This groundbreaking method utilizes Katie's platform-agnostic storytelling tactics tailored to each brand's goals. From implementing social media growth for AT&T and DirecTV to providing done-for-you services for solopreneurs, Katie understands the evolution of social media. Welcome to the end of what was the beginning of my podcast experience as a business mentor. If you've caught an episode or two of our most recent episodes, I've talked about how I am retiring this podcast and launching a brand new podcast from scratch in January 2023.So, I wanted to have an official kind of retrospective episode. An episode reflecting and talking about all of the changes and nuances that come with creating a new podcast, and sharing some of my thought process around it.I have been putting this podcast out there for four and a half years. I started in the middle of 2018, so that's four and a half years. And I think for many of you listening, the idea of stopping an established and successful podcast seems like a terrifying leap of faith. But it is so exciting to me. There is so much I have learned and experienced as a business owner because of this podcast, and I am SO excited to take you on this journey of reflection at the end of the path of Online Business Building Mamas. This week, I will share and chat with you about the things I believe should be the staples in growing a stable and consistent business. While also, being able to build balance into your current commitments and people in your life. To round out the year, and the end of this podcast, I wanted to bring back a crowd favorite as special guest, Breena, to the show to talk about lessons learned in 2022.I was telling Brenna, before we started recording, that we know our lessons, we learned them. Theoretically, some people might think you don't need to plan for a podcast where you're sharing and talking about lessons and experiences you've lived in your business, and how you grew from them. However, when we were reflecting, we realized that the lessons that we have learned are the same lessons over and over and over again. Just in different ways. But even though we've learned the lesson, it's always within a different context, a different circumstance. This week, we'll chat about how the lessons that we've learned this year haven't been mind- blowing, or an unlocked industry secret. Yet, they have been valuable and logical lessons that we are happy to share with you, the listeners! You'll learn:How when it comes to your business, there is no such thing as saying something too many timesWhy focusing on the thing that your clients/customers want, how is it actually the thing that they need, and how can deliver that to them, is how you will grow a businessHow it's ok to rebrand and redirect your business as you grow into a more specific niche or clientele that you would like to serveWhy having or building a team for your business doesn't necessarily mean that you are burnt out in your businessHaven't left a review yet? I thought it might be a fun end of year surprise to do a podcast that was semi-unstructured, unscripted, but still, organized in a very specific way. I wanted to have an Ask Samantha episode where I would hop on here and take questions that I've received from all of you who listen. However, I have not prepared any answers for them.Although I may not have answers prepared, I've looked through all of the questions. Kind of thought a little bit about what I wanted to say, but I don't have any notes or anything. So you know me, who knows what's gonna happen. In true Samantha style, I will go off on some rants, and tangents, but will always circle back to the bigger picture. On this week's episode, you will get to hear and learn a little bit more about me on a more personal level. You'll also get to experience both some insight, clarity, and maybe even a little tough love that you might be needing in both your business, your life as a mother, or all of the above. But regardless, I hope you find this both educational, entertaining, and relatable! You'll learn:How to revisit the idea of mindset work if you don't feel like it's working for you and your business goalsWhy consistent scheduling made all the difference in the growth of my businessHow my most impactful mindset shift early on in my career truly changed the whole forecast of my businessWhy it is beneficial to prepare yourself to handle difficult clients before they cross your pathHaven't left a review yet? You get to hear their stories, the ups and downs of their journey thus far. But most importantly, their wins and celebrations from being a part of this program.Mama to CEO has had SO many amazing women go through the program, so my team and I really took the time to find four women that not only had relatable stories and journeys to share, but incredible wins after completing the Mama to CEO program. On this week's episode, you'll learn first hand from four incredible clients, and business owners, how a program and community like Mama to CEO can be instrumental for growth. Today we are talking about a very interesting topic to every business owner. If you are somebody who is growing a business, the number one thing on your mind when you're looking at a “big goal”, or really, any goal, is, how am I going to do that? This used to be a really big topic on my mind as well too, when I was in the first few months, and years of my business. Until I learned how to figure out the how. Now, I don't really have the same frenzied energy about wanting to know how. I know how to figure out how. I feel like it allows me to be so much