, personally and professionally. Arlene reminds us, “the phone provides an illusion of connection, but in reality, its overuse leads to isolation.” If you're itching to reshape a bad habit of checking your phone constantly, instead of plugging in to real-life, in-person connections, this one is specifically for you! In this episode, you will learn: How screens and technology have changed the way we relate with one another How big of a problem this is, REALLY How we can get back to ‘Calm, Cool, Connected' through Arlene's digital habits for a more balanced life: H = Hold Down the Off Button (turn off technology at regular intervals) A = Always Put People First (pivot away from your phone towards others) B = Brush Daily (keep your reputation stellar by not posting rashly) I = I Will Go Online With Purpose (stop wasting time and increase productivity instead) T = Take a Hike (harness the power of nature to rejuvenate) What role your spirituality could play in all of this Arlene was recommended by Dr Gary Chapman, the author of the 5 Love Languages and I'm so glad he did. When we chatted on the podcast, Gary mentioned Arlene was the absolute expert on this subject. I loved our conversation together and I hope you're able to integrate a few of her simple, practical tips so you can take back control of your screen time to simplify your life. Dr Chapman has collaborated on a few books with Arlene and I have a feeling I'll have her back again soon on the podcast! It was soooo good! #DoTheThing! Recently, Lee Cockerell and I hosted a one-day mastermind event in Orlando.  Twelve people from around the country joined us to discuss opportunities and challenges they have in their business.  Even though I help Lee host the event, I know I walk away learning more than anyone else. Here are six lessons I learned during the mastermind.  Choose the better story: When faced with two options, choose the one that will create a better story for you or your family. T Take care of yourself: You can't take care of others if you haven't taken care of yourself first. Take care of yourself, then your family, then your career. Quit Feeling Guilty: Do your best and then forgive yourself.  Let it go: You don't always have to have the last word or always be understood. Let it go. And the more often you let it go, the easier it will be to let it go next time.  People aren't always happy for you: When you become great, not everyone will be happy for you. Be great anyway.  Talk behind people's backs: Start saying good things about people when they are not around and see what happens.

Sometimes we don't have time for a full body scan to offer yourself compassion. That is why I like the STOP process, it brings yourself into the moment by interrupting a negative, overthinking stress cycle. S = Stop what you are doing, sit (or stand) quietly for a moment. Thoughts are just thoughts, believe that, “I am safe. This too shall pass.” T = Take five deep breaths. Inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth. 5 count inhale, 5 count exhales. Feel the rhythm of your heart as you settle in. O = Observe and acknowledge but don't cling to what your body is feeling and experiencing. Are you caught in the monkey-mind loop? What are your thoughts doing? Breathe into them. Sit with them. Is your mind busy like a buzzy bee or calm like a cucumber? Are you turning your thoughts into a catastrophe? How would a friend advise you to look at this situation? P = Purposeful Pause. Ask yourself, “What do I really need to pay attention to, right now?” Listen. Breathe. Be. Reconnect.