calmer in my business, even when things aren't going the way that I want them to go.Especially near the beginning of your business, or before you have achieved some of your personal big goals, you may have this kind of sense that everyone else who has made a lot of money is keeping secrets from you.I get it. I feel like I used to feel this as well, and if this episode can convince you otherwise, then I feel like my work here is done.On this week's episode, we are going to dive into how to figure out the how, what that might look like for your business, and how that will lead you to success. You'll learn:Why failure is part of the process of how to run and maintain a successful businessHow working with a coach not only helps you to “fail better”, but to fail faster and to learn more from it to support your business in the futureHaven't left a review yet? This is something that I don't think I have ever really done a podcast episode about. Today, we are talking about business plans. Honestly, years ago, I used to feel people might feel a little negative about the idea of business plans.I think that the idea of a business plan has been there all along in the things that I teach, but I want to lean in even more to this topic this week. So first of all, business plans are something many businesses do. This is a very normal thing, especially if you're launching a brand new business.Anybody who's going to be giving you money, and investing in your services wants to see:“Is this a smart investment?”“What is the risk here versus the potential reward?”“How is the potential payoff?”“Can I expect growth from this?”“What kind of return on investment ROI can I expect on this?”A business plan helps them to get an idea of that, and how they will know how they feel about this potential investment. In addition, it's specifically, a plan on how you are going to make money. Focusing on how much you want to make, invest, the number of clients you need, what the offer is you plan on marketing, and how much you will charge for it. On this week's episode, we'll not only establish the idea of a business plan and how to formulate one, but the understanding that if you're starting a business, you are doing so with the intention of making money, and there is nothing wrong with wanting to do that! You'll learn:Why creating a foundation for your goals will help you to be better prepared for variables that you may run across in your launches. How not having a plan for your business, and hoping that it will just be successful, is both risky and ineffective. Why setting a business plan really helps you understand what is possible in your business.Featured on today's episode:Haven't left a review yet? I've been thinking a lot about how to support you on this topic. I know that it's brought up anxiety, uncertainty or just overall heaviness. So this week's topic is all about recession and economy talk, and what it means, if it means anything for your business.I personally feel that outside in the world there is just so much doom and gloom, stress, and anxiety. So you may not really have anybody in your life who is giving you different perspectives, different thoughts, and ways to think about it as an entrepreneur.Guess what? As a business owner, you are going to feel anxiety often. Regardless if the economy is going amazingly, even if things are booming, you can still have low periods in your business. You can still have anxiety even if things are going amazing in your business. It feels terrible, but it is a normal part of having a business. On this week's episode, we'll talk about how you need to have some awareness about how feelings that you have are not actual real situations that you have to deal with. More importantly, I will give you tangible ideas on how to effectively run a business through a recession. This is a real situation in the world, but the more facts you can have, and the less hype and hysteria you can feed it, the better. You'll learn:How to analyze and put into perspective the actual impact a recession would specifically have on your business. Why the key to thriving in a recession is responsiveness to the data of your business, and the needs of your potential customers. How differentiation during a recession is the key to success in a business.Haven't left a review yet? Creating a business from the ground up is truly such a crazy thing, isn't it? When we're growing a business, we have to have belief in things before we actually create them. There are SO many things that we are already programmed to do, without having to believe we can do them. Taking a shower, getting out of bed, etc. These are all things that we automatically do, almost like it is second nature. So HOW do we get there in our businesses? How do we make tasks, or things we do/accomplish in our businesses, become second nature? You need to get clear on what our goals are. You need to see it in your mind first, and then actually execute it in the real world. What it really comes down to, is that you need to have enough belief that you can. If you don't have any belief at all, then you won't take action towards it. Belief makes a big impact on if we're going to take action, and what the action's going to look like. But the actions that we take, matter just as much as putting in that belief that you can accomplish these things. Believe it or not, your brain is trying to push doubt on you, just as badly as you are trying to push belief into you. The more doubtful you are in your business, the less action you'll take, because your brain will think to itself, “what's the point?”This week, we're going to dive into specifically how your business will benefit from borrowing belief, and how it will lead you on the path to success in your business. You'll learn:How working with a coach will support the growth of belief in yourself, and your businessWhy connecting with a community with like-minded business owners will support your need for belief when you need itHow utilizing a community will allow you get clarity on your goals in your business, and put you on a path for successFeatured on today's episode:Haven't left a review yet? Today we are talking about something that I think is the most important thing when it comes to your business…Actually learning how to enjoy your business.Seems pretty crazy, right? How could you NOT enjoy something that YOU chose to create? Most people start their business because they weren't feeling fulfilled with the way they were living their lives. They weren't feeling like they were making the contribution they wanted to make.Another reason people decided to start their business was because they weren't feeling satisfied with their careers. There just was something more that they wanted. And for a lot of people, they had careers that weren't enjoyable. They had jobs that weren't enjoyable.Often I think that this can lead directly into building a business that's not enjoyable.Building up your business and turning it into something that is so similar to the thing you tried to escape, is just no fun. On this week's episode, we'll chat about what steps you should take so you can actually enjoy your business. But more importantly, learn to not feel so shitty all of the time when you're reflecting on how your business is doing. You'll learn:How to learn how to build in enjoyment in the process of working as a CEOWhy it's important to celebrate your business outside of just hitting financial goalsHow to get really specific in the areas of your business that are not fun for youWhy it's ok to give yourself permission to change things in your business Haven't left a review yet? Obviously, when any of us are creating an offer in our business, we want it to be profitable. We want to make money with it, we want it to work, and this episode is all about how to create an offer that is going to bring in a profit. So here is the thing that I want all of you to think about, as you think about your offers. There's two roads in front of you, and you've probably never thought about your offers in this way until now.Approach number one - what SO many people do.They choose an offer, and then they create the desire and demand for it. So what this looks like is you have some kind of experience, interest, or set of skills that you feel really confident in. It also could be some topic that you're really interested in, and you package that into an offer, and put it out into the world, and then you make people want it.The second option is noticing what people already want, and making that an offer. Seriously, so many people come up with these very elaborate programs and elaborate niches for these very niche situations, and make that into an offer, and put it out into the world and no one buys it. I'll tell you what, there's a lot in business that is not easy, but picking an offer that people want can be very easy if you just notice what people already want. This week, we are going to really get into creating profitable offers that not only people want, but that you feel confident in selling and backing. More importantly. We'll go over how these offers will be a positive impact on your business, instead of a detrimental one. You'll learn:How to keep your profit in mind, as it relates to revenue and cost of delivery of your offer. Why it's important to keep in mind how audience size relates to the appropriateness of your offer. How industry norms, personal value, and your experience contribute to the pricing of your offer. Why creating an irresistible, profitable offer for your ideal audience is super important.Haven't left a review yet? Ads have come a long way since the traditional face plastered on the side of a bus, or the billboard towering over the highway. But are ads REALLY that important to the success of your business? The short answer is yes, but there are SO many avenues that need to be considered when you're starting to think about running ads for your business. For one, most people assume that the ONLY place to run ads is on Facebook, or Instagram, when these two platforms are only the tip of the iceberg for potential platform ad reach. Now, WHERE you'll share your ads, and HOW you'll share them are all dependent on you, your business, and the audience you're trying to target. For example, Snapchat probably isn't the best platform to run ads if your target audience is 75 year olds. To be honest, you probably have people showing up on your preferred platform now that are potential future clients. However, you always want to be bringing in new people for the long term health and sustainability of your business. In this week's episode, we are talking about all of the things to evaluate and acknowledge when you're ready to consider running ads for your business. Regardless if you decide to run ads on your own, or work with an ads team,no matter what way you look at it, you're paying. You pay with time to grow it on your own, or you pay with a higher uptick in money to grow your audience if you use a team; it's just how it works.Audience growth is essential for making more money in your business, and I am here to help make it just a little bit easier to figure out. You'll learn:Where to spend time investing in ads for your businessHow to pay for ads in a budget-friendly wayWhere the best ad opportunity is for your businessHow to figure out how to run ads for yourselfHaven't left a review yet? This is a question that SO many Mamas have reached out to me about throughout the years. I think that there are so many places, people, and positions that business owners can hire support in, that it almost becomes overwhelming of where to actually start looking.Speaking from experience, the first hire you will probably make in your business is a virtual assistant. However, there are so many different areas of support in the virtual world space, that I think it's important to quickly touch upon the specific roles you can hire for your business. An OBM, (Online Business Manager), or a COO, (Chief Operating Officer), will have a more strategic expertise. They're going to create systems for you, get you organized, and really help with all of the foundations and new implementations in your business. Meanwhile, a virtual assistant will take a system or process you already have in place, and help check boxes off of your to-do list. They are going to take administrative tasks away from you, and help you free up time so you can really focus on the parts of your business that will move it forward. In this episode, we are going to dive into my personal opinion about when you should hire a virtual assistant for your business, as well as the things you need to have in place as a CEO before you bring someone on to your team. You'll learn:How to decide when bringing on a virtual assistant is a beneficial and financial decision for your business. Why learning about your “Zone of Genius” and your “CEO Time Activities” might lead you to the realization that you need outside supportHow to delegate tasks both correctly and effectively so both you and your virtual assistant know their roles and responsibilities in your business Haven't left a review yet? This episode is going to be a bit contradicting to some things I have posted in the past. If you've been here for a while, you might remember me talking about how your business might not need an email list. While I don't disagree with that, I want to clarify whom that statement is meant for. If you are brand new to starting a business, you don't need to stress out about growing an email list. Your main focus in the beginning of your business is worrying about landing your first few sales, and bringing in some income. However, if you are an established business owner, this does not apply to you. If you already have those few sales under your belt, then it is really time to start taking growing an email list more seriously. Believe it or not, the majority of my sales are coming from emails. So, let me be clear on this:Even if you don't feel like you don't read a lot of emails that are sent to you, there are some people that LOVE to read emails. You are going to have some people that actually are interested in things you have to offer, BECAUSE you are showing up in their inbox. So, don't be in this place where you think emails are dead, gone, and thinking that no one looks at email. People are looking at email, don't discount it!This week's episode is all about the things every business owner needs to know about email, and more importantly, wants to know about how to leverage and grow their email list. You'll learn:Why growing an email list is so important to longevity in your businessHow an Opt-in will be the thing that builds trust in your current and future clientsWhy relationship maintenance is the reason customers continue to come back for moreHow your business will talk to you and tell you what works, if you just listen Featured on today's episode:Haven't left a review yet? Recently, I have been chatting with many of my friends that have reached either a million dollars, once or multiple times in their businesses. We've really been reflecting on:-What are the things we think everyone knows when it comes to making money, but maybe they don't know about? So many people believe, “If I work hard, and hire the right coach, I will arrive at a million dollars. Then, the hard work is done, and I will know how to do a business, and everything after that is easy.”That is just not true, my friends. You have to be willing to do whatever you need to do to make success happen, it's just not an option to fail. Your mindset needs to be in a “getting shit done” mode, and erase the idea of perfectionism from your brain.Lastly, you need 7 essential habits that are not only simple to follow, but if implemented consistently, will help lead you to success. I am SO excited for this week's episode you guys, and I apologize in advance for getting a little passionate this week! But this is a topic that really burns a fire inside of me. This episode has been a LONG time coming. Honestly, I know that SO many, if not all of you, are capable of implementing these tools and creating a successful business! In this week's episode, I am going to break down for you the 7 essential habits that I believe will lead you to success in your business. These habits are not just something I pulled out of thin air, but something all of my friends with the same kind of success in their businesses have done, and continue to still do to be successful. You'll learn:Why your mindset, as well as your physical and emotional state cannot only lead you to success, but steer you away from itHow utilizing your money in the correct investments, and tracking your spending and income will make you more aware of how successful your business isWhy having a vision, and not being afraid to experiment will be the bread and butter to unlocking the true potential of your businessFeatured on today's episode:Haven't left a review yet? The other day, I overheard someone say, “Moms use kids as an excuse to not have a business. To not take action, and to not move their businesses forward.” And, as you can probably imagine, this just didn't sit well with me.Moms can, in fact, build a business, in all different phases and seasons of their life. Not only that, but motherhood and entrepreneurship can and should look different to each individualized entrepreneur..We tend to look at people who don't have babies and don't have kids, see their progression, and think this is the progression we should have in our business.Which is why I wanted to take this opportunity to bring in a small group of guest speakers to share their stories on this subject. In this week's episode, I am speaking with 4 incredible mothers, and entrepreneurs. All of these women are in different seasons of motherhood, but have found ways to make their business work for them and the needs of their families specifically. Click on a speaker's name to learn more about them:Crystal Agyei Kayla LyonShonda HowardDr. Natalie MorseBeing with people that have been or going through the same thing as you, especially in my Mama to CEO Community, really makes you feel supported in these multifaceted shifts in your business. We think this is the normal “hum-drum”, that these are things that we normally do, and that being a mother and wanting to build a business isn't a big deal. But it REALLY is such a big deal. If there is one takeaway I want you to leave with after today's session, it's this:There isn't a rush, you don't have something to prove to anyone. Focus on what is the one thing(s) you want, and let's make that happen. You'll learn:How to identify the lowest barometer of success for you when you are feeling overwhelmed. Why giving yourself grace as a mother, a business owner, and a combination of the two, is truly the secret to feeling positive about the growth in your businessHow being in tune with yourself, in every aspect, is not selfish, but necessary to build a business in motherhoodWhy there are benefits to looking for support outside of just you and your spouse when it comes to your businessFeatured on today's episode:Have you been thinking about building a business online, but have no idea where to start to get your business off the ground? If you're someone that is thinking about starting a business, and you haven't actually “started” yet, chances are there is something that is paralyzing you from actually starting.A lot of times, people are stuck in the fear of actually starting, because they're afraid they'll take the first wrong steps, or they're afraid they'll make mistakes and have to apologize for them later. Other times, like in my case, they're wasting their time on things that don't really matter when they're starting up their business. Take websites for example. So many people think they NEED a website when they start a business. However, websites need foot traffic. There isn't a street in front of your website that people are driving by on a road. It's in an alley with trees blocking it. We don't want to build our businesses on rare circumstances happening to us. We want to set our business up for success in the best way we can. In business, there are a lot of things that aren't simple. There are things that are complicated, intricate, and things that depend on a lot of factors. So many people use the fear of “starting a business” as the reason to NOT actually ever start. But starting a business doesn't have to be scary or intimidating, it can actually be really simple. The goal of today's episode is for you to start taking steps, making moves, and begin taking action. This week, we are diving into the nitty gritty of what you ACTUALLY need to start an online business. I am going to uncover, and share 5 simple steps to help you get your business up and running, and stop making excuses as to why you can't actually “start”. I'm hoping that these 5 simple steps will give a picture of what it looks like to start a business, and get you into an action, instead of just thinking about it. You'll learn:How to be confident in the business that you're talking about, (and for more information on this, make sure you check out Episode #237!)Why the things you think are “important” to your business, are actually the things that don't matter the most. Why you need to focus on more technical and tactical things in your business, to ensure the longevity and success of your businessFeatured on today's episode:Have you been thinking about building a business online, but have no idea where to start to get your business off the ground? I am going to share something that might be an unpopular opinion to some.I know there are so many moms that feel so fulfilled at home, being with their children full-time, and immersing themselves in motherhood. And while that is so great for those moms, that just wasn't my story. Staying at home, and pouring myself solely into motherhood just didn't fulfill me. It made me a little (ok, alot). stir-crazy, and I really wanted to put my brain and energy into something that was going to also bring in career fulfillment, and money to help support my family. Our financial situation wasn't the greatest, and even with all of my degrees and experience, I still couldn't find a position that would cover the cost of daycare, let alone bring in an extra income.I had seen many life and business coaches on social media before, and honestly only viewed these people as public figures. I never imagined that I could compare myself to someone like Marie Forleo because I had no idea HOW she got to where she was, and where to even begin something like that.I knew I wanted to help other mothers to do the same thing. It came from that feeling that I had of just, “what is the through line” for me, and how can I help other moms to see their own. So many mothers are thinking, “I have all of these experiences, all of these skills, all of this knowledge. Now I am sitting here at home, and I have no idea where to go career wise, and I need to figure it out.” I have created this whole movement out of these moments of pain of like, “how do I do this”This week, I walk you through some options when it comes to starting, or restarting a business. I know some of you are still in that place of not really feeling satisfied with your choice in business, or more importantly, haven't taken those necessary steps to move your business forward. You'll learn:How an online service business and product-based business differ, and the pros and cons that come with both. Why you might be selling yourself short in your options of online business opportunities because of how you diminish your experiences. How you can categorize your options for starting a business into different pockets of niched-down services. Are you the kind of business owner that plays the, “look at them” game with yourself? You know, the game where instead of putting your time and effort into things that might actually move your business forward, you scroll on social media for hours, stalking and comparing yourself to every single person in your niche. Then, you sit there and say:“Look at them, I could never have a business like them.”When really, what you should be saying is, “Look at them. There's no reason I can't be as successful as them. I just need to start taking action to get there.”This week, I am bringing it back to when I had my first $1k month. To be honest, it was around the time that I had just made $40 in ONE year. Yes, you read that right. And I remember saying to myself, “if I could bring in $200-$500 a month, that would be SO life changing.” Once I finally had that month, it was, in fact, so life changing, and I know for many that are reading this, you might share the same story as mine, that it WOULD be life changing to bring in that much extra income monthly. It was that month, that first BIG win, that really made me feel like I could have a $1k month. When it finally happened, THAT was the turning point in my business for me, and I want to help you do the same. Let's have some wild dreams, and let's figure out how to create them together.I also want to take a moment to acknowledge those of you that are reading this, or might tune in to this episode, that might not be making money yet in your business, or might not be having $1k months yet, or better yet, making low 4 figure months. Reaching those first few wins for me in my business were MORE meaningful for me than goals I hit now, because those were the wins that created the belief. Those wins will let you know and allow you to feel that this business is REAL, which makes them such precious wins. You'll learn:Why investing in coaching early on in your business is one of the best investments you could possibly make. How creating connections with people, both in-person and online, will drastically improve your success rate in your business. How the word “no” isn't a failure in your business, but a way to obtain measurable results for future success. I want you to think about the last time you were scrolling through social media, and came across a business coach talking about something NOT working in their business. I would say probably once, if that, am I right? And WHY is that? This Is a real and normal experience that every kind of business owner has faced at least once in their lifetime. You don't hear a lot of people speaking about this, and there is almost this unspoken vibe that noone should be speaking about failure, and only talking about, and highlighting, the positive in their story. When you're in business, and you're doing all of the things that you should be doing, and it's just not coming together, something isn't clicking, here's what happens. You instantly question everything you believe:“Maybe I am not funny enough.”“I am too introverted for this.”“My content isn't relatable.”And after you've questioned and dissected every single part of your business, what do you do next? You go back to social media, and scroll over accounts you idolize, and your brain validates all of the questions you've just created. Here's the truth though:You don't have to be different from who you are to be successful, but your brain is going to offer it as an answer. The things that your brain sees, the things that are stopping you from moving forward in your business, are not really the things that aren't making you successful. On this week's episode of the Online Business Building Mamas podcast, I talk about some hard hitting truths and facts about failure when it comes to owning a business. We will work together to not only identify solutions on how to move forward from failure, but learn from these events, and come out stronger because of them in our business. You'll learn:How to look at data in your business, and to pinpoint the things not working. Why implementing an effective plan is an important piece to your success. How being true to yourself, reflecting on your business, and asking hard-hitting questions might bring you the clarity you're looking for.Haven't left a review yet?
